Whistle Stop is no longer in business. The site is now the home of the Change Cafe ( haven't tried it but heard rave reviews) for breakfast, and the Mission Mexicana for dinner. We have had the Mexican food and good it to be excellent with a friendly staff and owners. Both restaurants are non-profits so some of your food costs go to helping others. Cute little place along the main street in Cascade. Me and a couple friends stopped by for brunch on our way back to Boise. They got breakfast and I got lunch. All was pretty good. We started with drinks. Me a bloody mary and them mimosas. I asked for spicy and it was perfect. The only thing I'd change was the piece of bacon that was actually in the drink. Cold bacon and bacon fat is not appetizing. Maybe it added some flavor to the drink, but I'd prefer not to have to fish it out. Service was slow. Especially when we got there and it wasn't busy. Our servers kept flipping between two guys and they didn't seem to communicate well. But both were very nice and fun to joke around with. Took a long time for drinks to arrive, then for someone to come back and take our food order, and finally for the food to arrive. When the food did arrive it was pretty good. I got the cheesesteak sandwich with a side salad. It was delicious, but smaller than I expected. The salad was exactly as I'd expect it. But very heavy on the raw chopped white onions. My friends got one of the breakfast skillets and the other got the avocado toast with poached eggs. Both said their dishes were good, but the poached egg was WAY over cooked. Closer to hard-boiled. But she said it was still very good. We all got a humungous cinnamon roll to take home with us for later. It was so good heated up the next day. Over all, we really liked this place. And agreed we'd definitely come back. We'd just plan for a little bit longer dinning time. read more

The service last night was terrible! We arrived at 5:45pm with another couple, ordered 2 large pizzas and waited 65 minutes to get our dinner delivered to the table! The male server came to the table around 6:35 to say sorry for the wait, we want to make sure it's fully cooked, well ours was, like the crust was a couple shades from burnt. No apology or explaination as to why the extremely long wait. We notice four other parties attive after us, ordered their dinner, was served, ate and left before we got our meal. I had the salmon dinner food was good, but salad was a romaine style lettuce (don't like), bake potato with butter and sour cream-got just about a tablespoon of sour cream whereas tarter sauce about 1/2 cup. What brought down from a 5 star rating in the atmosphere is there is nothing to help deaden the noise and level was so loud that I ended up getting a headache with the place almost full. This is a nice little restaurant. Looks as though it's been freshly remodeled compared to the last inside photos. We got 2 pizzas, they were very good but very small, surprisingly filling though with how generously topped they were. Definitely will be back to try more on the menu. I probably should have given it 5 stars but the gravy on the homemade biscuits was an insult to such a fine mix of flour. Sarah is such a nice person and a wonderful baker I think I could eat there every day. The cinnamon roll was enough for 3 people and the best I ever had. Unfortunately not impressed at all...asked for medium rare prime rib, got well past done...son ordered a burger and it's the same...dry, overcooked, and a bun that is homemade (I believe) but would be better off as store bought. My husband and I stopped here for breakfast/lunch like we always do when on our way to Moscow. We had not visited the Whistle Stop since the new remodel with new ownership. We were delighted with the changes-the updated interior and the interesting new menu. My husband's loved the chorizo omelette and I enjoyed the finger steaks. We will continue to visit the Whistle Stop when we travel to North Idaho. We also appreciated the improvements made to the restrooms! read more

This place was incredibly delicious, very inexpensive, and the staff was over the top kind and generous! My husband and I went with our two young children and ordered a Hawaiian pizza, a BBQ and cheese stuffed burger, macaroni and cheese and boneless wings. Everything was on point, absolutely delicious. And so inexpensive for the high quality. The burger was huge and the macaroni was homemade, very cheesy, and cooked with bacon in a skillet. My server thought a Hawaiian pizza was only pineapple, so she forgot the Canadian bacon. When she brought it out, I asked her to add the Canadian bacon that was missing. They put it back to the oven, cooked the Canadian bacon, it took only about 4-5 min, and then the owners comped the whole pizza for the inconvenience! I felt bad because everything was so delicious and inexpensive anyway, and it actually was not a big inconvenience at all. But they insisted on comping it, and our bill was only $36 for all that, so I decided I would leave a good review to pay them back. Thank you for your superb hospitality. Wow! This place takes me back to my childhood. What a down home place in a tiny town. This restaurant is a truly local restaurant not really catering to tourists. It's the real thing. My burger was really good. Pizza wasn't good according to my family but if you like thick crust, go for it. This is one of my families favorite spots to stop in for breakfast when we are in town. My husband loves to get the half order of biscuits and gravy where as I always enjoy just their standard two egg breakfast. I like to have my eggs served over medium. Whenever I go out for breakfast, it's so hard to find places that know how to cook eggs that way. Whistle stop can cook eggs on point! With that, if you're not a biscuit person, then you have to try their house made bread for toast. It's soft and is a wonderful side to complete your breakfast. All in all, I would highly recommend swinging by if you're not in the mood to cook your morning meal. The price is right and the portions will keep your belly nice and full. read more

This was a stop worth making. We were in the McCall heading home and wanted to grab breakfast somewhere. We tried a spot in McCall the day before ; it was ok, but not a place I would repeat in the same weekend. We settled on the pancake place to try in McCall but, alas, it was closed for parking lot paving, so we used our trusty Yelp app and found this little gem. I liked it was located on the Main Street, although it is easily missed, it is worth turning around to find it. I am a sucker for biscuits and gravy and this place has cloud like biscuits and the gravy is awesome too. We both ordered the same thing. The serving size of the 1/2 order is generous . Great spot ! Stopped in for dinner while in town on business. To be honest, I didn't have high expectations based on the weird layout of the place. I saw they had a sandwich board sign outside advertising a special of chicken fettuccine Alfredo with garlic bread and decided to go with that. It was exceptional! Nicely cooked, slightly firm but fully cooked noodles, creamy Alfredo sauce, nice portion of properly cooked juicy chicken, and sprinkled with chopped real bacon bits! Even the garlic toast was great being on light bread, perfectly seasoned, and broiler toasted. Overall, a great little restaurant in a small town. You'd do well to eat here. read more

We stopped in and sat down a little after noon and all we asked is if it was possible to cook up some eggs even though breakfast was over and the waitress got snooty and said "no but there are plenty of restaurants around who are" basically inviting us to leave so that's exactly what we did.
