The pad see yew had that perfect chewy noodle texture and the Panang curry was super comforting without being too heavy. Really appreciated that they can make a lot of dishes vegan on request and were open to customizations too. I finally got to try White Crane for the first time. It's been on my list to try for a while now. The inside looked very modern and the staff was very attentive. The menu for the Thai food looked pretty similar to most Thai places with the exception of the sushi. I had to get my regular pad see ew. The flavor was good with not too much heat. It was just enough. Not much I would want to change. Maybe I would ask for a little more heat. I also tried a little of my friends pad Thai with beef. The beef was a little tough, but overall not bad. I liked that the dish was not dry at all. From the Thai dishes, I would say that the food is pretty good. I wouldn't go out of my way for it, but would come back if I was in the area. Their Thai desserts were so good! I love that the mango sticky rice uses slightly savory flavor for the rice. The taro pearl in coconut cream was also slightly savory too which really cuts the sharpness of the sweet flavors. Coconut cream flavor is strong, which is a plus. The coconut pudding has a slightly sticky rice/pudding on the bottom and coated with coconut oil, it's really flavor and good texture with the two layers. The baked taro pudding cake is probably a good option for older folks, it feels simpler, less oily/creamy but has a rich taro flavor, while still soft but has more fibers. Wow-everything we ordered was stand-out delicious. The shumai was the best I've ever had. In particular, the consistency of the center contents was almost mousse-like and thus totally consistently blended & didn't have that unfortunate squirt of liquid that so many other restaurants' shumai can have. My mom loved the Massaman Curry and I loved the Pad See Ew. My favorite menu item was probably the coconut custard for desert. It was dairy free and SO delicately flavored, with amazing taro. I've never had it before and loved it so much I subsequently Googled a recipe, to try to make it back in Boston. My biggest complaint is that I won't be able to make this my "go to" place because I live over 500 miles away. Whenever I visit family, I plan to stop back in. Service was attentive, and they were great about staying on top of refilling water (even though free). There were many tables full when we visited for lunch, but no service issues. White Crane is starting to become one of my go-to restuarants when I have no idea what to eat. Love the ambiance and decor here. They have ample seating and the noise level is perfect for conversation. Some of my favorites here are the vegetable green curry, hainan chicken and their sushi rolls! Service is always amazing, they check up on you and water is always filled. My husband's favorite is the pad prik khing w/ crispy pork & egg. All of these dishes taste very authentic and delicious. I ended up ordering tom yum soup with tofu, a side of rice, and crab Rangoon. The portions are on the smaller side for how pricey it is. I specified the time I was hoping my order would be ready by but it was done 30 mins earlier than I wanted. I was bummed about this since I felt rushed to get there and didn't want my food sitting out for so long. I think because my order was sitting in to go containers for a while this caused the crab Rangoon to no longer be crispy. Going forward I'll make sure to not order anything crispy for take out and get it while dining in instead. Flavor wise it was OK. The tom yum soup was tasty and the perfect amount of sour and sweet. I appreciated that there are other veggies (bell peppers and tomatoes) in it aside from just mushrooms. Other places I've been to they only have mushrooms as a veggie which I find underwhelming. Thankfully that is not the case at white crane. The fish sauce was a little too generous but other than that I really liked it. The atmosphere is casual. They were both great, although I would have liked a little more heat from the green curry, especially since it is described as spicy in the menu. I should also mention that the service was great! The servers were friendly, checked on us often and refilled our drinks as needed. I had such a good experience that I wanted to bring my 9yo son a few days later, and unfortunately it wasn't the same experience. My son has been wanting to try sushi, so we both ordered miso soup, a few fairly beginner sushi rolls (Alaskan and Rainbow) and the Chicken Satay as an appetizer. The satay was the only thing we liked. The miso soup had a sort of tart/acidic taste, and not so much of the umami/savory flavor that I typically expect from miso soup. My son, who is a lover of all things soup, couldn't even finish his. As far as the sushi goes, I am a huge sushi fan, and this sushi just wasn't great. I know it's typical for a rainbow roll to have imitation crab meat, but this one was mixed with mayo, like a seafood salad inside of the roll, and I really wasn't a fan. What a really cool place! We came for a lunch mid-day on a Wednesday. It wasn't too busy and staff welcomed and seated us right away. The decor is also welcoming, bright and interesting. We ordered steamed edamame, chicken pad thai and chicken fried rice. Everything came out quickly, fresh and hot! White Crane has a Southeastern Asian street vibe with plenty of seating. Decor is a mix of Asian foods, ingredients, and cinema and it's so unique. Service is friendly and attentive. I ordered both sushi and Thai food and everything was fantastic. The sushi rice and fish were spot on in terms of cut, amount of rice, and quality of roll. Dumplings can be steamed or fried, and I decided on the former. It was perfectly cooked. Panang curry was also good with a good amount of chicken (or your choice of protein including tofu), but I wish they gave more rice. We were treated by the server who seated us and asked if we had any questions.My wife is Gluten free so she took time telling her what they could make for her . If you're new to Thai or sushi then you'll love this place. -Shrimp paste rice 3.5 - I would have liked more meat in my entree since other Thai restaurants usually give me generous amounts. The meal was good but just not a lot of pork for $17. -avocado curry 3.5 - this was the same price as the other one just because they added avocado pieces. Curry was well done and slightly spicy. I've frequented restaurants in this area often but never tried white crane. I was planning to go to Morton's but the wait was too long so I stopped by white crane and I absolutely loved it. I love the decor it's such a throwback to happier times. If you've ever traveled to south Asian countries in the 90s you will relate. I honestly didn't want to leave but I was so full. The miso soup is some of the best I've had and the bowl is large for only $3. The potstickers were hot and delicious with sweet soy sauce for $7.95. For my entree I got Bbq pork pad Thai medium heat and it was so good. I will come back to try their drinks and sushi. The food was very good but the problem is noise, lots of it. The music is too loud. The chairs are extremely uncomfortable. They're an orange metal when they move, they make noise and the bar that runs through the back hits your back and it hurts. The walls are some kind of sheet metal that is corrugated adding to the sound problem along with cement floors. The waitress was very nice. We moved into a booth which helped (there are only 3).
