A family member recommended we try this place near them and we were very pleasantly surprised ... as we've never had Tibetan food before. It reminded us of other kinds of Asian food, but slightly different. We started with the tasty Combo Momo (chicken/beef/veggie dumplings) ... which could be either steamed, fried or the khotrak (pan fried) that we picked. We then decided to share the (nice) Whole Fried Fish (Branzino) with (underwhelming) special sauce, (super) Crispy Pork Ribs, and (tasty) Chicken Curry along with a side of their Steamed Bun for dipping. Service was a bit slow, but the atmosphere was very mice. Although a tad pricy for what you got, the food was good except for the (hot) Butter Tea ... which was just a bit too salty/savory for any of our tastes.

This place in Roxborough wasn't as good as I remember it previously. It is one of the only Tibetan restaurants I am aware of in Philly. Honestly, it is still one of the best Tibetan restaurants in the city (although I haven't tried much Tibetan food previously). When we came in, the shop was pretty empty. It was Halloween so it is possible that a lot of people weren't able to come in. I ordered the chicken chili momo and Tibetan style chicken curry. The chili momo was pretty good looking dumplings. I really found the inside of the chicken dumplings very interesting. It tasted like a chicken salad in the center. I didn't think the spiciness of this dish really added to the flavor. I did like the burn of this dish. With the Tibetan curry, we also ordered the Ting mo-Tibetan steam bun. The curry also had rice that came with it.

Such an amazing find near the Wissahickon to stop in for a bite after a long hike. I hadn't tried Tibetan food before, but am an instant fan. The food is light and flavorful, similar to many Asian dishes I've had before and then not at the same time. The lemonade was delicious and refreshing. Every dish I've tried from the mung bean noodles to the dried tofu was amazing. It's a casual restaurant that many locals come to because there's no other place like it.

The mono combo and chicken shatrak were both soo delicious and packed with flavor! I didn't love the dried tofu, felt like it lacked flavor. But over it was a great meal and I'd definitely go back

Delicious Tibetan food! Fair prices and good at accommodating dietary restrictions. I had a wonderful soup with hand pulled noodles that tasted super fresh and nourishing. Came with a celiac friend and they are great at taking care of gluten free needs. Service was friendly and there was plenty of space inside. Recommend!

Entirely too loud. My phone showed it at as much as 91 dB and that's the same as a lawnmower. They could use some hangings or tapestries to cut the reflection sound. The menu is very interesting. It is BYOB. We tried the butter tea and am happy to have tried it, but won't be ordering it again. Ordered the Tibetan barley soup Tsamthuk, it was tasty. The menu picture shows more stuff in the soup than what we received. But we finished the bowl. Take care ordering the special momos as the Himalayan is spicy the firecracker is a bit hotter and the chili is extra hot. But really not that spicy. I had the Shatrak because the name sounded like an ork. It was very good. My sister ordered the Thenthuk hand made noodle soup and said she enjoyed it.

Loved white yak. Did take out but would like to dine in soon. Flavor was unreal , really enjoyed it.

Finally got here and would say overall it's a 4.5. Staff were lovely and the food was delicious. We started with veggie Himalayan momos- the sauce was the perfect amount of heat. I had the gha- amazing eggplant in a unique sauce.Hubby had chicken shatrak- it was also good but he preferred my eggplant. Dining room was full and quite loud, but hard to be annoyed by a room full of happy diners.

The White Yak is the best restaurant in the Roxborough area. It is consistently delicious with friendly service. I truly believe momos could achieve world peace. As a guide, I recommend starting with the momos. The combo plate is a great way to try different proteins. Next, the thentuk with chicken js a MUST. It's essentially chicken noodle soup, but the depth of flavor could warm the coldest of souls. I highly recommended the curry (with the turmeric steamed buns, duh) and the eggplant. Truly you cannot go wrong with anything!

I've been visiting White Yak since 2019 and still can't get enough of their food. I think my obsession with White Yak has grown since I started working remotely this year. I have been grabbing my lunch at least once a week, sometimes twice . At this point I've tried pretty much everything on the menu but the dishes I got last week was my favorite combo. I got their La Ping, which is the mung bean jelly noodles with house spicy sauce. Similar taste can be found in their noodle salad, which is also very tasty. Sha Palau patties were still crispy after I came home and their chili dipping sauce is full of flavors. Next, two of my go to dishes I always get are their crispy pork ribs. It looks simple but once you take a bite, you'll understand why I always get the ribs, and why I sometimes order two of these. Last but not least, if you like spicy chili sauce, definitely get the chili momo. Everything is made fresh, and you can tell from their chewy momo skin. Although I get a lot more takeouts from white yak now, the restaurant establishment has a great ambiance and even better, it's BYOB. The staff and owners are very nice and sometime you'll find the owner cooking in the kitchen, checking in on the customers, or working the cash register. It's definitely worth a visit and you'll understand why I can't get enough of White Yak.

