Sho Kalbi was an excellent experience from start to finish. Tonight they earned a place in our top 3 Naperville restaurants along side Sullivan's and Meson Sabika. Hit just right. The service was genuinely friendly and attentive, we felt like people rather than "customers. It was attentive without feeling overbearing. One thing that really stood out was the atmosphere it wasn't loud or chaotic. The seating is well spaced, making it comfortable and easy to actually enjoy the meal and one on one conversation. The food was outstanding. We definitely judge a Korean place hard with the first taste of Kimchi. It was there. Fermented with perfect balance. The meats were clearly high-end, beautifully displayed and prepared, and full of flavor. Everything felt thoughtfully done, from presentation to pacing. The vibe strikes a great balance: modern and polished, but not cold or pretentious. It feels upscale without feeling stiff. Definitely a spot I'd recommend. Unfortunately, this was a bad experience overall. The food was disappointing, the service was poor, and it felt extremely overpriced for what we got. We were told we could grill our own meats, which was part of the appeal--but then were charged for the server to cook them anyway. That should have been clearly communicated upfront. Service was painfully slow despite the restaurant being nearly empty (only two parties total). It took 29 minutes just to get the check and pay. Yet the 3 workers could pour themselves drinks at the bar, even a hand raise or staring at him didn't work. Small details were off too. The edamame came out completely unsalted, and the receipt listed it as "no salt," which we never ordered. It felt careless. The only bright spot was the kimchi fried rice, that was genuinely good. Between the seed oils used, inconsistent communication, slow service, and high prices, this place didn't come close to justifying the cost. Won't be returning read more

Took my dad here for an early Father's Day dinner and had a wonderful time! We had one order of the kalbi and one order of the Australian wagyu. The meat was delicious! High quality, tender, well seasoned and well cooked. Together with the generous side dishes that were included with the meal we left full and satisfied. Sho is a new chic Korean/Japanese BBQ restaurant that just soft opened without any fanfare. I was lucky enough to eat while it's not too busy as they test things out, as I was told the menu is still evolving. Personally I really enjoyed the wagyu and rib-eye cuts on the grill, along with homemade kimchi and potato salad banchan. The kimchi fried rice, kimchi stew, and japchae are also phenomenal. Looks perfect for small groups or date nights where you can try different steak cuts, either cooked by your server or by your party. I opted to test my server but feel free to do you. Came here for NYE and tried the Australian Wagyu and kalbi. Service was great. I love how there is a front closet to put your coats in so they don't smell like food. They grill for you or you can grill yourself. It's nice to finally have a good Korean bbq place in Naperville! Only suggestion is I wish the kalbi was a little more flavorful. The Australian Wagyu was really good! They ran out of American Wagyu when we went. We will be back! Check this place out! read more

Good place for a weekday or weekend dinner. Good change from the regular - they serve quality food and cook the BBQ for you which is greater than making it yourself. I would only suggest having a wider choice in the banchan and adding the traditional Korean grilled mackerel to complete the menu. Good service and great team!! read more

Our family has had a great experience each time we've been to Sho Kalbi. The place is very new and they're still training their staff and servers, but everyone (including the owners who are there and working on-hand) were incredibly friendly and attentive. They saw my daughter struggling as she was tying to use chopsticks during her meal, and made a point to come over and make rubber-band bracer to make it easier for her. It was really thoughtful and we felt cared for. The restaurant is beautifully well-appointed, and each station was clean and comfortable. The food is excellent! The beef options looked and tasted upscale, amount of servings felt appropriate and fair, definitely felt like a curated experience. The BBQ menu is very focused on the stellar beef selection, so keep this in mind as this may be different at other places. They do not have chicken or pork BBQ options at this time. We all were quite full with some small leftovers to spare. Having a number of appetizer and rice dish options available were great for our kids who sometimes are picky (though both kids enjoyed the salads, vegetables, and meat as well). The Korean Chicken appetizer was delicious and shareable for 2-3 people (but keep that in mind as you might fight over them!). My son's favorite dessert is lava cake. Being able to get that for his birthday dinner made his night and for a great memory. We're definitely going to be back, both for the great food and the experience their enthusiastic staff work hard to provide. read more

As a bit of a food snob, I'm pretty picky, and this Korean BBQ spot delivered. The meat quality was excellent--fresh, well-cut, and full of flavor without being over-seasoned. The banchan was on point, the grills were clean, and the service was attentive without hovering. The pacing made it perfect for a relaxed date night. Happy hour is fantastic which is from 4:00-6:00 PM which is a great deal, great energy, and the wagyu beef is delicious and absolutely a must-order. Everything felt intentional and well done.
