The food was awesome, but the service was meh... food was delicious and fresh. We had a bottle of wine, the meatball appetizer, the seafood pasta, the steak and a pizza. They accommodated our gluten-free request, but only after the server had to go check with the kitchen. I also asked for a side of the squid ink pasta, which again, she had to check with the kitchen after saying no first. We went on a Sunday night, so it was quiet and perfect for catching up with friends. But as mentioned, the service was just so-so. It wasn't completely awful, but it just was not great. Our server's demeanor was lukewarm to say the least. Server said no right away to our requests, until she asked the kitchen, who accommodated (ie GF option and side of squid ink pasta). Perhaps she could have said "let me check" before saying "no" right off the bat, before checking with the kitchen or manager! Just sayin'.... Hubby and I stopped by for dinner last night, and we're so glad we did! I ordered the buffalo mozzarella beet salad (Bufala & Terra) and the Margherita Pizza, while hubby went with the Chicken Milanese. The buffalo mozzarella beet salad normally comes with arugula, and I asked to substitute lettuce, but they weren't able to accommodate that--which was a bit disappointing. That said, the salad was still very good. The roasted beets were definitely the highlight, along with the delicious toppings like chickpea purée and pistachios. One thing to note is that the buffalo mozzarella was very salty. The Margherita Pizza was the star of the meal--absolutely delicious! In fact, hubby liked it even more than his chicken Milanese. While he enjoyed his dish, the portion was quite small, so he ended up eating half of my pizza. His entrée also came with just a tiny arugula side salad, and it really could have used a carb to make it more filling. One thing to note is that when we arrived and told the hosts that we didn't have a reservation, they didn't seem too pleased. The restaurant was half empty so they still sat us, but this seemed like an issue. Our server was nice and attentive at the beginning but was nowhere to be found towards the end when I needed a refill on my iced tea. I absolutely love stellina pizzeria. They have very quickly become one of my favorite pizza places in the DMV and this location is definitely my favorite as I've been to several of them. Their picante pizza is my favorite, but they also have the best margarita pizza I've ever had. I love their calamari and their bombalinas and their stellina spritz is delicious. Came here with high expectations after seeing they are ranked #24 on the World's Best Pizza list, and huge congratulations to them for that achievement. You can tell everything is made very intentionally. The ingredients clearly show quality, from the pizza to the pasta. Our server was good and thoughtful. They checked in and let our group of four know that we had probably ordered enough with two pizzas, one pasta, and an order of meatballs to share, which I appreciated. That said, we have pretty big appetites and still felt hungry, even after ordering an additional pizza. If you eat a lot, I would recommend ordering more than you think you need. I wouldn't say it's great value or that it's the best pizza I've ever had, but it is delicious and made with high-quality ingredients. I would come back to try their happy hour. I stopped by for dinner time and despite a few dishes being sold out or unavailable, everything we ordered was delicious. We tried the cuoppo mozzarella, polpette Della nonna, chitarra di pesce and margherita pizza. The cuoppo mozzarella is basically mozzarella cheese sticks and I didn't have high expectations, but they completely surprised me. I devoured them right away and the cheese tasted incredibly fresh! I also really enjoyed the chitarra di pesce which is a spicy seafood pasta. It definitely has a kick but nothing overwhelming. It was the perfect spicy level. The seafood was fresh and the noodles were chewy and clearly freshly hand made. The pizza was also delicious though by the time it arrived I was already so full. In my youth, I loved the happy hour scene at Lupo Verde but now that I have fully situated myself in the 'burbs, the days of casually grabbing some drinks after work is now a thing of the past. Luckily, the chef and manager of Lupo's opened up Stellina in Tysons and I am now able to get my fix of delicious and casual Italian fare closer to home...with an added bonus of being extremely kid friendly. It truly feels like a gathering spot to bring family, friends, or coworkers together. 2) Their pizza is insanely good ... like winning international awards good .... the speck and gorgonzola is my favorite although my family is horrified by the thought of stinky cheese. They also have happy hour daily from 4-6pm (at the bar only). There is an outdoor parking lot that has free 2 hour parking on the same block. It seems that they do not validate parking when we asked about validation. Stopped by here for their award winning pizza. Love! I love Neapolitan style pizzas!! In the brick oven to give it a nice smokey char. We ordered their fried seafood with cal arms, shrimp, octopus that was served on a bed a chips. Strange combo but tasted good. Two pizzas: their prosciutto with mushroom and the pesto, zucchini, pistachio pizza. One red and one white! Both were tasty. I asked our waitress if they had Coke Zero, and she told me they don't, and I also