This bagel was too damn good. I could tell that I got there after a huge lunch rush the guy working needed a minute to clean up a bit. Still so friendly and I got my bagel in less than 5 mins. Love the breakfast bagel sandwiches here. We always get sesame bagels, toasted, with 2 fried eggs and cheddar cheese. They do such a nice job cooking the eggs. Also appreciate that they offer 3 different coffee roasts. Staff is courteous and everything is very covid safe! My only complaint is that the only sweet cream cheeses are chocolate chip and blueberry. I get blueberry for a bagel with cream cheese but wish there was a honey-walnut style option too. Be sure to plan/call ahead if it's a holiday weekend. Rolled up one time and had to get plain bagels because they were out of literally everything else. Fortunately the plain bagels are good but lesson learned. read more

Definitely more of a grab-and-go place vs a sit down and soak up the morning smells and views place. I walked in on a Saturday around 10am and there wasn't a line to speak of...there were a handful of folks waiting for their orders, but no snake of a queue to get up to the front. They have a lot of options and a lot of signs around the cashier with even more options/specials, so it's a lot to take in. Take a menu and do a quick scan for the hand written stuff and then move out of line to really digest it all. I wasn't in the mood to girls gone wild it and make some bagel concoction with a bunch of different fixins so I just went for one of their signature breakfast bagels, the #2 from Big Al's favorites, which was a jalapeño cheddar bagel (my fave three words when it comes to bfast prob), hickory smoked bacon, egg, and TX loaded cream cheese. It was $7.50 but now that I'm looking at the menu (so I could get the description right), I noticed if I had designed my own with exactly the same ingredients it would have only been $5.50. I was duped! Not sure if they pack more in for the signature bagel sandwiches, but it didn't feel like it was spilling out every which way to make me stop and appreciate its heftiness. It was a fine bfast sandwich...the cream cheese did all the heavy lifting and sometimes you just need that. I also ordered the pickle from Pickle House for $1.25 (or $1.75, can't recall). I think I kind of would have liked that IN my bagel sandwich! Does that make me a freak? If so, let me get my freak on! Great alternative to chips if you're looking for a crunch. Absolute BEST bagels in Austin! This place has literally been my go-to place for well over a decade, back when there was only the south location. They are literally the closest you'll get to NY bagels without a plane ticket. Hell, over been to NY many times and I STILL will choose this place over many up there. I've tried just about every one they have but my favorite is the everything bagel. It is so delicious, especially toasted with their angry Texas cream cheese. I am beyond thrilled that there is now a North location for Wholy Bagel. We are entirely bagel snobs at my house. My hubby is from the NE and my children are obsessed with "real" NY bagels. These bagels are legit. The real deal. They are boiled and not just bread in a bagel shape. Chewy outside layer, fluffy inside layer. As for toasted or not, that is your choice. If you're a fan of a schmear, try the Texas loaded. Add it to a salt bagel for what we call "the baked potato bagel." The staff here is so hardworking and the atmosphere is just what you'd expect from a legit bagel shop. PS - The "bakers" dozen here is a "Texan dozen" which means 12=14. These bagels are not even close to what you'd get in New York and lack in flavor. The woman working the cashier was not friendly and had her AirPods in the whole time when I ordered. When I got home I realized she must have not heard me correctly as my order was wrong and the flavors I ordered were mixed up. $40 for a dozen bagels and two shmears is pretty pricey though so I can't recommend this place. read more

Came to Wholy Bagel because someone recommended me this place for bagel. I ordered nova lox. Choice of bagel, cream cheese, tomatoes, red onion and capers. The gentleman asked if I wanted to be toasted and I said yes. Check-in through yelp and you'll receive a free cup of coffee. Coffee was not good and the temperature was not even hot. I like what they are doing at Wholy Bagel. This is a local shop with New Jersey roots, baking bagels fresh daily, mixing cream cheese spreads, and putting together traditional and not-so traditional deli sandwiches on bagels. Store was clean. Counter service ordering and pick up of food was friendly, courteous and efficient. While the shop is small, there are several tables and a counter along the window for dining in. Open every day of the week at 7, this is a great option from which to pick up a "Texas dozen" (14) bagels and spread to take to the office or your weekend gathering. We particularly enjoyed the Fish Fest that they had at this location on a recent Sunday where they had flown in whole smoked fish from ACME Smoked Fish of Brooklyn, NY. The smoked fish options for adding to bagels or to package and take home were top quality and delicious. Pretty good bagels, but nowhere near the ones I've had in NYC. Stopped here for a quick breakfast. Service was quick and friendly, and prices were reasonable. I had a rye bagel with strawberry cream cheese. Not the best selection on my part: the salty rye didn't go well with the sweet strawberry cream cheese. The bagel itself was rather small, and they were also a bit skimpy on the cream cheese. Despite being toasted, the outside of the bagel was not crispy enough. The inside was nice and chewy though. I was happy to finally try this new bagel spot on Far West today. If you've read any of my more recent articles, you'd know I'm on a crazy bagel kick. The toastier and savory - the better. And Wholy Bagel satisfied that bagel craving today. You'd think I'd be a cream cheese fanatic, but I actually prefer my bagel with a normal distribution of cream cheese. When it's layered with so much that you can't even taste the bagel to compliment the cream cheese, I'm not a fan. The ratio of cream cheese to bagel could have been a little more even. Their cinnamon bagel was yummy and seemed freshly baked. They also have a wide variety of bagel sandwiches and a lot of cream cheese options! Came three weeks after the much anticipated opening of Wholy Bagel. So happy to have them here as Biderman's bagel game was decidedly weak. As far as the bagels themselves go, I think they're some of the best! (... for Austin.) IMO, they're still as good as actual New York or Florida bagels. The outsides were delightfully chewy as they should have been, but the crumb (the bready insides of the bagel) still had a texture of baked bread rather than a more chewy bagel. To try the base bagel we shared an egg bagel which I felt lacked that deep eggy and slightly sweet flavor. J and I shared the #4 (everything bagel, scrambled egg, nova lox, onion and cream cheese) and the more traditional bagel and lox. She very much liked her sandwich (#4). The bagel and lox was similarly good. A bit odd that serving it open costs more (ostensibly for double the lox although I don't know how you'd put less lox on it.) They have a few tables and chairs but the store is small. Chairs to seat twelve IIRC and a few more people standing. Definitely not a place inviting you to stay and have a meal there. In fact, our "for here" order was wrapped to go. I'm super happy that Wholy Bagel is finally in NW Austin. read more

