After hearing so many recommendations, I had to pop by. I had a craving for a nice cold peanut noodle, and that craving was fulfilled to the max. Nice springy egg noodles, reminded me of Japanese cold ramen noodles. It came with crunchy veggies all coated in such a rich but fresh peanut sauce. The Alps has really distinguished itself as slinging the best cocktails in the Heights! I am very happy to live nearby but sad that I don't make it out for cocktails very frequently these days. All of the cocktails I tried were fantastic, and I love how the menu is updated between my visits. This recent visit I tried the eggnog with mezcal (very interesting) and the martini number 4. Came by the Alps for the first time on a weekday. The place was nice. It gave me Brooklyn vibes with semi fancy decor and down to earth bartenders. Its definitely a popular neighborhood spot as the bartenders seemed to know people as they came in. The place has a few bar snacks however they often have local food spots from the neighborhood come and take over their kitchen and sell food. I went during one of those times which gives it a dope spin on the bar! I also tried their black bean hummus thats on their bar menu which was really good! It comes with plantain chips and was a good size for a few people to nibble on. Now their cocktails were pretty amazing. They had a decent selection of spirits to choose from. I had heard amazing things about the Pet Shop bar and had been to a wine tasting hosted by Riverview Wine + Spirits, so I knew that when the knowledgeable team behind these places opened a new venture, The Alps, I would simply love it. Well, I was correct! First of all, the bar was sleek, modern, and hip, but still approachable to neighborhood folks that might want to stop by in casualwear. This was even evidenced by the fact that their beer list included several craft brews...and Miller Lite! The bar was lengthy, but there were several other tables scattered adjacent to it, as well as a cozy lounge in the back that even had a vintage pinball machine. Secondly, the staff was incredibly - friendly, generous, helpful, and passionate about their craft. The cocktail list was sublime, with each beverage sticking to only a handful of ingredients that were all transformed into unusual blends. Their restraint on the components ensured that the drinks were delicious without being confusing or muddled. The menu is not currently posted, but I will comment on my drinks from memory. The first was called a something Grotto, and it tasted like a liquid, cinnamon-y apply pie filling with less sweetness. I adored it, but my next order of the boozy hot chocolate was even better! It had almond notes and was not too sweet, too thick, or too rich; it was perfect. It was also topped with tons of mini-marshmallows. In addition, I sampled the sparkling rose, which was shockingly citrusy. Its hints of grapefruit were a delight. However, I ordered a full glass of the sparkling sauvignon blanc, which I found dry, and good...but not quite as enjoyable as the rose. In addition to all of the drinks, we decided to order a food item. Since we had dinner plans afterwards, we just decided to get something small, which wound up being the Crispy Potatoes, which were smashed fingerlings that were paired with a "creamy mojo sauce". The spicy, vegan mayo was a necessity, as the potatoes were sadly bland on their own. In addition, it appeared that there had been some sort of issue with our order, so we had to remind the bartender that we had still been waiting for the taters after a good 30 minutes. Stopped in for a quick cocktail...always a good sign to see fresh oranges on the bar, which were actually freshly squeezed for cocktails, as well as fresh mint! I was caught off guard by the booze selections, as you won't find your bar staples such as Hendricks, Absolute or Patron. What you WILL find are esoteric spirit brands & wines from local producers...I decided to go with the fourthave blue gin & tonic, which was made well & served in a fab glass, not that clunky, industrial bar ware. The gin was excellent, & I would order again...the only glitches for me was the lack of coasters/napkins, & the color of the straws! (Crazy, right?! But their color reminded me of roaches lmao, & that was a huge turn off)...We had the grilled cheese & crispy potatoes & loved both!
