A Thai restaurant in Tsawwassen. How legit could it be? I decided to give it a try as I just wanted Asian spicy food, and I did not want to drive all the way to Vancouver for it as I was already in this area. I got there and it was fairly quiet with just two tables occupied. I was taken aback by the staff though. They were not Asian or Thai. I started to wonder if this was a watered-down version of Thai food to suit the local non-spicy palate? The staff was speaking French to a table of customers. Uh-oh. It took a long while before anyone (there were 2 of them front of house) came over to me. During that time, I was contemplating if I should just walk out. So service was indeed spotty. One staff was more helpful than the other. I wanted the pad krapow gai (basil minced chicken), unfortunately they did not have that. So I had the basil chicken which was in slices instead of minced. There is a difference in the dish even though both are basil chicken. I requested for the spice level to be like in Thailand (hot). The food arrived and it was spicy, but not overly spicy like in Thailand. It was ok. You had to order the rice separately and at $2.75 a bowl, it was quite expensive. It was just rice! Even though the restaurant did not have many dine in customers, there were plenty of people calling in to place orders for take out. So I guessed maybe this was the only decent Thai place for the people living in this area? The food was not bad, but it is just not the best Thai food around. read more

I love supporting local family restaurants, but I can't get behind somewhere that has no time management whatsoever. We ordered at 7:05 on the road and told our food would be ready for 8 (which is nearly an hour!). We only ordered 3 entrees and 1 order of spring rolls. We got there at 7:55, waited a few minutes, and went in only to be told it would be another few minutes. No worries! Only when we went back in 10 minutes later, our order still wasn't ready. We ended up leaving the restaurant with our food at 8:35, a full hour and a half after we placed our order! The friends I was with loved their food, but I personally didn't find it worth the wait. I'd much rather go to Thai basil and get my food in 10 minutes, especially since I know the food is ALWAYS bomb there. I also think the prices are pretty steep for entrées that don't even come with a base. My and my friend each had to order a side of rice, and there's no combo pricing. Shameful service ...I don't mind waiting 30 mins for a take out order but a fellow diner waited over 1.5 hours. He had called the day before to arrange a timely pick up as he had company and he still had to wait. Very sad. To make it worse, the staff didn't realise I was seated in the corner waiting for my take out and were not professional about his experience. "It was only an hour he waited." Shameful. Been ordering from them during this covid19 pandemic, as someone who use to stay in Thailand their foods reminds me of my favourite padthai and somtam which is really good, though for some reason theirs just a bit of original taste which I normally have in Thailand, and they normally ask how spicy i want my somtam I always say 10/10 but still not that spicy. I ordered on Mother's day and because I know how slammed this place gets with orders, I ordered at 3pm asking for my order to be ready for 6:30 which they said they could do. I arrived at 6:20 figuring I would still have to wait until 6:30. It wasn't until 7:15 that I received our order. Meanwhile several people had come in, picked up and left in that time frame. I kept checking and was told I am so sorry, then around 7:10 when I checked again, I was told they were just making the noodle portion of my order. Just making??? I am really not sure how they prioritize orders here, but definitely not how they are called in. Its just the luck of the draw it seems. Moral of the story, don't think by ordering early your going to get your food on time. On a good note, the food was and is always delicious! read more

