The second of the two active / open Wigwam Motels we saw on our Route 66 journey from Chicago to Santa Monica, this one is more nicely maintained than the one in Holbrook, Arizona. BEST STAY OF OUR ROUTE 66 JOURNEY! I booked this night's stay months ahead of time to make sure we got to stay here. From the front desk to the room to the manicured area, stellar stay. Kevin at the front desk checked us in and was a lot of fun. Very personable and helpful. Samir who was also the manager, was helped us with our reservation issues and was there when we checked out. He was amazing, helpful and just a sweetheart. I highly recommend a stay here while out on the the Route 66 roadtrip or just anytime in the San Bernardino area. What a great stay we enjoyed the nostalgia of this location. Pool was available just a tad bit cold for me to get into. AC was available and running well. If you are a light sleeper you may not want to run the AC in the night. Wifi available and code was given to you with your cards. Room service was available and came to our room while we were gone. I appreciated coming to a picked up room. Although I forgot to put a tip in the envelope for housekeeping. I made sure before leaving this morning that tip money made its was into the envelope. It was nice walking around the 20 Tee Pees. Everyone who worked at the wigwam motel was very pleasant. If you want to fill up on ice it will cost you a quarter. If you so happen need change go inside the office they will give you a quarter or two. It was quite we hardly heard any traffic. But early morning there was a load of old classics that came driving thru taking photos. It was nice to see. They have coffee complimentary in office. We are not coffee drinkers so passed on the offer. There is tons of things to buy for moments in office plenty to see. They offer cable and had showtime available as a prime channel. We enjoyed watching a movie or two while we relaxed in the evening. Wigwam motel is a great stay and also our half way point to joshua tree or other locations we travel to. read more

The Wigwam Motel in Rialto was a fun and charming sight to see up close. I drove through the grounds just to get a better look, and the whole place has such a unique and nostalgic feel. The exterior looks well kept, and the wigwam structures are even cooler in person than I expected. It's one of those classic Route 66 landmarks that instantly makes you smile. (1926-2026) I found out that rout 66 goes from Santa Monica to Chicago and that this is #7 of 7 Wigwam Motels along the rout. It's close but still away from home so I phoned them because I drive for a living and can't get online for most of my day. This place is so noisy with the road noise. And the sirens! There is a home behind the wigwam I am staying in (number 15) with loud music. Even the TV can't drown either the road noise or the music out. The wigwam itself is fine, clean. The surrounding area is pretty sketchy. As a single woman traveling, I made sure to bring everything in from my car. Glad I experienced it, but won't be back. read more

I stayed at the Wigwam Motel recently on a family roadtrip and recommend it highly. We've stayed at each of the three remaining Wigwam Motels, and the one in San Bernardino is the most comfortable with the nicest amenities. The others are in Holbrook, AZ and Mammoth Cave, KY. It is a quintessential part of any Rte 66 roadtrip and shouldn't be missed. The room itself is clean and comfortable. It can be a little close quartered, but that's just the nature of sleeping in a wigwam motel. It was suitable for myself and three children under 10. It is a family run business, and I had the privilege of meeting three members of the family. Everyone was very friendly and hospitable. The hotel amenities were very nice. The grounds are well maintained and the buildings have been kept in shape. Each one has a TV and air conditioning. Having the car right outside the room is very convenient when traveling with kids. There is a pool, but it was a little too cold outside to take advantage of it. Photo opportunities around the grounds are plentiful, and there is free coffee and snacks in the office. Check out the gift shop. There's lots of cool souvenirs for Rte 66 travelers and roadside Americana fans. read more

