This place is a nightmare! The sales staff act like they care until they get your loved one hooked and then the staff at Whitney Oaks completely ignore's them. The first night my mom was there my cousin saw an old man in the hallway so desperate to get into the locked bathroom that he just dropped his pants in the hallway. When they found him, instead of letting him go to the bathroom they put him back in his room. I should have taken that as warning. My mom who can not walk has only been there a week and they have already abandoned her on a toilet for a half hour and then last night after hitting the call button numerous times then screaming for the nurse to help her go to the bathroom, her roommate finally had to get up to get a nurse, this happened twice, once at 2 am and then at 5 am. How can this be called healthcare? We picked this facility because we were told that my mother would get better physical therapy there than she could get at the hospital, she is actually getting less and her condition is getting worse. If you love someone do not send them here. read more

There are humans slumped over, drooling and soiled in the hallways and they release people Against medical advice due to non payment knowing an application for medi care is pending. When entering a skilled nursing facility, one has to remember that you will have a myriad of medical and mental debilitations that you will encounter. I stayed at Whitney Oaks for 6 weeks and I encountered almost all of the demographics, in regard to patients and patient care. From the beginning of my stay to the fruition of treatment, I encountered the most courteous, caring and compassionate staff from admissions, to janitorial. CNA's: The Certified Nursing Assistants are the unsung heroes of the operation. These individuals go above and beyond to ensure that the essential needs of the patients are met in a timely manner. Additionally, they provide the extras such as unscheduled snacks, showers on unscheduled shower days (Where Applicable), ice water and a genuine compassion for the needs of the patient. You have to remember that these are the people that deal directly with the "Call/Help Button" requests. Additionally, they are the ones who change adult diapers, clean up vomit, change linens and provide eating aid for patients who need it. All of the CNA's that work on the 300 hallway and beyond endure the pressure and abuse of some residence with a smile and a willingness to perform. I am a former Federal Security Manager, and I would want all of them from the 300 hallway on my team. NP: I will not name names, however if you have the opportunity to meet the Nurse Practitioner for the 300 hallway, you will not be disappointed. This individual possesses a breast of knowledge and due diligence that exceeds the working practice of most physicians. The NP's demeanor is approachable and very professional. At one point I had some trouble with my PICC line. As a point of precaution and expertise the NP implemented a solution that was essential and beneficial. The NP's quick and knowledgeable decision making, may have save my life. RN & LVN: The Registered Nurses and Licensed Vocational Nurses are amazing. Their principal function is advanced medical assessment (LVN) of admitted patients and medication distribution (RN). All of the care and medication distributions are executed with surgical precision. The dignity of the patient is paramount with all procedures performed. I observed the RN's performing "The 5 Rights of Medication Distribution" without fail, every time and without exception. This speaks to their professionalism and their genuine want to ensure the proper care of each patient. Okay, the big question for any future resident is: "How is the food?" First and foremost, one must understand that the facility is not operating a restaurant and it is not grandma's kitchen, so you cannot expect a gourmet meal. With that being said, I will state that despite the hurdles the cooks are fighting (bulk made and pre-made dishes) and impending complaints that will come, the kitchen does an amazing job at ensuring that all of the faire is flavorful and temperature appropriate. They do allow residence to "Order off the Scheduled Meals" with a request card. You can get a "Real" Fruit salad with sliced Cantaloupe, Watermelon and Oranges served with yogurt or cottage cheese (I recommend), or a Chef Salad that is amazing and filling (I recommend) as well as grilled cheese, tuna or egg salad sandwiches and soups. Additionally, for a snack they also offer a great peanut butter and jelly sandwich on white or wheat along with cookies, fruit cups, pudding and other miscellaneous items. Compared to hospital food, I would say that the overall quality, portions and accommodating options available, the food should have a stellar review. Administrative Staff: The administrative staff exorcises the same level of care and concern as the medical staff. Everyone is extremely helpful and willing to answer questions and provide clarification with difficult matters and situations. I never once heard a fowl word uttered, or a misstep in procedure and performance. Their level of professionalism should be the rule of measure that all others are measured by. In closing I would like to thank everyone at Whitney Oaks for making my 6 week stay bearable. I was one of the youngest residences in the facility and I am very mobile and independent. Due to the nature of my treatments and condition, all of the staff understood when I would request a LOA (Leave of Absence) after my treatments. I feel that I may have been afforded additional latitude and it is greatly appreciated. If I could I would rate my entire stay as beyond 5 stars. Thank you, once again. read more

My mother is currently at this facility for physical therapy rehab and she is very pleases with her care. The only problem was the mix up with her medication. I also didn't quite like how they had no formal intake procedure there. Mom had been there for a few hours and was given a meal before they even knew her medical history. Mom is diabetic and has multiple food allergies. But so far she is happy. It would be nice if they had more phones though. read more

This is a great facility!! I am a volunteer here and I love volunteering here, all of the staff and patients here are really really nice to everyone. The nurses always pay attention to the patients, and i never see the nurses not paying attention to the patients. Whitney Oaks also has an awesome schedule, they always have events for the patients so that they dont feel like theyre at a rehab place, they make it FUN here! So if i were you and you have a loved one who needs to recover from something, i totally suggest Whitney Oaks because everything here is WONDERFUL!! read more

