3 stars for good food, but overall Kintaro in Montrose is a much better choice. The "all-you-can-eat" sushi is not all you can eat. Almost every menu category has a limit as to the number of each you can have. This inexplicably includes the appetizers, which actually would be way cheaper for someone to fill up on miso soup than sashimi. There is an additional charge for any hibachi, no vegetable or salad options, and does not include any dessert. Ambiance isn't awesome, this building used to be a run-down Ponderosa and there's a lingering depressed aura in the booths and decor. There is a nice bar with good variety of affordably priced drinks. As all you can eat sushi places go, you're better off making the drive to Kintaro in Montrose. Significantly better selection of dishes, no category limits, and dessert is included. And it's the same price at both places. read more

While the wood paneling, booths, and chandeliers from the Ponderosa remain, tasteful Japanese art has been added to the walls. When you crack open the menu, splendors await. I've been here many times, and each time I get the all you can eat sushi. The value is amazing for just over $20. There are multiple appetizers and so many rolls from which to choose. As you check off your choices using a golf sized pencil, your mouth begins to water. Your lips quiver in anticipation of what will soon be on the table. OK, so after my third time visiting this sad excuse for a restaurant, I feel compelled to write a review. It won't be a review of the first time I went there, when the chicken in my lunch bento box was raw. It's also not a review of the second time I went there, when my daughter and I ordered sushi and they delivered our meals about 10 minutes apart. My most recent visit was the last straw. Fist, my salad had a huge piece of plastic in it, on which I nearly choked. I'm thinking the "chef" cut open a bag of premixed salad with his knife and the piece of plastic fell into the salad. But fine, accidents happen. I told the server, who took the piece of plastic towards the kitchen and yelled at the workers back there. My partner and I ordered dinner...she ordered udon with chicken, I ordered the jumbo shrimp hibachi. The udon came out first...like WAY first. Not only did I have to wait about 5 minutes for my meal, but the udon didn't have any chicken (and it also wasn't soup, which one would assume it would be). When my meal finally came, the server realized she brought the wrong meal and replaced it with the chicken udon. My "jumbo" shrimp hibachi wasn't good at all. The shrimp were small and overcooked. The plate looked like the chef dropped all of the food on it from about five feet above...things were scattered all over and the plate was very messy. I'd forgive that if the food tasted good, but that wasn't the case. They gave us a few bucks off our meal, but paying anything for this quality of food and service is paying too much. I'll certainly never go there again. If you do, try not to get salmonella or choke on a chunk of plastic. Better yet, go the extra block and hit up Wild Papaya, which has always been good quality and consistent. read more

I have been to this place 5 times now. I do not have one complaint. There is plenty of parking and the place is clean, and neat. Yes, the decor can be viewed as slightly odd since they still have a lot of the old Ponderosa stuff around, but it is tastefully done. The service is somewhat slow, if you're in a hurry, but I highly recommend just taking your time and enjoy the food. It comes out hot and very tasty! Everything is plated beautifully. I absolutely ENJOY the all you can eat sushi. There is a small fee for uneaten sushi if you go this route, but that's why you order a little at a time.
