I came here with a few friends for lunch and it was so good. The service was great and the food was amazing! We ordered a little bit of everything and shared. The portion sizes are pretty big so definitely come hungry. They are still doing construction on Main Street, so parking was limited but we were able to find spots within walking distance. I love the menu because there is a lot to choose from. Coming at lunch was a great choice because it wasn't too busy. My favorite dish was the Mt. Fuji roll! They have light music playing so it's a nice vibe and not too loud. I can't wait to come back to try their hibachi and cocktails! read more

We are in this part of the world for the first time for work and just starting dipping our toe in the Cortland food scene pond. We sampled its Mexican offerings last night and GF chose this place to bring us up to speed on some of their Asian food offerings. When they say fusion, they aren't kidding. My decision was pretty much locked down after I saw "tofu hibachi" on the second page but with each new thing GF brought to my attention (teriyaki, sushi, sushi entrees, bento box, poke, the list goes on and on) I was like, "they have THAT?" It really is quite impressive but one does start to wonder how well you can do anything if you do everything. Our on-location work put us through probably the most intense pre-employment physical I have ever endured in my life which unfortunately included a step on the scale and there should be laws against that kind of shit after the holidays. Anyways, it is probably obvious why we avoided some of our typical orders like spring rolls or gyoza and I didn't even allow the thought to come close enough to my consciousness to clock whether or not they have vegetarian offerings. They DO offer a bunch of vegetarian sushi including a special roll which I don't know that I have ever seen before. I wanted to keep it on the lighter side so ordered an avocado cucumber roll as a side which was priced at the very reasonable $6. The rolls were very standard, nothing to write home about but nothing that skeeved me out like some other sushi I have be subjected to. You may remember that I had my mind set on the tofu hibachi which comes with a soup AND a salad. The soup was a mushroom/onion soup and two of the things I hate most in this world are onions and mushrooms so I swapped out with GF's miso soup. I believe the soup came with her sushi and sashimi combo entree. The salad I was served was about the size of a cracker but was fresh enough with a few shavings of carrot and included that wonderful ginger dressing you have probably come to expect from an Asian restaurant. The hibachi came out piping hot, I literally burned my mouth on the tofu due to lack of patience despite waiting a good minute or so. The flavor was pretty good and it wasn't overly fried. The vegetables also were decent but could have been more plentiful. They absolutely loaded the rice onto the plate and I would have been thrilled to see this Himalayan pile of rice if it wasn't so full of onions for reasons mentioned above. The service was good and everything came out very quickly. We were in and out in probably 40 minutes or less. This wasn't mind blowing but got the job done. read more

The reason I'm making this review is tonight I ordered a tempura roll, an order of crab ragoon and a slice of cheesecake to go, and the estimated wait time was 15 minutes. After I payed (which was over 20 minutes after I ordered) I was informed it wasn't ready and to sit on the couch. I then sat on the couch for 45 minutes waiting before someone helped me and I realized my order was literally ready the whole time sitting there and the original guy who "helped me" was a fucking retard. Been twice so far and this place is excellent. The first time I had the hibachi filet and a seaweed salad. Both were excellent. The second time I went I had the seaweed salad again, some yellowtail and tuna sushi, an eel avocado roll and the thunder roll. My three companions all had the sushi deluxe, which is a mix of sushi and a tuna roll. Everything was excellent. The sushi is fresh and just as good as in the city. The young people who work there are very sweet and very eager to accommodate. Recommend this place if you're in Cortland. read more

I am honestly shocked at the number of very good reviews this place has gotten. We went as a party of 6 last evening and I can honestly say it was disgusting. 5 of us got the hibachi...chicken, filet mignon, shrimp. One of our party got the massaman curry. My daughter (filet mignon) said it didn't taste like filet mignon. I tasted it and agreed. The fried rice was tasteless and had no vegetables nor egg in it. Very weird undertaste too. The massaman curry was a hot mess on a plate and was not eaten. The hot sake was not good. The cook squirted "sake" into peoples mouths. More like vinegar than sake. Must have been from old, leftover bottles. All in all, not a good experience. Where are the yelpers who feel this way? Strange. read more

