Tonight was my first time having White Castle. I'm not from the US and I've seen people eating White Castle in so many movies!! I was intrigued! I tried the original sliders, the original sliders with regular cheese, sliders with jalapeño cheese and sliders with smoked cheddar cheese. The ones with jalapeño cheese were the BEST of the night. I didn't read any of the reviews before going there since my husband suggested eating there when we were basically out the street. They come in little individual boxes which is a waste of material but they do keep the little sandwiches alive without being smushed. The bread is SO soft. Harold and Kumar had the right idea! Those little tiny burgers were worth all the stuff they went through! For my short visit in Chicago I had to try this place, they pop up like McDonald's in LA. Let's see what the hype is all about. 20 please, 10 cheeseburger, 5 regular and 5 Jalapeno cheeseburger (which tasted like pepper jack cheese) I wasn't able to eat these little critters fresh but once I got them back to LA, I popped them in the oven and viola, BOMB! These tiny burgers are good and I can see why you would have to order a crap load of these. You can't get enough. Onions cooked into the meat, with one pickle and cheese. Super yummy! I want MORE!!! My friend (looooong story) went on a company-sponsored trip last year, in which he and three colleagues rented an RV and travelled to each state with a White Castle. They ate White Castle almost every meal for four days. He loves the joint but doesn't eat beef and was interested in trying the pulled pork sandwich. So when I couldn't think of any non-Mexican late-night places within striking distance of where we were (Avondale-ish), this became our destination. God forgive me for acquiescing. Anyway, the "food" is terrible. Honestly, I can't believe that ANYbody likes this stuff. Some places are crappy quality and bad for you but still taste good and people love them. No harm done. But how anybody can enjoy this dreck is beyond me. Shame on you if you are one of them. The "slider": BLECH. D-. This thing is slimy enough but then they roll it in a wrapper so that the steam can turn the bun into mush. Disgusting. The onion rings: Hands down the worst that I have ever had. F. The fries: Limp but okay. C-. The barbecue pulled pork: Also okay. C-. The fish sandwich: Utterly wretched. D-. Chicken ring: The idea is astonishing but in any case it didn't taste half bad. C. We wanted to end the meal with a chocolate shake but the machine was already being cleaned for the night, to the surprise of the cashier AND the manager. So not only does their food taste awful but they are incompetent. Heaven knows whether the shake would have brought my impression up or down. Two stars instead of one because they aren't trying to be anything other than what they are. Which is, the shittiest fast food in America, a real trick when you think about it. You gotta go with Harold and Kumar on this one. These grilled sliders are pretty darn good; they're definitely better than sliders offered in most fast food restaurants. I suggest the Cheeseburger sliders (you gotta get the cheese!), they taste much better than the original sliders. Trust me, the cheese's worth it (and this is coming from a lactose intolerant guy lol). The sliders come with beef patty, onions and pickles and they are really small. But yeah, White Castle's definitely worth trying for if you're into burgers. read more

Not a fan! This was my first visit to White Castle and I wasn't impressed. My friends and I stopped by to try it out while on vacation in Chicago. Honestly the burgers taste like something frozen that I threw in the microwave. The buns are soggy and the burgers are far from fresh. They actually have a bunch just sitting there ready to serve. Oh nostalgia, how you make everything seem so much better than it actually is... The last time I had White Castle was during a school field trip 10 years ago and I remember it being delicious, probably because our orchestra teacher treated everyone. Imagine two full school busses of orchestra students pulling up to the driveway. That must have been one hell of a rush for the employees! This time, a group of friends and I dropped by for some much needed post-music festival nourishment and I was overcome with child-like joy. Just as I had remembered, the buns were warm and the flavors were simple but comforting. I had two of the regular sliders, two jalapeno sliders, and an order of the french toast sticks. It was the perfect amount of food and left me satisfied. The french toast sticks were warm and crunchy. Apparently they have Belgian waffles now, which had me intrigued. I wish they recycled the little boxes or maybe stopped putting each slider in its own little box...It seems a little wasteful to me. The best part was that the employees were very friendly and accommodating even late at night. This White Castle had the best customer service and cleanest bathrooms/seating I have seen in years. read more

