Fabulous food and great service!! Cabin John is lucky to have such a hot little place to go for a great meal.

My husband and I were delighted at the news and reviews of Wild Tomato; clearly that spot needed a good restaurant. Our first visit was a delight but the food and service have deteriorated steadily since that visit. I have been there 4 times and may give it 1 more chance. Apparently their popularity has overwhelmed the staff but it won't be too long before the crowds diminish. Yesterday, my party of 3 arrived at noon and ordered 2 salads and 1 fish tacos; the tacos were predictably good but we waited so long to be served that we had to talk to the wait staff several times. Our Cobb salads consisted of lettuce, a few tomato dices, chicken and a sprinkling of cheese with a very bland dressing--where were the rest of the ingredients that make you want a Cobb salad? There were customers waiting as we finally completed our meal and, apparently, the staff was so anxious for us to leave that they never inquired if we wanted dessert of coffee--we happened to be celebrating an 85th birthday and might have indulged, but of course, we didn't. Despite it being located in an unimpressive strip mall, this restaurant was fantastic. The fish tacos were delicious: crispy and the slaw in the taco was lime and flavorful. I had the Maryland rockfish with mango and shrimp. It was fresh and tasty. Atmosphere was nice with beautiful paintings from a local artist displayed. Outdoor seating was available. Served Hawaii's Kona beer on tap which was a real plus for me. read more

I give it a solid 3+. I laud the ambitiousness of business owners to create a unique dining experience in this part of Montgomery County. Although it was kind of busy, we didn't mind the wait. I had the fish tacos, which were a little pricey for what you get, but they were enjoyable. Went here on recommendation from a friend. Reviews were good so I gave it a shot. Went on a busy Friday night. Place was packed and extremely loud. Also very small. Had about a 30 minute wait and were seated outside. The menu is small but a good variety. I ordered braised short ribs. After waiting forever for our order to arrive, my ribs were not good. They had a vinegary taste when I was expecting barbecue. The waiter asked what I would like instead and I went for a burger seeing that my other dinner mates enjoyed theirs. My expectation for this to come out quick was wrong. It took just as long. On the bright side, the burger was delicious. I don't think I'll return due to slow service and how noisy it is in the restaurant. read more

I wanted to like it more fresh ingredients healthier than most pizzerias however the wings were under done as well as the pizza which was a sloppy sloppy mess great taste though. For the higher price you pay when shouldn't have to be specific about making sure these things are right. read more

I have gotten pizza, the Wild Tomato burger, and shrimp and grits (today) and all three were delicious. The burger is one hell of a burger, juicy and tender and stacked with everything. Their drinks are awesome and they have a good variety of sweet (Pomegranate Margarita) and less sweet (old fashioned w/ bourbon) and they're all great. Shrimp and grits were delicious. Very generously sized portions. I had the Barbecue Chicken Salad and it was quite tasty. Not as much chicken as I expected but it was filled with other things like crispy onion straw, black beans and corn. A friend had the fish tacos and they looked amazing. I'll try them next time. A comment and a reason for the 4 stars: they put the bill in a jar and place it on the table. Maybe it was my waitress but it took me a while to realize it was there. If you haven't been.... It's a MUST! You will not be disappointed with anything on the menu! The awesome art that is on the wall is for sale, I wish to own a piece one of these days! This cute little restaurant has become a local favorite and our default place for lunch or dinner since we can easily walk there from our apartment in Cabin John and the food is as good as any restaurant in Bethesda. The fish tacos are amazing as are the Greek salad and roasted chicken. The burger is also really tasty. The only downside is that the menu is relatively limited and hasn't changed much over the past few months. However, the specials have been quite tasty! read more

I'm on the fence between 3 and 4 stars but I'll round up because the staff was very attentive and very nice. Also, I'm very excited that we have another place to go close by home. Food -- we started with Curry mussels and fried clams. Both were good and were larger portions than I expected. I had a delicious salad that had strawberries and feta cheese. My boyfriend had some sort of seafood pasta that was good. I wish we had tried this earlier so that we could sit outside! The bar was only about 5 sits so was full. I liked that they have TVs and disagree with another reviewer about two being too many. The way the were positioned, you could semi-watch a game without it being too much in your face. We will definitely go back since there were many things on the menu that I was interested in trying. read more

Perfect casual neighborhood spot in adorable Glen Echo. The menu is filled with well-prepared, tasty comfort foods like excellent nachos, fish tacos, and salads piled high. The wine, beer, and cocktail lists are solid (bloody mary in a mason jar! st. germaine! the perfect off-dry riesling for a hot summer's evening!). The bartenders and servers are so friendly, they really make you feel at home. I always leave this place feeling smiley and satisfied. read more