I found myself in the Tsawwassen area and hungry for a lunch meal. White Spot caught my eyes but I prefer independent restaurants over chains, so decided to walk by to seek alternatives. Across the street, I found Thai Isaam, a small establishment. They were relatively busy, which sass a good sign. I ordered the stir fried eggplant dish and added chicken. I also ordered a bowl of coconut rice to go along with the eggplant. The ingredients in the dish were very fresh; the eggplant, the peppers, the onions. It was a flavorful combination and I finished every morsel. The rice was a bit mushy but the coconut flavour came through. And the rice helped to soak up the delicious sauce from the eggplant dish. * Odd Thai * The old 56th St. Bakery & Cafe (http://www.yelp.ca/biz/56th-st-bakery-and-cafe-ltd-delta) is no more. It has new owners and is now called Siam Cafe & Bakery. The selection was an odd mix of the old offerings from the old bakery, many of which were wrapped in saran wrap in the display case - something that always scares me off of baked products in a bakery. So I skipped the baked products entirely. They did not look good at all. Instead I ordered from the Thai part of the menu. I had the basil beef. It was priced rather high (as were all the Thai dishes) at $10.95 at lunch time. That includes just the dish. No rice, no appetizer, nothing. Just a small lunch sized portion of basil beef. Very out of whack on the pricing. That could have been ok if it had really high quality and skill. Sadly it didn't. It was a Westernized version of Thai food with a heavy dose of bell peppers instead of Thai chilli. The basil was also not Thai basil. Basically the dish was fairly typical of a food court quality "Thai" food but served in a bakery setting and charged as if it was a high quality Thai restaurant. My constant dining partner and I have come here several times, always to eat in. The service is always quick and the waitresses have been very friendly! The food is good and the peanut sauce doesn't make me have a reaction (I have a slight dairy intolerance). I also have a gluten intolerance and I am in love with all the rice noodle dishes. We always get the satay to share, but the spring rolls left something to be desired (for us, at least). Come eat here! I was just vistting Tsawwassen for my business and wanted to have a lunch somewhere close to the mall. Since I have never been to Tsawwassen, I used the yelp to find any decent restaurants nearby. I decided to try Bistro Peekaboo but they were closed. I just decided to go anywhere close by. The skeptical reviews here made me feel bit worrisome about choosing the place, but I decided to find it out by myself as sometimes reviews are not true. Upon arriving the restaurant, I felt that the place has a calm comfortable quiet peaceful atmospehere. As for the interior itself, they were very clean and well decorated. There were many decos of Thailand that gave tropical feeling. The server greeted us and lead to a table right away. We ordered two bowls of jasmine rice + green curry with prawn + egg plant with prawn. Unlike the reviews here, the first dish, eggplant with prawns, came out in about 10 minutes! Then came the green curry about eight minutes after. In terms of the taste of food, it exceeded my expectation. It was very delicious. Ive been to many famous Thai restaurants in Vancouver, such as Maenam, Pink Elephant, Sala Thai, Taste of Thai and the Talay Thai. So I do know what good Thai food taste like and I think I somewhat have a high standard. Yet, it was actually better than some of above mentioned famous Thai restaurants. Eggplants were cooked just right and tasted very fresh. Prawns were not rubbery at all and they were full of flavour. Rice was cooked fine and curry tasted really nice, with rich flavour. Mind you, they were spicy although we ordered medium spicyness --but in a good way and was warned by the server earlier. I only had good things during my visit. Water was filled in promptly and the server was very friendly. After eating here, I felt very sad that certain restaurants in yelp is abused with unfair reviews. Personally, I belive that this restaurant defnitely deserve more than the three star ratings in the Yelp. It is really unfortunate that biased reviews here will discourage the other tourist like me from trying the good food. If you are hesitant in trying the restaurant just because of the rating in the yelp, I can tell you very confidently that you will not regret eating here at all. The food is absolutely amazing, but the service never fails to disappoint. They primarily get take out orders which is evident by the fact that the restaurant is always empty. I wouldn't bother dining in because they prioritize the take out orders and you'll be waiting a while for a meal. If you live in the Tsawwassen area, then you've most likely eaten here and know that this is one of the very few restaurant options that aren't fast food. I've both dined in and ordered take out from here and my experiences have all been about the same. One thing to note is that their portions are very large, so it's great if you're sharing a dish. But I usually get the chicken pad thai for myself and keep half of it for leftovers. Their pineapple fried rice is also an Issabelle and customer favourite. Would definitely recommend getting that and mixing the red curry in. Yum! When I've dined in, the service is a little flaky, but I think it has to do with being under-staffed. Whenever I've come in they usually have 1 or 2 people serving the whole restaurant. While it's a small restaurant, it can get pretty busy in the evenings and it tends to leave the servers running around. If you're around the area and craving some westernized Thai food, check this place out. read more

Terrible service Phoned in my order this past tuesday and got through at 4:32 and placed my order and the girl said no problem for 5:20.I got there at 5:20.The server advised it would be up soon and 5 people picked up their order while i was there and I never got my order till 6pm. Perfect place for my sister and I to take my 85 year old mom on a Saturday afternoon. The front door was wide open to let the sunshine in, and it set a welcoming tone. Easy parking right out front in a strip mall layout. Quick acknowledgement from young lady who welcomed us to sit by the window at a nice large table. Loved how there wasn't any music playing as it's always frustrating when you go to a place to chat and visit, and you have to raise your voice. Or, with people with hearing impairments, they lose half the conversation. Decor was modern and bright, and notably very clean, with lovely dark wooden tables and very comfy chairs. We knew right away this was going to be an enjoyable lunch for the three of us. There was ample food and we shared prawn pad thai, spring rolls, and chicken satay. All tasty, hot and not too spicy. Very happy with the food. Servers were very attentive and really friendly and efficient. Very happy experience. Word has it my mom's going to take my 87 year old dad there soon! read more

