I can't stand the day after Valentine's Day on Yelp. So many restaurants take too many reservations and overextend themselves and service and food quality slips and so many people put such unrealistic expectations on one meal on one of the busiest restaurant night of the year. You can be five stars all year round, but make one little mistake on Valentine's Day and the slew of one star reviews come out. Now that I'm done with my little rant, I have to give props to White Mountain Cider for a great Valentine's Day meal. I usually avoid dining out on Valentine's Day for all of the reasons listed above, but when you're on vacation it's a little tough to avoid. In addition to their regular menu, they had a bunch of specials. We started with the cauliflower gratin and the polenta fries. Both were great and I would recommend them. My husband had the cod and I had the scallops. Again, both were delicious. We got one of the dessert specials to go and thoroughly enjoyed that also. Yes, the prices are higher than everywhere else in the area, but the quality and service is there as well. I'll be back and you should give it a try too! read more

Came here for dinner two nights in a row. The smoked trout salad was the highlight of both nights. Had a burger, cooked to the exact temperature I requested and arrived with delicious fires and mushrooms. The coriander chutney was interesting. From the cozy fireplace and great drinks to an eclectic and yummy menu this place checks all the boxes. Our waiter was fantastic and accommodating . The dates stuffed with bacon and the potato and fennel soup so savory and unique. The charcuterie board did not disappoint and the signature drinks were expertly made. I LOVED White Mountain Cider Co. Maybe it was the fall crisp air, maybe is was the beauty overload with the leaves, or maybe I was just super hungry, but everything was working that night. My husband and I were in the White Mountains for a fall getaway weekend. We chose WMCC as our 'nicer' dinner out. First of all, the place is adorable, warm, cozy and perfect for date. We were sat at a table for 2 and our very friendly server promptly arrived with water and our drink orders. FYI...they have a very nice wine selection. I started with a 1/2 Cider Mill salad (their house salad) and then had the Porcini Dusted Chicken and Pasta. YUM! Everything was fantastic. I loved the addition of apples and pecans to their salad. And the pasta was delicious. Perfectly cooked chicken and mushrooms complimented with a flavorful cream sauce. We ended the evening with the Warm Apple Cider Donuts with vanilla ice cream and caramel sauce. This was the only slight let down of the evening because the donuts were cold and a little hard. It didn't take too much away from the overall taste but because everything else completely knocked it out of the park, we expected more from this. I would definitely come back to WMCC and probably will at some point. Definitely book a reservation because they fill up quick! read more

I really like the location and feel of this place as the vibe and atmosphere is very mountain and has an entire experience behind it. The food was great as everything from the salads, to the appetizers, to the entrees, to the desserts were tasty and memorable as each bite got better and better. The staff here was great and extremely friendly as they took care of everything for you and made you feel welcome and at home throughout the meal and were very responsive and helpful. Calamari has a unique twist with fire roasted cherry tomatoes that were fantastic. Crab cakes also had a unique element that added texture. Entrees were delicious - I had the shrimp and scallops which were cooked perfectly. Husband had a pork chop special that was awesome. Trust the reviews guys. If you're up in the area and looking for a nice dinner, this is top game in town. I've had my share of good food over the years. While this place is not fancy, there's no expensive decor, there's no foam anything, there's no stuff you can't pronounce. For the simplicity, it was one of the best meals I've had recently. It's comfort food, for me at least, without everything fried. Both the charcuterie board and the cider mill salad were solid starts to the meal. Their special apple cider vinagrette was truly the bomb. I can eat salad every day if I had a gallon of this stuff. My husband had a pasta dish special that he really enjoyed. I always get the duck when available (to varying degrees of satisfaction). This one was cooked perfectly, fat rendered but still medium rare in the middle. Perfection. Ben, the waiter made the night 5 stars. Food is amazing, very rich, very creative, heavy on the meat. The setting is cozy, very warm (too hot for our comfort) with roaring fire and mostly dim lights. We had a blazing spotlight over our heads that brought on a slight headache. To the food, the bread, oh dear GOD the bread. It is chewy with a hard crust and a ramekin of unsalted butter came that I could slather all over my slices..CARB heaven. LOVE the wine list....love the house made potato chips with the dill horseradish sauce. I wasn't feeling too well and our res was rather late, so I choise two apps vs an entree. I had a lovely roasted beet salad with pistachio, goat cheese and grilled radicchio. I then ordered crispy crab cakes. This is where it got interesting. I am half Armenian and we use shredded phyllo dough (Kadayif) a lot. A very rich dollop of crab mixture was rolled in this dough and baked. The exterior of this restaurant doesn't look very inviting, but wow, you step into a fine dining establishment inside. There is a wide bar backed by a mirror for those looking to enjoy a nice cocktail, a large old hearth for those cold winter nights, and limited seating, so make reservations. We went on a Monday night and this place was still packed. It's rustic farmhouse decor inside, but then all the tables are custom made of thick granite with a live edge. What a neat look. There's no kids menu but we felt that kids were welcome since they still had kids cups. We were invited to order for our 2 year old off of the casual fare menu which included a parmesan crust mac and cheese for $12. It was a huge portion and came with the vegetable of the day on the side. The beer and wine selection was decent but the cocktails were excellent. I tried the wisdoms hue, which was a dry vodka cocktail with hints of grapefruit, rosemary, and sage. It was this gorgeous periwinkle color. So delicious I had to have 2. The food doesn't come out immediately so you know the dishes are carefully prepared. We snacked on homemade harvest style bread with warmed butter. We had fried calamari for an appetizer, which was served with roasted corn and cherry tomatoes that themselves were bursting with flavor. We ordered the chilled cucumber soup special, which was described as cucumber, coconut milk, and basil. It was a little bit of a surprise when it came out very, very spicy. Now, I love some heat in my food as do other members of my party, but we all agree it was up there. Not to mention that it wasn't part of the description or I might have passed. We didn't finish the soups. The waitress inquired with the chef who then revealed that there was just "a little jalapeno." Well, it was more than a little, and that would have been nice to know. At $9 per soup, no effort was made to make amends for this snafu. For entrees, we ordered shrimp and scallops, the pork tenderloin, the duck breast, and a shrimp special served with homemade udon in a Thai curry sauce of coconut milk, yellow curry, and lemongrass. All entrees looked and tasted outstanding. The comments were that the pork tenderloin, cooked medium, tasted juicy like a steak. The shrimp special flavor was right on par with the best Thai restaurants. The shrimp and scallops were perfectly cooked and tender, served with a beurre blanc that was perfectly executed. The only dish that missed the mark was the duck. I ordered my duck medium rare, which is what I was told how the chef recommends it. As the waitress presented the dish, she said, "Now, that looks a little overcooked, so let me know if that isn't to your liking." Well, there is the second understatement of the evening. The duck was very small and was well done and tough to chew. She wasn't surprised that I sent it back. I have to ask that if the server could even tell a dish is not up to par, how can they not be embarrassed to serve this out of their kitchen? Are they banking on some customers paying $30+ for an entree and not complaining? Save yourselves the customer angst next time and just resolve to serve quality over quantity please. Well, at least the second try for the duck breast was delicious, crispy five spiced skin with tender and medium rare meat, and a much more reasonable sized breast. It was served over a soba noodle and arugula salad that had a bright citrusy dressing. However, no effort was made here, and no apology either. I think overall, this place has the best food and drink in town. However, they are also one of the most expensive, rounding out at close to $150 per couple for dinner. They also miss the mark "a little" with their service, serving specials with inaccurate descriptions and overcooked duck breast knowing I would send it back. There is no kids menu despite family attractions being the main draw to town during the summertime, and this restaurant is 4 minutes from Story Land. It is worth a visit to try, taking in their service with a grain of salt. read more

