Luckily, I had made reservations - even though they didn't call me back to confirm, and argued that my phone was shut off, but whatever - I had seats on the bus for all of us. Speaking of the bus, it was hot. The windows were closed and the air was not on in the back, and it was 75 degrees outside. Moving on, we took a short trip to the distillery building. It looked modernized and made specifically for tours. Up a couple of flights of stairs, we were able to look at a couple of rooms behind glass, take a trip through the fermenting tanks room, and see a few other spots. Downstairs and back on the hot bus to take a short ride to the barrel house A. It was nice and cool inside. One more hot bus ride, and we were back to the visitor's center. We walked up a ramp and ended in a tasting area. I picked the Wild Turkey Select and Wild Turkey Honey Stinger. The Select was pretty smooth and something I could enjoy sipping. The Stinger, however, was pretty amazing. The sting is ghost pepper! It leaves a warm sensation in your mouth and throat. I could really get into this one. You have to try it. After tasting, we browsed the gift shop and got our Bourbon Trail passports stamped. Short and sweet, this tour is the lowest on my list so far. read more

Great tour, I've read previous reviews which said the gift shop was "limited" that definitely is no longer the case, the Wild Turkey gift shop is big with all kind of products. This tour is nice because because most of talking by the guide is on the bus making her easy to hear. She was was newer and excited to be to be there and her enthusiasm carried over to the group. The tasting was good and tried a couple of pours I would not purchased. Good experience. Well worth you time if a bourbon fan. Down the ramp from the gift shop there is a wall Wild Turkey history and some knowledge how they make bourbon from the KY River. Here is photo of my "souvenir" bottle. read more

I was soo impressed with this particular distillery. This was actually my second stop on the bourbon trail. The first was in the back woods distillery that is Maker's Mark. I found I preferred touring Wild Turkey a little more. I felt like the tour and history were more interesting. Also, it was far easier to get to WT than MM. Waaay easier. The end of the tour allows you to sample 2 of their 6 options (you can share 4 total if you go with a partner). I believe I sampled more at MM, but I liked the taste of the WT better especially the American Honey Sting. Oh man, that's good stuff. A necessary stop on the trail. read more

Great tour of the distillery!! Edwina was very friendly and knowledgeable as a tour guide. You get shuttled around the property but there are 3 flights of stairs to go up - no big deal but to some may be an inconvenience. They also take you into one of the barrel warehouses where one of the Ghost Hunters show was filmed- apparently it's haunted, creepy!! The tour lasts about an hour; at the end you get to try a minuscule amount of 4 different bourbons and get to keep a pretty nice wild turkey glass. read more

Beautiful views, nice place, too busy for us to get on tour or get a tasting. Not much of that old time Kentucky hospitality at this place. There's a new building-sort of a base for tours-this place ain't quite the same as I remember. If you love Kentucky Bourbon then Wild Turkey Distillery is one of the places you need to visit. I got to visit as part of the Kentucky Bourbon Affair event as they hosted a Barrel Proof Sharpshooter Challenge. I had such a blast. Eddie Russell and Jimmy Russell made us feel at home. They treated the group like we were their family. We got to skeet shoot. We were challenged as a group to recreate one of the blends and our group won it. They treated us to lunch and a tour. I highly recommend that you do the bourbon tour and make sure this is one of your stops. You won't be disappointed. The prices are reasonable. The tour is about an hour. read more

This was the second distillery that we visited on the same day. While it was a good tour and tasting, it wasn't a 5-star like the other one. I had a bit of a bad taste in my mouth from the beginning when the ladies who 'greeted' us upon entering the facility were a bit short and impatient when speaking to us. We were immediately told that we either had to go on the tour (which was leaving at that very moment) or wait until it returned (45 minutes or so) to participate in a tasting. We didn't relish the thought of standing in the relatively small gift shop for 45 minutes waiting to taste, so we went on the tour. The tour was good and very informative. A bus took us to the various buildings and we got out to tour inside. Upon return to the tasting area we tasted Russell's Reserve single barrel, Rare Breed, Russell's Reserve and the American Honey. At the end of the tasting we were given a Wild Turkey glass to take home. The tasting room looks over the Kentucky River and old railroad trellis that previously brought supplies to the distillery. Cost for the tasting and tour was $10 per person. All-in-all it was nice and had I not just had a 5-star experience at another distillery, I might considered this a 5-star. But in comparison, it was a 4-star for me. read more

