    Crack Kale

Whitman's!! It's just so... comfy. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Most of the seating is in their basement downstairs, which is small but feels so warm and inviting with its fun assortment of throwback Americana/NYC decor and the stack of well-loved board games they keep in the corner.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]For what it lacks in vibrancy, it certainly makes up for in warmth.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Walking in is easy, and the food is exactly what you'd expect. The juicy lucy is imperfect -- the pimento cheese is a fun concept, but kind of ends up being its own big blob instead of mixing in with the burger like it's supposed to -- but I mean, it tastes great. The fries are a good portion and solid, and the crack kale is honestly fantastic: light, airy, melt-in-your-mouth kale with plenty of Old Bay flavor. A great neighborhood spot for a perfectly respectable burger!

Whitmans has propelled itself to the top of our smashburger list. This amazing smash deviated from the standard by lacking pickles, but we didn't even care. It's perfectly moist without being greasy, which is usually a con, but in this case, it was a major pro. The flavor was on point. The SIDES were AMAZING. The crust on the onion rings almost melted in my mouth, and the loaded tots were not only gorgeous but also delicious. They were giving gourmet with the smokey cheese and pieces of bacon. It is pretty expensive for a smash with a side, but it's worth it.

Solid lunch spot in the neighborhood. The fries are far superior to the tater tots. Lamb burger was really tasty, but did think it was bizarre that the cheese came on the side. You can skip the fried pickles and just order some more fries.

After a show at UCB we came here for dinner. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It was busy on a Friday night upstairs but downstairs was dead.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I have been here a number of times but it has been a few years. I got the juicy Lucy which was excellent and the fried pickles which were also very good. The fries are amazing as well. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's like a rump room style downstairs which is fun.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Definitely come here for burgers if you're in the area!

[[HIGHLIGHT]]The ambiance was good and casual, great for friends.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The service was not so good, took about 30 minutes to get the check. Food was decent, I would recommend getting a smash burger instead of the regular burger since the patty is very thick.

Whitman's has a nice shack set up for outdoor seating with heat lamps for their three or so tables. It was a nice place for a cold Friday. We ordered a wedge salad and fried pickles to start. The pickles were very crispy and had a good sauce to go with it. The wedge salad was pretty good as well. I don't love blue cheese so I scraped a lot of the dressing off but the bacon bits went well with it. We shared the juicy Lucy burger between two of us. The burger was a bit smaller than I expected although it was quite heavy with all the cheese so we were still full at the end of the meal. Overall a cozy place to for outdoor dining. Service was a little slow although expected given COVID times.

    Bluicy and fries. $42.

The Bluicy with soggy undercooked bacon and no drink $42. I usually go to the restaurant and have always liked their burgers. This time I tried delivery and this is what came.

More of a 3.5 but I'll round up this time. The burgers are good and they have a big selection to choose from. They range from $11-$14 for just the burger. The sides are the real winners here. The fried pickles are thinly sliced, super crispy, and addictive. The onion rings are large, delicately fried on the outside and tender, not stringy, on the inside. Fries are good and brussel sprouts don't hurt. Friendly staff and quaint interiors.

The smash burger and fries here are to die for. Pro tip: Come in on Tuesdays for free fries with every burger.

Big fan of the cheesesteak. Seasoned well. Only opp would be that the fries are sometimes way over cooked when I order delivery.

We were thrilled to find two seats at the end of the bar when we arrived. As luck would have it, the two gentlemen next to us eventually left, allowing us to slide over and enjoy an even better view of the TV for the rest of the game. I started with a Tito's and club soda, but unfortunately, something seemed off--perhaps the club soda was flat. The drink just wasn't good. To their credit, the bartender took it back without hesitation and was very accommodating. I then ordered a Negroni after the woman sitting next to us highly recommended it. I don't usually drink gin, but this cocktail was absolutely delicious and changed my mind. Since we were there for several hours, we shared an order of zucchini and eggplant chips and happily snacked on them throughout the game. The atmosphere was comfortable and welcoming, with a nice mix of ages and people enjoying the evening. We made sure to leave our bartender a generous tip since we occupied our seats for the entire game. Even though the Knicks didn't pull out a win that night, we certainly didn't leave defeated. I'd happily return for another game, cocktail, and fun evening out. And maybe even get dinner there. Little did I know there was another big room in the ack once you past the restrooms. They were having a thriving business there!

He was constantly busy zippin around but maintained a nice demeanor and made everyone feel welcome! Must orders of mine: the burger! Although small, it comes out piping hot and the fresh white onion between the bottom bun and burger is awesome because it doesn't make the bottom bun soggy and catches all the juices from the actual meat. Love subbing the fries for a Caesar salad! Standout appetizer is the fried zucchini and eggplant with tzatziki-- crispy, hot, juicy and I get it every time!

It featured a crispy, sugar-glazed exterior and a soft, chewy interior, topped with truffle cheese and served with a truffle butter dip; the pairing was superb, and it tasted great both on its own and with the dip. For the main course, I ordered the miso-glazed black cod. The flavor was flawless, and while the portion was small (which was acceptable), the pool of broth accompanying it was completely unnecessary; it was inedibly salty, so what was the point of serving it? After finishing the fish, I was left with a plate full of broth, rendering the plate unusable. Plus, it was overpriced; for this dish, you're better off going to Strip House Strip House remains the undisputed king of this dish in New York. A friend ordered the chicken parmesan. It was just average. Another friend ordered the short rib stroganoff. The flavor was decent, but it was far too rich and heavy. As someone whose palate is split 50/50 between Western and Chinese cuisine, I could manage only five bites at most. If you have a palate that prefers 100% Chinese food, proceed with caution on this dish. Friends ordered sides of mac & cheese and mashed potatoes. These are dishes originally meant for low-income Americans to fill up on cheaply; there's no limit to how good they can be, but also no floor to how bad they can get. Both were on par with the average quality found in upscale restaurants. Honestly, these are two dishes I would never order myself. To sum up: the atmosphere was great. It's also hard to get a reservation; the place was packed when we had lunch at 2 PM. Aside from that monkey bread, I didn't feel like anything else justified the price or offered something you couldn't find elsewhere. I don't quite get the hype. Perhaps I just didn't order the right dishes; maybe next time I'll try the burger and the steak.

The Thick Cut Bacon (8.5/10) was sweet, crunchy, and cooked perfectly. The Wagyu Cheeseburger (7.5/10) tasted good, but the bun was too dry, dense, and oversized for the burger. The King Crab Rangoon (8/10) was packed with crab, almost too much for my taste, but the sweet chili and hot mustard sauces balanced it out nicely. The Espresso Martini (6/10) was a pretty standard espresso martini. The Long Island Cold Brew (3/10) tasted like cold brew mixed with vodka, which just wasn't for me. Service was fine overall (7/10). The highlight was the complimentary sorbet they brought out for my friend's birthday. The vibes were classic Hogsalt with dim lighting, old-school jazz, and a cozy atmosphere (7/10).
