What a great day at Whispering woods. We hadn't rode horses in a while, so we only did the 45 min ride. The weather was beautiful for a ride through the woods led by Dallas. My horses name was Sheriff and he was very gentle. They also have pigs, goats, and miniature horses. We were able to purchase a bag of carrots for $4 to give to our horses as well as the other horses/animals. Thank you to Dallas and Emma for making our day great. They even stopped halfway to take pictures. The horses and animals were well taken care of. The staff was most knowledgeable and seemed to love their jobs. read more

I'm shocked by all the 5 star ratings, my family actually asked for our 90 min. ride to end early. Some of my family had stated that they had only been riding 2 or 3 times, so what I would call a beginner. The guide took us through the muddiest, tightest route. We were having to duck under branches and getting knocked by large ones that couldn't be "pushed out of the way" as we were told to do. Our poor horses back legs were either buckling or getting stuck in the mud. The horses were actually refusing to follow the trail the guide went through to try and find steady ground. I know it's Kentucky and it rains, but to me this was completely unsafe and I did not enjoy the experience. read more

We were excited about a riding excursion and we're glad the rain held off for us. Whispering Woods was recommended in a visitor magazine so we gave it a try. Let me start by saying that we had a good ride and our guides were friendly and helpful. They had helmets and saddlebags for us to use. Careful consideration was given to trying to match a horse with a person's experience and size. My horse, Jackson, was said to have a tendency to be lazy and grumpy, but we got along well. So, why isn't my rating higher? Well, the property needed some love and attention. The pastures were bare with uncovered hay rolls for the horses to eat. The trails were so incredibly wet and muddy the whole way. The horses were slipping and sliding multiple times. Honestly I felt bad for asking the horses to work in those conditions. The lake and adjacent cabin were not pleasant views. Things just felt a little run down. There is a lot of potential here, but some effort needs to be made to make the overall experience one riders want to rave about. read more

Just moved to Lexington, and decided to take my 3.5 year old horse riding. We did the 15 minute cabin ride and it was a fun experience. In fact, my son had such a fun time, that we did that twice in a row! An employee held the reins to my sons horse and I was able to ride right behind. The employee also took some great photos of us. After the horse ride we fed our horses some apples (gotta bring them from home). And then we fed the goats, pig, donkeys, and miniature pony. They appear to have more fun things to do, but given Covid, we didn't adventure out too much. Highly recommend! read more

I'm glad this place was open even with COVID. They take precautions. Like any other establishments, mask is mandatory inside the office. They have sanitizer on the table where you sign in the waiver and they have us sanitize our hands right before getting on the horse. Our guide was pleasant, really nice and patient with us. She walk us through how to maneuver a horse. We had a great experience here. Definitely recommend if you plan to visit Lexington-Georgetown area. read more

Okay, if you need a place to chill out with some time in the woods, this place will provide that respite, on horseback. Doesn't get better than riding a reliable horse, guided by a knowledgeable lead rider ... my friend and I enjoyed Cheyenne's calm welcoming demeanor along with her friendly chatter mixed with helpful advice on our individual horses while she led us through some beautiful woods full of ponds, tall shady trees ... we even got to see a doe calmly drinking at the pond as we passed by. I'm really surprised to see all the positive reviews given the terrible experience I had here. My sister and I came for an early morning 90 minute ride. Check in was fairly straightforward and we each signed a standard waiver which asks your riding experience. I put beginner, but it doesn't seem like anyone reviewed this info or picked the horses based on experience. As we started the trail I noticed my horse seemed edgy as he somehow got his hoof stuck in a plastic pumpkin (why they placed this on the trail I don't understand). Throughout the entire trail the horse kept running into and between trees which was horrific. The trail itself was incredibly muddy and slippery which agitated him more. There were multiple times where I screamed to get the attention of the trail guides who weren't able to control the horse either. The guides seem incredibly young and appear to be students at the stables. They could not handle an out of control horse and were overall incredibly unhelpful. My biggest regret apart from going on this trail ride is that I tipped in advance. I would definitely avoid this business if you are new to riding or expect an enjoyable experience. I ended up putting ointment on the numerous cuts and bruises I had afterward. read more

Whenever we have friends/family visiting we like to bring them here. We usually do an hour trail ride and love it, though I'm itching to try the 2 hour ride. It sits on 200+ wooded acres and I've loved every trail they have taken us on. The guides have always been very cool about making sure you get pics with your group riding. The guides are all volunteers so make sure to tip them! I have never made reservations ahead of time but its probably better if you do. If you don't you may have to wait a sec before the next guide is available (though its never been too long). I was not raised around horses so I'm always a little nervous but the horses here are lovely and have the sweetest disposition. read more

They both were being very cautious and safe due to rain the day before and parts of the trail were slippery . Our horses fit us perfectly . They helped us into the saddle and made sure the stirrups fit us just right. They have more is frictions than I have ever had for a ride . We can't wait to go back ! read more

It had been years since I had last ridden a horse. I think this trail is more for experienced riders...with all of the up and down hills, through wooded areas and streams. The horse that I was assigned was named "Storm" and he kept running me into trees...finally one of the tour guides switched me horses and Storm did the same thing to her. So, if you go make sure you don't get Storm. Also don't forget cash, the one hour ride was $25 pp and they don't take credit cards and don't forget to tip your guide. read more

