I love coming to this dog park! I can only speak for the small dog side since I have a Maltipoo, but we've had a great experience. The park is cleaned every Thursday, and the owners here are friendly and respectful, keeping a close eye on their dogs. One of my favorite things is the little group of regulars who come during the week around 6 p.m., especially when the sun starts to go down and it cools off. It's become a fun little community for both the dogs and their owners. The park provides poop bags, making it easy to clean up after your pup, and it's fun watching the big dogs play from the other side. The large dog area is definitely bigger, but the small dog side has been perfect for us. Overall, we've really enjoyed coming here and look forward to many more visits! read more

I've gone a few times around noon during the week and there are usually less than 5 dogs there, lots of open parking spaces in dog park lot. It's a nice long lot, full dirt, drinking water fountains with pet level bowl, waste pick up bags, a few spots with benches and shade. Park runs parallel to the greenway trail. This is for mostly the little dog side and also in comparison to other local parks I've visited (Hacienda HeightsDali's dog park and Brea's Wildcatters) I rescued a dog knowing this was going to be our local space for him (no yard life) . We've been going for the last 18 months, here are the pros and cons. I'm going to keep it real- Whittier demographics are diverse but also gentrifying yet, its still a highly latino area. There are going to be chihuahuas, mix breeds, little white dogs, pitbulls and many brown people. I don't think this matters but I've seen people, usually white, come this park act like its "the ghetto" because its dirt or a dog peed on their fancy purse they shouldn't have taken to any dogpark. Everyone is welcome but don't shade the diversity. if it matters to you, Brea is a whiter area which is reflected by its many designer doodles. Dali's demographic leans more Asian owners & purebreeds. Both are newer and have had millions put into their parks. pros: -its always free AND you have greenway trail access for dog walking/pulls/biking -usually parking- except for sunset in sunny months...but people figure it out or park on philadelphia -always has doggy bags/cleaned weekly - In and out down the street for pup patties - multiple starbucks close for coffee/ pup cups - the regulars I know tend to be welcoming, except the clique groups, but don't be surpised if we mention things like closing the gate or taking your dog off the leash so its not reactive. newbies often underestimate this issue and are surpised how their dog does better off leash. Trust that we've seen dogs dart out , so its not ego, just dog safety as there is a busy street nearby. cons: - no restrooms nearby, plan accordingly - some benches don't have shade so wear sunscreen - people not reading park rules ot learning ettiqutte (leaving gates open) - People on the big dog side have the most issues due to the owners not knowing their dogs ot breeds or reactions enough- especially weekends (more newbies) -Smaller dog side issues usually are owners not giving their dog a time out or monitoring humping but just call the owner if u experience a fixated dog. don't be shy. it seems a lot of people don't like the dirt/no grass but I wash my dog weekly, so I don't have an issue. cleaning is Thursday so come those days. When it gets hot that is the norm for most parks, I've seen more flies at Brea's sand though that park is mostly astroturf...their benches really smell. - Yes there clique groups at various times, just ignore them. some are nicer, some warm up after a while, some don't but I'm from the school of being friendly but not wanting friends- it's my dog's space so I just avoid. I was aware of the morning clique from a previous review so it made visits easier. - Weekends are for newbies, so just know that is when you get there its when new people who don't know park rules like taking off the leash before entering or those who are apprehensive of the space of their dog's reactions. It's also when new people bring in problematic stuff like food/treats/fluffy toys because generally they don't understand those cause problems. read more

Cute dog park that has two separate sections. One for dogs 30 lbs and over and the other section for dogs weighing under 30 lbs. I'm writing my review based on he small sided dog park. Clean for the most part but it is a dirt based dog park so expect to bring some wipes for your dogs feet. Also when I came most of the dirt was wet so closed toe shoes are recommended. Has a water fountain for dogs as well as five benches to sit on- two of them which are under a shade tent. Has two trash cans on the small dog side as well as bags to pick up after your dog(s). I really thought the fire hydrants are a funny touch because I feel like a few dogs enjoyed peeing on them haha. I appreciate that it has its own small parking lot- which can get filled up at peak hours. I also noticed it's next to a bike path in case anyone is interested in that! read more

Love this park! There are many friendly people who come by and lots of friendly dogs! My dogs LOOOOVEEE coming here and running around like wild animals. I take my little maltipoo to the BIG DOG side with her boxer brother. She has yet to be harmed, although lots of the big dogs love to punk her since she's so small compared to them. I started coming here about 2 weeks ago. Both times I went, I witnessed a dog fight. The first one was sad to watch. In this case it looked like the attacker dog was already being vicious even before he attacked. In this case, I strongly believe that if you know your dog can be territorial to an extreme or unpredictable, maybe reconsider. The damage that attack dog did to the victim dog was absolutely horrifying. I just wanted to spread the word on this and let future goers know. But on the bright side, this dog park is really nice. I took my daughter's dog there . And I was shocked of how many owners don't pick up their poop . So I was compelled to pick up every piece of dog shit man that was a chore . This is such a great local dog park for my Koda. 2 sides of the park, one for small breads, and one for large breeds. It is well maintained by the city, I've only had one instance where a dog owner didn't clean up after their pup. The large breed area is just massive with lots of room to stretch their legs. While the small breed side is large enough for every one (k9 and humans) to not have to crowd each other. read more

Fifteen years in the works - my home town residence of Whittier has its first dog park! Located directly behind the Whittier Green Trail, this dog park has its own parking lot. I arrived on a weeknight and the grand opening of the park was just last Saturday. The dog park is divided into two sections - large dog & small dog areas. The large dog area is much larger than the small dog area. It's big overall- a great place to bring your doggie. Before entering either area there's enclosed areas to unleash and prepare your pooch which was great planning. Inside each section you'll find dummy fire hydrants, tarped shaded areas, cement benches and plenty of space for your loved ones to run wild and mingle with many other pooches. Heart the location since I can get in a nice walk on the green trail and then kick it at the dog park. I definitely will be returning here again. read more

