He wanted his baths afternoons and the CNA's that came were so rude that one day he cried. i won't ever forget that horrible day when he wept thinking he was a burden. I made sure that never happened again and spoke with the nurse and it was only because veronica (a caring CNA) came out and helped me/him and became like family that I was relieved. I would not recommend this place to anyone, please don't be in the business of caring for terminally Ill patients if you hire people who don't care. It is more than just money. Other than Veronia and Olu, finally working with us, I would not recommend anyone there.

To begin, their intake nurses are rough, belligerent and detached. The lady we got could care less about my mother, she just wanted to do the minimum and get out. Not a single commitment was upheld, not one. We called for support and help four times in the first week and the average time to hear back from someone was two hours, then another two hours for a nurse to arrive. So if you have an emergency, just call the ambulance and have the hospital take care of it, it's faster, and your loved one will suffer less. Now, as a result of me firing them, they became hostile, threatened to make me pay for equipment they left behind and failed to retrieve. They never took into consideration that my mom had died and their employees, having missed the appointment to pick up the equipment, lied and said a dead woman was preventing them from getting it. We choose to go with another company who was hands down better suited for caring for end of life patients. Houston Hospice is a money game, you are a dollar sign, if you are cool with that, then use them.

When my mother was discharged home, we were told her equipment would be delivered the day before discharge. That did not happen. We were also told a hospice nurse would be at the house waiting to assess her when she arrived home. That also did not happen. I had to call multiple times just to find out where the equipment was and when a nurse would arrive. We then learned she had not even been fully admitted yet. It took several days to sort everything out during a very stressful time. One nurse who came out did not appear to know how to use the oxygen equipment. A week into hospice care, we still had not seen a nurse aide and again had to call to ask what was going on. The organization has felt extremely disorganized from the start. Communication between admissions and the clinical team does not appear coordinated, and the promises made to our family were not followed through. Most concerning, the nurse assigned to care for my dying parent has spent significant time on her phone during visits rather than focused on patient care. This has been incredibly disappointing during one of the hardest times for our family. Families considering hospice should ask detailed questions and verify exactly what services will actually be provided and when.

They'll tell you that they have quick response times for their caretakers to respond to a page but 30+ minutes is not quick at all! There was even a time where the night caretakers turned off the phone that alerted them to resident's pages. There were several instances where they messed up my mother's medication and for someone with her medical history, missing these medications could've caused some major medical emergencies. My mother was constantly cleaned incorrectly. NO ONE should be cleaned so horribly wrong that feces is dried and caked up on their pubic hair. This was an ongoing issue not something that happened one time. Unfortunately my father had to go to the ER several times. I would always call the front desk and inform them what the issue was with my father and ask them to call an ambulance. One time I called back 20 minutes later to make sure my dad was headed to the hospital.... Guess what, they never called an ambulance! Thank goodness my dad wasn't having a heartache! The management there is incompetent of giving you answers to questions and problems that are going on in the facility they run! No one takes responsibility for their or their staffs screw ups! They charge an arm and a leg for care that is horrible. I don't know how anyone can be ok with treating elderly people like this! All this happened with the entire facility knowing that we were a very hands on and involved family. I can only imagine how the elderly residents, that do not have someone advocating for them, are treated. Stay far away from this place. You do not want your loved staying here!

My mom is still…read morehere but I have decided to take a pause and let others know about our experience at Kindred Hospital Sugar Land so far. A special thank you to the administration team who are always prompt at addressing any questions or concerns we have as a family. The COO-Ms. Hala, patient rep-Ms. Marie, the director of case manager-Mr. Faisal, Radiology Manager-Mr. Doshi and several others are the dedicated Kindred Leadership Team. At Kindred, each management leader have been assigned certain amount of patients to follow up and make sure that they are receiving the appropriate care. My mom has been assigned to Mr. Doshi. He has been daily visiting us to make sure if we all are doing well. He has been bringing awesome chai for my mom and tasty vegetarian Indian breakfast to make her feel at home. Ms. Marie, the patient rep knows my whole family with our first names. She indeed is an excellent patient advocate and justifies her job title. She visits my mother regularly and is always in constant communication with us. Ms. Marie goes above and beyond in her commitment and helps us in any big or small issues. As an administrative leader, Ms. Hala has several issues to deal with but she has been so much supportive of her patients and families. She values different cultures and their family dynamics and expectations. She helped my family to accommodate some of our needs regarding my mom's care. The front receptionists and the security officers are very kind and welcoming. The clinical staff (nurses, nurse assistants, PTs, OTs, Respiratory Therapists, Speech therapist, wound care team, and others) are genuinely affectionate with a focus to provide excellent care for my mom, keenly aimed at ensuring happiness through comfort and security. Nursing staff has been keeping my mom comfortable and clean; always remembering that she is a human being, treating her gently and respectfully. My mother had several bedsores and rash from the other hospital but I saw them healed here. There are several staff members that I can name to offer my gratitude and at the same time, I know I will miss many. Hopefully, in my final review, I will name them all. But for now, I want to offer my appreciation to Jancy, Kim, Digna, Titi, Crystal, Mary, Katie, Kate, Mimi, Sephora, Tess, Salvador, Blessing, Natalie, Tiffany, Sammy, Donna, and so many others. Also, I am thankful to the housekeeping and cafeteria for giving awesome service. The physicians who have their privileges here are committed and knowledgeable. They also show up on weekends! Some of the physicians that we are blessed with are Dr. Ajay Bhora (Internal Medicine), Dr. Soni (Nephrologist), Dr. Desai (Pulmonologist), Dr. Maredia (Internal Medicine), Dr. Chan cardiologist, and several others! Finally, at this challenging time of COVID, where we struggle to visit our loved ones at hospitals, we as family can meet our mom every day. One designated person can stay with her from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm. In addition to that rest of the family can see her through the beautiful windows in my mom's room. Meeting the family daily itself is therapeutic for my mom and blessing for us. Leaving our old loving mother in this pandemic time at a hospital was not easy at all. But Kindred's team have soothed my mom, whole extended family, and myself as true family. Currently, my mom is transferred to Kindred's Acute Rehab Unit (ARU). I will post my final review after we discharge from the ARU and will be ready to move forward. I just want to also add that the facility is clean, comforting, and most of the rooms are spacious. I hope my review will help some families who might be in a dilemma whether to admit their loved ones at Kindred Hospital Sugar Land. Hands down to the Kindred Team for providing excellent treatment! I am genuinely thankful to Kindred Team of Sugar Land. Sincere regards, Avani K. Thakkar
