We've driven past Teriyaki Secret for a year. It's tucked into a strip mall near the IGA and the UPS Store, and honestly, we rarely noticed anyone going in. Now we know why. It's a bit of a secret because most of the business seems to be takeout, and the magic is happening in the kitchen, not the dining area. We stopped in during the lunch rush, and it was busy and energetic. If you're in a big hurry or prefer quiet, off-peak hours might be better. But the noise comes from a hardworking kitchen turning out food that's clearly made with care. The husband-and-wife owners know exactly what they're doing. We ordered the chicken yakisoba (non-spicy), which came with steamed rice and a side salad. The portions were generous, and every bite was flavorful and satisfying even without any heat. There are just a few tables up front since most of the space is dedicated to cooking. The owners were kind, attentive, and checked in on us several times despite how busy they were. You can tell they genuinely care about their food and their customers. We're glad we finally discovered this place. Asked how many ounces of beef in the Beef Terriyaki bowl; the response, "we no want to tell it's a secret" then promptly changed to "we no cheap people our portions are good size" all with an attitude. I'm sorry but if that the first place your mind goes to... like mama Doris likes to say "only hurt dogs holler". I wanted to know because I am tracking my macros. Two stars probably generous. Picked up the double portion chicken & beef. No veggies were included like supposed to (they provided a handful of bagged iceberg lettuce & lemon ginger dressing instead) but got an extra fillet of dry white rice under the meat portion to made it look like more. Also a portion of rice by itself. The meat was cooked properly & tasted ok; nothing special. The thin-bodied sauce tasted like soy-heavy (like predominantly plain soy sauce) teriyaki sauce from a food service. I was hanging out at the state park in Blaine. Afterward I got hungry. So I looked up what was nearby and called them on my phone and ordered from the park. By the time I drove over to pick it up my order was ready. The lady who worked there and brought my food to me was very nice and sweet. I got a chicken bowl. Comes with teriyaki chicken, rice and veggies. Also a honeydew flavored bubble tea. I haven't had a bubble tea in years, use to get them all the time. It was delicious. They had lots of flavors to choose from. She gave me a menu to take home and they have lots of other tasty sounding dishes as well. They are only open for pick up orders right now. I wish I could give this place a better rating but it was just disappointing. We had yakisoba chicken, fried rice and spicy bulgogi, along with gyoza. Everything had teriyaki sauce squirted on it after it was cooked and as it was put into the to go box. A lot of sauce. It drowned out all the other flavors, and soaked into the rice. The rice was sticky and flavorful, the veggies were cooked yet still crisp, and the chicken was well seasoned and quality. Coming back from Canada we stopped here after waiting 2 hours at the border crossing. Overall not a bad place to eat for the location. The gyoza and egg rolls had an odd lemon taste. Either they had to much lemongrass in them or the oil they were cooked in had lemons in it. Not sure. The teriyaki and steamed veggies was mediocre the chicken breast was dry so I had to drown it in save to eat it. The boba however was fantastic coconut boba with jelly was fantastic. This business needs denifitely major improvement. we came here from a long drive and when we got there, a bunch of people were waiting for their orders. It took about 10mins for our order to be taken and the lady (i guess the owner) was so rude with the customers and with her gentleman helper. We waited 1 hour to get our order done. Okay, so I read in the Northern Light that Sweet Tangerine was under new management, so I had to try it. But I never write a review after just one dining experience. This is my third time here (I'm actually at the restaurant as I write this), so it's time to post a review. First off, the place is clean, well lit, and most importantly, smells really yummy. Secondly, the friendly owner cooks the food herself which is beautiful, fresh and flavorful. I'm picky about teriyaki, having lived in Japan several years in the early 1980's; this teriyaki is everything it's supposed to be and the serving sizes are very generous (see picture of $7.99 teriyaki lunch). The previous owner didn't really seem to understand Japanese cuisine, but the current owner really does!!! This place is awesome!!! read more