One of the best meals of our 12-day tour of New England. Great ambiance, tables well separated, friendly and efficient service, and excellent food. My wife raved over her Porcini Dusted Chicken (great mushroom flavor), and my Pan Roasted Duck Breast came with a very unique plum sauce and Asian sesame noodle salad that was unlike anything I'd ever seen paired with duck. We ordered the potato chips as appetizer with the 3-sauce tasting sample. Our favourite was the curry sauce - however we *really* would have loved to have the option to have a half order as there are far too many chips. I would say 4-5 potatoes are shaved up to make these. My wife ordered the chicken, while I went for the steak. I found the steak to be extremely salty. My wife loved her order of chicken. For dessert - there is only one thing to order, their apple cider doughnuts. Very good. A plus is a selection of great local beers at cheap prices. read more

The food is good! The atmosphere is rustic with an overall warm cozy feeling. Bar is too small with people actually booking a time to sit and eat. This is unlike most restaurants which are first come first served. We have been in three times and each has been a little off--long wait time, weird entree choices, a seemingly "stoned" waiter... Strike 2 Bad food + expensive prices = Strike 3 I did, however, get a chance to try the apple cider donut dessert with ice-cream and that was delectable! We visited with a small group of friends and loved the whole shebang! Good beer, if a little too cold...well I'm British, great burgers, I had the fish one and great staff. I did get the home made crisps as I'd call them....chips are what eat with fish and vinegar....and I thought they were excellent but I didn't get the smothering sauces. They seemed to me to screw up the simple fresh taste...but it's horses for courses. Unfortunately, in the time of Covid I have tried twice to order take out and haven't been able to. Their website states they offer take out but it may be limited. Last month I tried but was told they weren't offering take out that night. This time they said they may be able to do a take out order in a half hour. We decided to order from elsewhere. Delicious! I made a reservation online and we were seated immediately upon entering. They do a great job keeping the tables spaced apart and the food was deeeeeeeeeeeelicious. Im giving it four stars because the hostess was a bit rude to everyone and kept yelling at everybody to wait outside. She told people she would come out and get their names and in the meantime additional people were getting in line and getting ahead of the people that had already been there and told to get out of the building. You have to stand in a long line to give your name and then told to wait in your car with the window down so you can hear your name when they call it over a bull horn. Really big let down on this year's venture back to WMC. Food portions were significantly smaller than past visits, particularly the charcuterie which was easily 1/3 smaller (and considerably not as good) as it was 6 months prior. As food bloggers, we can whip out our feed of venues and easily compare portion sizes and options and this was unquestionable. The truffle fries which we had told thousands of our followers about were 1/2 the portion they were in July. And the presentation was even more abysmal. It seems like this location got the high reviews it was looking for and starting cutting corners with everything thereafter. Fortunately, we didn't have the worst experience, as the couple that sat immediately after us was never waited on in the 30 minutes they were there. We felt terrible for them as our server (who was also theirs) was blatantly ignoring their table until the young woman stormed out in a (justified) rage. WMC needs to get things together ASAP if they want to stay atop the N. Conway best option list... Especially when Oxford House Inn is just a short ride down the road. read more
