I thought that this was a really disappointing venue for a Rock and Roll Playhouse event. The layout just doesn't work - it's an extremely long and narrow room with a high stage. If it's a sold out / crowded show I can definitely see how this is overwhelming for a small child. If you have a child under 5 I'd say to avoid, especially since they can't really see the stage unless you pick them up. Another huge disappointment was that Taylor Swift was not dressed up. When we saw this show at Starland Ballroom Taylor was in costume. At White Eagle the singer was just wearing a black Rock and Roll Playhouse tee shirt. I think they could've had a lot more fun with this and the kids would've been excited. For a sold out show they also could have also kept both sides of the bars open. Lines were crazy long. And for the kids drink on special they should probably consider offering a lid with the cup. It felt like miss after miss for a 'kid friendly' event, so we probably wouldn't head back here for a Rock and Roll Playhouse, or at least I'd wait until my kids were older. read more

First time visiting to White Eagle Hall for Dave Alvin and The Third Mind last week. Haven't been to Jersey City in a LONG time, my old stomping grounds has changed a lot. Nice venue with friendly staff and good security protocol. Clean hardwood floor and high ceiling made for good acoustics for the band. Bartenders were knowledgeable about the variety of craft beers and an interesting cold brew black coffee for me. Very impressive and I look forward to a return visit. read more

Fantastic music venue in Jersey City Large room with balconies and great sound. Security is a breeze and the bar rings reasonable drinks and beer. This location was a total surprise and I would not hesitate to return. I saw the Gorilla Biscuits there and if there is a criticism they might have oversold the show. The parking situation is ridiculously difficult, tow away zones and 2 hour limit parking makes this a very difficult venue to drive to. There is a church parking lot on Columbus Dr about 3/4 of a mile away that charges $10 to park there on the weekend. read more

What renovations? Signs point upstairs to the restroom. No restroom is up there, but be careful coming back downstairs. There is a weird extra step. I went falling and caught myself against a dilapidated water closet. I'm lucky I didn't sprain my hand right now. It's just in a general pain now as I write this. Bartender was very nice! Security accosted my partner and I - we were the first on line. Utterly ridiculous. Once over with the handheld scanner wasn't enough. Multiple times. Take this out of your pockets. Take that out. More. More. They practically gave my partner a full rectal examination. Every single pocket had to be emptied out. We were separated for what felt like three minutes. It was actually a shock to the system just to come into the venue. Mind you, not a single piece of instruction about what to expect during the hour we stood in queue, telling us how to prepare for entrance. These people treat you savages. Disgusting. I'm not sure how I managed to miss out on visiting WEH for so long. Once I heard Badflower was going to be making an appearance, I had to buy tix. I recommend reserving parking at the mall and walking the 15 minutes to the venue to avoid driving around looking for a spot in JC. I intentionally arrived after the doors opened so I could skip waiting in line. The outside steps are quite tall, so I can only imagine how annoying it would be to wait on them trying to get inside. The inside is a decent size, bathrooms were very clean, but I witnessed a lot of people leaving without washing their hands. Always be mindful of the surfaces you're interacting with. I had plenty of space all night without people constantly being squished against me. I was able to thoroughly enjoy the show without common annoyances that are ever-present at venues in the city. The bar prices were beyond fair and the bartender/other staff I interacted with were awesome. The sound quality was one of the loudest I've heard at any show, ear plugs are an absolute must. read more

Three of us came here to see Yo La Tengo and all of us were impressed with this venue. We were lucky to grab some seats upstairs so we could sit back and enjoy the show. Acoustics were great! They also had a nice bar upstairs and had food items available for purchase. Everyone showed proof of vaccinations in order to gain admission. Saw Teenage Fanclub here. Had a blast. Cool venue with good sound, local brews, open floor and balcony. Only drag was the parking. There is none! We were told there was plenty of street parking but it's ALL resident zone 2-hour parking. Make sure you mapquest some parking lot options before you drive there as the streets are alittle confusing if you've never been there. read more

