Came here for dessert since the restaurant I went to for dinner didn't have any dessert offerings. It was a Saturday night but I was by myself so I was sat right away. I had checked out the menu online so knew what I wanted right away. A waitress came and sat a water down as soon as I was seated which was nice. However it was a few minutes before I had my order taken. I ordered the Be There or Be Square dessert and just caught up on some emails while waiting. It took about 30 minutes to get my brownie and ice cream. I saw 2 separate parties of 4 order after me yet get their desserts before me. The actual dessert was very good. Warm gooey brownie and hazelnut ice cream. I mean how can you mess that up? Definitely something that is meant more of a nightcap kind of thing and not post meal dessert as the portion was quite large and very hard to finish. I had a 4 hour drive back to Ohio or else I'd have taken it to go. As others mentioned it would be nice if they offered half size portions for those who can't eat as much or not as hungry. I thought I smelled a lot of cocoa when it was first set down, but the flavor was bland. Next time I'd like to try the chocolate cake. My kids and I love it here. Every time we go and eat it needs to be the "dessert place." We always get a Belgian waffle ice cream which is enough for 3 of us. Out favorites are just vanilla ice cream with fresh strawberries and bananas or the peanut butter kid. They participated in restaurant week last year so keep your eyes open for that deal. I would probably give this a 3.5 rating, but I am rounding up because I like the food and decor so much I just deal with lackluster service. Waffles are HUGE. They are definitely meant to be shared, and at ~$14 each its easier on the wallet (and waistline) that way. Last time I was here we waited a good 10 minutes before the waitress even came over to acknowledge us. There were only two tables occupied in the whole restaurant, so it wasnt because she was too busy. We just watched her chat with the other girl behind the counter for the most of the time. But our orders, once we were finally able to put them in, did come out promptly and at the same time. I can buy Perry's at the grocery store and I hate when people say a place has great ice cream and it's Perry's. Perry's is ok, but not special. I digress, back to homemade. That being said, its a beautiful place with a great selection of sweets. That's likely why others might rate this place higher. Just understand this is less an ice cream bar or sweets shop, but more a nice restaurant that only serves desserts! Its a sit down menu service which is why again the prices are higher than I'd be used to for a dessert. I've been here twice now and everything I've tried is spot on. If you like sweets, can't go wrong here...just be ready for the bill ;) The saving grace is the portion is large enough for 2 or maybe even 3 to share. OMG! So they finally built a heaven on earth. This place is fantastic and the perfect night (or day) cap. Sooo many options to choose from, but I decided to do the "build your own", with a waffle, vanilla ice cream and a cinnamon strudel with caramel sauce. The waffle was phenomenal! You are seated and given waters and menus. The prices are up there but the portions are decent and it's all done up to the nines. I've had my eye on this sweet spot for awhile, and was finally able to stop in last night to spend some time with my parents. What an absolute treat! So if you and other members of your group can't decide on dessert, they've got you covered. My mom and I shared a crepe that came topped with vanilla ice cream, brownies, and chocolate sauce. Some might say I have a huge sweet tooth and those people would be right. On a particular night of little self control, I decided to sate my confectionary canines at Sweet Life Dessert Experience. I first learned of Sweet Life by searching for a gluten free dessert option for a friend. I later learned they also offer a dairy free vanilla! The atmosphere here is great minus the spooky trees on the back wall. It never fails put me in the dessert consuming mood. Sweet Life definitely understands the music volume balance where it's loud enough for you to do your happy dance as your dessert arrives, but not so loud that you're shouting at your friends at the table. Service has always been exceptional. Friendly staff who are quick with drinks, refills, and even the occasional utensil that I've definitely never dropped... Like most of my trips here, I ordered the Good Company crepe. Nutella? Strawberries? Bananas? More Nutella? Count me in. Sweet Life consistently produces delicious crepes that are by far my favorite crepes in Buffalo. They're thin but still firm, offering a pleasant mouthfeel. The portion is intimidatingly large, but I always find myself scraping the last bits of Nutella off of the empty plate. I love dessert and have a pretty hearty appetite, but if I could make only one suggestion to Sweet Life, it would be to decrease their portion sizes and their prices. Okay, that's two suggestions. For other Yelpers, I would strongly recommend sharing desserts. Raspberry and chocolate is one of my favorite flavor combos, so I tried The Berry Awakens crepe, which was a crepe with raspberry ice cream, brownie pieces, chocolate pieces, nuts and dark chocolate sauce. It was delicious, but massive, so I only ate about half, and since the dessert was largely ice cream, I couldn't take it with me. My husband's Apple-Y Ever After, apple pie with vanilla ice cream and caramel sauce, was more reasonably portioned, but would have been fine with half the amount of ice cream. If you're somewhat lactose intolerant like me, I also advise taking Lactaid if you get one of the desserts with ice cream, because I ended up becoming somewhat ill later, even though I only ate about half my dessert. But I blame myself for not stopping earlier, and not Sweet Life. Other than the high prices and absurdly large portions, the other thing I didn't love was the service. Our waitress was never rude, and technically did and said all the right things including checking in on us mid-way, but she and the other employee both acted like they didn't want to be there. I get that working on the weekend can be a drag, but the prevailing glum attitude put a damper on the experience, even if the dining room and the desserts look lovely. read more