OMG! I'm hooked! Frequently drive up from Ferndale to enjoy this awesome, fresh food. Veronica's fresh, flavorful sauces are so delicious! My favorite is their tempura shrimp! Just had her new orange chicken plate and the new sauce is spot on, not too sweet, but just enough orange flavor! I can't say enough about the sweet owner, Veronica, and Mark! I wanted to love this place. I must have went in on an "off" day, the owner/head chef wasn't working. Service was slow, everyone that came in while we were waiting for our food was offered complimentary soup, we were not. Ordered bubble tea, waited 30 minutes for that and my daughter didn't get hers until after we got our food. After about 40 minutes my daughter got her plate, 5 minutes later I got mine, we had ordered a third to share, as well as for her to take leftovers for her dinner later. We had to ask again for the third plate, as it was forgotten, when it did come, the stir fry veggies were raw and cold. My chicken on my plate was luke warm at best. Spent almost 50.00 bucks, understaffed by inexperienced people I would not eat there again unless the owner/chef is working, but will definitely try again. read more

My wife and I have taken food to go 3 times from The Sweet Tangerine. I got the Yakisoba once and then the Teriyaki Chicken twice. My wife got the Teriyaki Chicken all three times. The food is delicious, especially the Teriyaki Chicken. However, $8.99 for a meal at a hole-in-the-wall joint is a bit pricey for me. That's about what I'd expect to pay at a restaurant. Hana's Teriyaki in Bellingham has the same meal which tastes about as good and has more food for $7.99 per plate. We have discontinued going to The Sweet Tangerine due to prices being too high. So, if you're okay with paying almost $20.00 after tax, not including tip, for a take out meal for two, at a basically fast food joint, go for it. You will enjoy the food but it will hurt your pocket book. We would be regulars at The Sweet Tangerine if they lowered their prices to a more reasonable $7.99 per plate but if they stay at the ridiculously high price of $8.99 we will have to continue eating at Hana's Teriyaki. read more

I wrote a 5 star review on this place quite awhile ago, but today I'm reducing it by 3 stars. I went in to order their $9.00 lunch special but changed my mind when I saw the new lady, who seems to be running the place, put the same special, for someone else, under the warming light and realized by looking at it that it no longer bares much resemblance at all to the picture on the menu. I'm not kidding when I say it was about 1/3rd the size it used to be, and it really wasn't that large before. What I saw was maybe 1/2 - 2/3 cup of cooked rice, maybe 3 ounces of grilled chicken (apparently cut nearly to shreds to cover the meager rice) 1/2 cup of salad and two small deep fried gyoza - pathetic for $9.00. I didn't give one star because I didn't taste it - who knows, might've been a tasty little sample, but it was no meal. I'm assuming what I saw was the special, not a half portion for two folks splitting the entrée, because there were definitely two gyoza on the plate. Message to owner: If this was a strange fluke, post a picture of your current $9.00 special with an explanation to clear this up - I'll come back, dine and re-review. If you stand by what I saw, change the photo posted on the stand outside the restaurant - currently deceptive advertising. read more

I love the delicious online menu so I can take my time deciding which items we want for dinner, calling in ahead of time and having my husband pick it up and watching Veronica pour on her secret sauce of our choice. Excellent food and great, fair prices. You can taste the difference in the food compared to other places because this food is FRESH. The only freezer they have is tiny and to keep the product for making bubble tea. Also, the Teriyaki sauce is made fresh daily and it's the best I've had in Whatcom County. The chicken is my personal favorite and love the fresh, grilled taste. Keep up the good work and if you want to open another store, I'd love to be involved!I read the review of Carole and utterly disappointed. Excellent food, big portions, beautiful presentation, depth of flavors is amazing! The owner/chef is very kind and accommodating. I love the teri chicken and tofu plate. The teriyaki sauce is so scrumptious, I request extra on the side. Her spice levels are 1-5, with 5 being about a 10 at other places. So, 4 works well for me because I like it spicy! The plates are served with rice, and vegetables that are cooked to perfection - cabbage, broccoli, carrots, yum! I'm actually getting the munchies while writing this O_o My sweetie loves the pho and I understand why. It's the most amazing pho I've ever tasted, very rich flavors. He orders it with double meat, and has enough for 2 meals. The meals are cooked fresh when ordered, so don't expect to be served quickly. Great food takes time to prepare. Plan to spend 20ish minutes waiting for your meal, depending on how busy they are, or call ahead. I highly recommend this delicious eatery :) read more