Came here last week for my birthday and had a darn good time. I've been on other trail rides in different states where guides have flipped out and yelled a lot and made everyone, including the horses, tense, like there's an accident waiting to happen. I was nervous going in but Whispering Woods was not like that. Our two guides were very good at keeping things safe, while at the same time making all the riders feel comfortable/confident, like riding horses was a normal and casual thing to do. This was a perfect feeling to have. It felt very easy and allowed us to focus on enjoying the ride and scenery. Whispering Woods used to be a cattle ranch and has a lot of land to explore. There were streams, lakes, lots of deer and birds to see and nice hilly terrain. The horses they used were well behaved and the guides gave some good riding tips (we walked away with some new riding knowledge!). *Another plus was that our horses were already saddled up and ready to go. This was awesome because I've been to other places that have YOU do the saddling part and deduct that from your riding time. I'd definitely go back for a safe and fun riding experience. read more

I have never been on a horse until I visited. I couldn't possibly leave KY without getting On a horse. My horse Gruff was super adorable. I was terrified at first and didn't really use my reins much. Gruff liked to take charge and seemed to know what the heck he was doing. My guide was very pleasant and nice. She seems to love doing her job and very passionate about the horses. All in all I had fun. I think the trails could be better and more scenery. They had like manmade (horse made in this case) paths which could have been cleared. read more

I've always wanted to go horseback riding and this was the perfect place for a beginner. They are really patient with teaching you how to hold the reigns, when/where to lean, etc. I actually came here twice and both times the leaders were super friendly and you could just tell they're passionate about horses. The piece of land itself is gorgeous and diverse and large enough to make for an interesting ride. They have a variety of horses of different sizes that they can pair with you depending on preferences, height, etc. Overall a great experience and would definitely recommend going. read more

There are a lot of glowing reviews, so maybe this was an off-day? Let me tell you about it. I'm a beginner. The last time I was on a horse was when I was a small child. I remember it being a very pleasant memory. I filled out some paperwork, circled BEGINNER and that was about it. I had to ask if I could take a helmet off the wall. The next thing I know, our group is mounting horses. There were absolutely no instructions given prior to the ride. Everybody got on the horse, and it was every man for himself. I know for a fact I wasn't the only "beginner" on that ride. So where do I start? The horses were grumpy because it was hot and muddy, and they had to climb up and downhill. They were biting each other, taking unintelligble "shortcuts" through bramble and trees, and were just being intolerable sh*theads in general. Whatever, I get it. I'd be pretty irritable if I had to walk nose-to-tail through the woods all day long too. But the worst was this handler who was shrieking like a harpy the entire ride. I fully expected this lady to dismount her horse at any moment to tend to some bubbling cauldron she had hidden in the woods. There was a Spanish man, who was so composed on his horse, I thought he was a handler. He was giving instructions to his wife and children in Spanish. She starts bellowing: "THE HORSES DON'T UNDERSTAND SPANISH, THEY ONLY SPEAK ENGLISH." I'm not sure if it was an attempt at a joke or not, but it fell flat. Cool, racism. That was pretty awkward. But the worst was her constant badgering of all the other riders. The horses were misbehaving and impatient. She was busy placing the blame on all of the other riders. If she wasn't screaming at us because we weren't holding the reins or sitting correctly (because she didn't bother to teach us how) she was yelling about how she dropped her hat on the ground, or about how all horses all three-year-olds. So here I am attempting to steer my horse. I'm pushing off of trees because he went completely AWOL. I was yanking thorns out of my knees. He was running me up against a barbed wire fence. Hell, he he was grazing ON the barbed wire. He didn't care. WHY IS THERE BARBED WIRE ON THIS TRAIL? CAN SOMEONE EXPLAIN THIS, PLEASE? I came out of this bruised, bloodied and traumatized. The best part was that this lady was screaming that it was my fault for the better part of an hour, (offering no solutions of course) until the end of the ride when she finally accepted he was just ornery and probably shouldn't be on the trail. It was a miracle nobody was seriously injured due to Whispering Woods' utter incompetence. If you're a beginner, I don't recommend this. Actually, even if you're an expert, I wouldn't recommend this unless you're a masochist and you miss your beastly ex-wife nagging you at the supper table. Here are some ideas, Whispering Woods: - Unless you want to educate and give riders some instruction prior to a very taxing ride through the deep woods, then don't let beginners ride. - Get rid of this completely unhinged, racist woman. She stressed us all out. She was scaring the riders and she was scaring the horses. This WAS NOT a peaceful or pleasant ride for anybody. This is the sorta woman who narrates my nightmares. I loved the "REMEMBER TO TIP YOUR HANDLERS" signs, haha, I really did. - Clear out your BARBED WIRE, and maybe even consider clearing the trail a little bit better. read more

My daughter and I stop here every year on our way to Rolex games. This is not you basic, boring trail riding where every horse just walks on a flat path. They take you through existing trails and many times create your own. Across streams and up and down the Kentucky hills, walking and trotting at times. Staff is excellent, great deal for the money, truly doesn't get any better. Take the one hour ride option, 30min would be too short. read more

The staff were great. The guide placed our 9 yr. old son behind her so she could help him & be close to quickly resolve any horsey behavior. That was kind but also very wise. The trail was through the mountains; up hills, down hills and across a little creek. Despite the upper 80's temp. we remained cool because the entire trail was under the forest canopy. My 16 year old son and I enjoyed a very pleasant and professional horseback ride through the woods at this nice, affordable farm. It was a 50 minute ride at a slow walk, suitable for beginners. The horses are well trained and calm. The trails are rustic and woodsy. The horses are not tied together and sometimes do take alternate paths. Please note: the trail guides are not paid unless you tip, somehow they are classified as "volunteers". When you pay upfront by credit card it is possible that you do not know this and may not tip the same way. I made this mistake and I felt that I should have done more. I don't know how this is possible ... but that is the way it is run. read more
