Expensive. Bland. Caused stomach pain for a whole day. Brown - not full of colorful vegetables like Thai food's supposed to be. And to top it all off, they use MSG. Also it smells of rancid oil and bathroom cleaner inside. On a positive note - what a magnificent view from on top of the hill where they are! I lived in Thailand for 10 months of my military service and know what real Thai food is, and this was wonderful. The Hot and Sour Soup was a great start to a delightful meal. I recommend the "Fisherman Treasure" for a main course. My wife loved the "Salmon Teriyaki" and even stated that the veggies included were absolutely perfect. We both enjoyed endless Thai tea with our meal instead of having the more traditional beer typical of Thailand. The server explained that their license allows wine and hard liquor, but not beer for some strange reason. The food and great service made up for the lack of beer. Second time coming here and it is fast becoming one of my favorite restaurants in the area. Nice selection of dishes to choose from and everything we have had was very good. Doors open at 11:30 and we were the first ones in, followed by many others. Friendly server helped us with the menu. There are lunch specials, plus the regular menu. There is wine and sake. The appetizer list is extensive. Everyone liked their meals, and we took some home. I had a box lunch. So pretty and delicious! The box included the main curry dish, salad with peanut dressing, dumplings and Jasmine rice. I recommend it so to try a variety of items. The decor of the large room was nice. It's handicapped accessible with a large parking lot in a small strip of a few shops. read more

We had a really good experience at Wild Papaya. It's a pretty traditional decor, nothing too fancy, but still nice. Our servers were very good about refilling our water glasses. Like, really really good at refilling our water glasses. Take a sip, and they were there to top me off (more on that later). The summer rolls were tasty. I'd probably try another appetizer next time, but we really enjoyed them. Very different. The Crazy Drunken Noodles were probably the MVP of the night. Fantastic. We would get them again. The portion was perfect. The Beef Basil Ka-Pow was also really good. If I had to do it all over again, I would not order level 3 (out of 5) spiciness. I'd probably get a 1 or 2. I can handle spicy, but my mouth was on fire and had a hard time tasting the dish. Here's where the water refills came in handy. I drank like 39 glasses of water, and while I was mildly laughed at how often they refilled my water before dinner, it was a complete godsend once I started eating....and sweating. My go-to spot for Thai food! I ate here very often while I was living in Kent and I make sure to stop in whenever I am back in town to visit. The food is so fresh and incredibly flavorful. The yellow curry and pad thai are my personal favorites, but I have yet to have a meal here that I did not enjoy. Not to mention, this is a hidden gem for any vegans or vegetarians! They are more than willing to alter any dish for any diet, allergies, etc. So awesome! You can also order to your preferred spiciness. The service is great and the hostess is always a joy to talk to. The atmosphere is nice - traditional decor, clean, relaxing. Overall, I really love this restaurant and their delicious food! read more

I had my husband take me to this restaurant one time and it costed 30 bucks per meal and honestly the descriptions of the items on the menu were extremely vague so for somebody who's not cultured they wouldn't know what to order and what not to.. the only thing good about this place was the carrot flowers that came on the plate and from what I hear a woman comes there and drops them off and makes them herself so that's the reason why I gave was place a two star is because that woman is an All-Star at carving carrots...lol read more

Five of us stopped in for an early dinner on a Sunday mid-afternoon. We were the only ones in the place which would have set off some red flags if not for the fact that two of the people in our party eat here regularly. The place was spotlessly clean and the greeter/hostess/server/cashier was incredibly friendly. We all ended up ordering some variation of Pad Thai. They were VERY conscious about asking each person in our party about any food sensitivity issues and accommodated for our assorted gluten and shellfish allergies. They rank spiciness on a 1(not) to 5(very) scale so you can customize to your liking. I ordered the Pad Thai Country Style with Tofu, level 3 spicy. Level 3 was about what you would expect as medium spiciness. Everything was good. The tofu wasn't soft, but could have been a bit crispier- it was sort of in the middle; chewy I guess. Everyone agreed it was all very flavorful and good. Is it weird that lots of really good restaurants are hiding in plain sight within the strip malls of America? We will definitely be back to try more of the Wild Papaya menu. read more

