Stopped in at 6:30pm before closing - no problem. We ate well before Grandmas! We had breakfast for dinner and a California burger with the turkey dumpling soup (yum!). Added a chocolate pancake - spot on - and a slice of strawberry rhubarb pie. Joyce in the kitchen bakes them fresh every day we were told. Yes yes yes to home cooking and baking! Homey, little diner in Hinckley. Not a ton of parking available, but you can't fit many people inside anyway. We had the Reuben, A.M. Train Wreck, and Creamy Polish Kraut soup. Server was polite enough, not too slow, but looked a bit harried. We had to ask for silverware karma catch up, a to-go box, and a coffee refill. Coffee and food were just OK. The vegetables in the Train Wreck were fresh and the helpings were good size. You are expected to put your own 1000 island dressing on the Reuben though as they provide a side of it with the sandwich. Could be good if your picky about the amount of dressing you want on your sandwich! read more

Oh dear. Small town cafe that was very busy so we assumed the food must be good. Wrong. Service was EXTREMELY slow and disorganized. Food took forever to arrive. No mayo on the BLTs, one person didn't receive 1/2 of their lunch until the rest of us were finished. Bread pudding was stale and loaded with cloves. Eggs were runny. Waitress couldn't figure out the new POS system so she told my husband he'd " have to figure it out ". Definitely would not go back. read more

This is a nice little hole-in-the-wall establishment. The staff are super friendly and definitely made our group of eight feel very welcome, despite the place being small and packed for lunch already. The food was all very tasty. My only real complaint is that my burger was so soaked in grease that my bottom bun was already completely soggy by the time I got it. No one else's burger was like this, just mine. Well worth the stop for local charm and home cooking. I'd recommend the Eggs Benedict which were today's special. I loved that they came on top of hash browns! Someone in the kitchen knows the grill well, the ham was perfectly caramelized! They accommodated our special requests and made sure the coffee was topped off. This was a spur of the moment stop on the way to Duluth. We like to visit the local cafes. The Whistle Stop didn't disappoint. Homemade hot beef lunch was tasty and generous portions. Yep, it's true. This is a great, local diner for breakfast or lunch. And they have pie! (8 the day we were there.) The country fried steak breakfast special (sub a home-made biscuit for the toast and plead for a bit extra gravy :-) ) was great and a real bargain. My daughter's sandwich was exactly what she wanted. Throw in warm and personable service, good prices, and you're set. Well worth the stop in Hinkley. read more

This is a small homestyle cafe. I know places with better breakfasts, but not at these prices. It was busy, but the waitress and kitchen were both up to handling it. The staff was friendly. We went here for breakfast on this last Saturday. I had a meat omelette with spinach and tomatoes with hash browns. It was really good however we had been there the year before and it was better then. They seem to have reduced the veggies they put in but it was still good. Stopped into the Whistle Stop Cafe' on Monday, May 29, 2017 - Memorial Day. Restaurant is very clean, Server was very nice and attentive. Prices were excellent. Food was phenomenal. We stopped in around 10:30 AM and found out we could have breakfast ALL DAY. The menu is perfect size for the size of the Cafe'. Plenty of choices with very fair prices. Hot food is hot and cold food is cold! Portions were generous! Pies are home-made from scratch and divine. We were so pleased with our food that we stopped back at 6:00 PM and had supper. We had the steak special and our steaks were cooked perfectly to order. And we did have pie again. A must stop if you are passing through Hinckley and do not want to put up with the super high cost of casino food or the fast food type atmosphere. read more

Such a gem! Very easily accessible from the highway and very clean. Food was wonderful (classic diner menu) and our server Missy was a joy (despite our rambunctious children!). Stopped on a whim, because there were so many local cars parked up and down the block. Service was quick and friendly, and food was to die for. Best curly fries anywhere. I had the train wreck burger, 1/3 lb which I normally can't finish and I ate every bite. My husband had a breakfast - veggie omelet- also amazing. So happy to have a new home style restaurant in Hinckley. This is a cute little cafe. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive. We had breakfast.
