This spot is super popular and super BUSY! Excellent location, in the heart of Nantucket surrounded by numerous local shops and boutiques. It was just a few doors from my hotel, and I came here a lot! Absolutely love the vibes!! Casual, yet nice. It was my go-to to chill in the mornings and early afternoons. Great place to grab pastries, sandwiches, etc. Only downside is that there aren't a lot of tables, and the place easily fills up, but they do have takeout. Their sandwiches are especially good because of their sourdough bread! I also like their cowboy cookies, oatmeal raisin cookies (even tho I'm not typically a fan of oatmeal raisin), and pumpkin muffins. Definitely came here for the sourdough bread and it did not disappoint. The bread was the main character. I wasn't a fan of the egg, seemed microwaved. I'd go back in a heart beat for the bread. We stopped by after walking past many times before, and I'm glad to say that we did! It's a very Nancy Meyers-esque cafe nestled in the heart of downtown Nantucket, turning out homemade pastries, cakes, coffees, teas and more. It was a welcome respite after a long afternoon shopping and strolling around. We visited later on the afternoon, which is a good move since it seems like this spot can get pretty hectic during peak hours. Since we had already eaten lunch, we didn't get any snacks (although the Cowboy Cookie looked SO good) and everything was clean and well organized in a glass case. I also snagged a menu for next time- the paninis and coldcut deli sandwiches looked yummy, too (the ABC Panini with apple slices sounded scrummy). Service was curt but efficient, I think again, we visited around the end of the day, so that may have had something to do with it. Nonetheless, my cold brew was delicious and my boyfriend enjoyed his black tea. We sat at a super cute table and people watched everyone going by the picture window - this is a great spot for that! We waited in line for 30 minutes on a Thursday morning and it was well worth the wait! We shared an avocado, egg, & cheese sandwich and blueberry muffin for breakfast -- both were EXCELLENT! The staff were doing a great job of keeping the line moving while still being welcoming and polite. I also enjoyed the best strawberry matcha I've ever had. Not that this place needs more hype but I couldn't help myself. I went back twice in one trip because the breakfast sandwiches were that good. There was a line but it moved pretty quickly and efficiently. Staff was friendly. I also loved the ambiance inside. Was very light & airy but cozy. The coffee was great too! I had an iced latte with sugar free vanilla. Now onto the sandwiches. The first day, I kept it basic with a sausage, egg & cheese. The sourdough bread was incredible and made the sandwich. On day 2 I decided to get the bb sandy which had bacon, egg, cheese, tomato, & sriracha aioli. Okay, this one was incredible!!! Not that the SEC wasn't good, it just wasn't as special. I didn't get a picture of the bb sandy but just trust me. It was perfect. Last note on the sandwiches: they are HUGE. The first day I ate the whole thing and was full for a very long time. Born & Bread is a fabulous bread and breakfast shop to visit on the island. We went twice during our stay in Nantucket. Both times were busy and it took 20-25 minutes between the line and receiving our food. The have a lot of pastries, daily baked breads, sandwiches and coffee. Both times I ordered an ice latte with light vanilla and it's really tasty - a huge cup filled with a ton of ice (the way I like it), espresso and not too much milk. The breakfast sandwiches are delicious. Egg, cheese sandwiches with a super chewy sourdough. We ended up buying 2 sourdough loaves to bring to friends. Best decision! read more

Great food, was very busy and cashier charged me $7.76 for a bag of chips? There was a switch over and then owner was talking to another customer. I hesitated but didn't say anything , went back the next day line out the door. Got to cashier same girl and told her the mistake, asked what chips cost she said, $3.35. Which is still outrageous but we were in Nantucket and it's expensive. I paid cash and they don't give receipts so she just said, sorry. The owner was the one that took over for her, I literally had 1 small bag of chips, either of them should have realized $7.76 is absurd. The food is delicious, but they are way too busy and not paying attention. No offer of refund or any other remedy just sorry? Recommending because we ate there three mornings in a row. While it's true a line forms before 8am, know that it moves quickly. They have a system that works! Wonderful breakfast sandwich all served in sourdough. You can split so you can pick up a yummy muffin. Our favorite sandwich was the BB Sandy... not spicey but terrific favor! They have tables inside and a very small outdoor space. I suggest ordering however and taking to the harbor or your hotel garden. read more