This is my favorite white castle. I drive all the way over here from the southside of Chicago to treat myself. Why? Because I have never been to this Whitecastle and placed an order and their burgers came out cold. All the other white castles seem as if they cook the white castles and let them sit there waiting for people to order them and they come to you cool to the touch. At this restaurant however when you get your white castles whether it is early in the afternoon or late in the evening they are always steaming hot just like I like them. And their fries are always hot too. This is the only white castle in the Chicagoland area that I have been to that their food is consistently good. Oh and another bonus with this Whitecastle is that it always looks clean. There is not a white castle in the city on the southside the looks sanitary. Oh and another bonus is that they're nice and fast. Some of the other places will give you cold burgers and it takes 10 minutes for you to get your food. If it takes 10 minutes then why the heck is it cold?!?! it should be steaming hot!!! With that being said I visited today and had a slight disappointment but I'm not going to deduct any stars since they're normally really good. I ordered their mozzarella sticks and like their burgers they came out nice and hot. The problem is that the mozzarella sticks tasted like fish. I have no idea how that happened unless someone stuck them in the same oil they use to cook the little fish bite offerings in. I don't know maybe these are microwave cheese sticks and in that case I can't really explain why they taste like fish but they do but that's OK because I don't come to Whitecastle for mozzarella sticks I come for their piping hot sliders and those as usual did not disappoint. read more

I love sliders--but to be honest, I basically came to White Castle, just to say that I went there. And I'm glad I did! The sliders are yummy and CHEAP. I ordered 6 and it was less than $6. I tried the original, bacon and jalapeno. Out of the three, my favorite is the jalapeno, which is basically the original with jalapeno cheese. The bacon is good, too. The crispiness of the bacon goes well with the sogginess (in a good way) of the buns. I'm not sure if it's just this location or if I came at a weird time...but it seems so lonely! There were absolutely no cars in the parking lot and no customers inside (I actually thought it was closed). Overall, this good, cheap and quick fast food. Being from California, I've waited for the day when I can finally try White Castle. Driving around our first day in Chicago, I just happened to see a White Castle. I knew it was an East Coast thing, but it didn't occur to me that I would find one in Chicago. I was ecstatic. Since we already had dinner, my husband and I decided to get a few sliders as a late night snack with our daughter, just to try them. We got a 4-pc meal with 2 regular sliders, 2 cheeseburgers and fries. We added an order of chicken rings (what the heck, right). The chicken rings were pretty good, but not as good as McDonald's. The sliders were juicy and tasty. Although I did like regular sliders better than the cheeseburgers. If I had a choice between White Castle or McDonalds, I would go to White Castle for sure for the sliders...(and to McDonald's for the chicken nuggets). Ordered my mom the cheese fries and me a sack of fries. White Castle has the best fast food fries. So when I got home my original sliders had cheese. I don't do cheese on burgers that's why I got the original sliders. My mom threw out the fish sandwiches. Didn't like the taste. You don't want to take chances with bad tasting fish. The chicken sandwiches were ok. I did call the restaurant and they did replace the original sliders for me. Otherwise this would of been a 2 star review. Wow! Great drive-thru staff and very courteous hoppers. Thou, 24 is easy to count, some worker today only had 23 in the bag. So, I called from the VIP parking spot and waited for #24. The last White Castle I went to was a literal dump in New Jersey. A relic (with old school menus and broken flickering lights) from the 90s, I thought all WCs were just like that. Not this location! I usually take leftovers to hand to homeless people on the street, since I hate to waste food but there was no way I would even give this food to a homeless person. Drunk and Happy, I have trundled into this White Castle many times (or swerved up to the drive through barely missing the pole). Somehow, late at night, this place calls to me like a Siren. And I come staggering. There is not a bag big enough to fit all of the burgers that I want from here. It is a wizard's balm, a secret spell of fortitude, a magical patty of love and happiness. Which is odd, because it is really a slimy little burger, and there is nothing great about it. So I guess this is a love/hate relationship. The love part: White Castle is always open as late as I need it to be. And the double cheeseburger with katsup is so grossly delicious that I can eat 6. This was my first time going to a White Castle restaurant. In California we don't have the restaurants but White Castle is available at any grocery store in the freezer section. I ordered the 4 pack combo and in a few minutes I got my order. Wow, these little burgers taste a whole lot better freshly made than the one we buy from the grocery store. Just left this place after I asked for no onions there was onion on my burgers. I went inside and told hem their were onions still there. The manager proceeded to tell me she scrapped them off so their might be some onions on the burgers but they are no onion burgers. Threw burgers in trash and will never return. Despite personally owning the google search term for 'deep fried slider' (check it out, it's a moving picture) I hadn't stepped into a White Castle for a proper meal since 1995. The 2009 visit was everything I expected it to be: it wasn't amazing, it wasn't awful and I felt no ill effects hours later. Win-win, right? My White Castle lunch at Addison and Elston featured a short line, a very friendly staff, and an accurate order. The hamburger sandwiches were tasty enough to make me forget that I'm supposed to loathe the boiled beef. Throw in an order of fries and bonus chicken-rings means I walked away feeling like I had a satisfactory meal. The restaurant was mostly clean (my table could have used a wipedown) and the white tables walls give it a bright, sterile feel.