Me and my sugarpie honeybunch stayed here over the weekend and had a truly special time. It felt like we had our own private palace, our home away from home, a little cone shaped sanctuary for two. This is a unique structural advantage of the Wigwam Motel over other motels or hotels - your room is a standalone building that allows for extra privacy and a sense of dominion over your rented domain. Open your little windows for a little cross breeze, sit on your little couch for a little R&R, hug your little sweetie and feel, at last, at peace. Walking out of our wigwam each morning was always pleasantly surreal - the teepees silhouetted against the sunrise made you wake up to the unusual here and now - it's automatic mindfulness guaranteed. Would I recommend it? Um, yeah. Also - the folks at the little front office were nice and had a nice little selection of little coffees, teas, and snacks. My mom wanted to surprise me with a stay here and it was a very fun and pleasant surprise! When I pulled up I got so excited and literally said "We get to stay in a teepee!?!?" We only stayed one night but I wish it could have been longer. Our rooms were small but so cozy. They were very clean. Had many of the original details. No "bells and whistles" like hair dryers or closets but we weren't there for that. We enjoyed the history and charm and uniqueness of it all. We played a board game and watched a movie. The night clerk and day clerk were so accommodating and friendly. The gift shop had some fun and cute souvenirs. Our only bummer was it was too cold to go swimming in the pool so guess what....we are already planning our return trip during warmer weather and the next time we are planning on staying two nights :) read more

I stayed here for one night - and I'm glad that I did! Yes this is a bit offbeat, compared to other lodging places like say, corporate chains. This is a Route 66 must-do, so definitely get your reservations in! I believe for every teepee, they have one queen or king-size bed and one small restroom. Also, there's a TV and a small loveseat and coffee table so there's more than one can think that can fit in one of those things! They do have an outdoor pool but I didn't go there. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Tip: if you're going to make reservations, do it from their website! Be sure to buy some souvenirs in the gift shop. There is absolutely no shortage of Route 66 stuff to buy. You can also buy replicas of the original keychains of your teepee here...not many of these places can do the same! read more

Beautiful Route66 Roadside Attraction. Around 19 wigwams in the lot. Built in 1949. In 2012 was listed on the National Register of Historic places. A must see for Route 66 fans like me! We stayed the night. Wigwam #17! Made reservations thru priceline thinking I'd get a better deal but turned out I'd have shaved $20 had I made reservations directly at the wigwam site! The room was clean. Spartan but clean. Bed couch TV AC mini fridge. Bathroom with a small shower. No free breakfast but there is coffee and protein bars at the office to tide you over. Found this road trip stop while googling Route 66, this is one of the two Wigwam Motel left. The owner/manager was very friendly and welcomed us to walk around the property for photos. They have a small Route 66 themed gift shop and you can buy maps, Route 66 passport, t-shirts, etc. I got the Wigam tent ornament and was thinking to get the old school plastic hotel room keychain too. The items were priced very reasonable, we also bought a book about Route 66, and their price was even $5 cheaper than the book MSRP. Being the hotel is now a historical site, they are not allowed to make many modern-day changes, but they do offer WiFi!! Agreed with other yelpers, this is not a Hilton, this is is a piece of the Route 66 history, and for $100ish a night, it is so worth to re-live the history! read more

Another famous Route 66 icon, the Wigwam motel, was the inspiration behind the Disney movie "Cars" (But in Cars, the tee-pees are replaced with traffic cones.) It's located in San Bernardino. You can't miss it! There's a plaza nearby the motel, so it's relatively easy to collect food, water and drinks at night. I feel like it's kinda fun to walk around, you get to see some vintage cars and some retro signs. And bound point: it's doggie friendly! ($25 for the dog for a night) However, there are a few problems that I noticed: -Shower room is really really small. -Heater in the room worked well throughout the night, but it was loud. -There's an outdoor bar across the street, the music was super loud too. We could hear it probably till they're closed. (Around 2am) Other than that, it's overall clean and cute, the staff was pretty friendly too! read more

