The worst part of the evening was the smug attitude of everyone from wait staff to the bartenders, not very friendly and it made me a little uncomfortable.

I am old enough to well remember when the nines were reversed, and what is now 1 was 10 and 18 was 9 and so on. I wish they would realize switching was a mistake for many reasons - the biggest ones being the spectators were robbed of the enjoyment of having the 18th green and 1st tee being right next to the clubhouse. But I digress. The staff was more than accomodating. The cashier gave me a resident rate without a hassle. (I just took up residence here on 10/1) $20 later I'm on the tee - roughly 3:15 without a tee time, reservation, or hassle. "Have a nice round," the starter said. "Thanks," I said. (A little courtesy goes long way.) Anyway, I barely saw anyone on the course. I had a lost tee shot in the middle of the fairway on #3. Are my eyes going? But no biggie. You have to understand the Red Course knocks you off guard from the very first hole. The longer your drive on #1 (I was playing from the Blues) the more blind the second shot due to the steep hill. Name another course where the first hole is the #1 HANDICAP HOLE? Anyway I had a wonderful round and many golden moments. The silence, the simple, predictable, yet subtle upsetting challanges in wind, slope, terraine, perspective, are what make the game. Architect Robert White's work still holds up today. The Red and Black Courses have always been known for serious, competant, and pleasant competative golf. Their summer golf school is better than many others in the area. Easily tougher then Longshore, and a nicer parking lot than Smith. Cheers DFW! Keep it going!

Beautiful setting and an example of "how the other half lives." We were out this way for our…read morenephew's wedding and they had access to and used this spectacular setting for the ceremony and dinner. Since the weather co-operated, you really could not have asked for a better event from start to finish. Redding is about 30 minutes or so north of Norwalk, the time depending on traffic and weather ... usually you can make it a bit faster. The Norwalk location is a good place to stage people if you are coming out here for a large event, because there isn't much hotel space right in Redding and Norwalk is on a train stop. Norwalk is a bit over an hour from La Guardia Airport. You have easy access to Newark also. The food was delicious and served up quickly ... can't be too definitive here since the food was pre-selected for the wedding dinner. Being a larger event, some of the food didn't arrive as hot as one might like, but all was nicely done and prepared. All in all, this made a lovely wedding site, and since the pair getting married had rented buses, everybody made it back to their hotel in Norwalk. If you are ever out this way, try and find someone who'll get you in the club ... I would love to know how the golf is.
