Classic neighborhood diner that's great for breakfasts sandwiches and burgers. Quick service and very affordable prices. Great coffee.

Hamburger

I've been coming here for years, they are renowned for their absolutely delicious hamburgers. Their burgers remind me of my mother in laws whose were divine. I've had burgers all over the city and Joe's for sure ranks up there in the borough. Joe's has a diner counter if the place is packed, there is also outdoor seating on a nice day out. They have a typical diner menu if you didn't come for the burgers, the staff is very friendly and willing to accommodate anyone who might be picky. The bathroom is clean and the prices are reasonable for Manhattan, oh and try the onion soup!!

Hangover cured Very quick service, classic diner vibes, food is great and reasonably priced. Will be back :)

Pastrami Omelette

A really classic small diner serving typical breakfast menu during the morning. I got the pastrami omelette and it is delicious along with the home fries that go with it. Also love the vibe of such a neighbourhood diner with no fancy touches - just serving good food with friendly service!

Old school NYC diner that are sadly disappearing and becoming harder to find. It has a ruff and gruff charm to it. A bit grizzled and worn. Authentic. Cozy. A place where the locals gather. Solid food at decent prices. Friendly and quick service. Not much more to say. Dropped in for a quick lunch and was satisfied. French fries prepared crispy as ordered. Tasty sandwich. Pickle and cup of cole slaw are classic sides included with the meal. If you're the type who needs a place to be more fancy and shiny this won't be your thing. If you just want a decent meal in an old school no frills diner you'll settle right in here.

Meatloaf with mashed potatoes and gravy; and burger and fries.

{Overall: 3.5; Food: 3.25} Atmosphere: 3; Service: 3 Solid, old-school diner in Murray Hill with every diner staple you could want. The food here is what you'd expect from a diner experience. Over the weekend, the restaurant is always bustling - if there's a line, don't worry it moves quickly and they churn out the food ASAP after you order. We had the cheeseburger, meatloaf with mashed potatoes, a strawberry milkshake, OJ and black coffee.

Burger Deluxe
Al H.

We stopped by here mid-afternoon. This was on my bucket list as a lifetime fan of the hamburger. I flagged down the fella at the counter from the front door. The staff was apparently on a meal break. I ordered mine deluxe as we sat at an enclosed table on the sidewalk. I enjoyed it. The burger was cooked medium, as requested. I admit some of the photos on Yelp appear to be of thicker burger patties, though. Fries and burger were not overly greasy. The thimble sized cole slaw that came with it was an afterthought. I really liked my lemonade. Not too sweet. I will be sure to return some day.

Amazing vibes and food! We got a lunch reservation and I was surprised at how busy the restaurant…read morestill was. Service was a bit slow but not an issue. The waiter was really nice. I ordered the non-alcoholic ginger drink, spicy rigatoni pasta and the truffles pasta and Monkey Bread. Everything was so light and fluffy. None of the food felt heavy or greasy. Would definitely come here again!

There is currently construction and scaffolding in front of the place, but you'll see signage where to go at the opening of the scaffolding. We walked in, past the bar and checked in. We were seated within 5 minutes. I ordered a bourbon old-fashioned and we ordered crab rangoon as a starter. There were a lot of them and the sweet chili sauce was great. For my entree, I ordered the vodka rigatoni and a side of buttered broccoli. The vodka rigatoni was really good - liked the flavor and a decent size of pasta. The broccoli was really good for some reason to me. Also tried the truffle mac and cheese which was incredibly rich and tasted great. As a dessert, we had the chocolate pie which was dense, rich, and topped with a huge dollop of whipped topping. I really liked the atmosphere of the place, loud roaring 20s style with jazz playing. Plus I kept finding myself checking out the mural on the wall. Try it for yourself - but worth the fight to get a table.

