All I should have to say is fish tacos! That however wouldnt do justice to this beautifully quaint restaurant located exactly where something like this needed to be for the last 20 years. I grew up in cabin John my whole life and used to frequent the market next door before it was sold. Now that place sucks and thank god Wild Tomato is here to rescue us. Their sandwiches are all pretty much amazing (especially the turkey club) they use heaps of avocado which I love and the staff are all like family and treat customers that way too. I know everyone there personally now and they go out of their way to help me which isn't said about most restaurants these days. Art work inside is really aesthetically pleasing and they have TV's with sports playing so while I pretend listen to my girlfriend I can watch sports. I ordered the vegetable pizza last time and was amazed at how fresh and gourmet it was. This place is great for lunch and dinner. Sitting outside it also a great feature they offer. Wine list is acceptable and the beers are constantly rotating on draft. They usually always have a seasonal and an IPA which will keep any beer snob like myself happy. I have only been here once, today at lunch, but I will return. I had been flipping through other yelp reviews and found one from 2011 where they described an item no longer on the menu, "Smoking Pizza" which is a thin crust topped with smoked mozarella, bacon, chorizo, marinated peppers, mushrooms, and sauce enhanced with chipotle. Why would something like that no longer be on the menu?! I had a backup option in mind when I asked the waitress if I could order that pizza, and to my surprise she said they still serve it to anyone in the know. Visited this via search and recommendations on Yelp the other day. I'm going to give it 4 stars - albeit I'd like to give it 3.5 stars but I'll bump it up based on the menu. The restaurant is small and tables are tightly spaced. This makes it seem louder as conversations from neighboring tables spilled over easily. We got a table near the front door and this being winter, we got a hefty draft every time someone came and went. It seems they could use a barrier between the entrance area and the dining area to help limit this. The place was very full, but the wait was just 5-10 minutes. The wait staff was a little slow to take drink orders and seemed like they were running ragged. That said, he was very friendly and helpful. Ordered two draft beers that were a bit pricey at $6 a pint. We both found the menu very full of things we'd like to try. They was a great range of appetizers, salads, sandwiches, pizzas and entrees. Prices were very reasonable for the restaurant being snuggled in residential Bethesda. We had the smoked salmon appetizer which came with toast points and a salad. It was actually a very nice sized piece of cold smoked salmon (not lox). It was not dry either. A nice light appetizer I though. For dinner, she got the seared tuna salad. Which she loved. Tuna done perfectly rare and very tasty. Highly recommended lo-cal meal. I had the vaunted fish tacos that many recommended on Yelp. I found them as good as recommended. Nice guacomole, chipotle sauce and crunchy cabbage. Squeezed some lime on the fish and it was good to go. I forgot to ask what type of fish it was. Seemed like it was tilapia or mahi mahi. It was fried but only very lightly breaded, so it retained the fish flavors. Desert was the Champagn Chocolate Cream Pie - which essentially was the pie served in a champagne glass. It was very good and did what it was supposed to at the end of the meal. Appetizer, meal for two with two beers, dessert and tip came to about $70. read more

This is a nice small cafe in a small business complex in mainly residential NW DC. They have a small outdoor area which is pleasant. Much better food than the boring menu suggests! We started with corn poblano soup, which came hot and fresh. Just spicy enough and lots of flavor. Excellent fish tacos, had them blackened and it wasn't overpowering. Very good wings, they serve them with a buttermilk ranch sauce that's very very good and not like the crappy sauces one usually gets with wings. Service was excellent, too. Awful awful Pizza. I know the DMV area isn't known for having good pizza, but come on. This place was awful In terms of pizza both times I went. It was like eating pizza and soup. Very very soggy and moist. Just awful. Definitely avoid this place if you're looking for even half decent pizza. Been here a couple of times. Small, comfortable restaurant. Wait staff has always been friendly. Simple healthy fare. Food is decent for a neighborhood place, but wouldn't go out of my way. For some reason this comes up as a gluten-free option on Yelp. IT IS NOT GLUTEN-FREE!! Came here with two people with celiac. Kitchen is small, cannot prevent cross-contamination and the staff told us that they could NOT prepare ANYTHING gluten-free. Kudos to the staff for being honest about it. Ok Damian...you have done it again. Although I have eaten at WT many times I cannot believe I forgot to give a review. Ambience - Very cozy and has a neighborhood feel to it. Locals can call it there own and it shows. It is casual and comfy. The food is great...I have had the fish tacos and they are awesome. The burgers and the pizza are awesome and frankly al the food is great. You gotta go and enjoy a hometown jewel. read more

This review is based on today's lunch only. Met a friend and had their crab cake sandwich special - highly recommend. The crab meat was fresh, light, not heavily battered and the slaw/sauce was the perfect topping. Not sure how long they'll have that on the menu but I'll definitely be back for more. read more

Strolled by at 3PM this Sat. because had heard that the place packs em in even at the 6 seat bar so thought I would just drop by and pick up a take out menu and check the place out. Well as owner Damian left so did 4, 5 people at the bar and VOILA!! I had the whole bar to my self for about an hour. Sophie V. very nice barkeep as is the manager whose name escapes me. The have 1 domestic and 3 imports on tap so I grabbed a Stella and ordered what has been claimed as owner Damian's fave that he eats practically every day. The Smokin' pie $13. It comes with smoked mozarella, bacon, chorizo, marinated peppers and mushrooms. 8 yummy slices and what a sauce on thin crusted slices but they were outta chorizo so they just gave me more bacon! Fine still very delicious! By the time I left at 4:30 place was startin to jump bar already packed. Will be back to try the fish tacos and other dishes. read more

