Some dishes are 3 styles of pork, and I keep getting his pork jowls: the most buttery, soft pillowy grilled pork I've had in ages. But back to the street food part - it's more the vibe of the place: down-to-earth, 90's pop culture posters and Thai toys, a VHS player showing non-stop clamshell family movies (the other screen shows 90's and noughts' comedies and action movies pointed at the bar end of the kitchen). Sure, Pad Thai and Drunken Noodles, along with your Green, Yellow and Massamun curries abound on the menu, and they're all big portions bursting with flavour, but here's what I go for: The specials. Oh, they've showcased lemongrass fried rice, lard na, clam pancakes, ohhhh... most of the time (and we go almost once a week) these are all I order and I skip the regular menu. And the cocktails! Jerry has a lineup of such unique drinks that I just cycle through the menu, trying a different one each visit. She keeps tweaking the recipes until she's got each a perfect concoction before we even see it on the menu - I keep asking her what she's working on each time I'm there and she fills me in on her latest liquid experiment. Service is great - Nancy and team are all so friendly, they know when to leave you to enjoy and when to stop by and chat. It's a cozy, social place where the wok's always fired up and just makes me smile to be there every time I go with friends or family.

The Tom Yum soup had great deep flavour with the right amount of sourness and both our curries were just as good on the palate with complex flavours. It's located in central Sidney and not far from the ferry landing. The staff were able to get us out order on time and we didn't skip a beat in making the lineup for our ferry home. We had the Phad See Iew noodles, Kow Phad Goong prawn fried rice, and the Peeg Gai Tod marinated chicken wings. Everything was great and the quality stayed throughout our ferry ride! The smell of the food was making people around us on the ferry jealous! :) The restaurant was able to provide us a couple of extra containers to use as plates and some cutlery as well. We will definitely come back here for a dine in experience!

I got there and it was fairly quiet with just two tables occupied. I was taken aback by the staff though. They were not Asian or Thai. I started to wonder if this was a watered-down version of Thai food to suit the local non-spicy palate? The staff was speaking French to a table of customers. Uh-oh. It took a long while before anyone (there were 2 of them front of house) came over to me. During that time, I was contemplating if I should just walk out. So service was indeed spotty. One staff was more helpful than the other. I wanted the pad krapow gai (basil minced chicken), unfortunately they did not have that. So I had the basil chicken which was in slices instead of minced. There is a difference in the dish even though both are basil chicken. I requested for the spice level to be like in Thailand (hot). The food arrived and it was spicy, but not overly spicy like in Thailand. It was ok. You had to order the rice separately and at $2.75 a bowl, it was quite expensive. It was just rice! Even though the restaurant did not have many dine in customers, there were plenty of people calling in to place orders for take out. So I guessed maybe this was the only decent Thai place for the people living in this area? The food was not bad, but it is just not the best Thai food around.

We got there at 7:55, waited a few minutes, and went in only to be told it would be another few minutes. No worries! Only when we went back in 10 minutes later, our order still wasn't ready. We ended up leaving the restaurant with our food at 8:35, a full hour and a half after we placed our order! The friends I was with loved their food, but I personally didn't find it worth the wait. I'd much rather go to Thai basil and get my food in 10 minutes, especially since I know the food is ALWAYS bomb there. I also think the prices are pretty steep for entrées that don't even come with a base. My and my friend each had to order a side of rice, and there's no combo pricing. Overall, a tsawwassen staple that just doesn't do it for me.
