I remember when this location opened around 2016-2017, I was so excited to not have to drive to Tinley Park to eat here. This has always been a super solid location until a year or so ago. They changed chefs or something and the food started tasting different. Not bad necessarily, just not as good as it was. Fast forward to present time, this location has randomly closed again without any notice for 8 months. They finally re-opened this week under a new name "Joy Yuan" but inside is exactly the same. Still extremely stark, sterile, and depressing, but it still has Joy Yee branded plates? It's a little confusing. Half of the boba menu is crossed off now too. As for the food, I'd say it's mostly the same but the won ton soup took a turn for the worse. The broth almost tasted dirty oily and burnt but the wontons themselves were good. Usually the broth is super savory and garlicky, but that was not the case. We also ordered egg rolls and the size and presentation of these has changed at least 3 times since they first opened. They're big again but have that odd burnt/oily flavor to them. The chicken fried rice remains the same, the orange chicken was good as well and we decided to try the mixed mushroom chow fun which everybody enjoyed. I was also happy to see that they had the mango passion fruit freeze (add strawberry popping boba) that remains the same and is delicious. I need to try the traditional milk teas to see if they're still the same too. Service is still the same with a lot of the same staff still working there. It's not good but it's not bad, they're just efficient. This isn't a sit down place where you're catered to if that's what you're looking for. I don't know, I'm torn about the new ownership or whatever they did under the new name change. The food seems the same for the most part but it's also not at the same time. So this may get confusing for anyone looking up reviews of this place, but it's officially named Joy Yuan Noodle. Now, the big sign above the place outside still says Joy Yee...as do the plates, the cups, the employee shirts. The food and drink menu look the same too. Pretty much the only thing that says Joy Yuan is their menu and their website. So I don't know what happened, but it's pretty obvious this used to be a Joy Yee's and some kind of management change happened, but it feels like literally nothing has changed. Which is a good thing! My wife and I used to take Joy Yee's for granted in Chinatown, going only for drinks, but their food is always solid as well. We were going to do takeout, but our kid was hungry so we dined in and got the classic beef cubes in tomato rice and salt and pepper shrimp. Dare I say...the beef cubes were better than what we remember at Joy Yee's? They were still sauced well but also were more tender and less chewy than we remember. The shrimp were large and solid as well, and not too spicy. We had to get drinks of course, and my berry/passion fruit smoothie took me back to many days walking through Chinatown. The prices are still a little higher like everything else in the world, and they could definitely do with some decor. Maybe they had to change it with the change in ownership? Food doesn't taste the same, they've lowered the quality of their ingredients. Worst of all they leave the itemized receipt out of your check and don't mention a 20% service charge which is a tip, but you won't know that because it's only on a itemized receipt that they DONT give you. I'm totally okay with paying 20% in gratuity but you have disclose that when you give me the check so clients are not adding another 20%. That's so deceptive. I had to ask for my itemized receipt and they snatched our closed out check before we could make changes. I've been coming here for years and I'm sad to say that me and my family will not be coming back. Just terrible. When I brought this up to the server all he said was "ok". This restaurant has unfortunately gone downhill. The food quality has noticeably declined--our noodles were hard and rubbery, the tapioca in our drinks was also hard, and the Pad Thai noodles looked and tasted completely different than before. Overall, the food was very disappointing. The service experience made things worse. We were not informed that the restaurant now automatically adds a 20% gratuity to every table. As long-time customers, we were accustomed to gratuity being applied only to large parties, so this came as a surprise. I would not have minded paying it if it had been clearly communicated. What's unacceptable is that we were not provided an itemized receipt explaining this charge. Because of the lack of transparency, I unknowingly left an additional tip on top of the automatic gratuity. This is unfair and misleading. Joyyee used to be my go-to spot for boba about 5-10 ish years ago when it was one of the only boba shops in Naperville. The quality is more or less the same as it was back then and is just generally average. I usually get the taro or caramel milk teas, which you definitely can't go wrong with. One thing I did notice is the prices have increased dramatically (mine was around $7). I'd say it's ok to go here if you happen to be in the area, but so many other places have opened in Naperville at a better price point for the same quality so this wouldn't be my first pick. read more

