Came here with a new companion of mine. This was my idea but companion was in support out of respect. I am on my second to last restaurant on James island. I wanted to save this as my grand finale but they always say better to not be first but to be last or something like that. Companion and myself played a guessing game of favorite flavors of ice cream (still "learning" about each other") and we had some decent answers I think I liked my favorite ice cream flavors are better than her favorite and then things got rowdy once she started making fun of whoppers and she called me a 3 year old and I called her inconsiderate then she threw the ice cream at my new favorite shoes. Came here with some friends and had an enjoyable time. This location is right by a busy set of dining, making the parking lot incredibly stressful. The vibe inside of the shop is also pretty barren, making it better to go take someplace else. There also wasn't terribly much seating. I was very excited to try Whit's as I do love frozen custard. The menu is a little confusing since it has premade flavor combinations, but with only chocolate, vanilla or the flavor of the month as the base. I did need a little bit of time to process the menu and was confused by if you get toppings, it is not a scoop, but instead in a cup. A great new addition to James Island. I was craving ice cream and decided to stop on and try it. They have plenty of seating and ice cream options that you can order in or take to go. I ordered the custom ice cream and added coconuts, Oreos, and chocolate with whipped cream. They can blend in the topping with your ice cream which is great, so you get toppings in every bit. The service was quick and the staff was very pleasant. This place is great for all occasions and very family friendly. read more

Arguably there are not any "great" ice cream shop options on the James / Johns Island sides of the peninsula so I was thrilled to see Whit's sign when it was under construction. I'm also a big fan of custard which was an even bigger bonus. Unfortunately my excitement ends there. The interior is stiff and uninviting. The walls are bare and white, the menu is not visible when you walk in, you have to go around the freezer case to see it. It also does not explain the difference between a "sundae" and a "whitser" which is essentially having your toppings mixed in or not. Flavor options are limited to 3 and the toppings are plentiful. The ice cream itself was okay, a little bitter but at least it was nice and cold with this hot weather. We found the staff to be okay -- they did their job but weren't friendly or memorable. Seating is extremely limited, too. Only 2 tables and a few bar seats. We had to stand to eat until someone left, there was also a group taking up extra unused seats which was a bit obnoxious. I don't know if we'd return, it's probably worth driving into West Ashley for a better experience. read more

They always have vanilla and chocolate frozen custard, and each week they have a unique flavor. Today I had two scoops in a cup - half chocolate brownie and half vanilla. The frozen custard is rich and delicious! We ate indoors - they have a few tables and chairs. There are quite a few takeaway items such as pints of frozen custard, frozen custard cookies, and frozen custard cakes. I want the cake for my birthday! Traveled from out of town. We always seem out new places and surprise local family with new places. Vanilla custard is very good and fresh. The menu has pre-designed options and you can create your own. They have premade pints, quarts, and small/large ice cream cakes. For those upset with the interior ambiance, it's an ice cream joint. Me and my kids went to get and special Friday treat. As soon as we walked in we were greeted by the owners who held the door for us. Then we order and root beer float, an ice cream Sunday and a dirt worm ice cream pie. They were all great but the root beer float was amazing. Food five star and service five star oh and the I think the shop is locally owned and the building and the vibes are really cute.