asked if they had Diet Coke, to which she also said no to. The pizza was actually very disappointing and underwhelming. The slices were soggy and the different toppings didn't seem to mesh well together. Their homemade sausage was interesting as it didn't exactly have much flavor. The pasta however, was the highlight of this dinner. The space was clean, open, and had great music (e.g. r&b, oldie jams, etc). We ordered the CAVOLINI DI BRUXELL (Brussels sprouts) as our appetizer, which were solid with just the right amount of glaze (I love it drenched in the glaze). We ordered the Mezcalita drink and it was soo good, we definitely got two orders of it. Four our entree, we ordered the traditional pepperoni pizza and added mushrooms and spicy sausages. This was my first visit to Stellina Pizzeria, the restaurant in Tyson, VA. Parking is somewhat difficult to locate, but I made it at a parking site one block from the restaurant. The entrance is very nice with small tables and red umbrellas outside (reflecting on the red and white color scheme inside). The menu seems to be pizza centric (they have the high-powered brick oven to produce Naples-style pies) but has other dishes, like caccio e pepe, pulpetti, etc. The service was attentive. The fried artichoke were fantastic, but they need to work 9n the caccio e pepe (which was watery and had almost no pecorino cheese). read more

This place is nothing fancy ... but the servers -- fun, professional, and reading the room just right with great personality --- turned it into a five star meal. App recommendations were fabulous. Pizza recommendations were fabulous. Wine recommendations were fabulous. Dessert recommendations were fabulous. I imagine that among the eight of us we had most of what was on the menu (which is a little small)...and everyone absolutely loved the evening. Apparently they were short staffed and we waited a long time for our food. We didn't order appetizers but they had a good selection. Three of us got pizza and they were good. Crust had a good chew with nice blisters. Toppings were a little skimpy. One of our group got the cacio e pepe and she didn't like it. It was way too heavy and dense. They should switch to thin spaghetti. We did try dessert. Back to visit Stellina's in Tyson, and still loving it! Augustus was our server and gave us great guidance for our dining experience. Started with their Carciofo alla Romana - fried artichokes (yum!) with lemon zest, Parmesan cheese, with a smoked mayonnaise dip. Also added their Cuoppo Misto - a perfect medley of fried calamari, shrimp, red octopus, onions, red bell peppers, served over potato chips with a tomato sauce for dipping. We asked them to hold the shrimp and octopus which they did for us. For our main entre we had lasagna, made with their besciamella pasta made onsite with a robust beef and veal ragu. Once again, the food was exceptional. When you add the service by Augustus, and the great conversation shared with Sean their general manager, it's no wonder they remain a restaurant in demand on Capital One Drive! Both Neopolitan pizza and fresh, handmade pasta are constant cravings for me and my wife. We seek out and prioritize restaurants that offer both, and Stellina in Tyson's subsequently caught our eye for its small but appetizing menu. We made a reservation for a Friday dinner and arrived to a busy but quiet dining room about 2/3 full, comprising mostly families with scattered date night/special occasion outings. The dining room itself feels clean and modern while exuding a bit of warmth. We ordered two pizzas and one pasta dish, which ended up being the ideal amount of food for the two of us. A puffy, well developed cornicione with a strong dough flavor characterized the pies here. We found the inner crust a tad too thin for our liking, but this did not detract from our otherwise good experience with the pizzas. Of the two varieties we ordered, we preferred the meaty kick of the picante to the more straightforward tomato flavor of the amatriciana. Our pasta choice, the chitarra de pesce, fared quite well. The dish brought toothsome squid ink noodles tossed with a slightly spicy and garlicky tomato sauce as well as an ample helping of shellfish including squid, octopus, scallops, and shrimp. The flavors hit the mark with the briny quality of the seafood and noodles blending perfectly with the tomato base. Slightly overcooked shrimp represented the only fault of the dish. Service ran smoothly and staff treated us well. Our bill totaled about $75 including tip, which was not bad for the area. The only thing that will prevent us from returning in the near future is the slightly small menu; few other pizzas caught our eye and the remainder of the pasta options do not work for our specific dietary restrictions. Very disappointed with the service. My mom specifically ordered a certain pizza that was similar to my son's order, but when the food came out, they gave her the wrong pizza. When we politely explained the mistake, the staff seemed completely unconcerned and offered no apology at all. They then had to remake my son's pizza because he ended up with the one my mom originally ordered. Mistakes happen, but the lack of care, accountability, and basic customer service was honestly the most frustrating part of the experience. Food was nothing to die for! Will not be coming back. The manager was rude as well. The ambiance was the only nice thing about this place. read more