The prices are inflated, as expected, and don't fully meet the value. $38 for a sandwich, two coffees, and a cupcake seems a bit much. Went to Born and Bread for some dessert for after dinner. Really enjoyed the diverse assortment of small treats. Lovely presentation and also delicious. I found the carrot cake to be flavorful, moist and light. My family enjoyed sharing the rest of the treats: brownie, cupcakes and pecan pie. Bread is truly highlighted. There is a line to order. Sometimes, it goes out the door. The line runs along shelves featuring market items. The AVOCADO TOAST is good. I don't' know how to get my big one to move away from the AVOCADO and try something else. Like I don't know, PB&J for one. ICED LATTE is good. HOT CHOCOLATE is great! HOT LATTE is better than the ICED ONE. I don't know why. Maybe because the weather is perfect for it. ICED CHAI LATTE is also very good. The NUTELLA CRUFFIN made us return. I ordered the egg sandwich with cheese and sausage on Sourdough - grilled. The lady at the counter said I got the last piece of sausage for the day - and ya know what - that sandwich could really have used 2 pieces of sausage. I also ordered a large ice tea - it was nearly $20 with tip. It was good, but I live in SF - the land of artisan sourdough bakeries. This sandwich was very good - but nothing spectacular. We came in at 115 pm, they were very busy but seemed understaffed, it took 20 min for my sandwich to be ready. But the wait was worth it. I ordered the honey ham (ham, apple, goat cheese, arugula, honey on sourdough) pressed as a panini. It was exactly what I needed! The ratios of fillings was perfect, the sourdough was so so good, very crispy but not sharp enough to cut up my mouth. I couldn't really taste or find the honey though. This was a spur of the moment breakfast place we stepped in and am so glad we did!! We shared the breakfast egg, bacon and cheese sandwich (we added siracha aioli to it) and it was amazing. The homemade bread is a major star of the show here. The sandwich came out hot and so fresh. Plenty of cheese which we loved, and the bacon was also perfectly cooked. We also got a vanilla iced latte which was pretty good. Our favorite though were our chocolate chip muffin and cookie. Both of these had plentiful chocolate chips and were baked to perfection. Sometimes it's hard to find an above average breakfast spot but I would definitely recommend stopping here. There was a bit of a line but it went pretty fast! These sandwiches are amazing. Bread is what really makes or breaks a sandwich, and their fresh baked sourdough truly makes these sandwiches delicious. I ordered the tuna melt with cheddar instead of swiss and it was incredible - the cheese was perfectly melted, the tuna wasn't fishy or overly covered in mayo, and the tomato was perfectly ripe. Compared to a lot of other lunch spots in town, the sandwiches are also very reasonably priced. This was our go to in the mornings to pick up breakfast and dine back at the loft we rented. There is fine in as well available. Super busy place. The first day we ordered chai tea latte, coffee and two egg and cheese sandwiches. Oh! For dessert lol we ordered the scones, cruffin, and cookies. When we got back to the loft, we found that they gave us two Cuban sandwiches with ham. I don't eat ham, so that was a let down. The dessert was good though. The total was $80 for those items. I would have given this place a 6/5 if not for the attitude of the blond woman with bangs and glasses behind the counter. I asked for a sandwich that is typically a cold cut (honey ham) to be panini pressed because honestly, I'm really surprised it's not on their panini menu. I think the teller forgot the modifier because it came out as a cold cut. When I went to hand it back, the lady was not apologetic and all and looked disappprovingly at her colleague, which turned me off completely. She said, "I think I'll have to remake it," with disdain. I will say, when the sandwich did come out, it was phenomenal - way beyond what I was expecting. Probably in the top five sandwiches I've ever had, and I'm a bit of an admitted foodie.
