Our group had a wonderful experience- had 12 people - owner did a great job dividing everyone up and selecting guides. We had 6 kids - ranging from 5-12 years old. Ended up pairing 1 kid + 1 adult + 1 guide. The guides were patient and fun with them all. They adjusted the teaching based on skill level and age. Our expectations were low (because fishing is fickle), but everyone had success catching multiple fish - even the littles! Taryn and Jake were my immediate family's guides and they were amazingly knowledgeable about the area / how to fish it, silly with the kids, and easy to talk to. We really appreciated the experience - it was one of our favorite activities during our Big Sky visit. Thanks again! FYI if you have kids under 10 you'll want to bring your own waders for them - easy to buy on Amazon!

I would highly recommend Wild Trout for your next fishing trip. There are a lot of guides in the area that have great reviews as well, but you won't go wrong with Wild Trout. We had a group of 6 so we did 2 guides for walk/wade in the Gallatin River. One group of 3 had Mike and our group had Luke. I would highly recommend you request Luke for your trip. He's been fly fishing for 30+ years, and is a great instructor. As first time anglers, we learned a lot from Luke and were able to catch a relatively good amount of fish! He is very knowledgeable and patient. We had such a great time and already are trying to figure out when we can fly fish again. Worth the time and money! There are extra fees but they are clearly stated on the website. It's $20 to rent equipment, a 4% resort fee, $52ish fishing license.

Lucky enough to learn to fly fish the Gallatin with Wild Trout Outfitters! From the moment I called to make the reservation JD was patient and friendly. Brenden was our guide for this half day wade and walk from 730am-12. JD and Brenden provided everything we needed for an enjoyable day fly fishing. Our 18 year old son caught 4 fish and had the time of his life as did we. Brenden was beyond patient, knowledgeable and helpful anytime we needed assistance. Highly recommend giving this a try while in Big Sky!

I highly recommend Wild Trout Outfitters for your Montana fishing experience. My husband and I recently traveled to Yellowstone and Big Sky. We decided to go fishing in the Gallatin River. We picked Wild Trout Outfitters because the drive from Bozeman wasn't too far and they had the most inclusive pricing. There were other companies that had much higher prices of rentals, but Wild Trout's rental equipment prices were very reasonable. They also helped us know what to wear and sent us a link to get our fishing licenses. When we got out there, our guide Mike started with the basics. We caught a fish on one of our first casts. It was a relaxing time in beautiful scenery and we didn't have to worry about anything thanks to Wild Trout.

My husband and I went on a trip with Tom. We had a blast and caught a bunch of fish! He was very patient with an amateur fly fisherman. I went for the sightseeing, and Tom was so knowledgeable about the area and made sure I had a great time too. The boat lunch was legit as well. 100% would book again.

We went for a half day on the Gallatin with Luke and Matt as guides. We had a great time and our guides were excellent. Highly recommend this experience when in the Big Sky area!

    Lunch picnic.

Had a fantastic day on The Madison River float. We caught a lot of fish (rainbows, brownies and some white fish). Our guide, Tom Gardner, was great. Helpful, patient and really knows the area. We highly recommend Tom! They even served us a "white tablecloth" lunch. Beautiful way to depend The 4th of July!

An INCREDIBLE Big Sky fishing experience and a fabulous Yellowstone Park guides tour and fishing. Brendan was laid back, super informative and experience guide. The vehicle was clean and Covid friendly. All protocol was followed and we had a wonder experience! (And for you that is giving them a 1 star rating, you apparently must suffer from little trout syndrome ‍

We went out with Joe today and our kids (11 and 9) went out with Matt. None of us knew what we were doing when we started yet ALL of us had a great time and caught (and released) fish. Beautiful scenery, gorgeous river, patient and skilled instructors. HIGHLY RECOMMEND! Oh and Matt took lots of great pictures of the kids and sent them to us. What fun!

Luke was a fantastic guide - clearly knew his stuff, great teacher, and had three generations on the fish during our half-day trip.

