My daughter Becky lives in McCloud..says every restaurant is 5 star! Well this one is..had lunch on Sunday this July..about 1:00p..very busy,lots of seating from booths,tables,& food bar. The staff is friendly and on top of things. A couple was also allowed to bring in their large dog. read more

I love finding a great breakfast spot. This restaurant is located in the Historic Mercantile Building on Main St. in McCloud, right next to the Dinner Train (which I haven't been on yet). They have good coffee & I really enjoyed my black bean huevos rancheros. If you've ever been to the store Restoration Hardware, that's what the interior looks like, except it's the real deal Most tourists seem to eat breakfast in Mt. Shasta, but so far the Cornerstone in Dunsmuir & the White Mountain Cafe' in McCloud are my favorite in this area. read more

After my father (a 20+ year resident of McCloud) passed away recently, my family and I visited McCloud on three back-to-back trips to settle his affairs. During all three trips we stayed at least one night in the McCloud Mercantile Hotel (which is fantastic!), and on all three trips we ate at least a couple times at White Mountain Cafe. This is, without any hyperbole, the best "small town diner" I've ever experienced. Wonderful decor, fast and friendly staff, and amazing food. Again, not trying to hype, but my god they make the best Chicken Fried Steak breakfast I've ever had. The steak is tender, the sausage gravy is rich and spicy, the hashbrowns are crispy and golden, and the biscuits are piping hot and fluffy. It's become a semi-serious joke in my family that I might keep making the ~560 mile round-trip drive to McCloud regularly, just to keep eating this damn breakfast. Really, it's that good. If you're in the Shasta area for any reason, do yourself a favor and grab breakfast here. read more

Just had the best omelette of my life! A Sausage and Bruschetta Omelette with the eggs cooked perfectly with a sausage and bruschetta mixture blending their flavors into a mouth watering sensation. The half order of biscuits and gravy could feed two to three people and was delicious as well, but the bruschetta omelette was the ticket. read more

Great place and delicious breakfast. I was visiting family from the area and was aware they had just reopened. Excellent service, courteous, and impeccably clean. Seasoning on the biscuits and gravy plate was perfect. Very affordable at $10.99 for a plate of two biscuits/gravy(delicious), hash browns, and two eggs cooked to my liking. Five of us ate and each one of us were super pleased. Mom and bother-in-law had Eggs Benedict, niece had pancakes and "House made" sausage patties, and my sister had egg scramble plate. Each one was a full plate of food! Thanks for great service and an excellent home town feel in the community I grew up near! This place has the best breakfasts around! My wife hates eggs but has been converted into an omelette eating machine at this beautiful little diner. It is hard to choose what to get - the pancakes, huevos rancheros, bacon and eggs, the aforementioned omelettes, pigs in blankets... And lunch is just as great. We don't get it as often as we are full from breakfast but the burgers are tasty and the patty melt the best ever. The staff are very friendly and attentive. This place is well worth a detour for the great food and atmosphere. And if they happen to be serving dinner it is worth spending the night in town. read more

New owners...Carlene bakes..oh does she bakemmm..mixed berry pie with fabulous crust...apricot ginger scones...took one home...the fish tacos were amazing...torilla is lightly browned and toasty from the grill...lovely white fish...cabbage shredded. .purple. crunchy..my side was a beef veggie soup. Well folks...it was also yummy...totally satisfied is all I can say...that's all folks..cept. you gotta try this new white mountain...I loved the old one...much to love about the new one!!!! read more

My boyfriend and I drive through town and stopped at this place for breakfast. We ordered the sausage bruschetta and the huevos rancheros and the portions were HUGE and so delicious!! We couldn't stop eating what was in front of us. Pretty decently priced too. We then were on our way out of town and stopped by this place again for lunch a couple of days later. We got the avocado burger and the chicken club sandwich - again, the food was GREAT. I definitely recommend stopping here for breakfast or lunch (I don't think they do dinner), it's so hard to find good food on the road. read more

McCloud is a quaint, historic town of 1100 near Mt Shasta. Definitely limited dining options! However, come to White Mountain for breakfast and you won't be disappointed. They serve healthy portions and are reasonably priced. The staff and locals are incredibly friendly and they will have you feeling like one of the family by the time your meal is over. This is our second time at this restaurant. The first time service was slow but acceptable for a small resort restaurant. This time the service and wait time was so bad that after waiting over an hour for our food, we ask how much longer, and were informed it would be twenty more minutes. We canceled the food and went to Mt Shasta. A restaurant this poorly managed should simply go out of business. I recommend you make the short drive to Mt Shasta. read more

Stopped in for a late Sunday breakfast and the place was packed. The staff was friendly and organised which resulted in quick service. The food was good and the portions were substantial. This restaurant is worth a 10 mile diversion off 1-5 on Route 89 just for breakfast! The food was really excellent, the portions were large, the service was friendly and the even the coffee was worth a second cup. The setting is an historic building, circa 1890's. Step outside, turn left and Mt. Shasta fills the view. A man in an antique store across the street told me people drive up from Redding (60 miles) for Sunday brunch. I can believe it. read more

McCloud is a really cute town with small town food places! This was in their "downtown" with is really their biggest building. We ordered the special of the day which consisted french toast with fresh summer berries and an omelet with country potatoes. After a heated debate of country potatoes and hash browns, I got some coffee, but noticed that there was some lipstick still on my cut :( The waitress was pretty nice about it and got me a new cup. I don't know if coffee is always free, but I wasn't charged for coffee that meal. Omelet: They have defied all laws of gravity and chemistry and made THE FLUFFIEST omelet of all the breakfast places I've been. The berries on the french toast was perfect! The end of summer fruity goodness were a bit on the tart side, but they were seriously fresh. None of that weird syrupy fruit stuff. The decor is on point with the whole rustic feel. Absolutely loved this place! The shasta region does not offer the best food selections , so this place was refreshing and quaint. There are not too many places to eat in McCloud and this place saved our trip. Its affordable, clean, great service, the atmosphere is unique and the food is good as well. I got the veggie omelet the first morning and make your own omelet the second with a good cup of coffee and it was refreshing to eat something descent if your staying in McCloud or around the area. Being a local I brought my parents here for breakfast on Saturday morning. No one at the table ate more than a few bites as this was the nastiest food ever, forgotten items in the order, cold food, overcooked food, just to have the cook who thinks he is a Chef, come out and tell the table that he is sorry and could re-make the food and could not give a discount. If it were one meal maybe but all 5 of us did not eat. Worst food ever wouldn't recommend to anybody, not even homeless for free food. Rating would be 0 stars read more

Aubrey was charming! The food was good and generous! We got the chicken friend steak, and I thought it was one of the best I'd ever had. The restaurant is cute, and the town is historic. Friendly staff, light-filled clean restaurant, and wonderful food! I had the Rustic sandwich (sweet, tender grilled ham and cheese with pesto) on house-made focaccia with garlic fries. Oh man, what a delicious sandwich. Hubby had the pastrami & cheese - tender, moist, flavorful pastrami - next time he's trying it on the focaccia. We've been going here for several years, usually for breakfast when heading home from a camp trip, but this is the first time we've been here with the new owners. Our only concern was that it seemed to take a while to get the food out, but it was hot off the grill, and for sure - we'll be back! read more

My perfect breakfast was anything but perfect. Everything took at least 45 minuets to come out, and some of our order was actually wrong. I didn't even get my french toast that came with my "perfect breakfast" until I was waiting for my ride outside of the restaurant (which was over an hour after I ordered it). I was a little frustrated and I ended up throwing it away. On a positive note the food was actually pretty good tho; however, the service was very disappointing. read more