Great food and drinks and the one of the few good places to go out to in the cabin John area that isn't too expensive. No res is fine but I wish they would have more servers. I was out driving Lyft and needed food. I came upon this place after dropping a fare off. I am very happy I stopped!! This place is amazing! I ordered there Old Bay Wings first which were some of the best I have had. Then I ordered the blackened Tuna salad which was excellent to. The dressing which is a lime vinaigrette was not over powering but just right. The tuna was sushi quality and I will definitely come back to this amazing restaurant again and again! read more

I would love to continue to have dinner there as I am a Cabin John local and love to support the community-BUT. And this is a big but-they have nothing for me to eat except salad as I a vegan. And even with the salad you have to ask for balsamic vingarette dressing. As a restaurant that is named the Wild Tomato you would think there would be more options to chose from. I do know that they added on a veggie burger but this veggie burger has egg in it! Please change your menu to healthier options. read more

I found myself alone tonight and decided to head to Wild Tomato to see what all the fuss is about. I had a "Smokin'" pizza and a glass of cabernet. Both were adequate. For me, Wild Tomato turned out not to be about the food at all. After being seated I waited exactly 6 minutes for my presence to be acknowledged and only to be told "I'll be right with you." Indeed, a minute later I was attended to. I ordered my pizza, a glass of water, and a glass of wine. The wine came right away. The water was a no-show until I managed to grab the waiter some 10 minutes later. The pizza arrived 27 minutes after I ordered it! 27 minutes! This restaurant is all the rage in Cabin John. When I left about 7:15 there were hoards of people evidently more patient than I waiting to pounce on the newly-freed space. For a restaurant in such evident disarray to so obviously fill a need in a tiny community demonstrates not the quality of the restaurant, but the desperation of the community. Wild Tomato may be an oasis in a gastronomic desert, but I'd suggest leaving it to the locals. read more

Great little stone oven pizza. Waiters and staff super nice and attentive. Pizza sizes aren't too big. We got cheese, margarita, and veggie pizzas. All three were good but I think veggie was the best. Parking can get crowded if coming here for dinner. We came on a Monday night so I was surprised to see so many cars but I guess because of location since it in this little plaza with three or four other restaurants it can get busy in the parking lot. Go around back there is more parking there. Locals seamed to love it. Looks like there was a really nice place next door called Fish Tacos food smelled really good so I'll have to come back. read more

The fish tacos were awesome. The Yelp listing says good for kids but I disagree...the place is too small and cramped to take little ones. Plus there is no kids menu, and the prices are on the moderate side, so ordering a whole meal for a little one makes the bill go up quickly. Bigger kids would be OK but definitely not 5 and under. We and the Tomato are in a long-term relationship. We love this place. The staff are friendly. The vibe is casual and fun, almost like a neighborhood get-together. We've had the fish tacos (many times), steak frites, salmon, pizza, hummus app, wedge salad, and other things I can't remember right now. I haven't had anything I did not love. We took my father-in-law here and he loved their mashed potatoes, so they brought him a whole separate dish of just mashed taters. As others have said, the place is small and they don't take reservations, so you might have a wait--but not bad. Also love the art on the walls. This little whole in the wall in Cabin John was a nice change of pace. The place is small and the seating is really limited. They do not take reservations either so be prepared to wait. It was worth the 30 minute wait though. The chopped salad looked very good as well as the burger. I had the mesclun salad and the salmon dinner. The restaurant was so cold that I had to eat wearing my coat. I don't consider this a reasonable way to have dinner at a restaurant. The manager said that they were aware of the issue but that the landlords weren't allowing them to build a vestibule because they were in a strip center. Well that isn't my issue as a customer. My go to restaurant whenever I don't know where to go for dinner. Love this place! Everything I've had here has been excellent! I love their grilled romaine salad with salmon and the steak frites. They give you pretty large portions for the price point. I also LOVE their pizza. I wasn't expecting it to be great since this isn't a pizzeria but it rocks. This place is great. I have been here three times, ordered different meals every time and loved them all. Staff is friendly, helpful, FUNNY and attentive. I recommend their fish tacos or chicken club w/ avacado. Make sure to get there early in the evening if you want dinner otherwise you will have to wait as the place is pretty small. New to the neighborhood and I tried out the local eatery in Cabin John area. Love it. Comfy, warm, neighborhood-like but not cliquey, unique food, tasty and fresh. Staff is casual but not your friend, which I like alot! Go fish tacos! Wish they would improve the outdoor furniture for next Spring and possible find a way to shield the sun beating down on you. Since moving to DC the one thing that has struck me time and again is just how horrid the food around here is, so whenever you find a gem like Wild Tomato you're ecstatic. To be fair, anywhere else in the country I'd probably give this 4 stars, but... here in DC this is 5 stars, easy. The parking sucks, but that's about the worst thing I can say about the restaurant. Hands down, Wild Tomato has THE BEST WINGS IN DC. They are cooked PERFECTLY! The honey BBQ sauce is only the 2nd or 3rd best I've ever had, but overall... they are absolutely amazing. The Pizza is not bad, but not amazing, but still it's good. Other than the wings none of the food is truly striking and amazing, but it's all good and far superior to anything comparable in the area. Plus the restaurant is really "cute." I'm so glad I found this restaurant, and I'm sure I'll now be a regular. This is a must go, definitely check it out! read more

I've only dine here once so I can't comment on the entire menu, however I think I had the best mussels I've ever had. I ordered the tomato based broth and it was so good. Great sopped with the crostini accompanying it but so good you'll want to use the spoon to get every drop. The service was friendly and knowledgeable. My husband and I also ordered the beet salad (loved it) and the shrimp pizza. Didn't wow me but the crust was good, I'll try another kind next time. Love to see an independent retaurant doing well. read more