Excellent dog park. If you live locally stop bye and if you don't it's definitely worth the trip. This dog park is well serviced and maintained. It does have separate parks for small dogs and large dogs. Very positive and friendly environment. It's a great place to bring your dog and have them play while you meet new people and socialize. Every owner was extremely friendly. Poop bags are provided in the park incase you forget yours. The park does not have lights so you may want to be here before dawn. Parking is also limited. Although I frequently bring my Labrador to this park, and there are people who are involved and create events for the dogs to participate in, there are a lot of owners who pay absolute NO attention to their dog. I have had way too many experiences where I was scared for my dog and we had to leave and try and avoid coming at certain times to avoid certain people/dogs. If you have a male who is not neutered, PLEASE DO NOT bring them to the park! Not only is this a clear stated violation, but it is very real and very scary for females! Spayed or not. I had various encounters with the same tan/white male pit-bull, not neutered, who follows my Labrador all throughout the park, refusing to let her play with any other dog, MALE OR FEMALE, and is being ridiculously territorial over her! I have not been able to bring her since. Not only this, but the owner is talking the WHOLE time, and is not engaging in what's happening (he engaged only twice when it was happening literally right in front of him while his friends were obnoxiously laughing?), while it seems everyone else in the dog park is noticing what is occurring! It is very frustrating and dangerous. Please DO NOT TAKE NOT NEUTERED AGGRESSIVE DOGS TO THE PARK! Side note: the pit-bull himself is very sweet towards humans, the owner is the issue. read more

Came by here for the first time several weeks back and was not too impressed. This park is entirely dirt and did not have much shade at all. The small dog area is much smaller than the area for large dogs and was loaded with feces, even though there were plenty of poopy bags around. There were only a few other people in that area and none of the dogs really wanted anything to do with others. The other dog owners would just glare and never said anything to me. The large dog area emptied out shortly after I arrived but I never went over there. I did walk my dog along the walk trail that goes alongside the dog park to check out the other side. That was a nice area that was enjoyable. In the end, this dog park is what it is. It has potential to be better, but only time will tell. read more

Love bringing my dog to this park. Everyone here is so friendly. Park is big and it's all dirt so makes it easy to pick up your dogs waste. They have waste/poop baggies all over the park just in case you forget to bring yours which is a big plus and very convenient. This is the first park that my pup went to after he received all his shots. Every single time I come , there is always an abundant amount of dogs which is perfect! Basically the nicer the weather , the more puppies. I love how the drinking fountain looks very well maintained and clean. The people here in Whittier are so nice and friendly well at least the ones I have run into. People pick up after their kiddos. My dog loves coming here now that he is more comfortable interacting with the other pups! I do have some recommendations though... 1) Add lighting of some sort, especially during the winter hours now that it gets dark around 4 PM. Some people can come after the sun goes down because they get out of work late or whatever reason it may be. 2) There is a lot of dirt... I wish it had grass of some sort because my pup gets really dirty afterwards which is okay because he isn't high maintenance when it comes to grooming. Just less dirt in general lol. read more

#1 Son & his fiancee have been bringing their dogs here for some time and said that we'd probably like it here too. We did! And decided to make this our preferred dog park. Pros- It feels clean! It's leveled dirt & gravel which is okay because you don't have to worry about stepping on hidden poop mines in grass. Nice 2-gate entry. The small dog side is just the right size. Even though much smaller than the big dogs' side, there's still plenty of room for them to run. Bench areas (one canopied). Some colorful hydrants & trees for the dogs to do their "marking" thing. Very friendly folks. We were chatting with people the whole time. People were being attentive to their dogs. There were quite a few terrier and chihuahua mixes just like our dog. Cons- Only one is that I wish there was more parking. Not a big deal. It's easy enough to find street parking and walk in. My husky was bit by a white albino pit today around 2pm. The city should have cameras there to help protect owners from irresponsible pet owners. Since these same small dog owners are likely unable to distinguish reality from fiction just as they're probably unlikely to differentiate the size of a monster truck and a small pickup, I'll give an example. If you have a kid that's a great quarterback in Pop Warner, would you want to throw him into a game against the D-line of the Buffalo Bills?? No! You'd be labeled an unfit parent, you dolts! Big dogs just playing and sniffing can actually hurt little dogs. Take them to the small dog side. Do the right thing. And as far as your size distortion problem. Saturday I took my small mixed breed dog to this park. My dog was a pandemic dog and previous owner did not socialize him but he does not aggress towards other dogs; he just doesn't know how to play. Inside the small side there were some big dogs and one male husky dog that was not neutered who would not leave my dog alone. My dog just stood there stiffly and the hackles on the husky were up and he only bothered my dog. I yelled to the owner to get his dog to the large section and he said "when I got here no one was here." He did not seem concerned but the people around me noticed his dog's obsession and aggressive behavior towards my dog. If you hear Daisy, Buddy, or see a bulldog thats older,walk away. They like to fight with dog's and the owners really don't care. Came here yesterday with my boxer. No one was here booooo :( Anyways... so the large dog area is large! Heaps of room for my big goofball to run up and down. Wish there was a drinking fountain on each end because it is a bit of a walk (just a tad bit). They have heaps of bag stations so that you really have no excuse to not pick up your dogs mess... although awkwardly I saw poop like 2 feet away from the bags.... I dont understand why owners are too lazy to pick up their dogs mess.... I like all the little shaded areas they have. Plenty of seating for owners in the shade.
