The chow mein was greasy, the prawns look smashed and hardly resembled prawns, and the sweet and sour chicken had some really tough bits in there, as if reheated too long. The wonton soup was also flavorless, with huge cuts of vegetables, and dumplings were flimsy with barely any meat. I see the potential this restaurant has and hope it can improve with time. SUMMARY: Good deal for take/out food in this era of high inflation. PROS: Was impressed with how fresh the vegetables were in my Beef w/Broccoli order. Plus a nice balance of flavors. Also, was surprised with the Yen Ching Fried Rice, as it was both filling & flavorful. Finally, the served portions equaled, if not exceeded, the charged prices. CONS: While I was waiting in the dining room for my orders, I was freezing. I don't think they even bothered to turn the heater on, or maybe it just wasn't working. But you can imagine that if you ate in the restaurant, your meal would go cold in a matter of minutes. It's a total shame, since the interior decor is rather nice. Also, while I enjoyed the aforementioned Yen Ching Fried Rice, I felt that the Yen Ching Chow Mein was not on the same level. While the flavors and ingredients were basically the same, I felt that the noodles chosen by the chefs were not top quality, especially taking into account that this is supposed to be one of their signature dishes. SUGGESTION TO MANAGEMENT: Sprinkle some fresh Sesame Seeds on the Dry Fried Chicken, and the dish will look visually appealing. And please turn on the heating in the restaurant during Winter. I get this may be a bastardized version to appeal to the general demographic in Turlock, but I was not impressed. It's what made me write my review right away, I was so shocked by the small amount I got. Chicken chow mein - this was ordered at the counter for the SO after placing my original order over the phone. When he dug into it, it was 40% bean sprouts and barely any chicken, maybe 5 or 6 small pieces... Beef chow fun - same issue of overcompensating with hella bean sprouts. The beef wasn't velveted enough and a bit tough. Taste was fine. Chili oil spilled over in my to-go bag and didn't have much spice at all. All three entrees came in the leftover to-go sized boxes, totaling almost $50 after tax and tip. I understand inflation and all, but cannot justify returning due to the negative value for the amount of food received. The dish was an acquired taste. I'm glad I tried it, but it's something I will not get again. The Siu Mai Dumplings (shrimp & pork filling) were INCREDIBLE! They were so palatable and delicious to enjoy in every single bite. I usually pair soy sauce with dumplings. They were so good that soy sauce was not even needed! I eat sake sashimi at least 3 or 4 times a month, it's my favorite fish and it shouldn't be "fishy" at all unless it's on its way to going bad. This was the biggest reason for deciding to leave this review instead of letting it go. Someone could get sick. The best roll was the warrior's roll, and I'm not very big on the texture of unagi but it was really good. My step little loved her chicken teriyaki which I also tried and agreed. The chicken thighs were moist and delicious but could have done without being completely drowned in thickk teriyaki. The miso soup was fine but had wonton strips in it which I'd never seen before. And lastly, the stuffed mushrooms were delicious, but they are the size of a quarter and cost $11.95 for 4 teeny tiny mushrooms. Our server was trying really hard but it was obvious he hadn't had much training. He seemed overwhelmed and was definitely struggling and that feeling just got worse and worse through the meal. Everything we ordered came out randomly and with no organization. We ordered a large Kirin after verifying with him that they had bottled Kirin. They did not have it bottled and he brought us a draft and when we asked about the bottle he was apologetic but said "he already poured it..." So we felt like we had to take the draft. It spilled all over the table while I tried to pour it into two glasses because we were sharing. The check took a solid 20+ minutes after we ate and at that point I started getting irritated. Our server walked past us at least 10 times and I'm pretty sure he forgot but we couldn't get his attention. When he brought it over, he cleared our plates to box up all of the sushi we'd barely touched and he accidentally spilled soda on one of our rolls. Honestly, I wasn't even mad at the kid, it's not his fault he wasn't trained. The restaurant needs to work on whatever is making the salmon fishy and bring in someone to train their front of house staff. We unfortunately will not be returning, probably ever.

In a time where everything is always being updated, replaced, or rebranded, this place stays exactly the same and that's the best part. The vibe. The food is familiar, comforting, and reliable. It's the kind of takeout that comes home with you, ends up on the table with tea and fortune cookies, and turns into an easy family night. We're really lucky to still have a place like this. I ordered take out, one order of house fried rice, one order of orange chicken, and one order of sweet and sour pork. Everything was tasty and looked like it was made from scratch. Was it freshly prepared? Not likely. I was in and out the door in less than ten minutes. No way they could prepare this food that fast. Portions were big enough to serve 3-4 people no problem. The bill was a bit of a sticker shock, about $54 for everything. Would I go back? Probably not. Panda is about a mile from us and the two of us can eat there for $20-ish. This place is on the other side of town. And at Panda I can see the food items before I make a selection. Panda's food doesn't sit around very long under the heat lamps.
