My boyfriend and I stopped by White Duck Taco Shop after working out and ordered a variety of tacos. I had the fish, Bangkok shrimp, and Diablo shrimp tacos, while he tried the pork belly and Thai peanut. The Bangkok shrimp was easily the best of the bunch. Unfortunately, the fish taco completely fell apart as soon as I picked it up because both tortillas crumbled. I asked for replacement tortillas, but it took several minutes just to receive two, and no one offered to remake the taco. Overall, the tacos were flavorful but overpriced for the small portions, and the tortillas were a major disappointment. Atmosphere was bar-esque. The restaurant's biggest strength is its convenient downtown Johnson City location near the bars, shops, and parks, but I don't think the food justifies the price. read more

I was told this place had the "best" tacos. I was in the area so figured what the heck. The girl at the register is a sourpuss and wasn't too cheerful or knows how to smile. On webpage said they have Mexican corn but they do not. They're next to Yeehaw building, but make sure you check the map because it is a lot of one way roads. There is only one way to get in and out and going to the end of the Yeehaw building isn't the correct way I was $16.60 for 3 tacos: chicken blt, lamb gyro and steak cheese. I also got the pot de creme when I was there for about $5. The pot de creme was very good it had some pistachio crunchies on top. Steak one was amazing and would get again. Lamb one tasted like I was just chomping down on a whole garlic, talk about super potent. The BLT one tasted kinda like a corn dog it was definitely something that should be skipped it was not very good. I felt very sick to my stomach after and you know what happens next...... read more

Went back to White Duck in Johnson City while in town for a work trip. The staff were very helpful, willing to check when they didn't know the answer to my questions. As usual, a great place to go gluten free! Be careful and ask if you are celiac/allergic to wheat, though, as cross contamination is possible especially in the fryer! The tacos were pretty good. I've recently moved to the Tri-Cities area and was looking for a spot for lunch. Needless to say I was excited to see there was a White Duck Taco Shop since I always go when in Asheville. Although my GPS couldn't figure out where it was, once I realized it shared the space with Yee Haw, I made it there. My 2 go tos were on the menu - Chicken Tikka Masala and Lamb Gyro. They also had a Shrimp & Grits that I'd never see on the menu in Asheville. Loved all 3. I was thoroughly stuffed but had to try the Shrimp & Grits. Definitely recommend checking it out. Traveling with two Mini Schnauzers and needed dog friendly/outdoor seating. There were three of us. We ordered: BLT Chicken, Thai Peanut Chicken, Bangkok Shrimp, Korean Beef, Steak & Cheese and Queso & Chips. You order at the counter, get your own drinks and they bring the food to your table. The outside patio is very large and there was a wonderful fire pit. Perfect for a January evening in the 50s. Everyone enjoyed their tacos. It's a little hard to find but it's connected to YEE-HAW Brewing Co. which has a large white silo out front. Parking was an issue. We parked at the Pavilion at Founder's Park. It's located behind the restaurant and had ample parking. It was a very ppshort walk to the restaurant and the dogs enjoyed all the smells along the way. We will certainly be back! read more

The menu has a lot of variety and a lot of good potential. The queso was very good but the tacos were lacking. They were very stingy with the sauces that were really key to the whole item to make it something special. If they had more sauce it would have been an excellent experience, instead the food overall was ok. The food was served reasonably quickly too which was nice. It's adjacent to the brewery which means they probably don't have to try that hard to get people to come in and it shows in the final product. Good idea, poor execution. read more