My mom grew up just around the corner and we always passed it when we were visiting for holidays (living here in Pismo Beach) Of course I am also a huge fan of the movie cars from Disney. Father's Day couldn't have been so perfect. Check in was easy, stress free and professional. Grounds are beautifully taken care of. The Wigwam Motel is a must see that can be easily recognizable off of the famous Route 66 in San Bernardino. Just a little history about this place, the Wigwam Motel was built by Frank Redford. He actually had built other teepee motels, with this being the 7th location. However, only 3 remain today (this being the only one in California, you can find the other two in Arizona and Kentucky). This location was the last one that Frank Redford built and eventually retired here with his wife with plans to run this motel. Eventually Frank's good friend Paul Young took over the motel after he became ill. However Paul Young passed away and the motel ended up needing renovations due to no one maintaining it. Then in 2003, the Patel family purchased it and put in the money and time to restore it to its former glory in what you see now. There are 19 teepees on the property that are shaped in a semi circle, around plenty of grass (perfect for dogs. Please note that this motel is dog friendly and cost an extra $25 per stay) and a small pool in the center. Although renovations took place, the tiles in the bathroom are original. What is interesting to learn is that there are no electrical plugs found in the bathroom since it was not required for there to be during the 1950's- 1960's when this motel was built. So if you stay here, you wouldn't be able to use a hair dryer in the bathroom but in the main room (where there are outlets). According to one of the employees, this is a common thing people complain about, lol. Another thing to mention is that there are some classic cars in the back that you may see on the property. According to one of the employees, this was actually donated, as it is common to see classic cars at historic Route 66 roadside attractions. It really just adds to the charm of Route 66. My husband, our little girl dog and I decided to make a stop here on a Saturday afternoon last month since we were visiting the IE and thought it would be nice to make this stop on our way home since we have always wanted to. Ever since Disney's movie, Cars, this place has been on my radar (this location is actually credited to being the Cozy Cone Motel). We came a little after 12:30 pm and were just look around and taking photos of the property. Then an employee from housekeeping had told us that the manager just stepped out but will be back. We didn't have any plans to stay in a room (or a teepee) but I appreciated that she informed us in case we were waiting around for the manager. Shortly after, Samir (the manager and possibly family owner?), came back (picking up lunch, lol) and greeted us as he parked next to our car. We told him that we were just taking some photos of the place and he didn't seem bothered by it (assuming it happens often) and did say that he can open up the lobby that has a gift shop if we would like to take a look. So we followed him into the office and I ended up purchasing a cute little magnet (please see my photo). I also got a free postcard, since it was free with Yelp check in (in which I was able to pick from any of the postcards they had in the gift shop). I greatly appreciate how friendly Samir was, especially knowing that we weren't interested in staying overnight (he knew we were from Los Angeles but were just visiting). Definitely a cute place and perfect place to visit and take photos if you are native to this part of California. And definitely worth a visit to the gift shop. read more

Since I was a child and learned of these novelty motels from the history of Route 66, it has always been a destination I've wanted to experience. This place is really quite nice and well maintained, and since each unit is detached, the rooms are quiet with no worries of a lack of hot water for showering. The front office is a Route 66 souvenir shop with a good selection of memorabilia and the owners/managers are pleasant and knowledgeable of the history. We really enjoyed our stay and now seek to stay at the other Wigwam Motels along what remains of Route 66. read more

It's great that motels like the Wigwam are in a new generation of ownership that take pride in preserving the quirky places on Route 66. Very cute place and well maintained. It's also super clean-couldn't find a dust bunny hiding in the corner of the room. Never mind there aren't any corners in the room anyway. The bed in our room was a double bed and was very comfy. The only nit I had was the smell of the cleaning materials used in the room. Yes that's probably the way they smelled back in the heyday, but let's use odor free cleaning products so the room smells fresh not over powering. read more

I really enjoyed my stay at the Wigwam Motel! The gentleman who checked me in was so nice and genuinely seemed to love his job and the history behind the motel and Route 66. The room was immaculately clean and the bed was comfortable. I had a swim in the pool after check in, and it was very clean and refreshing -- the perfect thing after driving all day. When I woke up in the morning I had a chance to check out the rest of the property. The owners clearly take pride in their business. The landscaping was lush and beautiful, and the condition of the buildings looked like they were freshly restored. When I checked out in the morning, I browsed the gift shop, and bought some unique route 66 goodies. I was also offered a freshly brewed cup of coffee by the nice guy in the morning. If it were my property, the only thing I would do is remove the large florescent light fixture in the room, which is super bright and sterile looking. I would replace it with some smaller table and/or floor lamps with warm colored lighting. That would bring out the ambience of these unique rooms.