Finally got some friends to try this restaurant that has been on my list to try for years! Most hear Tibetan food and go huh? It's in a cute area, never been in roxborough before. Street Parking was easy to find and free after 6pm. Restaurant is cute and was quite busy on a random Wednesday night! Service was warm and friendly. Servers had great recommendations for us and we ordered so much food for 3 girls lol. It's a beautiful area, great experience, affordable prices and BYOB. My faves were the lentil soup and the firecracker momos!

So incredibly delicious. I wanted to try butter tea as it said it was traditional drink. Very much tasted like butter without too much extra sweet stuff so be prepared. I ate before I came so just got an order of dumplings and I still didn't finish them all. Great service and well lit dining area with lots of people.

    Beef Thenthuk and Chili Chicken
    Kenneth M.

Decent food and the staff were kind. Food was decent but I was not crazy about it. The chili chicken tasted pretty much like ketchup with a bit of spice. The price was a bit expensive. $15 for 8 momos... The interior and bathroom were clean. Overall, it was a pleasant experience and we had a good time there.

Plus hearing some people say the food had become inconsistent made me hesitate. But reading up on it today and learning about the new owner, it was time to see if they could win me back. They have. Compared to what I used to get here on the buffet, the tandoori chicken now seems to have more flavor. More of it is definitely hotter spice, but I did notice a fruity tang as well. I'm not complaining. I used to eat the tandoori chicken here regularly and I consider this upgraded. The vegetable pakora stood out. That dish definitely improved. It had a great crispiness and robust seasoning without being too overpowering. That got a second helping. I used to eat the pakora here all the time and I'd pick this over what I used to get. The paneer makhani tasted more like a korma sauce to me. It was more cream-based than tomato. I'm good with that because I love korma. You may judge accordingly. The chicken tikka masala was a little more basic to me. But it's a basic dish in general. Nothing really wrong with it, but it wouldn't be memorable to experienced Indian food lovers. The mango lassi used to be a little thin and more sweet than fruity. Now it's thicker and more of a mango taste. Upgrade. I also used to love the kheer here. Somehow I think I love it more now. Another upgrade. My taste for Indian has evolved over the years. I've just eaten it a lot and I've tried a lot more local places. There are places that are serving more authentic food out there. This is still slightly tailored to more novice eaters I believe. It always was in my mind. But that's not a bad thing. They're back in my Indian rotation.

Human beings are funny that way. So for Father's Day, my wife booked a table for six at Mount Masala in Voorhees. This turned out to be an act of touching optimism. When we arrived on a Saturday night, only three other tables were occupied. We could have brought a small marching band and sat immediately. Still, the staff was warm, the room was pleasant, and we decided to order family style. Civilization occasionally gets things right. The sizzling chicken momo arrived first, hissing and steaming like a diva. Sadly, the spectacle outperformed the substance; it was essentially good food wearing a sequined jacket. The chicken tikka momo, however, was outstanding. They were tender dumplings smothered in a sweet, familiar tikka sauce that my boys attacked with an enthusiasm usually reserved for free money. My youngest ordered the chicken makai soup and delivered a concise, pro-level critique: "It's fine." My oldest enjoyed his tofu Manchurian, though his eyes kept wandering to better plates. The beef skinny noodles and chicken Hakku Bakku chowmein were massive and well-made, but they lacked personality. The chowmein tasted like a very good lo mein. Nothing wrong with that, just predictable. The undisputed star was the chicken choyla. It was smoky, spicy, and rich with mustard oil. If the other dishes were polite small talk, the choyla was the eccentric guest telling stories nobody had ever heard before. Everyone at the table kept reaching for it. As for the service, the staff was incredibly friendly but possessed a unique talent for vanishing. Despite the empty room, refilling water and securing extra napkins became a minor side-quest. But then the bill arrived: $120 for six people. These days, taking the family out can feel like financing a small yacht, so this felt like a genuine bargain. Mount Masala isn't perfect, but it's memorable. The choyla and the tikka momos gave me exactly what I've been hunting for: flavors that are unfamiliar, exciting, and well worth getting to know.

For the 7 that decided to go family-style, we shared: - Nepali Himalayan noodles with egg and vegetables (so good that we got a second round!); - Nepali Himalayan chicken fried rice (another table favorite!); and - 5 momo orders (goat, chicken x3, and shrimp) all of which were tasty, though personally I liked the savory ones more than the sweeter (e.g., the chicken tika momo) and the chicken and shrimp more than the goat, which had great flavor but was tougher than the others). We had one diner in our group who didn't love spicy food, so we stayed at a level 2 for most dishes. We did get the goat at a level-4 and it wasn't that spicy. Would definitely level up next time, depending who came along! A few diners got Mango Lassis, which were thick and delicious. The food comes out fast which was perfect for my hungry group! The three of us got four orders of momos to share. First was the chicken tikka momos, topped with what's basically tikka masala sauce, sweet and creamy. The veggie choyal momos were filled with a nice mix of veggies and potato that stood up to the meat options, and were also topped with a sauce that was more on the spicy and sour side. The chicken tandoori momos were fried and slightly crispy with a really delicious chili oil. Finally, the goat jhol momos were probably my favorite momo filling (I love lamb and it was so flavorful), and they paired great with the spicy tomato-y broth, though it still came behind the absolute best jhol momos I've had in Queens NY. Last thing we ordered was a lychee lassi, which was lighter than other thick yogurt-y lassis I've had and more akin to the East Asian drink Yakult, but it was so sweet and refreshing! There is real lychee pulp and I bet they make this in-house. Overall really happy to have found this place and to know that Philly can be introduced to the world of momos. Would absolutely come back, and I think my goal would be to get the goat momos again and try all the different preparations!