This is small place. It does smell amazing when you walk in. There is always a line, so I was excited to try the bagels. Got the everything bagel. The bagel was flat, but that is okay. Not always about the looks. I tasted the bagel, it was dry. No chewy, just dry. I was sad. For the price, there are better bagel shops in town. This place is at corner of building that contains other businesses. Parking is very tight, if you have bigger than medium size car, it is c almost impossible to fit. I just tried this place after having it on my list for a while, and I was very happy to be able to get a very good bagel and very good cream cheese! My wife got the blueberry bagel with blueberry cream cheese, and the first thing worth noting is the THICK layer of cream cheese included - it's very generous, and you likely won't be hungry afterwards. And I really liked the bagel and the cream cheese both having a mild fruity sweetness. I did also try the egg sandwich, an everything bagel with egg and pepperjack cheese, and while that was a bit less impressive since only a single egg and single cheese vs the thickness of the bagel doesn't quite work, perhaps it would have been better if i had also added meat. That being said, the flavors were still definitely there and the bagel being a bit more than i expected of the breakfast sandwich flavor isn't as much of a problem when their bagels are so tasty. As far as options, there are a ton of sweet and savory options of both bagels and cream cheeses, I'm going to have to go back! read more

NJ/NY native here, wanted to try a new bagel place in Austin. I ordered my usual and leaving Wholy Bagel, my jaw hurts because the bagel was so tough. The bagel was also not anywhere close to the size of a NY bagel. After eating a few bites I also realized there was pepper on the eggs which I didn't like. At any NJ/NY bagel shop they always ask if you want salt and pepper. The only positive was the bacon tasted good. I don't like when businesses make claims to be NY style when it's really not. I don't think this is the best bagel you're going to get in Austin and definitely not anywhere close to NY. I'll continue my search elsewhere. read more

I was super excited to give a local business a try, especially considering their huge variety of bagel and cream cheese varieties. Unlike the big chain bagel places, Wholly Bagel doesn't seem to be set up to take home a bunch of bagels and a side of cream cheese -- as their a la carte pricing represents. The price was well over double that of a chain, which I don't mind paying for quality. However, the bagels themselves were dense and while probably fresh, were by no means hot. Combine that with a veggie cream cheese that was overwhelmed by onion flavor and it wasn't a good value -- precisely because it didn't taste great. Wish I could say Wholy Bagel blew me away but it was just ok. The bagel was decent and the service was good but the coffee tasted burned. I walked in and my clean freak radar went off. I wanted to fix the chairs, address the papers on the counter, and organize the coffee area. The area wasn't dirty but it was messy. I tried to remember that coming in at 9:45am that maybe the busy morning crew just came through and they haven't had time to pick up the store. The two ladies behind the counter were constantly moving and very kind. I will try to come back down the road in hopes today was just an off day. read more

Solid 8/10. I come from NJ and had a good time with the flavor of the bagel. Garlic and herbs cream cheese is solid, bacon is crispy but not to the point of disintegrating in your mouth. Toasted bagel had good crispiness while retaining structure. Price to size ratio is a bit disproportionate but can confirm it's a good try. Keep up the good work! read more

I've ordered bagels from Wholy Bagel everyday for a week in the summer. They're great and I am usually very satisfied with the bagels and the cream cheese. And they toast them well. I also love their Lox cream cheese. Maybe I'm a bit biased because I had the chance to compare the quality day-to-day for a week. But they're not consistent with the quality of bagels/quantity of cream cheese. Sometimes my bagel would overflow with the cream cheese and other days, I'd hardly be able to taste it. The bagels also sometimes would be near-burnt toasted and sometimes they'd be nearly untoasted on the same order. The coffee also could be better. I was initially excited to find a place in Austin that had sun dried tomato cream cheese as an option, but I have no idea what was wrong with the bagels themselves... I bought two, and ordered them un-toasted since I was about 1/2 an hour from being able to eat, and I hate it when bagels seize up from heating and then cooling too quickly. So imagine my surprise when I got home and both bagels were rock hard and almost inedible. I scraped off the cream cheese and stuck them in the toaster, which loosened them up a tiny bit, but I couldn't even finish one, and it left my jaw aching from the effort of trying to chew. I've never had a "fresh" bagel be that hard. I have no idea what caused that texture, but whatever it was, it's something that should never be done to a bagel. On the plus side, they're generous with the cream cheese and service is friendly, but yeah... Also, I had half of each bagel, so it wasn't just the one. I might try them again in case this was a really off day, but if so, I'm not going to wait until I'm home to try a bite. read more