Came here to see one of my favorite bands, I don't venture into Jersey for just anyone, and I had a great time. The venue is just a quick 15 minute walk from the PATH through a quaint street. You'll be safe walking back solo late. Bouncers and bartenders were incredibly nice. $20 credit card minimum and they have ATM's. They had a food menu surprisingly enough: spring rolls, chicken tenders, personal pizzas, spinach balls (?), and warm chocolate cookies, as well as snacks like chips, chocolate and jerky. I didn't try anything and didn't see any tables, so I'm not sure how you'd juggle that pizza during a show. There was a balcony that I didn't take a look at so maybe that's where you go. The building was opened in 1910 and has some beautiful details, in the center of the ceiling is what looks like stained glass but I don't think it is, I'm not sure what it is. It's recessed into the ceiling and can be lit up in different colors for shows. Moldings line the ceiling and the ladies room has old ornate locks on the doors and old warm charm. The coat check area is especially beautiful. There are alcoves set into the base of the stage that are perfect for chucking a purse or something into so you can dance better. My only complaint is that the sound could have been louder, and I'm not someone who needs the knob on 11. But you could easily hear people talking over the music, clapping, etc. Even as I shouted I tried to be careful I wasn't making someone else miss the actual performance by doing so right in their ear and drowning out the band. And while the crowd wasn't a Jersey stereotype, they did shout way too many unfunny things at the band in-between songs. No one's here for you dude, keep it down. And to the middle aged couple who tried (and failed) to aggressively get between me and my friends at the front of the stage so they could take my spot - I hope you have terrible sex for the rest of your lives. At your age, you should know show etiquette. Upcoming shows included Screaming Females and Budos Band. If the band you want to see can't afford to play NY, but they can play here, this is an easy trip to make to see them, so go! read more

I had a blast at White Eagle Hall and I'm so happy there is an extremely cool venue just around the corner in Jersey City. I went on a Saturday night in April to see the band Russian Circles perform. The sound quality was excellent. I was even standing off to the side, leaning against a wall, and it still sounded awesome. The venue is gorgeous, small, but has a really nice layout. The bathrooms are at the front of the venue right before you enter the concert space. The bartenders were nice, and from what I could tell, they had a really good beer selection. Of course the drinks are a bit pricey, but that's to be expected. Parking was obviously such a hassle. I don't know how long we drove around looking for a spot, but it was a good amount of time. We caught the tail end of the opening band because it took us so long to find something, but we finally did. I think some people made spots up, but it looks like by the end of the night no one got a ticket. I was bummed that the upstairs wasn't open for the show, I would have loved to go up to the balcony, but maybe next time! read more

Finally reviewing this place after being here in November for a Newfound Glory concert. Taking me back to my college days was nostalgic and I was feeling pretty happy walking in here. This venue is an awesome place to rock out at a concert. It is small and intimate which is always great. There were two issues with this venue which one has already been discussed by other Yelpers: the parking.....and the coat check. We had to circle around for a long time before finding parking on the street. We were here on a Tuesday so I can't imagine how much worse parking is on the weekends. The other issue is the coat check. That night it was pouring rain and cold and I wore a jacket which I decided to check. This was a horrible idea. at the end of the night the coat check line was so long it reached the back of the venue. Then after waiting on line for almost 20 minutes you can see why things were so hectic. There were two people working at the coat check and they had lost coats left and right. Two people in front of me were angry because the workers gave away their coats and left cursing and yelling. Then it was mine turn and they spent about ten minutes looking for mine. Good thing they found it because if they didn't I would have raised hell. The numbers they gave to people did not correspond with where they put the coats so it was mayhem. Bottom line:venue is awesome. Parking and coat check are not. You're better off taking an uber and holding onto your coat! read more

came here for the first time in feb 2022, i am so ashamed to admit that! i have always wanted to attend an event here, but never could make it or never found the line up interesting. i found the location stunning, with high ceilings, marble and ornate designs. the sound for the bands were top quality too. there is an upstairs balcony that allows anyone to see the stage from. yes, theres a vip section. upstairs is another bar so keep that in mind when lines are long on the main floor. there are also bathrooms up here. ps, they serve some food up here too. great section off to the side for merch. if youre looking to drive in, good luck because parking is shitty. take the path to grove street and enjoy the 5 min walk to the venue. read more