My husband and i moved to Tsawwassen two months ago. while there are fewer restaurant choices than Vancouver, we have gradually been trying a few of the local restaurants in Tsawwassen. Last night we thought we would give the only Thai restaurant a try. a few of the reviews said the food was good but they are short staffed and there were long waits. the restaurants voice mail suggested they could only do takeout and to expect long waits to get that. we did phone ahead but got voice mail so we drove there. the restaurant was virtually empty but the phone was ringing off the hook. they most certainly have a staffing issue but when we asked if we could eat it, we were told most certainly please sit. we ordered right away and really didnt have to wait very long (10-15 minutes). it was a rainy wednesday night. we chatted with a few people who were waiting for their takeout and said it was well worth the wait. we ordered satay chicken as an appetizer. the homemade satay sauce was delicious but needed stirring. then we ordered red curry chicken which was delicious and fresh veggies and just the right amount of red curry sauce. i would have that again. the pad thai with shrimp, a standard noodle dish at any Thai restaurant was a very generous portion and unlike most other pad thai's the shrimp were huge. we had enough to take home for lunch today. highly recommend. we'll be back! read more

Absolutely fantastic Thai food. It meets or beats any Thai food I have had and that includes the restaurants in Thailand. The one complaint you may hear is the wait times, and slow service. This I have witnessed is due to the line of people waiting to eat here. I was there on a Tuesday night and the restaurant was completely packed. The phone was ringing off the wall and the poor Owner and Chef were run off their feet. I ended up placing an order for take-out as I knew eating in would be a long process. If you are accepting of waiting and chilling a while for your food, you will be rewarded by authentic, fresh and extraordinary Thai dishes. read more

Absolutely terrible service! We called in our order for take out at 5:00pm and asked for it to be ready at 7:00pm (knowing they are usually slow). I showed up at 7:00pm and waited until 7:45pm before finally giving up after being told 3 different times our order would be ready in 15 minutes. We always come here when we play softball, from Maple Ridge. Love their food! Their food is better than any of our choices. All their curries are fresh and delicious. Our friends enjoyed the pad Thai and the cashew chicken. The atmosphere is lovely and calm. Small restaurant and kitchen. I can see how take out orders would take time when the restaurant is full. NEVER EATING HERE AGAIN: waitstaff was very kind and hospitable, but I witnessed a frankly abusive interaction between the waitress and the manager, where the manager publicly yelled at an obviously young waitress. Food is awesome! Especially the green curry, and the skewers are grilled to perfection. The portions are quite large so for two people usually two main dishes is more than enough. However the last time I dined in here the waitress fell on me because she was trying to scootch in between my chair and the wall in which there was virtually no space... I regularly go to this restaurant and always have the same thing: vegetables in peanut sauce and rice. It is always excellent, the vegetables fresh, the sauce sharp without being overpowering. Stopped here for a lunch to try out the different options out in Tsaw. Wasn't expecting anything great in terms of Thai food, but I was pleasantly surprised by the green curry I ordered. Would've liked more rice with the order, but the curry was very well made and the eggplant was perfectly cooked, which is how I usually judge green curry. The spice level was medium, and honestly I thought it was a good balance between spicy and the sweetness of the coconut. Good luck! I am giving this place one star because after 4 attempts to order from them, I give up! There is no excuse for take out orders taking 2 and a half hours!!!! My first attempt I was a walk in on a Friday night (fair enough) the small restaurant was maybe half full and I was told it would take 2 hours until my order would be ready. So forget it I just thought it was a really busy night. My second attempt they were randomly closed for the day. My third attempt I called about 5:30 during the week, almost 3 hours!!!! My fourth and LAST attempt, we planned ahead tried calling really early, 4:45 and could get through for 15 minutes then was told it would take 2 hours and 45 minutes!!!! If you have literally a half a day to wait for food give it a try. Love Thai food! But this place is not good. Service is mediocre. Spring rolls tasted like deep froze boiled veggy. The red curry was bland. The noodles on the picture were the nice thick thai noodles when served they were the standard linguini size. The only decent thing was the Tom Yum soup. Best Green Chicken Curry Ever Siam Thai is a newcomer to the limited dining options for Tsawwassen and does not disappoint in any way. Highly recommended for anyone who loves Thai food with a Malaysian flair you will love the Satay and the Chicken Noodles which are like a satay version of Phad Thai and delicious. Everything we tried was very good but what stood out the most for me was the Chicken Curry which has the best flavour of any Thai curry I have had in about 7 years since I moved to BC from Toronto. The service is friendly, warm and gracious. A great experience dining in and also with subsequent take-out orders.
