Service is still very good, appetizer was excellent however tuna was not quality and the bread pudding was commercial garbage. Expensive and I would not mind if it was exceptional but it wasn't . We have been to Whispers many times over the years and I believe one of the best compliments you can give a restaurant is that it is consistently very good. Every time we go there we know that the service will be top notch and our food will be about as good as it can get. We always find Whispers to be a lovely evening. We recently had soup and salad course which was fresh and such a delight. Our glasses were always kept full, but at the same time, the wait staff was not over bearing. They allowed the proper time between courses, which we are a stickler about. The staff will interact with you only as needed or as you interact with them (they are very personable). Our main courses came out and were perfect. The Sea Bass was deliciously flakey and the Duck came out medium and soooo tender. Dessert was fresh and sweet. The fact that they have different types of esspresso sends me over the top. We really always enjoy ourselves. This place never lets us down. My husband and I have be coming to Whisper's for the past 3 years. In fact, it is one our favorite restaurants! We have introduced Whisper's to many family and friends over the years who have also become very fond of their food and atmosphere. My husband requested that we go here for his birthday with his immediate family, our 1 year old daughter and nephew. When I made the reservation, I requested the fist seating (530pm) and also the private room: 1.) We were a large party and 2.) We had 2, 1 year old children and did not feel the main dining room would be appropriate for them or the other guests. When we arrived, we immediately felt an uncomfortable vibe from the staff. It was obvious that they were not happy there were 2 young children in our party. We specifically requested the private room for this reason (we were the only party dining in that room) so the children would not be confined to their seats the entire meal and disrupt the other patrons. Our food was rushed and we were out the door in about an hour which is pretty fast for a party of 10 with several courses. Upon leaving, my father-in-law expressed his dissatisfaction with the maître d' who was less than professional. I called today to speak with the owner/manager, Nick, who happened to be the 'maître d'' we chatted with on Saturday. I explained that I wish his staff would have communicated that they preferred no children when I made the reservation (which I made one month in advance); I would have been disappointed, but would have much preferred their honestly. Instead, he screamed saying that I was an awful parent who let my child and nephew run around like "ANIMALS" and that they were a danger to his staff. I am still in shock as I have never been spoken to like this before. He ended his conversation stating that my family and I are never welcome in his restaurant again. I'm appalled. I guess he feels his business is doing well enough that he can speak/behave in such a disgusting manner. read more

Not a pleasant dinning experience. Major noise level, very expensive. Stuffy and dated décor. I had the worst crab cakes I've ever had...tasted nothing like crab. 2 Other fish entrees were just OK. Whispers was good not great. Maybe I'm a bit picky after dining out in the city, but overall not a memorable experience. It was convenient since it was walking distance from our B and B. I found out early on there wasn't a view (despite it being listed as a restaurant with a view on yelp) but they told me immediately when I put it in my request. The decor was a bit stuffy and the restaurant was tiny. Service was ok (they never refilled my water and the waitress did not know the specials off the top of her head which is common in NYC restaurants but she was very nice). The food was pretty good. The bread was warm. We split a kale salad (which had more spring mix than kale, however the watermelon in it was delish), my fiancé got the veal (great sauce, a lot of bone) and I got the lobster and crab cake (crab cake was fishy tasting, lobster had no seasoning/butter, the potatoes and wonton were good). For dessert we split the cookie cake which was delicious (granted it was cookie and ice cream- a great combo). I liked that it was byob and helped with the check damage. read more

This was our third time dining at Whispers over the past 2 years. I really felt badly for those who have not had wonderful experiences there. We always enjoy a wonderful meal and outstanding service. The staff is so pleasant and professional with the guests and with one another. It is a BYOB but they do have an arrangement with a New Jersey winery to offer wine by the bottle. Otherwise, you are free to bring your own beer, wine, or cocktails. The sushi menu is only offered in the summer months. In a previous review, I mentioned that I consider this a special occasion restaurant as the prices are a bit high, but you definitely do get quality for what you pay. read more

We had reservations today - Mothers Day and my NY Strip came out cold (medium well). As was the asparagus and mashed potatoes. Sent back and they reheated the steak but not the veggies and mashed. Sent back again and finally came out editable. Nobody other than our server apologized or acknowledged this HUGE fail. At $75 PP fixed menu it should have been perfect. read more

Whispers provides about the finest dining you can find at the Jersey Shore. This small restaurant within an inn in Spring Lake reminds me of eating in someone's dining room. The decor is very nice and tables are far enough apart to create a very positive dining experience. The food is always exceptional, if a little pricey. The wait staff is par excellence. This BYO should be at the top of your list for a special event or if just want to treat yourself. read more

Went to Whispers with a group of 4 for a weeknight dinner. It is located in a cute little B&B. Nice, beach-like decor and a friendly waitstaff. The menu is somewhat limited but covers the basics of fish, chicken, lamb... Our group had the filet, lobster special, lamb, and new york strip. All were fantastic (I tasted them all). Fresh ingredients artistically prepared and plated beautifully. A bit on the expensive side but BYOB and no corkage fee made it worth it. I highly recommend. It is more on the formal side and full of regulars so probably not great for a big family. read more

This was a nice place for a fancy dinner down the shore area. We decided on this place, based on the menu. Crabcakes were a bit disappointing, but chicken dish was really good. We had dinner with another couple and the food and service were wonderful. Lobster was cooked perfectly, as well as the filet mignon. It was worth every penny! We were not rushed which makes for an enjoyable night. All of us brought something different to drink and they kept it chilled and ready. We are planning to return for our next couples dinner. We were visiting Spring Lake and planned to celebrate our 20th anniversary at Whispers for dinner. We had reservations and when we arrived 10 minutes late the owner treated us with extreme rudeness. We were told that he had given our table away - he "had other people celebrating" and scolded for what we thought was a slight tardiness. The table was not filled until later. We were shocked by this but stayed as we were hungry with no other place lined up to go.When we arrived home the next day there were two impatient messages on our machine asking for confirmation of a reservation. Being away from home we had no idea of these calls but evidently we were being punished for not returning a phone call. This kind of testiness has no place in restaurant anywhere but especially in one charging such high prices. There was arrogance where there should have been graciousness. The food was fine without being exceptional but the whole place reeks of a preciousness that is quickly going out of fashion. Certainly, such high handed rudeness has never been in fashion. We wrote to the restaurant following this explaining their mistake in try in to reach us at our home when we were away on vacation and received no response. Dining out should be a complete experience and this kind of unpleasantness creates the worst kind of atmosphere. Totally unacceptable behavior especially for the owner of restaurant. read more

It just doesn't get any better than Whispers, and not just in Spring Lake, but almost anywhere. From beginning to end service and food quality is impeccable. It's byob, but they still always attend to keeping your glass full. We've eaten here many times over the years, and have never had a server who was less than outstanding, so their vetting is excellent. Food quality is first rate, as is selection. Ordinarily I would recommend a particular dish or warn about something to avoid, but honestly everything from fish to meat is great here. Last time one of our group had a steak, another halibut, both were melt in your mouth good. If I have one minor complaint, it's that the excellent pastry chef who used to be there seems to have left, and she was fantastic. The deserts seems to have suffered as a result - not bad, just not consistent with the excellence of the meal. Order the specials for dinner, and have one of their specialty coffees afterwards. You can always go to Hoffmanns for ice cream. read more
