Multiple guests told us that the food was some of the best they'd ever had at a wedding. Cecile, the events manager, was incredibly responsive and detail-oriented, and she was happy to work with us in accommodating our guests' dietary restrictions and navigating the neighborhood noise restrictions. At the wedding itself, the staff were all warm and helpful and made things run smoothly. When I forgot my bridal bouquet, the staff rescued it and had it ready for my mother to pick up the next day. Our wedding was 75 people, and we had plenty of room to have everyone seated for the ceremony and dinner, plus space for a dance floor. We met with Cecile a few days before to walk through our plan, which she had clearly read through carefully, and she and her team were able to execute everything with no issues. In many ways, she acted like a day-of coordinator for us, which meant another big expense saved. It's a gorgeous space for an event with a great history, the food is delicious, and the staff are fantastic. What more can you want?

For the table, we started with the deviled eggs with smoked paprika and micro chives. You can add lobster, but we had them as they came. They were very plain--nothing bad, but nothing exciting or memorable either. The warm black-eyed pea dip with pimento cheese and crispy red corn tortilla chips was pretty good. We also had the crispy rock shrimp tacos with hot cherry pepper glaze, Southern slaw, and a fried green tomato shell. Those were good enough that I believe we ordered a couple of rounds. The Peri-Peri sticky wings were definitely a favorite for several people at the table. They came with pickled vegetables and what was described as a blue cheese foam. Now, that foam looked more like whipped cream, and I couldn't detect much blue cheese flavor at all! My young niece apparently thought the same thing because she kept sticking her finger in it. We also tried the warm cornbread with crispy fried jalapeño, orange butter, and sorghum syrup, and that was good. For our entrées, a couple of people ordered the salmon and said they enjoyed it. Someone else had the turkey wings and enjoyed those as well. A few of us had the lobster bisque, and THAT I really enjoyed. It was a rainy day, so a warm bowl of lobster bisque was perfect. I ordered the oxtails, and unfortunately, they didn't do much for me. They weren't necessarily bad, but the flavor just didn't stay on my palate. Nothing about them really stood out or made me think, "I need to come back for these." My brother ordered the pan-seared scallops with sweet corn crème brûlée, fried green tomato chips, okra-tomato stew, and secret sauce. The scallops themselves got lost in the dish because the okra-tomato stew completely took over. I would have preferred the scallops to be the star of the plate rather than being overwhelmed by the stew. For dessert, we tried the banana pudding with vanilla wafer dust and banana brûlée. It was definitely a different presentation, and you really needed to mix everything together. It wasn't bad, but the pudding itself didn't taste particularly homemade to me. We also tried the caramelized apple pie spring rolls. I only had a small taste, but those weren't bad either. We had a couple of cocktails as well, and everyone seemed to enjoy their drinks. Our server, Shay, was GREAT very accommodating and attentive to our group. The service and the fact that they opened early for us were definitely appreciated. The restaurant also has a bar and a fun little photo booth where you can pay to have photos taken. One thing to watch out for: the unisex bathroom floor was pretty slippery when we were there, so be careful. Now, PARKING! Give yourself plenty of time. This is Northern Liberties, and parking can be tight. There is some timed street parking and additional parking around Girard Avenue. I got lucky and found a spot, but I would suggest arriving at least 30 to 45 minutes before your reservation so you're not stressed trying to find parking. Another option is the nearby ACME garage I'd go all the way to the upper level or save yourself the headache and Uber. Overall, most of what we tried was good, and we had an enjoyable experience. There just wasn't one particular dish that stayed on my palate and made me feel like I needed to RUN back for it. The candied yam puree, lobster bisque, rock shrimp tacos, sticky wings, and cornbread were probably the standouts from what we tried. The oxtails and deviled eggs were a miss. No flavor. I love the dishes the food was served on. Would I go back? Yes. There are enough things on the menu that I haven't tried, and I'd be willing to return and order something completely different next time.

I paid attention to how the staff would handle the situation. After helping the current customer, the cashier gave him a cup of juice. I didn't see any payment, so I assumed it was offered to him. As he stepped outside, I asked my husband to check if he wanted something to eat. When my husband came back, he told me he had given him money. While that was kind, I honestly would have preferred to get him food myself just to make sure he actually ate. A few minutes later, the man came back in and sat at the counter. At first, I didn't see anyone approach him, but shortly after, the staff brought him a bag with food. I'm not sure if he ordered through the take out window then came in, paid the waiter, or if it was provided to him, but either way, it meant a lot to see. He took his food and left. What stood out most was that the staff didn't ignore him, rush him out, or treat him like he didn't belong. At one point, I even heard a staff member ask if he had received his juice, which made me think this wasn't their first interaction with him. In a world where people are often overlooked or dismissed, it meant a lot to see a business show simple human kindness. Treating people with dignity and empathy shouldn't be rare--but unfortunately, it often is. For that alone, Honey's Sit 'n Eat deserves recognition. Oh... and the food is always great!

I'm not sure why I waited so long to try the chicken at Bud and Marilyn's, but better late than never! They serve a LARGE 1/2 chicken. I started with the thigh. I was smitten by the first bite. I was told the chicken is soaked in a buttermilk brine for 24-48 hours - dipped in a buttermilk dredge - covered with their 'secret recipe' seasoned flour - and fried in a 'pressure fryer' that cooks the chicken in 12 minutes. It was perfectly fried - so crispy - the texture and seasoning of the exterior coating was incredible. The chicken was tender and juicy - the thigh was the juiciest - I didn't get to try the drumstick as I was too full! I had the thigh and 1/2 the breast. The breast is my favorite and I savored each large delicious piece I broke apart. It's important to pick up the chicken and eat it by hand - I did cut mine in half for a picture - but didn't use a fork to eat it - you lose the 'panache'of the meal. I didn't use the hot sauce served with the chicken - I brought my own bottle of honey and poured it over the chicken and biscuits. It was heavenly! Which brings me to the Biscuits! The dish comes with 2 large fluffy buttermilk biscuits - they were golden brown on the outside and tender and fluffy on the inside! They had such a rich, buttery flavor.