The nursing care overall was very good. Mai, Jackie, Debbie, Henry, Patrice, Harvey, Brandi, Olga took very good care of all of my needs throughout my stay. A 5+ nursing staff.! Physical therapy was very good. Jennifer, Steven, Deanne, Katrina were all very helpful in my recovery. Celeste, and Nikki in activities were very good. Zeb in social services was very helpful! Do NOT send your loved one here! My mom was sent here to do rehab to regain her strength. Upon arrival there was no one there to greet us or at the front desk. There were people walking in and out of the facility that looked sketchy. I walked up and down the halls looking for someone to help me. Finally I saw what I thought was a nurse and she asked me what I was doing. When I told her I was there to admit my mother she said I needed to find someone else. She walked down another hall and located a nurse who asked me what I needed. Again I told her that I was trying to admit my mother. When I gave her my mothers name she said it sounded familiar and then pointed to her room and said she will be in that room over there let me grab her paperwork. When I walked into the room it reeked of cigarettes. I stood in the hallway for about 10 minutes and the nurse never returned. In the meantime I was watching people just come and go in and out of the facility. I decided I was not going to leave my mother here and proceeded to walk out. The nurse came outside and said that she did not have any paperwork for my mother and did not know she was coming. She said I'll take her and contact Kaiser. She asked if my mother needed a wheelchair and I told her she needed a walker. The nurse said she couldn't get her a walker because they were locked up in the physical therapy room. She told me to wait a minute and she would go back in and grab someone's wheelchair to help transport her from the car to her room. At that point I said no thank you and drove away. I am completely appalled that Kaiser would contract out with this facility. It was very dirty dark and smelly. And what about patient safety? Free access to anyone who entered that building there was not enough staff to monitor what was going on. Completely a horrific experience! read more

He addressed the plumbing issue, not the rude and threatening staff, or the fact that my roommate was allowed to scream in pain for over 4 and 1/2 hours without help. We have an elderly mother who worked her entire life and is currently 81. She has parkinson but manages to live alone and take care of herself. Us kids visit frequently and always take turns helping her regularly. She recently fell and broke her arm. We contacted this facility and asked if they offered temporary care. They explained to us all the referrals and forms they would need to process our mother. We followed up with calling releasing hospital, primary care doctor. We spoke with this facility through out the day into the next day doing everything they told us to do. All the while trying to care for our mother for four days and getting her to all the doctors and etc. they requested. Then they informed us about 4pm that they had no room for her. ???!! Really?! We spent all this time dotting our i and crossing our t to hear you had no availability? This was valuable time while our mother suffered in pain and needed much tending to from bath rooming, meds, feeding etc. We could have been contacting other facilities. They took social card, medical info, contacted primary for referral, contacted coverage from our insurance company. When they had no availability?? They spoke in circles explaining nothing. Then when I asked for supervisor they informed they did not have the ability to care for her particular need. Excuses and total disregard for the sick and elderly let alone families working so diligently to care for a loved one. We have full insurance for a mother who worked hard her entire life till retirement and were treated no better than those with out insurance. Beware and stay clear of this facility. read more

My 67 year old mother has been at Whitney Oaks for two months. Unfortunately it has been determined that she will require long term skilled nursing. While this has been a very difficult adjustment, the staff at Whitney Oaks has been outstanding and I am grateful every single day for the care she is receiving. I am disappointed to see the negative reviews as I visit the facility often and have never witnessed anything but friendly staff and compassionate care. While nobody wants to see their loved one in a "nursing home', I could not be more grateful that my mother is safe and well cared for. read more

Oh my God where do I start! Rehabilitation was anything but. My hundred-year-old grandmother was there for rehabilitation and I think she spent more time sitting in a wheelchair or lying in bed more than being helped to regain her walking ability. The food oh my God! So bad. As my mom said the food they feed the Homeless was better than the food they serve to the residents there. On a daily basis we had to go out and actually purchase food for my grandmother and her roommate during her stay there. You can hear other patients screaming and trying to break out of the facility during the overnight hours and allowed to Rave On unchecked. Oh and when Medicare came to do an inspection that day we took my grandmother out of there what a different place that was! The staff was dressed to the nines professional it was artwork hanging on the walls there were flowers and decorations all over the facility it was squeaky clean. Medicare should be alerted about this so if anybody is involved with Medicare take note. Somebody in upper management is pocketing money and it's not going to the patients there! read more

The entire nursing staff from all of the CNA's , nursing supervisors to ADON's on the 500 hall were excellent in my care. ZNikki, Carmen, and Henry, Jatu, Elaina. The entire PT staff was superbly excellent! Steven, James, Melissa were all phenomenal in my rehabilitation. The OT personnel was excellent as well. The activities personnel took my mind off my frustrations they were excellent. Celeste was especially helpful.Zeb was extremely helpful in social services. The RNA staff was extremely helpful! Whitney Oaks' nursing assistants repeatedly told my Mom and her roommate to "just pee in your diaper!" Average call light response time was 1 hour. On more than one occasion, Whitney staff ignored my mom's requests for help. They didn't even look at her when she spoke to them. Whitney staff was not observed washing their hands and/or using hand gel. Whitney RNs refused to tell my Mom or her Durable Power of Health representative what medications they were giving her in the name of HIPAA. The RNs there did not even check my Mom's identity prior to medication administration as my Mom was not given an ID band until almost 2 weeks into her stay. The RNs did not compare my mom to any picture ID either prior to any interventions. Whitney Oaks lost my Mom's lab specimen. It was a horrific experience. My family has had very positive experiences with other skilled nursing facilities. My mother's stay at Whitney Oaks was horrifying, degrading and not safe. Please consider placing your loved ones in any other facility prior to submitting them to the very sad & unsafe conditions at Whitney Oaks. read more
