I'm a simple guy when it comes to bagels. I like my bagels toasted. I enjoy a good spread. I enjoy friendly service. Nice, clean atmosphere is a plus. And luckily, I get all of that on a consistent basis here at Wholy Bagel. I love that they somehow always seem to recognize me and my young daughter. It makes each visit feel special, and my daughter loves showing off her Wholy Bagel sticker to pretty much everyone after each visit. As for food, I usually stick to the everything bagel (toasted) with their in-house scallion spread. This is my go to, and it's superb here! I also like their breakfast bagels, which I usually go with egg, Taylor ham, and cheddar on their jalapeño cheddar bagel. It's really as delicious as it sounds! The coffee leaves a bit to be desired, but I come for the bagels. Plus, there's a Starbucks next door if you're looking for coffee. All in all, I'm thrilled to have a Wholy Bagel in the neighborhood. It's easily one of of my favorite local joints in the Far West area! read more

Great bagels. Really. Like the ones we used to get in Brooklyn. Nice crunch nice chew. The Cowboy cream cheese or whatever it is called is awesome too. Can't keep it at the house though because i can't stay out of it. Highly recommend. All the good reviews are because of how amazing this place used to be. The customer service is awful. You will probably need to call at least 56 times before someone picks it up. Next they'll say, Wholly Bagel. Can you please hold? And you never hear from them. You cannot do a takeout on yelp. If you get there you have to be in line to order. If you have all the Time in the world, this breakfast place is not bad because of the good food but otherwise this place is going south. For many days in a row you will not find cucumbers. They don't tell you that on the phone. You order and then they go sorry we didn't have cucumbers today. What good a bagel without cucumbers? Only one person here, Kim, is just amazing at customer service. Others are very snobbish. read more

We tried Wholy Bagel for the first time yesterday morning. The space is bright and open and even though we didn't see anyone come out on the floor, everything was pretty clean. Staff was truly friendly and kind--they have some great folks working there. We ordered a plain bagel with a side of plain cream cheese (for the kiddo), spinach/asiago with scallion cream cheese and tomatoes, and a sesame breakfast bagel with eggs, taylor ham, and American cheese. Everything was...fine. We had no complaints but we weren't super impressed. Put it this way: If you're craving a bagel and got one here, you wouldn't be unhappy; if you're from a bagel capitol (e.g. NYC) like us and got a bagel here, you would be unsatisfied. 3.5 stars. The bagels at Nervous Charlie's are better, but the atmosphere is nicer here IOHO. We might be back sometime in the future, but probably not soon. read more

I was disappointed in my Acme bagel--lox, cream cheese, fixings, everything bagel. It didn't come together as a breakfast bagel, too salty and the bagel was gummy. Undercooked? When I got home, my bagel with sausage and cheese and NO EGG had egg on it. I went back, explained that I had an egg allergy, and they were courteous, apologetic, and made me a new sandwich. Pastrami was dry and bagels were rubbery. I was excited to try this place initially because I love a good bagel. However, after having to wait 15 minutes and tasting the quality of bagels, it didn't seem worth it. May have been better going at a slower time perhaps? I'll stick to big city bagels. read more

To start with the positives the staff is very nice, the facility is fresh and there is a fair amount of options. Now on to some areas of improvement; the service is quite slow, the bagels are thin and did not taste very fresh, the spread was a bit thin for my taste and they didn't seem to have avocado on the menu. I will say that my mom's bagel sandwich looked pretty good. I'm not really one for bagel sandwiches but if you are, this place might be on interest to you. They have one person at the register, making sandwiches... not sanitary (especially during a pandemic!) and slows the whole line to a halt. Then no order what so ever if you ordered ahead. Note to manager: have a serrated sandwich line. So those who just want to pick up a dozen bagels can speed through. Also, staff needs training. During a pandemic an employee asked a random customer waiting on line to grab a container of cream cheese out of the customer facing refrigerated kiosk. Really? Without exaggeration, I've gone every day for breakfast for a few months now. It's become a part of my morning routine, and Monday's (when they are closed) I often drive all the way to the South location, just so I don't have to miss my bagel. It's really good. Best bagel on this side of the Mississippi without question. Beyond the bagel, it's pretty easy to make eggs and bacon taste basic. They do a fantastic job, and have an assortment of awesome baked goods from Sweet Sam's out of The Bronx. This place is a real taste of NYC every day, we are so thankful for Wholy Bagel, and we tell literally everybody about it, everywhere we go. Same great bagels, awesome new north location! Accidentally found this place after a meeting on Far West, and just in time for lunch with my kids! My everything bagel with schmear was delicious! My kids enjoyed theirs, too. There was a nice area to sit and eat, and best of all, the soundtrack was Rock of the Eighties Lunch - Poison, Motley Crüe, and Van Halen! An authentic NY bagel place in Austin! Convenient location, outdoor seating, and best of all, the bagels are the best! The coffee on several occasions has been hit or miss. The coffee, baaaaad -- just caf or decaf and they don't even have real creamer, just powdered stuff and tiny plastic pods of half 'n half that never go bad. It's hard to enjoy a bagel without its sidekick - a good cup of coffee, so plan to hike next door to Starbucks for a passable cup. Second, I don't understand why this place closes at 3!!!!!! I've been going to Wholy Bagel pretty much every weekend for the past 5 years - these are, without a doubt, the best bagels in Austin (honestly, they're the best bagels I've ever had including ones in New York, but that's just me). Nicole, the owner, and her entire staff make you feel right at home and make sure your bagel is the best one you've ever had. Every single time I go to Wholy Bagel I say "this is the best one I've had yet". It's on my top 5 favorite Austin restaurants list, and I recommend it to all of my local friends and those who visit. I love this place. I'm leaving Austin after 8.5 years and Wholy Bagel has been a key part of my love for this city - it's felt like I've been in a long term relationship and now we're breaking up. Terrible. 1. The bagels were day old, at least, and tasted hard and chewy. Not fresh at all. 2. The guy "prepping" behind the counter was not using gloves at all. When I inquired about it he was annoyed and told me they had some permit allowing them not to use gloves. I've never heard of such a thing. Use gloves! Particularly when you're visibly preparing someone's food in front of them. 3. The surface area where the bagels were being prepped was a mess. There was no wipe down in between preparing each sandwich or meal. I tasted several other ingredients I wish I hadn't when I ate my plain toasted with butter. This place is soooo good!! I was a little worried about them being a success since the location is kinda a pain to get to depending on where coming/going and the parking lot SUCK. But I'm so happy they are here and seem to be doing well. They are always so friendly over the phone when I call to place my order and always have it ready for me within minutes of showing up.