Sushi was dry.... Mediocre at best, my daughter for hibachi chicken that had zero taste. Even the yum-yum sauce had no flavor. Even though the menu says the sushi comes with tobiko, it does not. Service is quick and everyone was very polite which is the only reason I gave them the three star review. It's a quiet place and it was clean too. If you want to be on-time do NOT place an order for pick up here. I placed an online order for pick up 1 hour before traveling through Cortland. When I arrived 5 min before my pick up time the order was not ready. When it came 15 min late it was incorrect and they had left out an entire meal that I had ordered. The restaurant said they could quickly make the meal, however it took 40min. The whole experience added 55 minutes onto a six hour drive. When I asked for compensation to make the experience more enjoyable, they said they could not refund the purchase as it was already been charged to the card through the online ordering company. Instead I received 2 miso soups and a $15 gift card to their restaurant that I will likely never return to. By the time I got to eat, the food was cold. read more

Ordered online tonight at 7pm.  Web-site said pickup was 7:53pm.  Went to pick up order and they couldn't locate my order.  In the middle of trying to locate order, person takes phone call for 5 minutes.  Finally comes back to me and we had to walk through the whole order again.  Finally found it - she went in the back to check.   Finally came back but never said anything.  I asked - she said another 10 minutes.  Came back and waited 20 more minutes.  Finally was given order.  Came home to find out they forgot the hibachi rice - the best part.   The people at the front were very rude.  Customers would come in and wait 5 to 10 minutes before they were even acknowledged.  One man told them he didn't appreciate their rudeness and they shouted back at him. read more

What a disappointment. I'm not one to usually get upset if a meal is not stellar but, worst sushi experience I've ever had. The rolls were tiny. They had no flavor. They were warm, which is disgusting. I have to say, I was actually mad. It was awful, which is a shame. I spent $52 on two rolls and two beers. I'm guessing the one stars are local yocals expecting a $7 Chinese slurp-troth or ex-pats wanting to tell everyone how much better Asian food is where they moved to. Now sure, this is not the best Sushi I've ever had ... that would probably be Slow Loris in Brooklyn... but it is good. It compares favorably to pretty much anything you will find in a 50 mile radius - Cortland is lucky to have a place like this. When you walk in it seems fine, the atmosphere is nice, and it's well lit. But, there where many things that were not enjoyable. First, the music was very obnoxious. Second, the service was "sub-par", the waiter we had was very short in speaking, and would often not respond when you asked her for something. And third, my family all ordered tofu dishes. The hibachi tofu dish I ordered was not what I expected, the tofu was silky and not firm, the fried rice was very fishy, and some of the ingredients seemed old and mushy. This was basically the same for everyone else's dishes. And finally the water was very unappetizing, this may just be a town water issue. I would recommend ordering bottled water. The good thing about the experience though was that the miso soup and salad was quite good. I also enjoyed that the menu was quite large, the bathroom was also nicely clean ! read more

Wild Ginger is the only place to get sushi in Cortland so it might be the only reason that this place is still in business. All of their hot food is preprepared so you can't ask for low salt or for a certain ingredient not to be in it because it all comes packaged. Their sushi is literally not even more than an inch tall. Yet it costs 5-6 dollars for a regular roll. 2 pieces could make up one. On top of that, BEWARE of the skinny woman that works there every single day. She doesn't care about your order, never writes it down, doesn't apologize for mistakes, and ROLLS HER EYES when she takes your order. 7/10 times she does this. I don't know why she hasn't been fired yet but it's probably because she has no other talents if she can't even speak to people. Please avoid this place and come to Ithaca. read more

I am a student at SUNY Cortland- I am from LI, as there is a lot of options on Long Island for sushi, this is the closest one to campus. With that being said, the service should be great. Most times I go I have about 3 different waitresses who have to be told or reminded to bring food/drinks. I never know who my waitress is. Last experience the sushi chef was serving us and making our food. I don't understand if it's lack of communication or the fact that they don't care, but the service is terrible. read more

