Tonight was my first time and i couldn't have been more satisfied! I got a half slab of ribs, corn bread, baked beans, and mac and cheese. Every single thing i ate was absolutely delicious. Went there after late baseball game. Great food, hearty portions and reasonably priced. I tried the new bbq wings. Man! They were good. Possibly the best I've ever had. Sweet, nutty, smokey, sticky. Yum! The pulled-pork Hog Fries were also delicious. Spread some of the Vinegar Mustard sauce (#6 I think) on them and I was in heaven. My wife had the pulled pork sandwich and declared it delicious. Five stars for food quality. I have been to Memphis several times and have traveled the country quite extensively. In my travels I have fallen in love with this country's bbq especially Memphis. The Whole Hog Cafe is spectacular and holds its own as one of the best. My wife and I just came back from there and we can't wait to go back and bring my stepson. The ribs were so delicious I regret not getting the full rack. The cheesy corn was so unexpectedly good I was shocked. I'm so glad my wife saw it on the menu. The corn bread was too good for words. Tried Whole Hog Cafe tonight and loved it! My husband and I split the Ultimate Platter & even have plenty left over for lunch tomorrow. All of the meats thst come with that platter - pulled pork, pulled chicken, brisket, and ribs were all tender and juicy. The sides we chose - coleslaw, potato salad, and baked beans were delicious. 3.5 stars really - bbq was quite tender and flavorful, especially when paired with their 7 different bbq sauces (go for number 3!). However it seems fairly obvious that they meat's been sitting out for hours, which contributed to the slight dryness of the meat, especially the pulled pork and chicken. These two both lacked any extra smokiness or falling-apart characteristics and honestly felt only minorly better than the average pulled pork or bbq chicken. If it wasn't for a copious amount of bbq sauce I dare say it would have been quite the sad meal. The brisket was good, but similarly was dry from (most likely) sitting under a heat lamp for several hours. The star of the meal for me was the rib, which truly fell off the bone, was tender, and was moist. Sides were unspectacular and fries most definitely came out of the frozen aisle section - wouldn't bother with these again unless I was truly famished and needed to order a combo. The decor of this place is odd - a mix between old southern style tackiness in the way how they display a trillion trophies around the restaurant for bbq events that are irrelevant because Whole Hog Cafe is now a chain restaurant and has to mass produce their meat and ship it across multiple states; and, of an old southern homely feeling with their plush booths. Overall the place is reminiscent of a high school cafeteria in presentation. It's not a place you should come to for important events, but it serves you bbq without fuss which actually, I now realize, is kind of a large part of the appeal of southern bbq. The pork was awesome.the brisket was bland and I would not recommend it. The ribs are a solid 7 on a scale from 1-10. The cole slaw was great and so was the baked potato . I love their baked beans. I like the fact that they don't sauce everything . It shows there not afraid to let you taste the meat. I don't know why they don't have French fries or onion rings like most BBQ places. This place is really tasty! We came here pretty late for dinner, about 730 and it wasn't busy at all. Food came out fast! The portions are a really good size, not too big and not too small . I got a half rack of ribs and they were perfect although I couldn't finish them. The Mac and cheese wasn't anything too special though. I live in philly and frequently venture across the bridge for the tasty food that the whole hog has to offer. The BBQ is good quality and they offer plenty of different types of sauces, so there is a sauce for everyone. If you r especially adventurous then go for the volcano sauce. It is behind the counter so you will have to ask for it. Just keep in mind the volcano sauce brings a whole lotta heat with it! As for the sides my favorite are the baked beans and chili. The others sides they offer are just ok. When the person behind the counter asks if you would like cornbread the correct answer should be yes please! Don't judge a book by it's cover. When I went here I was expecting a more full service restaurant. Instead it looks like a fast foodish place, it's an "order and come get when your number is called" and sit where you want. The food was excellent. Ribs were tender. Meat fell right off the bones. Pulled chicken and pork delicious. I loved the corn bread. Actually bought more to take home. Their creamy corn and potato salad sides were great. I was disappointed with the brisket. It was a bit dry and tough. The sauces were good. #5 was my favorite. Dark molasses. 2 people cost $35 but I feel it was well worth it and would definitely go back. I was looking for a place to cater a backyard barbeque I recently hosted. Through some simple research I was able to find Whole Hog Cafe. They had exactly what I was looking for, bulk orders of meat and side dishes. It could not have been easier to place my order and simply select what I needed. I received great help from the Manager Jason as well as General Mgr. Hedy. Both of them were extremely helpful with helping me determine my order and then picking it up. Food was hot and ready when promised, and prepared by a wonderful ans attentive staff. Absolutely delicious barbeque. Moist and tender meats with just the right amount of smoke infused for fantastic flavor. I tried all of the meats, pork, chicken and brosket, none will disappoint. My first visit. They say they are award winning but I wasn't overly impressed with the food or the setting. It's "order for yourself" style like a fast food restaurant, there's no bar (it's BYOB, which can be good), and there's no live entertainment. I ordered the pulled pork with 3 sides (one of which was two ribs). The pulled pork was decent (you have a choice of 6 BBQ favorings at the table to adjust the food to taste) but the ribs weren't enjoyable (little meat on the bone and what was there was on the dry and over-done side.) My one dining companion also said the same about