Absolutely incredible tacos! - chicken tikka masala is spicy and delicious - lamb gyro was everything I want in a gyro and more - Bangkok shrimp was a perfect balance of flavor and texture - my husband at the pork belly two days in a row if that says anything - quesadilla was a hit with my son, as was the pretzel and beer cheese Atmosphere was fantastic as well! TL;DR: Highly recommended. Non-traditional take on tacos. Located next to Yee-haw brewery! ***Ambiance*** The space is nice and clean with 7-10 tables. It has a rustic feeling that adds to the overall atmosphere, especially with the wooden tables. Being attached to the Yee-haw brewery allows you to enjoy an excellent beer with your meal. ***Staff*** The staff was friendly and welcoming. You seat yourself at an available table and order food at the counter. They will bring the food to you. ***Drinks*** Since they share the dining hall with the Yee-haw brewery, I didn't check out their beer listing. They do offer margaritas, both regular and special (top-shelf) varieties. My table mates ordered the top-shelf margarita assuming the regular one had essentially no alcohol. Turned out that we were completely wrong. It was the top-shelf that had nonexistence amount of alcohol in it. Just a sweet mix with a placebo-level of tequila. I would recommend trying the beers at Yee-haw instead (Yee-haw is reviewed separately). ***Food*** We ordered two rounds of tacos and each one was very good. The first round was exploratory, while the second round consisted of our favorite picks. These tacos are not traditional, but they are delicious. Out of the eight different tacos I tried, there is not a single one that I wouldn't order again. My personal favorite was the shrimp diablo. ***Overall*** It was a wonderful experience and I highly recommend it for food. For the purist, these are not traditional tacos by any stretch of the imagination. I think that the menu items are called tacos because that it is the closest food item they resemble. We checked out this spot while visiting Asheville, and really enjoyed our visit. We each were starving after a morning hike, and ended up getting four tacos each - including the Jerk chicken, Thai peanut chicken, fish, and Bangkok shrimp. The jerk chicken was the only one we didn't enjoy, the flavors didn't mix well and wasn't our taste. Our favorite was definitely the Bangkok shrimp - spicy with good Asian inspiration, almost went back for more. We also appreciated the space as a nice area to sit outside with our food and beers. There was a nice crowd and young crowd. Great spot while visiting for a long weekend, enjoyed that it was fast casual but with a local feel. read more