Four Thumbs Up! Four of us were pleasantly surprised with the fine Asian fare we had at the Wild Ginger on an evening out. Our surprise was largely due to the fact that that they were only into their fourth day of operation and we expected that they would still be working out some kinks. In spite of the fact that some items on the menu were not yet available and the restaurant was still awaiting their liquor license, it was an evening of total dining satisfaction. Their Asian menu runs the gamut of Thai, Japanese, and Chinese cuisines including bento boxes on the lunch menu. A sushi bar and at least two very popular and evidently entertaining hibachi tables rounded out the variety of offerings. Service was knowledgeable and efficient. The booth seating and low-key lighting made the dining experience a little more intimate. Our party enjoyed a range of dishes including Asian salads, steamed dumplings, and miso soups for appetizers and salmon teriyaki, sushi specials, a tempura shrimp and udon noodle bowl as well as a stir-fried saba noodle and shrimp dish. We were especially impressed with the delicate shrimp shumai which seemed freshly prepared and the delicious "Rock N Roll" and "Mt Fuji roll" sushi. Salmon teriyaki was a definite hit. The saba noodle dish while cooked to perfection with a generous portion of shrimp would have benefitted from more aggressive seasoning. We overcame this deficit by utilizing the other condiments we had on our table. A selection of popular Chinese entrees and appetizers was also offered. Be assured that we'll surely give these a try on our next visit which will be very soon. read more

I have been to many Japanese restaurants in the past, and this one really stands out. The sushi here are way cheaper than what I get in the city (7-9 dollars for classic roll, 20.95-49.95 for any special roll.) I was surprised that a Japanese deluxe sushi sashimi meal doesn't cost over 100 dollars like they do in the city. The deep fried sushi taste fresh and warm, the quality of the fish are on the top too. The dinner portion of hibachi are a lot, I always need a box for togo. All the neat foods are well decorated, it really make you feel the chefs knows what they are doing. On top of that, through a conversation with one of the waiter, I found out that they have 4 main chefs in charge of 4 different category of food, (hibachi show chefs, kitchen Japanese chefs, sushi chefs, Chinese/Thai chef) and yet the price isn't nearly as high as what I was anticipating with this many high paid chefs. Read some reviews saying the sushi were small, so I was a little concerned at first. However, out of all the Japanese places that I have visited, sushi here can be considered large, the price can be considered low since sushi are meant to be expensive throughout the world. The length of them are unified in all the Japanese restaurants I have visited, many of their sushi are wider than the global unified sized. Amazing! We were really looking forward to a great sit-down Asian experience after 2 days of Thanksgiving fare. We had a party of five on Friday night. It wasn't too busy and we called ahead, so we were sat down right away. We ordered relatively quickly and got a variety of things: sushi, shrimp teriyaki, a side of fried rice and edamame and shrimp shumai as appetizers. The apps came out relatively fast, but the edamame was't that hot. Then we waited an additional 50 minutes until one of our entrees came, with the side of rice. The rice was not hot and we sent it back. The rest of the entrees came out at least 10 minutes after the first entree. A plate came out with a piece of paper stuck to it. The ambience was lacking with no music playing in the background. We were also disappointed there was no option for the low sodium soy sauce. Good luck to them but we won't be going back. read more

I have to travel to Cortland for work frequently and this is the only decent Asian restaurant I can find in Cortland. Tonight the owner has recommended their new special poke bowl. I was wow by the quality that I have to leave a review. The ingredients are way more than a normal poke bowl. And with the price, you can't get this anywhere else. Had dinner day after Thanksgiving and food was great! When we arrived at 5:15pm, there were already 5-6 tables filled including a family at one of the hibachis. Soon after, more guests arrived and by the time we left at 6:30pm, it was quite full. Took quite awhile before the server came to the table to ask about drinks. By then, we were ready to order and did so. We were 3 in the party and each of us ordered something from the Japanese, Thai and Chinese menus. The miso soup was luke warm but the Thai Tom Kha Gai soup was nice and hot! Flavor of it was good though it could have used a little more lime juice. The masamam chicken was excellent and my guests really enjoyed their Teriyaki Steak and General Tso's chicken. Portions were healthy and prices very reasonable. Two of us took doggie bags home and enjoyed the leftovers the next day. We were surprised that as new as it was, the food was delicious! I think the service could be a little more prompt with training. The server was pleasant but did not speak very good English. All in all, we are delighted to have a nice Asian restaurant downtown and will definitely return. Looking forward to trying out more selections including sushi. Carry out is also available. read more