Figured it's been a year so I'd update my review. Overall the Corner Store is still hard to get…read moreinto and still worth the hype, although portions have definitely shrunk. Did an earlier dinner on a Saturday with a friend at the bar. We got some similar items, some different. The thing I kept the same was my martinis and all three (sour cream and onion, tomato, and espresso) were just as amazing as ever. Food-wise, I stuck mainly to the classics with one new dish: - Pizza rolls: Very good but 3 pizza rolls for $20 felt small to me. I feel like I remember seeing others served more when I've gone in the past, but not completely sure. They're nostalgic and fun, nothing to die for. - Fries: Great as ever, we opted for just one of the sauces (avocado dill). - French Dip: This used to be cut in 3 pieces and now it's 2. Works well with a duo but I do think it's actually a little smaller now than before when I compare photos. - Samoa sundae: Still amazing, still so so worth. It was fun going with a friend who hadn't been before and seeing the joy upon trying the dish! Bar service is friendly as always and they do a decent job moving you along to ensure the necessary turnover without feeling too rushed.

Disclosure: My rating is based on the walk-in experience. The Corner Store doesn't offer…read morereservations for solo diners, reservations are notoriously difficult to get, and I waited about three hours in line for a seat. The Corner Store delivers genuinely excellent food at prices that feel refreshingly reasonable for New York City. My biggest criticism is that the restaurant can be overly particular about things that don't meaningfully improve hospitality or the guest experience. For example, I wasn't allowed to order a salad to go because of presentation standards and instead had to order it for dine-in before having it boxed up. The same mentality seemed to apply to the matchbooks, which were treated like prized collectibles despite being fairly standard restaurant matchbooks. The service was attentive and professional throughout, but great hospitality should make things easier for guests, not ask guests to accommodate the restaurant's preferences. One thing prospective walk-ins should know is that there is a significant difference between the walk-in and reservation experiences. Walk-ins are seated in the front bar area, which was much brighter and less moody than the spaces that made the restaurant famous online. The main dining room looked considerably more atmospheric and visually impressive, while the bar felt more like a standard upscale restaurant bar. After waiting three hours, it was hard not to feel like I was getting a different version of the experience than the one most people see on social media. The food was very good, but not so unique that it justified all the fuss. I'd rate it an 8/10 with a reservation and closer to a 6/10 as a walk-in.

It was our first time eating at a Friedman's location. It had a nice diner feel to it, with a mix of booths and tables. The brunch menu has a variety of breakfast items, salads, sandwiches and burgers, starters, and entrees (fish tacos, grain bowl, fried chicken). I like that several of the items are naturally gluten free, and some can be made gluten free by request. We decided to go with three breakfast items from the brunch menu: I got the shakshuka, my sister got the Nova Benny, and we got the lemon ricotta pancakes to share. All 3 dishes were great. The shashuka came with grilled ciabatta, perfect for dipping into the sunny side eggs and tomato sauce. My sister loved that the poached eggs and smoked salmon of the Nova Benny came on top of a crispy potato latke. The pancakes were fluffy and the lemon ricotta and lemon zest elevated their flavor. Our server was friendly and attentive, and he asked us if we had any allergies when he took our order. He came by several times to check on us and refill water. I would return to Friedman's when I'm in the Herald Square area, or check out one of their other locations in the city.

He didn't even finish but found it amazingly delicious. Service was okay. Nothing too spectacular. I almost felt an inconvenience to the server but we didn't have a fussy order nor was it busy (we ordered before the rush). Maybe she was preparing for the rush. Lol either way, it wouldn't stop me from returning.

So thoughtful, and such a great touch to start the evening for us. We decided to order the family style menu and we enjoyed the whole dinner. Not something a party of two would be able to east, so we skipped apps altogether. Sucks too, because several tables had it and it liked amazing, just too much for two. For dinner I had the Yemeni Au Police Kebab, Filet Mignon which was absolutely delicious. The peppercorn Hawaii really sweetened the meat's flavor. So high marks for the steak. My wife had two small dishes which she wasn't as thrilled with, Grilled Artichokes which were too dry for her liking and Manti, which she liked. Main takeaways. Very pricey, beautiful atmosphere (if you get a nice table) and maybe a place that's better for a group than a couple.