IT IS VERY RARE to find a venue with the history of Jersey City's White Eagle Hall. It is still more unusual to find a concert hall so beautiful. But a local spot boasting such history and beauty which is as unpretentious and well-managed as The White Eagle is indeed--if not unprecedented in J-City--a most welcome return to some distant glorious past. The New White Eagle books the best rock acts at the best prices in the country (outside of rural Iowa). Cadillac features include sixty foot ceilings, a superb sound system, intense yet understated lighting, cool competent bartenders with a heavy hand and a genuine smile, and perhaps most notable in my last three trips around the country: A FRIENDLY AND PROFESSIONAL DOOR STAFF who understand their patrons and can tell a knife and mace from a bat or a vape... [The (declining) San Francisco Fillmore should send their thugs to intern here. Not kidding. Ugh!] [Probably the only reason Mr. Newcombe hasn't played here yet is that Mr. Vile hasn't told him about it. Yet!] The Eagle's drinks are full-sized and reasonably priced, and both the menu and cocktails (six tasted) in Cellar 35 (downstairs) will satisfy very picky hipsters and limo-driven Sutton Place bon vivants alike. I have met neither the owners nor senior mgmt, but doubtless someone is closely choreographing the best door and floor we have seen in recent years in the Tri-State. And that, as you know my friends, is saying TONS. Anyone (fatigued or amused) by the show scenes in Manhattan or Manhattan B should get on the mailing list of The White Eagle Hall in Jersey City. It's easy to get to (much easier than I thought): PATH from 34th (which the signs on the PATH mysteriously call 33rd street) and .55 miles in a straight line from the train. I went to see Liz Phair for my first time. Drinks cheaper than Brooklyn Steel or any rock music venue in Manhattan. Specialty cocktail for 10 doesn't happen in the city. Quality music venue to rival Music Hall of Williamsburg - and its in Jersey City! Entry to the venue is restricted to a slow moving line up a flight of stairs before a full security patdown and wristband process. The line snaked around the block and took us 20 to 30 minutes to enter the venue. The venue layout offers a merchandise room to the left of the stairs, and two floors of a large concert venue. Ground floor has at least two wide bars on opposing walls that seemed to be relatively well staffed with a good selection of beers and spirits. Wine is a little rough but its a concert venue, not a wine bar. Charging for water, and not offering tap water seemed wrong but we paid for the water anyway after quite a few beers. Perhaps they're relying on that. Sound is excellent, well balanced in most parts of the standing room only main floor. Upstairs, the space along the balconies doesn't allow for more than two people deep, meaning if you do find space up there, people will be constantly brushing past each other. All in all, an excellent addition to the music scene in the greater NYC region, looking forward to seeing/hearing more shows at WEH. read more

When I first visited this place I wasn't expecting a standing only stage. I've never experienced a standing-only venue for a concert. This location is not what I expected either. I was full of surprises that night. However, parking can be tricky especially on a work week. After 6 the meters are free, each time I came here I had no problem finding parking. I might have gotten lucky because it looked like a lot of permit parking near the venue. You had to park a few blocks away, but its totally doable. On the outside it reminded me of a library, but once you step inside its like an underground secret hideaway, which made that place mysterious and perfect for a concert. I loved the layout of the inside of the venue. Once you walk in you had a bar to your right and left. The stairs led to a kitchen( had a roasted chicken sandwich) and balcony sectioned view. It's actually ironic; I came to this same venue for two different concerts in one week. The first one was for a yelp event to see "Misterwives" and a the second concert to see " DJ Sliink, and Dougie F etc". Ticketfly.com provided both tickets. Yelp of course was complimentary and the other concert was $20.00 per person. For the first concert, all the bands that played on stage were really totally great performers. I enjoyed all 3 bands that played that night. You had Vinyl Theatre and Small Pool come out for the opening act followed by the main event - Misterwives. I went to the Early November concert at White Eagle Hall in October 2017. I really enjoyed the venue. The sound quality was very good and the room is very intimate. I can't comment if the concert was over sold or too crowded because I believe there were still tickets available on the day of the show. Driving in from North Jersey was not an issue. We were able to find reasonable $10 parking about 0.5 miles away from the venue. There are several bars and restaurants nearby too. Seemed to be a good area surrounding the venue with a lot of nightlife. I didn't have an issue getting a drink at all and the bar tender severed me in a reasonable amount of time. They have a decent selection of craft beers too. A little pricey for a beer but its expected. I also noticed they have a few food options including chicken skewers and seasonal appetizers. I didn't see anyone getting these so I'm not sure if they stop selling food at a specific time. You are also able to freely travel to the upstairs area. At other venues these areas are reserved for VIPs or people who bought a table package. The crowd wasn't rowdy but security was noticeable but not overly intrusive. Overall, I haven't been to Jersey City much before but I would definitely be keeping an eye out for tickets when another band I like makes a stop at White Eagle Hall! read more

