So now that this one is open, I thought the big new ShopRite would bring forward the best parts that Parsippany features. Things I like: Much more expansive and well lit. Aisles are longer and better organized. Things I dislike: Still not nearly as well organized as Parsippany. Those new digital price tags that are hard to read. The parking lot is laid out perpendicular to the building instead of parallel, so you have to commit to a row and you can easily get stuck there as people pull in and out. Yeah, Caldwell is still crowded after the expansion, whereas Parsippany spreads out very nicely. Fun closing fact: Went to leave last night and the traffic light never changed. The car in front of me gave up after a couple of minutes and went to the other driveway. I just made a right turn and U-turned. Something went bad on Essex County's side, I'm absolutely not holding that one against the supermarket. But it sealed the deal for me. The verdict: Continue west to the Parsippany location.

This store rivals any store one might find in Sunnyvale or Fremont, except it is cleaner, better lit has better prices, and a WAY bigger frozen food selection. On some funky diet where you have to find flours that are not wheat? Do NOT go to Whole Foods (Whole Paycheck more like) to spend over $10 a pound for unusual flours like Rice Flour, Garbanzo Bean AKA Chickpea AKA CHANA FLOUR or (that is what it will be called here), Moong (Mung) Bean Flour, Urad Flour, Amaranth flour, etc. They even have Organic flours if that's your bag. Spices.....They have them in bags that are too big for a common American cook but at the prices they charge, you can use some of it and just throw it out when it gets too old. Or better yet, share them with a friend that would otherwise be too intimidated to venture out to discover and then use "unusual" spices. Their produce section was big and had good quality produce. Nicest looking Okra I have seen in a while and considering it is January and snowing outside, that is saying something. They have things like fresh Curry Leaves, Methi Greens (Fenugreek Leaves), Turmeric (both the usual orange AND white) etc. So if your yoga instructor "diagnoses" you will not only a Gluten "allergy" but says you need to be eating these esoteric foods, this is the place to find them.
