Not the best experience. I purchased my vehicle in February. I unfortunately had to get a new vehicle due to my other vehicle being a total loss. The staff weren't exactly helpful. They definitely don't like kids touching vehicles that are parked inside the dealership. Which is odd but whatever. I also don't appreciate having come in there preapproved through my means of finance and having them tell me because my cosigner is in a different state they wouldn't use my means of auto loan. They pushed me to use the one they provided. Very frustrating considering i was on a time crunch with the rental car as well as having to pick my children up from school on time. They weren't trying to be helpful at all and zero communication between anyone. read more

Now on my second Buick from Whitaker and fourth lifetime Buick I am somewhat biased on these cars. Whitaker has performed service efficiently and quickly. When they moved from St. Paul to Forest Lake I stopped using their service resorting to local gas stations. The local service was fine for oil changes and tire rotations but had difficulty with more complex problems. Back to Whitaker even though now it's a 25 mile drive and they had a quick and accurate diagnosis of a problem and repaired in an hour. As for the purchase there was little need for anxiety as everything was made clear and our Sales Rep provided full disclosure and let us take our time to make the right decision. read more

Very Unhappy with my Truck buying experience at Whitaker. Salesperson was arrogant. Our Vehicle was Titled incorrectly and against our wishes, leaving us with a $80,000 Truck that we have been unable to drive Until the issue is resolved. Their office lied when the said they tried to call us several times. They failed to contact us thru any other form of communication (Email or Mail). We had to take out another loan to clear up their mistake! Nobody would own up to the fact that they went ahead and Titled the truck incorrectly against our wishes, They just said " what's done is done" and the salesperson said "It's no big deal". This has been one of the worst Truck buying Experiences we have ever had! We will definitely think twice before buying from Whitaker again. read more

Was very pleased with the work completed by the service department, however don't trust the general manager, Jim Bush or the finance manager Bob. They are selling an extended warranty that they don't fully understand and ultimately do not back up. Bob will attempt to sell you a "Bumper to Bumper" extended warranty that covers everything with the exception of general maintenance and upkeep (tires, breaks, etc.). I have had two issues with my truck that the extended warranty company does not cover, sunroof and a failed mechanism in a seat both of which Bob stressed should be covered yet it is not and Whitaker will not honor what they sold to me. Very poor customer experience. Even went to Steve Whitaker, the owner and he would not back up what they sold. read more

I purchased a vehicle from Whitaker "as is" a few months ago. The vehicle to my eye checked out well, and looked to be in good shape. Some issues came up with the vehicle after purchasing it, and although I did not purchase the extended warranty, Steve Whitaker helped me pay for the repairs which was a class act on his behalf, even though he had no obligation to. Whitaker advertises "Buy from Anywhere", however as an out of state buyer I was not treated with the respect I expected with that statement. After more than 3 weeks of communication and waiting for advertised vehicle to arrive on their lot, I was not given the chance of first refusal, they went ahead and let a walk in customer put a hold on the vehicle after I said OK on pricing. Buying a truck from Whitaker has been horrible. We have been waiting 4 months for our license plates only to find out they sold a us a truck before they had cleared the lien. Now we are struggling to get this resolved. We were told they can get this resolved in 4-6 weeks. Who buys a truck and can't get a clear title for over 5 months! That is how long we have been waiting for the title. We can't even sell the truck. I would NEVER recommend Whitaker to anyone. This is an update as of 5/25/17. We have made several calls to Whitaker to get a clear title issued as you would expect when buying from a dealer. Now we don't get called back. Brought my 2018 truck in to have them resolve the Brake Assist. recall and had them look at my front right brake also, it was dragging a bit. Told me all 4 brakes were metal on metal and it would cost around $700 to replace. Since it was a '2018 I had a hard time believing this so I took it to my local auto repair shop and they said the front right was bad but the back brakes were 60%-70% to the good! I love Whitaker Buick in Forest Lake! They really care about their customers and want them to love their vehicles. The staff are always extremely friendly, informative and helpful! I was on my way to work and a light came on in my car that worried me. I called my husband and he called Jim B. at Whitaker. Jim took care of everything. He met my husband at the hospital where I work, took my car to have it fixed and brought it back to the same spot I parked it when I arrived at work that day. I was so busy at work that I was unable to speak with Jim, but he was able to get everything done and have my car back before my work day was over. I purchased a 2009 Buick Enclave from this dealership in May and it is now September. In the short time I have owned the car it has needed new timing chains, a new mode door actuator for the heater/AC and had a recall on the seat belt which had not been addressed by the dealership before selling the car to me. I feel that these problems should have been fixed by the dealership before selling the car to me. Naturally I did not buy the extended warranty. read more

Buyer beware. We purchased a 2012 Certified used Buick Lacrosse from the dealer on 3/2018 within 10 months of the purchase the engine completely failed. The engine that was covered by the warranty, but the warranty company refused to pay for the repairs. I had to shell out 3,500 to pay for a used engine to be installed on the vehicle. Now the vehicle is still stalling due to some electrical issues. read more

Buyer beware we purchased a Buick Lacrosse hybrid last March from them and 10 months later the engine goes out completely. Not only did the warranty company that they have refuse to cover it we had to pay for a costly diagnosis just to tell us the engine was out $400. Steer clear of this place, they make sure not to honor the warranty and send you around in circles playing games with you. I will never purchase another vehicle from them and now we have to wait until June to take them to court about it. They have not tried to rectify the situation either so I wanted to make sure to warn others who may be out shopping for a vehicle right now, skip this place. Certfied pre-owned means nothing to them and they will find a way not to pay up. read more