Came here recently for a concert and it was fantastic. The setup itself is nice and efficient with a bar on each side of the room to service multiple people. They had a nice selection of beers and they had food as well which although i did not try, look great. Going upstairs to grab the food kind of sucks but it is what it is. The workers were all very nice. The stage itself was large and i was able to see from anywhere which is most appreciated because I'm short and usually get stuck behind a monster. My only gripe with the place is the parking. Although there is parking all around on local streets i wish they had their own lot or something. JC isn't exactly the safest place to be walking around at 11pm and if you have a nice car i sure wouldn't want to park it on the street. read more

Came for the first time to see Misterwives! The venue is pretty awesome. It's a decent size with two bars and a balcony area upstairs. The light and sound acoustics are fantastic. I love the old stained glass on the ceilings. The staff are really nice although the foyer area could be a bit bigger. I would definitely come back and check out more shows here. read more

Why 5 stars?! To start with, the area in jersey city is where the entertainment is at. The venue its self is badass, came here twice for my cousins birthday. The venue hosted a dance party for WFUV. The staff is great and friendly no complaints. I havent been upstairs since the action is on the dance floor! Came here again to see a great band, second time was amazing. Live music, yes please! Every event and concert I've attended here has blown me away. Crowd is always fun and down to mingle and dance. Acoustics are top notch. This space was a gymnasium and I love that some of the original elements are still in place. Restored gyms make the best concert halls, don't cha think? Bars on both sides and in the back make getting drinks a breeze. Lines are pretty short if you have to wait they move quickly. Lots of great beers, wines and spirits including JC's own Corgi Spirits gins. There's food for the shows but also right next door is Cellar335 so depends on how much time you have to eat. Coat check is near the front door and highly recommend it. There's not a good place for coats as it's pretty much general seating. Bathrooms are also near the entrance. Get tickets ahead of time. It's a fairly small venue so hot shows do sell out ahead of time. Bring your dancing shoes and get ready for a night that is bound to be unforgettable. read more

Gorgeous renovation in this intimate neighborhood concert hall. We were there for a wedding and reception, an interesting choice by the bride and groom but not all that surprising as they are a hella cool alt rocker couple. There were large round tables set up behind a few rows of chairs and stand up cocktail tables in the back end of the room between two open bars. For shows, I imagine the tables would be removed for SRO. The ceremony was held on stage with the bride and groom, front and center. After sharing their lovely vows and being blessed by the celebrant, they walked up the aisle amidst cheers and the attendees streamed up the stairs at the corners to the second floor catwalk for cocktail hour. Watch your step as this is a one by one traverse, unless you're Flat Stanley walking sideways no one is getting by you on this staircase unless you plan to get real close. The acoustics are great for live music and the reception band rocked out to a full dance floor all night until it was time to go. Don't focus just on the band on stage and forget to look up at the ceiling. The stained glass windows there depict famous faces and are simply beautiful. There was a posted list at coat check of alt, indie and punk bands booked for future dates. Kudos to the talent agent for organizing that lineup. We're looking forward to returning to catch a few of those shows. read more

We had our wedding at White Eagle Hall and it was perfect. The inside of the venue is beautiful with stained glass art in the ceiling and the outside has a very urban Jersey City feel. Because it's a concert hall, you will not be able to find a venue that will do a better job with sound and lighting. From start to finish, the General Manager, Justin, and the Production Manager, Matt, were instrumental in bringing our wedding vision to life. They were very accessible and very willing to accommodate whatever we needed (within reason) to put together our Hindu/French wedding - from ceremony to reception. The owner, Ben, was also so very understanding and flexible with the changes we had to make as a result of COVID. We could not have had a better team to pull off one of the biggest events in our lives. read more

Please work on the sound checks and mix. The Future Islands and Gary Numan sound was abysmal. All you could hear upstairs was booming, muddy bass. The vocals and synthesizers (which should have been out front) were inaudible. To add insult to injury, the handicapped lift and other metal structures were all loudly rattling. Not a great experience at what was otherwise an excellent performance. White Eagle Hall was a beautiful renovation and has become a vital part of the NY/NJ music scene. This place is great - reminds me of a smaller terminal 5. I saw the October Misterwives concert here and watched from the balcony - fantastic views from someone who is not the tallest person.