Just love this place! This is one of our favorite restaurants in Tri-cities, TN. We had the Shrimp Diablo taco which is my favorite! Also had chicken tikka taco. Wow this place is too good. A lil pricey perhaps for a taco place but nonetheless totally worth it! The Bang bang shrimp is my personal all time favorite. The second would be the Thai peanut. It is very nice that you can interchange any of the meat to your choice of meat, tofu, or even jackfruit! I got the jerk jackfruit taco and it was banging so if you're vegan or vegetarian, I'd recommend switching out the meat in any of the tacos for jackfruit. Literally every bite I had was delicious, and actually the portions were much larger than I expected. The Korean style was excellent, and their house made kimchi was perfect with it! I also tried the duck one, which was melt in your mouth delicious. The flavors were perfect, not too sweet and not too savory. The customer service here is so great too, they really check on you and make sure things are enjoyable, even though there's no server. The ambiance is so fun and "downtown," too! We stopped here on our road trip and the good was very good and tasty. I got the General Tso's chicken as a bowl and was happy they could make that adjustment. Service was good from the person who took my order but I couldn't help but notice all the employees standing around talking and not practicing serve safe procedures which they have multiple certificates framed behind their register. Dirty dining room, sticky tables and floor, food and liquid covering the trash can which unfortunately got on my shirt and all over my hands when I was throwing my trash out, and the bathroom was pretty dark and dirty. Most insane taco shop I have ever seen. This is not your traditional ground beef, pork, steak or chicken taco meat. I had a General Tso taco which was batter fried, small pieces of broccoli and a sweet & sour sauce. My other was a Shrimp Po' Boy taco. Discovered a cozy little downtown spot in Johnson City this evening called White Duck Taco Shop . The atmosphere was perfect, very inviting with cozy positive vibes. I really enjoyed the layout and the decor (I'm a sucker for exposed brick and commercial pipe lighting fixtures). The staff was friendly, welcoming and prompt from start to finish. I ordered a Shrimp Po Boy Taco and a Fish Taco. The Po Boy Shrimp was made with small shrimp that were lightly battered and perfectly fried. The overall taste was good but a bit on the salty side. Topped with lettuce and a spicy sauce that has a kick! I especially loved the freshly made soft tortillas, so good! The Fish taco was made with a nice big single fish filet, perfectly seasoned, also a bit on the salty side, and with a spice that comes with a kick. Topped with crisp shredded slaw and a spicy *slap yo momma* sauce that clears your sinuses while also leaving you with a flavorful party on your palate! We tried to eat here the night before, but there was no parking anywhere and they weren't answering the phones to take an order. We ordered several different tacos to try. We had the duck taco, the Bangkok shrimp, the General Tso's, and the Korean beef. It was all so very good. My favorite was the shrimp. We also had the pot de crème. You can skip that. This is a fun taco place attached to the Johnson City, TN Yee-Haw Brewery location. There is not a lot of organized seating, there are a handful of 'regular' table and chairs by the cash register and drink fountains, but the majority of the space is the large area where the brewery bar is located. There is a massive high-top in the center of the space surrounded by a mixture of sofas and coffee tables. There is also a large bar along the edge of the room too. Various large screens are spaced around the room for sports, etc. and there are a couple of arcade games on either side of the large projector screen at one end of the space. Plenty of natural light and a fair amount of outdoor seating as well. It is not a huge menu, but there are a variety of creative combinations which is a nice change of pace. There is not very much room for alterations however, so if you have allergies or anything keep that in mind when ordering. Everything was high quality and tasty. The menu supposedly changes so I don't know if these tacos are still available, but my group tried the pork-belly bbq tacos, the chicken tikka tacos, and the jerk chicken tacos among others. The only issue was some tacos were over-spiced. I love a good chicken tikka masala, but the depth of flavors weren't there with this, it was just hot. Like burn your lips hot, it didn't even have an identifiable flavor, just heat. The other tacos, bbq based in particular, were very satisfying however. We had an issue with the drink fountain. They had put a diet soda in the regular soda spot, but the diet soda was also a diet soda pack. We have dietary sensitivities to the artificial sweeteners, which also meant the sweet tea was not an option and the regular tea was out. We asked at the register and they said they would have someone change it out in a moment. Then our first tacos arrived, we asked again and they said they would change it. Then we finished our meal a while later and asked if it had ever been changed when we were told, "oh we wouldn't change that, it would waste the pack of diet we mistakenly put it." Which, that's fine, but that means we paid a lot for waters. They refunded all our drinks, but it was a hassle/process neither my party nor the cashier needed to go through if they would have just said that at the beginning. read more

This is one of the top options for a fun casual night out or in our case, Sunday brunch after a walk in founders park where there is a nice whitewater creek flowing thru and under the brewery/ taco shop. Outdoor seating is plentiful by a fire pit which is nice during social distancing. The service has always been stellar--efficient and friendly staff every time I've visited. By now we have tried almost all the favorites. The staff favorite is spot on --the pork belly taco. The gyro taste like a real authentic gyro (minus the pita) with the fixins and prob will be our order from here on out. The rest, korean (ground) beef/Buffalo ckn/ Bangkok shrimp/Thai ckn/Ckn Tikka are good but 3 star good as either the flavors were not balanced or tasted reheated. The chicken dishes all tasted reheated and not freshly cooked, even when we were there on a Sat. The korean beef was so salty (and I normally like a bit of salt in my food) they were difficult to finish and we had them a few different times thinking it might've been just a fluke. I want to love everything here as this place has the best staff and ambience. Hope the chefs or owners read these reviews and tweak their formula as I want to give the food 5 stars as this is in our backyard. Having said that, the shop across the street called Korean Tacos are Amazing but lacking ambience so good to go occasionally w small party, but WDTS is the place to hang out when in downtown JC and we want more restaurants like this one.