The food here is pretty mediocre here. It's ok for a fast meal in a pinch but it's not good quality here. Out of all the times I've been here, The service is unprofessional to say the least. Quality- the hou fun was very salty and the vegetables are tough to bite into. The meat was also chewy so it takes a lot of chewing to get through it. The shrimp fried rice is standard....Nothing special. Quantity- an ok amount comes for the price. You will get full for a low cost. Atmosphere- I hate the chairs and small spacing between tables. Not enough personal space or outdoor seating. Service- one time I came here over the weekend to get lunch with a friend and the manager (larger 6'+ asian guy with big belly) would constantly pester us to leave because we overstayed our welcome. His reasoning is because we finished eating and aren't ordering anything else. We were only there for an hour and ordered two dishes and boba. The food/boba was good but the demeanor of the staff ruined our experience. We were asked to leave every 5 minutes after 30 minutes of being there. Next, they declined to give us water and then they thrusted the checks in our face while we were still eating. When we paid, we sat there a bit longer to finish the food and it was then we heard the manager start complaining about us not leaving in another language (cantonese) to the waiters. Because of this poor service, I left no tip for the manager which pissed him off so he forced us out of the restaurant. There was also no line outside so I don't understand what the rush was. We weren't rude or loud at all. We sat at a small table and just chatted while eating food. There were people there that were much louder than us but also understandably paid more. An incredibly good place for strip mall Asian cuisine. It's not quite authentic but it's kind of close enough. Joy Yee Noodle has a few locations, including this one in Naperville. It has many favorites such as the bubble tea and has pretty good food. They have the best prices with the lunch specials. Come in at lunch and save a bit. It's when we came in the last time here. The menu is full of typical Americanized favorites, but don't let it be a turnoff. A lot of great stuff is here. The best items may actually be the teas. I most like the Apple Cooler With Lychee Jelly. It's about $6 for most teas. They also have smoothies if you want something to drink even colder than that. Both of us got the Orange Tofu lunch special the last time here. It's about $10 for a lot. This comes with a few vegetable potstickers and rice. It had a moderate spice to it. This was a nice amount of food for a lunch. Best time is at lunch where you get the best prices for the most amount. It has locations in Chinatown and UIC, which are good too if those are convenient. We came here for dinner one night when we were craving pho. The flavor of the pho was really something. It's seasoned just right. The portion sizes are very large which was really nice. Considering how Joy Yee restaurants have taken over Chicago's Chinatown, I was expecting a lot out of this establishment. The exterior of this location was much more humble than their Chinatown locations, but the boba and food menus were quite extensive. For a place that specializes in boba, their tapioca pearls were over cooked almost to disintegration. The coconut milk tea barely tasted of coconut (to the point that we debated whether or not the order was wrong), but the strawberry lychee smoothie was much better. As for the food, they have a diverse array of offerings that becomes a bit overwhelming and still leaves me craving a greater variety of options (many of them feel like different combos of the same ingredients). To their credit, the beef udon was quite tasty and definitely worth trying, as was the pho. However, much of my experience at Joy Yee simply didn't live up to their famous name. read more

Service is relatively fast, single restroom are a bit of a problem for families with kids, the place is clean overall. Parking is great as well as its location. The most important piece is the taste of the food: ordered tofu pad Thai and orange chicken, very basic menu items and they were above average. We also tried Durian freeze and it does have an onion-typed taste just as we imagined, an acquired taste for me...I'm sure it taste better when fresh and not imported. The one part that surprised us is that we came as a family (2 adults and 2 small children). Only ordered 2 entrees and they charged us the tip as a group. So we ordered and got our smoothies and looked for a table to sit down to finish the drinks. But the wait staff told us no and we had to order food in order to sit by a table, in quite a non-professional and unfriendly tone. Only two tables were dining in at the moment. So they were not busy. All I felt was they didn't want to clean the table because they thought there's possibly no tip. They are always friendly and they try to seat you as quickly as possible. I love the vibes