True MN Americana. Great food. True locals. Friendly waitress singing "Goodbye Earl" along with the radio. A must stop for tourists to MN. Homemade pie galore.

This place is perfect! Ambiance is cute, service was excellent, food is tasty! Stopped in on a Friday afternoon on our way up north. We were greeted right away by our server and told to sit anywhere. We ordered the cowboy burger, patty melt, and Reuben. All were delicious! I'd recommend the patty melt for sure. For dessert we split a slice of the peanut butter pie - AMAZING. I would come back just for the pie.

This is NOT a corned beef Reuben... this is NOT corned beef. I was today years old when I learned that corned beef comes in a can I guess?

I am so surprised by the positive reviews... I was looking for a place along the route between Duluth and Minneapolis. Hinckley is a great stopping point and I went out of my way to find a place less know than the legendary Tobies. This cafe is clean and cute inside BUT had to take off the stars for the actual food. Let's just say everything we had was below average and the Reuben sandwich I had was purely inedible. I guess it's my bad for ordering an "exotic" food for central MN but it was on the menu... I don't know what it was that I was served but surely not corned beef that goes on a Reuben. Then we thought "maybe this is a breakfast place?" but sadly my daughter's eggs were rubbery, thin and bland, so there goes that theory!

Very good breakfast and lunch spot. Traditional cafe food done well with pie for dessert. Some train decor, thought there might be more of that with the name, but it is minimal. Friendly service and small town cafe feel.

For generations, it…read morehas been a must-visit destination for travelers heading, making it much more than just a restaurant. It's a Minnesota tradition. As soon as I announced I was going to Hinckley everyone who had been told me I just had to try Tobie's. What makes Tobies special is the combination of comfort food, an incredible bakery, and the nostalgic feeling that comes with walking through the doors. Fresh-baked breads, pastries, pies, cookies, and their famous caramel rolls line the bakery shelves, while their signature cornbread is a favorite that many visitors take home. Be sure to browse the gift shop, where you'll find locally made products, snacks, and their popular popcorn blends that make great road trip treats or souvenirs. Whether you're stopping for breakfast before exploring the area, grabbing lunch on your way to a Hinckley Knights game, or picking up baked goods for the drive home, Tobies is part of the experience. Our favorites were the apple fritter and the caramel roll. We also picked up bread and English muffins. If we had any more room we would have tried the ice cream, but there is always next time.

We made our stop about 8am on a Sunday in June. We didn't go to the sit-down restaurant, just the bakery counter. We picked out an apple fritter, maple fried roll, and cinnamon roll. My husband had a coffee, too. I'm very glad they had napkins and also packaged moist towelettes for us to take as we headed out. Everything was quite good. The apple fritter was special because it was still warm, and so fresh that it still had an airy texture. The bite of maple fried roll I had was good. The bulk of the cinnamon roll was mine, and wow, it was fantastic. I loved the generous amount of frosting, and the bread was soft and good. There are many more things here I want to try, but they will need to wait for another trip north!

The bar area that we walked through seemed like a great place to gather and enjoy a cold beverage. My wife ordered the grilled shrimp and she said it was some of the best she has had in a long time. I ordered the t-bone steak and it was cooked the way I ordered it and came with a lot of Montreal steak season on it but it did taste just fine. Our server kept the kids drinks full as well as our beers full. Before we left we got to meet the owners and both of them where very nice and shared some information about their great smoked meats they're so proud of. We will be back to try this out as we don' t live too far away.

The food is a step up from the typical "bar" food you find in the north woods. The pulled pork is wonderful (sandwich and nachos). Cheese curds come with two dipping sauces, ranch and chipotle-ranch choices. The broasted chicken is my favorite in the area, but not served on Fridays. Fridays they have a fish fry. They have a dining area that is separate from the bar area, both serve drinks and food. The restaurant is clean and there is a good atmosphere. We will be back.