his side of ribs and that this was the first time he'd remembered them being that dry. Maybe it was just an off night for the cook. My pulled pork regular size platter had a very good size serving of pork and it was terrific with sauce #3 (spicy). My sides of baked beans and coleslaw were both very good. Went here for the first time and it could not have been better. Highly recommend. Food: My wife and I split the Ultimate Platter which came with good sized portions of brisket, chicken, pork and 4 ribs as well as 3 sides and 2 slices of corn bread. We shared and still took home enough for my lunch the next day. Meats were all succulent and dynamite. Sides were all very good as well. Staff: couldn't have been nicer. It was like we were old friends. We brought a cooler of beer as it was a Saturday night and when we were in line to order, one of the proprietors came over and said ,"why don't you sit down and relax, have a drink and order when you are ready". They were very helpful and patient in helping us order. We ordered and it was mere minutes until our food came out. They also made sure dishes were cleared as we finished and encouraged us to stay a while to watch the ball games that were on the many TVs. Facility: very clean and tidy. We spoke to one of the proprietors who was ex navy and he said he'd do the white glove test when in Navy running mess halls and it's obvious he does same here. I was here for dinner last week with a group of friends and everything was excellent. We ordered several platters and I tried the pulled pork, brisket and ribs. The ribs were among the best I've ever tried...succulent -- fell right off the bone. I'll definitely be back soon to try the chicken and the smoked sausage. My second time here. Very disappointing. The pulled chickenwas fair, though a little dry. They offered many types of sauces, but they were overwhelming the taste of the chicken. The ribs were not good, bordering on unedible. They were entirely too dry and overcooked and slathered with a tomato/sugar/vinegar sauce. This was a take-out order, so I was already home when I discovered the bad news. They may have won awards here in the past, but today's serving would have earned last place. This place has been on my "must try" for a while now. Good BBQ is hard to come by in the Northeast as it usually takes a transplant from down south to bring good finger licking smokey deliciousness to our neck of the woods. The place was very quiet and only had a half dozen tables filled (the place is bigger than you would expect). We wanted to try a good deal of it, so I had gotten the whole hog platter to split with the fiance. We tried the pork, chicken, ribs, brisket, cole slaw, baked beans and cornbread. You order up front and they eventually call your number to pick up your order. Self serve drink stations are nice as you don't have to wait around for a server. Our order came out very quickly. I'm honestly going to say nothing had that wow factor. The ribs were probably my favorite. They had a nice smoke ring and had a nice flavor to them. The brisket was underwhelming. The pork was good and the chicken was an afterthought. The baked beans were surprisingly good and the fiance thought the cole slaw was okay. I thought the cornbread was actually really good, so it had a nice finish to the meal. You get an assortment of BBQ sauce to choose from. I like the spicy variety and went with #3 and didn't really try anything else. It was a damn good BBQ sauce. The bus boys were on the spot and were clearing plates pretty quickly for us. Overall, this isn't anything to write home about. The meat was a little too dry, but had decent flavor. The decor is appropriate and the place is very clean (as was the bathroom). It doesn't have much on Fette Sau or Percy Street in Philly, but is probably on par with Famous Daves. That isn't a bad thing, but not something I would find myself actively pursuing when I'm in the mood for BBQ. Oh, the place is BYOB. So make sure you bring beer. I ordered the hog platter, which is a sampler of ribs, pulled pork, pulled chicken, and brisket. I fully understand that BBQ is not cooked to order, but our food was pretty bad. Maybe it was because it was late, but all of the food was cold. I'm not the kind of person that needs food to be piping hot to be happy, so take that for what it is worth. The ribs and chicken were very dry. I tried to salvage them with the sauces on the table, but it was like eating beef jerky that was well past due. The brisket was cut very thin, likely done with a deli slicer. It seems as if it was sitting in jus on the line, because it didn't have that real BBQ brisket texture. It tasted okay though. The pork was tasty and moist. The sides were okay, but nothing special. The potato salad was like a cold baked potato, with a sour cream base with chives. The baked beans were good. The cheesy corn tasted like crappy canned corn that had cheese wiz dumped on it and stirred up. The staff was friendly, and the dining room was clean. Late lunch that was less than my expectations. I am from the South, and raised on barbeque. After an acute craving for some delicious smoked meat, we decided to give the Whole Hog Cafe a try. I ordered The Hog Platter, and my wife chose The Hog Fries. The theme throughout the meal was lukewarm. The only food that was of the correct temperature were the fries, which were very tasty. I had a side order that I thoroughly enjoyed. However, my wife's order included ranch and cheese, which she found the cheese sauce to be rather spicy. Consistent with nacho cheese. The ribs and pulled pork on my platter were tender, and lean. The brisket was rather salty. The baked beans were a tad spicy, but very overpowered with onion. The cornbread was very good, with a touch of sweetness. However, the edges were a bit dry. All and all I left with a full stomach, but we wont be rushing back for another meal. read more

For the price, the portion size was good (got the Jumbo sandwich, which I guess was about 6-7ozs not sure how big the regular size is, maybe a 1/4 lb?). The pork was a bit dry and cold, but I would get it again. Free refills with the drinks. My gf got the pulled pork too and cornbread, both of which she found to be a bit dry (she didn't even finish the cornbread). Maybe they were having a off-day?