My husband and I went on Saturday night with no reservations. The wait for a table was thirty minutes so we sat t the bar. Service was very courteous and fast. I had a cocktail, which was excellent. My husband ordered a beer. We split an antipasto, which was unusually good and made up of Italian meats, cheeses, marinated peppers and olives. The menu includes many gluten free options, as well as hand made pizza. I had the fish special (trout with spinach, tomatoes and pine nuts), which was excetional. We're not locals. Not even close. But, fresh from landing at Reagan, on our way to other climes, and desperate for a TV to watch the US vs. Belgium World Cup match, we Yelped sports pubs. Well, they do have two TVs, and an amusingly soccer-naive clientele, but it was the food that made our day. Delicious wings and succulent fish tacos took the sting out of the US loss, and we were able to school a few locals about the world's favorite sport while we ate. I'd probably give Wild Tomato a better review if I'd enjoyed the fish tacos more. They were well prepared, but a bit cold. Why? Because the lady who served them to us decided to bring them to our table while we were in the middle of our appetizers. She actually asked "are you through with your appetizers?" as we stared up at her from plates full of food. The food here is excellent, and creative, but they might consider ditching the teenage wait staff concept and going with professionals. read more

Amazing service and amazing food! Super close to Great Falls national park. The meat trio is highly recommended, it was quality sausage. The server put up with us asking for a bunch of condiments. They have two TV'S which was perfect for watching the world cup. There's also outdoor seating. read more

Wild Tomato is a nice little place with good food. My only complaints are the prices and that it's usually pretty packed (lunch and dinner). My office is next door, so I have been able to come here a few times and try out different items on the menu. The spicy meats pizza is awesome as if their mac n' cheese. read more

What a great little restaurant located on MacArthur Blvd. and it is not a chain restaurant. Relaxing with indoor and outdoor space Wonderful menu. The butternut squash soup was good, not great needed to be a bit thicker. The burger with a generous portion fries. Great service as well. Love to find NON chain restaurants with parking. Wild Tomato is a quaint little spot in the heart of Cabin John. The decor is stylish yet comfortable and the staff is super friendly. They have a inviting menu with average size portions. I recommend the clam strips for a starter and a delish Hoegaarden draft to wash it all home. All in all a fun place and a great addition to the neighborhood. read more

My favorite restaurant in town! It is small and often crowded, but definitely worth the wait. The staff is all more than helpful and welcoming. The food is incredible. I feel at home when I'm at Wild Tomato! The best atmosphere! The fish tacos are great! The pizza is incredible, too. The fish dishes are to die for! They had a vegetarian lasagna as a special once and it was amazing. They have a lot of different options-- not just your classic restaurant options. The portions are a good size and the prices are not too bad. And they have really fun drinks! Our favorite thing to do is eat here in the summer in the outdoor seating. And they are so welcoming of the dog to join! So fun. A++ Definitely a spot to remember! read more

Absolutely love this place!! It's super cozy and the food is always fresh and delicious. The staff are so friendly. My favorite thing to order is the grilled fish tacos, never get sick of thoes and I think they have some magic because the last time I had them I was 9 months pregnant and had 10 days left till my due date. My wife and I went to Wild Tomato for the first time last weekend. We "stumbled" upon it after a nice afternoon hike at Great Falls and are so glad we discovered this hidden gem. The restaurant is small with a handful of tables and a bar inside and a really nice patio/seating area outside. We were immediately greeted by an incredibly friendly server who, after asking us about our seating preferences, directed us to a comfortable table outside. At a time when many restaurants don't put a premium on customer service, I was immediately struck at how friendly and attentive our server was. She was just a joy to be around and put us in a good mood. For a small restaurant, Wild Tomato's menu is pretty expansive, with a nice selection of soups, salads, sandwiches and pizzas. I tried the Italian Wedding soup which was out of this world and a cobb salad which was equally delicious. The ingredients were fresh and full of flavor. Wild Tomato is a small restaurant that is easy to miss if you're not looking for it. I highly recommend it if you are looking for classic, tasty food accompanied by friendly efficient staff. A popular SALT FACTORY for sure. I was there for my Mother's Birthday and ordered the $20.00 Shrimp and Grits. They looked good, but underneath all that pretty, was a surprise, SALT! I asked, "Why is there so much SALT on the shrimp?". Mgr. Tammy Guice Answer: "Because that's what people want! I said, "But I didn't like it." Mgr. Tammy Guice ANSWER: "It's Blackened Spice -- Blackened Spice is Salt!" I said, 'But, there just 8 little Shrimps. (a few ounces) Why put so much?" Mgr. Tammy Guice Answer: "That's how we make it! Blackened Spice is salty, and people love it! Don't you know that?" I said, "Why don't you make some Blackened Spice without salt, every Real Chef in New Orleans makes spice without salt? Mgr. Tammy Guice ANSWER: "You'll just have to order it next time and ask for less Blackened Spice." I said, "I believe you." There won't be a next time. THE TAKE HOME: For all you paying customers like me, maybe Sysco Food Service makes Blackened Spice, and maybe Sysco loves it too. Don't be dumbed-down by the restaurants in Potomac and Bethesda. Poor little Shrimp. PS You should get a Real Kitchen Door, your Kitchen Curtain's don't work, and please Fix Your Exhaust Fan! I love this place. I've always had good, fresh food that is reasonably priced. My sister loves the homemade hummus, and while it might not be the most interesting item on the menu, I've had several of their different pizzas and each one is better than the next. I agree with some other reviews that the decor is pretty simple, but it hasn't ever bothered me. And I've found almost all of the staff to be very friendly and helpful. On my most recent visit, one of my friends ordered the lobster rolls, and my other friend got a cheeseburger. We were all really pleased with our food. The dessert menu is a bit limited, but overall, I love this spot. read more