This is the best experience I have ever had at a dealership. I started going there for service a few years ago on a Pontiac G6 that was not purchased from them. They were always friendly and took great care of me and my car, as if I had purchased it from them. One freezing cold night I was driving home from work on 35E and I heard this terrible noise and realized it was coming from my car. When I got home I told my fiancé what it sounded like and he said it sounded like it was the bearings. I googled it and they had a demonstration that showed what it would sound like if it was the bearings, and I was sure it was. I knew it would be expensive to fix!! I called Whitaker Buick the next morning and they didn't have any appointments but told me to bring my car down and they would check it out when they got a chance. Later that day I got a call saying I could come and pick up my car. He said we think it was ice caught up in the wheel. They had put it up on a hoist and checked it out and didn't find anything wrong with the bearings. When I got there they gave me an invoice explaining what they had done and it said no charge!! I decided right then and there that when I bought a new car it would be from them. I love my new Buick LaCrosse! Everyone their has been great my sales person who spent a lot of time with me showing me how to run the computer system. The service department that answers any concerns I have, and a special thanks to their finance manager who stayed way past closing to make it possible for me to drive my new car home that evening. Whitaker is always been a home town truck dealership. I have purchased all new, GMC trucks. While all makes ,I find, all have troubles, I think Whitaker tries to make it right. I just picked up my 2015 HD Denali from Sarah and Mike, and they addressed the problems, and the truck looks better than new. read more

I recently was at Whitaker GMC to test drive a 2008 Yukon Denali and my experience was so terrible there, I felt the need to write my first review on Yelp.com. I went to Whitaker on a Thursday and met with a salesman named "Roger". I explained to Roger that I have a process when I purchase a vehicle. 1. I am looking for very specific vehicles and I narrow my search down to 3 from doing research online. 2. I call to see if the vehicle is available to take in for a test drive and get inspected. 3. While I am getting it inspected, please look at my vehicle that I will be trading in to see how much they will offer for a trade in. I don't want to haggle on price, just give me the best price on the vehicle that you can minus what you can offer for trade in and I'll make my decision from there. I will drive the other 2 vehicles on Friday, and make my decision on Saturday. Roger informed me that he would like to let me know how much they would offer on a trade if I decide that I want the 2008 Yukon. I told him no, because how much they offer for the trade will determine if I want that vehicle because the other vehicles are similar in price. I asked him to please get a trade in value while I am gone, he agreed. I took the vehicle to Goodyear to get a prepurchase inspection and they found a few typical things wrong with in and gave me an estimate of $2,200.00 to fix the problems. I returned to the dealership and sat down with Roger. He said that they would offer me $5,000.00 for my trade in, I was asking for $8,000.00. I showed him what needed to be fixed on the vehicle and told him I wouldn't be buying anything today because I wanted to test drive the other 2 vehicles. If they are willing to fix any of the mechanical issues on the car or reduce the price because of the problems, great, if not, it doesn't matter, just please email me a final sales order with the best price possible so I can evaluate all 3 before purchasing. Roger immediately told me that he doesn't work that way and wants to see what he can do to get me the vehicle today since I drove all the way up there from Prior Lake (1 hour away). He asked if I would wait 4 minutes while he talks with his manager about seeing what they can do with the trade in. I told him that I wasn't going to wait and asked him to just email me with the final offer price. (One of my pet peeves is how long you sit at dealerships) He went on about how he's personally bought over 30 vehicles and it just doesn't work that way, the whole process takes time. I told him I don't care if he thinks it doesn't work that way. That's the way I want to do it. He told me that he doesn't email and that he will call me on Saturday to see what I decided. I left with a sour taste in my mouth from a pushy salesman. I test drove the other 2 vehicles and they offered $6,000 and $7,500 respectively. All of the vehicles that I drove were w/in $500.00 of each other for purchase price, so the trade in was a big factor for me, but I didn't want any of them to know that. I received a call from Roger on Saturday morning. He asked me if I still wanted the vehicle, I responded by telling him that I would be talking to him if I wasn't. I asked him for his final offer and he told me he would check with his manager and call me back. 5 minutes later I received a call from "Doug" his manager. Doug was wondering what my decision on the price was and that he doesn't normally work like this because he doesn't like to "play games". I informed Doug that Roger never emailed me a final offer like I had asked or even told me what the final purchase price would be. Doug told me $23,000 and asked what I thought. I told him that the another dealer came in lower than that. He asked what the price should be for us to close the deal. I told him that he said his best offer was $23,000 so that's it. He asked if we could talk about it and I told him no. Once he realized that I wouldn't be purchasing from them he got a tone and attitude in his voice that was extremely rude. I ended up buying an identical vehicle from another dealer that offered $7500.00 for my trade in and was very happy with the purchase. I would not recommend Roger as a salesman, or Whitaker as a dealership as manager "Doug" did not represent management well. Roger and Doug are the epitome of the typical "game playing, price haggling, let's see how bad you really want this vehicle" salesmanship that is the sole reason I hate purchasing vehicles. read more

My truck was brought in for the windshield washer recall. When i picked up the truck I immediately noticed my programer was not working. It was working at the time I left it in the service bay. The manufacturer of the programer advised that my truck computer had been "flashed" by the service tech, thus erasing the programer codes and essenstially destroying the programmer. When I spoke with Brian, the service manager, he denied that the truck had been connected to a the techs computer. The manufacturer states that is the only way the programs are deleted from the programer. Considering this level of service provided, this will be my last service trip to Whitaker as well as I will never purchase another vehicle from them. Whitaker service tech distroyed my $450 Edge Programer and to lie about connecting my truck and reflasing my computer is unacceptable!! read more