there because it feels like you're basically in one of the Chinatown restaurants it's really authentic. The portion sizes are huge definitely want to share good for at least 4 people. Every time we visit we try a new new flavor boba tea. Joy Yee Noodle is a place that my husband and I frequently visit on Sunday afternoons after church. We love ordering the Beef Cubes over Tomato Rice and several other entrees. The Beef Cubes have always been consistent in smokiness and quality. I've ordered the green curry with chicken (sweet and smooth curry dish), the Thai baked shrimp with rice (tangy friend shrimp with a sweet rice), and the Chinese broccoli regularly (stir fried in garlic). Those dishes are pretty consistent too. We also order smoothies for dessert. Those are pretty good! You can't really go wrong with blended ice, sweetened fruits, and tapioca. My go-tos are Watermelon-Lychee and Avocado-Honeydew. The only gripe about Joy Yee's is that the menu is so extensive, you can get lost in it. My suggestion is try the dishes with the smiley once you know what you like, stick to it! read more

Hmm. I hadn't been here in a long time, so long that they'd changed the whole look of the place. We apparently made a mistake in coming at lunch time on Sunday, as the place was a mob scene, and there was a lot of confusion by the door because a big crowd of kids who'd gotten to-go drinks were still just standing around blocking the way. But eventually we did get seated and were handed the massive menus. I got the shrimp tempura udon, which was plentiful and tasty, and my friend got the keto-friendly chicken lettuce wraps, enough for about three meals. What was problematic was when I ordered a drink from the giant menu of bubble teas. You don't see sesame often and it's my favorite, so I picked that; however it came with absolutely no sweetening. I assume this was an oversight due to how busy the place was, but then it took most if the rest of the meal to get our waiter's attention to address it. They remade it and then it was as if they had dumped a bowl of sugar in it; awful! By then we just wanted to leave because we were done eating, and I didn't have the energy to find a manager to fight over $5, but that was a big waste of money, and since they clearly make a big portion of their business from drinks, I know they could have done this better!! :( Atmosphere is lacking: this place is very loud with people racing everywhere, and like I said, good luck getting your waiter's attention. He was rude to my child I don't think he likes kids and was upset I didn't leave more tip on top of the 18% service fee. First of all they should inform you of the fee and second at least have a good service because this doesn't work. I always get the cubed steak over tomato rice. 1. it usually comes with a fried egg on top...no fried egg. 2. The steak was chewy like gummy bears(still good flavor) and little to no onions. 3. the rice was watery/mushy (unacceptable especially for Asian cuisin). 4. It's been nice to spend time to visit each of these Joy Yee Noodle location throughout the local areas surrounding Illinois. We did t get chance to try out there food although I fee that they could serve it to you if you like. We got 3 drinks which the chain of restaurants is known for. It really wouldn't be fair to evaluate the entire food selection since we got drinks. The location is relatively small as compared to the other location and it looks older as well. I would see the drinks are good enough and not as good as other locations. They really need to step up their game to make better drinks. They should learn from the main Chinatown location on how to make drinks. I really was not pleased with what they gave to us since the people onsite didn't make it taste great. They were more concerned with socializing with each other. I still have them a thumb up since it could have been a bad day and the drinks were just ok. Despite any bad experiences, for their bubble tea, I will be back. I typically venture to Joy Vee whenever I am home, and although it has been a long time since I have eaten their food, their bubble tea is a must. Since they opened, this restaurant has made immense changes to revamp the inside in terms of cleanliness and decoration. It is always packed with people eating in and people waiting at the door for their bubble tea. That's no surprise because their drink menu is the longest and filled with more options than I have ever seen. My personal favorite is the milk tea, and on this occasion, I tried their Matcha Milk Tea. They have a multitude of different options for milk tea and have other fruit smoothies and creations as well. Despite the fact that I have had some unfavorable experiences, the good ones keep me coming back. On one occasion, I really detested the milk tea flavor I ordered; however, instead of making me another drink like other drink places or coffee shops, the employee forced me to pay for another drink. On this adventure to Joy Yee, I specifically requested soy milk as I am lactose intolerant, but after a ​couple of sips, I recognized the drink was much to thick to be a non-dairy product.