I've been there twice and thought the food was ok but overpriced and the service friendly enough. However, I won't be returning. This evening, my teenage son and I ordered pizza there; within a few minutes of beginning to eat, he asked me to swap my pizza with his as he was feeling an allergic reaction coming on but thought he was OK. I asked the waiter to check for nuts in the pizza and sure enough, it contained walnuts but there was no mention of this on the menu. The reaction continued to increase and I asked the waiter if there was any Benadryl available - he finally came back with the answer that the restaurant couldn't give out any medication. So that was it - basically they would have preferred to see him balloon up with a reaction or bring an ambulance to the door than to give him medication. Happily a woman at the bar overheard and came over to give him the needed Benadryl. My request to them to ensure this wouldn't happen to anyone else by clearing marking it on the menu was met with a 'yes, I'll ask the manager'. I asked for the bill as I was anxious to get out and get my son home but the waiter's primary concern seemed to be with delivering me a third pizza which I had just ordered to go before the onset of the allergic reaction. It really felt like all they cared about was charging me for the 3 pizzas and there was little or no concern for my son's condition nor any kind of apology for their failure to clearly note the presence of walnuts in a menu item, never mind a 'we won't charge you for your son's pizza, we're so sorry this happened'. Instead I left with a third completely undercooked pizza - I was frankly in no emotional state to even think about that - I just wanted to get out. Never again. read more

Well Wild Tomato has for a long time been a favorite quick local stop for dinner. Alway good choices with great quality. Recently however on three occasions have had the same dish with different results. First serving of steak Frits was tender with great flavor. But the second and yea third time the steak was tough with no flavor and small serving. Having commented on it the second time I hopes for my first experience. Alas not to be. Again tough and tasteless. Again brought to attention to server who commented "it was only $16." Well love the place don't order steak anything. read more

We've eaten at Wild Tomato in Bethesda many, many times....lunches, dinners, take outs ..... I can't even begin to add up the number of times since the day that they opened. Last Sunday night we had the family over and called them for take out. We ordered one order of tacos, one pasta and meat balls, one salmon dinner, one grilled lettuce salad and two BBQ chicken salads. Everyone ate and nearly everyone was fine BUT the two of us who ordered the BBQ chicken salads were NOT fine. We both became sick about three hours after eating the BBQ chicken salads. I began violently vomiting for 14 fourteen straight hours without stopping. The other family member had diarrhea all night and morning. Obviously the chicken salads had been compromised. Either the chicken was bad, or the lettuce or the salad dressing OR it had been prepared and left sitting out to spoil, or lastly the person who prepared the salads was sick or carried something on his or her hands. In either case, we both became violently sick. You can't believe what it's like to vomit uncontrollably for a straight 14 hours and than to be nauseous for days afterwards. My husband phoned the restaurant Monday morning to advise them of what had happened. They said they'd get back to us.....that was Monday. Today is Friday, and we haven't heard a word from them.....not an apology, not a refund.....nothing. Is this the way to treat good customers or any customers for that matter? Are they oblivious to the fact that we were sickened by THEIR food or handling of that food? Not a call, not we're sorry. Do not eat here....they obviously don't care about their food or their customers! read more