Yum! My mom's favorite place to eat in Kent and occasionally I'm able to make it here with her. The crab rangoon is a little different than usual but I liked it! It almost seemed like cheddar inside. Can't say for sure but I'm a sucker for crab rang so I liked it. I had the pineapple fried rice and it was sooo perfect. The city powder was a great addition. Wish I could make it up here more often, I'd like to make it through more items on the menu! read more

Easy on the wallet & yummy in your tummy- can't go wrong with their mouth watering Crazy Noodle(drunken noodle) dish nor their Satay. The prices are very fair & their portions are equally as pleasing. The staff is always friendly, the restaurant is clean & they are one of the few places open late on Sundays. They also offer a unique yet refreshing Bubble Tea(milk tea), the decor is is somewhat a cross between modern meets traditional Thai; just love their cute little ball-like lights & the atmosphere is a nice change from the typical Kent bars & eateries. Not only is the food amazing, but the staff is also. Their Pad See Ew is always amazing and delicious. The shrimp in a blanket is also a guilty pleasure. They always get the food out to us quickly, even when we have a large number of people in our party. This is a gem of a place and a Kent staple. The staff is also extremely pleasant and accommodating. I recently had to ask them for an itemized receipt (which was nearly a month old) and they graciously found it for me. While the mango sticky rice was good, we ordered 2 pad Thai and paid a dollar more for each to get shrimp instead of chicken. We got 2 orders of greasy noodles, very little amount of veggies, and only 3 shrimp (shrimp size was small to medium) per order. So many get places to eat in area and by Kent State. This was my first experience with Thai food, and I have to say I'm very pleased! I've lived across the street from Wild Papaya for years, but never actually visited until just recently. I've for sure been missing out! I ordered the rainbow rice bowl that had a different assortment of veggies, brown rice, tofu and some kind of soy sauce. It was delicious, and probably some of the best Asian cuisine I've ever had! I also ordered the mango bubble tea. It wasn't the best bubble tea I've had, it was almost more like a smoothie, but it was still pretty tasty. The reason I'm giving the restaurant four stars instead of five is because my waitress was a little too attentive. She came by my table at least every 10 minutes and interrupted my conversation multiple times. The food is also a little pricy. My entire meal was $16, which is more than I usually spend at a restaurant in Kent. Overall though I'm super happy with my meal at Wild Papaya! read more

Food was not sufficiently flavored with Thai culinary tastes or ingredients. A collection of vegetables needs to to flavored to make it tastes better. Vegetables were bland and not particularly appealing with culinary connection to food associated with Thailand. No Thai flavors to make me want to return. Prices were too high and the vegetarian dish was not reasonably priced. Nothing particularly appetizing about the food that was bland and tasteless. What happened to the large selection of salads? Menu seemed to be lacking a large selection of salads. Knowledge about Thai food is needed for sure. But the food ordered needs more culinary quality. It amounted to a collection of vegetables. I don't normally review places but this place was so surprisingly amazing. My boyfriend and I are very picky vegan eaters and usually we don't have much luck finding gems like this when we travel. The server was so sweet and made sure we didn't order anything with fish dairy or meat because it's not always listed. We got the red and yellow curries and all the vegetables were so fresh and I am not exaggerating this was the best curry I have ever had. I don't know if I can ever look at curry the same. I've been here many times during my time at Kent and can say that it is a very solid Thai restaurant. I usually get their Pad Thai or Drunken noodles and it is always pretty good. I also love their basil fried rice. There is a lady who is always working as the host/waitress and is very kind when we walk in. She also seems to be treating other customers the same so the service is good. The only thing is they seem understaffed at times. I'll continue to go here for my Thai food fix until I leave Kent. read more

I have actually had wonderful experiences at this restaurant until tonight. The food is great and the service as well, until today: After I paid the bill and left a tip, I headed to my car. Once I got in and was about to start it, someone knocked on my window. It was one of the servers- maybe the manager or owner. She was holding two water glasses. I opened the door and she asked me if I took one of her glasses. I guess she was convinced I stole a glass from the restaurant when I left?! I had dined there at least 4 or 5 times previously. Also, please don't knock on a woman's car window in a dark parking lot! She scared me to death. Needless to say, I will not be back. read more