East Slope Outdoors - Unsightly pull on front of pullover

I was really excited to purchase a merino wool pullover from East Slope Outfitters in Big Sky Town…read moreCenter. It was performing well, so I went back the next day and purchased a second one. Unfortunately, the first pullover started developing pulls almost immediately. One particularly long pull in the front snagged on something as minor as my cuticle--something that shouldn't even be possible. I also noticed additional pulls on the back, even though I had been careful with it. When I went into the store to discuss the issue, an employee was empathetic and directed me to the manager. However, the manager--a brunette helping a customer with ski goggles--was completely dismissive. When I explained the situation, she responded with, "Oh, it must have pulled on something." I acknowledged that it caught on my nail, but I was shocked that such an expensive pullover would be so fragile. Rather than offering any assistance or even engaging in a conversation about product quality, she quickly shut it down, saying they couldn't do anything since I had already had it for a few days. For a store selling high-end outdoor gear, I expected better durability and customer support. Spending around $130, I at least hoped for a discussion about quality assurance or a possible exchange. Instead, I was met with indifference. It felt like they cater more to tourists passing through than to customers who actually care about their purchases. If you're looking for durable gear from a store that stands behind its products, I'd recommend looking elsewhere.

When I picked up the board, they had not only performed the previously discussed repairs, but they also did a bunch of p-tex work on the base and a wax, and still charged me the previously agreed upon price. I'll definitely be back here next time I need tuning work done.

What a fantastic day we had touring the lower loop of Yellowstone National Park with Yellowstone…read moreTouring Company / Wild Trout Outfitters. Arranging the tour on the phone was easy and quick. We had the choice of having pickup at our condo in Big Sky or meeting at the storefront on Highway 191. We chose to meet at the store to maximize our 10 tour time which starts end ends when the driver leaves the parking lot. Check in was simple. Each participant had to sign a waiver and then we were off. The Sprinter van was clean and very spacious with seating for 10 although we had a private tour for 4. Pricing for private tours are flat rate and we chose the 1-5 participants. Our tour guide, Mat, was amazing. He kept us entertained on the way to the park with stories and factoids. In addition to showing us the "usual suspects," took us to places that are not listed in the guidebooks. He varied the route a bit at times to accommodate the geyser schedules and spend as little time as possible waiting for eruptions. All the time, he was filling our heads with area info. He was terrific at spotting wildlife for us as well. When we found ourselves with a little extra time at the end our our tour. He stopped at two additional sites that people normally drive right by. We were thrilled with his service. While this tour does not supply food, they have a cooler on board with plenty of ice, soft drinks, bottled water and space for the food that we brought. We packed a lunch and Mat found us a table at the edge of Yellowstone Lake were we stopped and ate on a checkerboard tablecloth - courtesy of Mat. If we were to come back, we would absolutely arrange for the Upper Loop tour with this company and possibly even a fly-fishing trip. Thanks to Mat and YTC for a great day.

Since our time was limited and the park so large we decided to hire a tour guide for one day. Upon researching the options I discovered there are a lot of ways to tour Yellowstone, however having the disability of chemical sensitivity I found it challenging to choose one. Ultimately after many phone conversations I talked with J.D. Bingham at Yellowstone Touring Company/Wild Trout Outfitters. Based on our telephone conversation I was confident that J.D. understood my special needs and would be able to accommodate our party of nine persons, which included children and elderly. On the day of the tour our guide Paul picked us up at or rental house in Big Sky right on schedule. That was no small feat in itself as the house was VERY out of the way on the side of a mountain at 8200 feet. The vehicle was clean, spacious and comfortable for all of us. More importantly, per my request for my chemical sensitivity, both Paul and the vehicle were completely fragrance free. Paul asked us questions about what we were looking to get out of the tour, and then designed our day around our specific requests. It could not have been any better. He was knowledgeable not only about Yellowstone but about where we were staying in Big Sky. He was patient with both the children and the elderly. He is an excellent driver and we all felt quite safe in his hands the whole time. The sights that he chose for us were perfect. He knew everything from which rest rooms were most likely to be cleanest, (very important for the ladies), to where to find the bison. All in all, I cannot say enough about our tour with Paul from Yellowstone Touring Company. I would do it again in a heartbeat, and recommend him to anyone. Also after our interactions with J.D., I would also imagine his fishing guides from Wild Trout Outfitters to be as special and would have tried that also if we'd had more time.