My wife, acting as both navigator and oracle, found Norbu after I asked for something within walking distance of our hotel. Four Himalayan restaurants, all within a short stroll, which felt statistically suspicious in the heart of Amish country. We chose Norbu because it had the best reviews and, more importantly, because it offered Nepalese and Bhutanese dishes, which none of us had ever tried. We are a family that tries to make it a point to say yes to the unknown. Finding it is part of the adventure. Norbu is tucked along North Christian Street, though calling it a street feels optimistic at best. It is more of a very committed alley. The restaurant sits inside an office building with a few brave parking spaces placed carefully on postage stamp sized lot out front. Had we been driving, I am certain we would have missed it and continued on, poorer for the experience. Fortunately, we were on foot and arrived intact. Inside, the place was alive at 7 PM. There were low tables with stools that suggested a more traditional way of dining, and a couple of unoccupied standard tables for those of us still learning. We took one of the latter and were seated quickly. We began with momo, a dish that seems like could quietly solve many of the world's problems if placed on the right tables. Soft, hand folded dumplings, steamed and served with a savory chutney. We ordered the "Mix It All" option, which gave us vegetable, beef, and chicken. Each had its own personality, its own quiet argument for why it should be your favorite. My older son ordered the Sweet N Sticky Tofu, which was the most familiar thing we ate all night. It tasted like a thoughtful conversation between General Tso and sesame tofu. Very good, very well executed, just less novel. I had the Pak Sha Datsi, the national dish of Bhutan, which I did not know until I read it on the menu and our server filled in the missing information with patience and enthusiasm. Norbu itself, we learned, is rooted in Himalayan traditions and a desire to share the food and culture of Nepal and Bhutan with a wider audience, which feels like a noble use of time. The dish arrived as a gently spiced stew with pork and a blend of aged and smoked cheeses. It was creamy, delicate, and somehow grew more interesting with every bite. It did not resemble anything I had eaten before, which is a rare and welcome thing as I grow ever older. My wife and younger son both ordered the Nepali Thali, a kind of edible symphony made up of curry, lentils, vegetables, chutneys, pickles, and a dessert pudding. My wife chose the fish curry, which was tender and lightly flavored. My son chose the chicken curry, which quietly became the star of the table. It had a familiar warmth, something like Indian curry, but with its own distinct voice. The accompanying mustard greens, curried potatoes, and a simple mix of green beans, corn, and carrots, were so flavorful that we found ourselves marveling at them like tourists at a natural wonder. Service was excellent. Our waitress guided us through the menu, made thoughtful suggestions, and shared a bit of the restaurant's story. By the end of the meal, we felt not just fed, but informed. Our only failure was not saving room for dessert. There was a chai flavored cashew cheesecake that sounded like it might change a person's outlook on life. We will have to return to test this theory. Norbu is the kind of place you hope to find and rarely do. It is hidden, a little hard to reach, and entirely worth the effort. Five stars, because sometimes you find something amazing and new, and that reminds you that the world is still full of good surprises.

We ordered Veggie Samosas, Paneer Makhni - cheese cubes cooked in a tomato sauce with butter [gluten-free], mild and spicy Butter Chicken (Makhni) tender pieces of chicken tandoori cooked in a fresh tomato sauce with butter [gluten-free] and Chicken Tandoori half chicken marinated in yogurt and herbs, then barbecued [gluten-free]. Some plain naan and for dessert Gulab Jamun home-made milk-balls dipped in honey syrup. I really enjoyed the flavors of the spicy Chicken Makhni. The meat was tender and the tomato sauce had a range of spices that made it hard to say when! The chicken tandoori had nice flavors too, but the meat was a tad dry. The Paneer was good, but the star of the show was the Chicken Makhni. Throw some rice and mint chutney in with the chicken makhni and naan .... Happiness .... I would love to return to try a Biryani. The Gulab Jamun was a miss. It lacked the syrup flavor I'm used to. The pricing was around $33 per person for what we ordered. There were leftovers. I would recommend ordering ahead as the wait time was a bit long. Everyone was stuffed and happy that we tried New Delhi. I'd repeat more often if I lived in the area.