Wild Turkey is my favorite bourbon by far, so that automatically makes the tour at least a 7. The tour guide, Bubba, was really great and made the tour what it was. He was knowledgeable and funny. I was also able to try two of the burbons, Rare Breed & American Honey Spice, I have never had before and loved them both. They will be on my future buy list, I can guarantee it. Then finally, I bought myself the Master's Keep Decades and it was signed by one of the Master Distillers, Eddie. It was a fantastic experience and I am glad we made the trip to see it. (Side note: my favorite burbon is Wild Turkey, but my favorite wiskey is Jameson. I learned that Jameson uses Wild Turkey's old barrels, which explains why I like Jameson so much.) The setting is very pretty and the view of the bridge is really neat. I hadn't had Wild Turkey since college and it was good to sample again. Absolutely loved meeting Jimmy Russell and having the privilege of having some bottles signed. We made a very impromptu trip to KY from Michigan for our 33rd wedding anniversary, not realizing that National Bourbon Day fell on this weekend. Had a great time here. Taking family from Germany on the bourbon trail. Maybe not with the same cute charm as some if the other distilleries, but our tour guide made up for it. Bubba was funny and smart and a little bit sassy! He gave us his nice chicken recipe (one reason why i got a bottle of American Honey, the best flavored bourbon). Was passing through on the way home from a road trip cross country. Stopped in because its my husbands favorite bourbon. First of all it was so difficult to find my way anywhere, had to find someone to ask where the gift shop was. Anyway I got the directions from someone working there and made my way down to the gift shop. Got there a few minutes past closing (I knew I would be cutting it close but I would have been in time had the place had any sort of signs that made sense) and I saw they were closed. I was the only one there, except 2 visitors that were still inside, and tried explaining myself and that I just wanted to buy something quickly. Their response was a very short and abrupt no, we open at 9am tomorrow. I then explained I wasn't staying and was headed back to NY tonight to which they said nothing and closed the door. I understand you have to shut the door sometime, but 5 minutes after closing for 1 person who just wanted a gift (not a tour or anything crazy) is just rude and bad business! Unfortunately they have lost a lifelong customer based on principle alone. read more

So of all the local distilled spirits this is my least favorite as its mass marketed and average. That said on a Saturday. Most places won't cater to you if you didn't book a tour months in advance. Here there is an awesome sampling bar that overlooks a gorge with people bunjee jumping off a railroad bridge. Being wild Turkey is an average whiskey. We almost passed on visiting. Thank heavens we didn't. Go out back. Pay $10 and have a sample. Worth every minute just for that. read more

Solid and informative tour of a massive distillery. They require you to get on a tour bus to see the grounds, which isn't ideal but you do get to see a lot. The tasting includes four drinks and they give you a glass at the end. read more

I wasn't planning I going to Wild Turkey actually, but it ended up being my favorite spot so far on the bourbon trail (full disclosure we have only been here and woodford so far, no knocks on woodford it was great too!). But back to Wild Turkey, the new visitors center was a great venue for the bourbon tasting with beautiful views. I loved the old school rick houses. As everyone says, the tour with Bubba is the best. There is a lot of information given and a lot of things to see and experience. And you get a tasting and great views of the countryside. You get to see the cooking areas, the grounds and all the warehouses, and actually get to go inside a warehouse built in the late 1800s. Absolutely LOVED our tour guide Bubba! He was so informative, very friendly and very funny! We visited on a Friday afternoon and were able to get on a tour just half an hour later. The visitor's center was a beautiful place to hang out - especially the history wall and bar. I even got to try something I had never had before (American Honey Sting) at the small bar inside prior to our tour. For being such a large, commercial operation, the tour felt personable. I also enjoyed the shuttle from place to place seeing as their location is very spread out and too much to walk back and forth to/from. If you're visiting the Bourbon Trail, I highly recommend visiting Wild Turkey, but then visit some of the other, smaller distilleries too so you get some of everything. read more

The Wild Turkey tour/tasting is a must if you are traveling the Kentucky Bourbon Trail (or even if you are not). Seeing the distillery and barrel warehouse, overlooking the Kentucky River, is worth the trip, but the highlight is showing up when Jimmy Russell is hanging out in the visitors center. He has been master distiller at Wild Turkey longer than I've been alive, earning him the title of "Buddha of Bourbon." If he is there when you take your tour, make sure to stop and talk with him. First Distillery we visited for the day and it was the best part of the entire day!!!! I am a Bourbon girl through and through so I can be kind of a snob when it comes to tours and their products. But I have to say the trip started out with a beautiful drive and Mr. Russel himself hanging out and welcoming us. We got a fantastic tour by Bubba and I learned so many things I didn't even know about the industry. The buildings were stunning and the sheer size of their stuff is kinda insane! The campus was cool to drive through especially with the bus making everything accessible. Love the view from the tasting room especially of the gorgeous bridge. If you like bourbon you need to take this tour. I'm ashamed to say I forgot our tour guides name, but he's the best one, he'll tell you so. He was a great guy and I salute him for having served in the USMC. The tour was informative and the tasting was great. I've never been a rye fan, but will probably try theirs, again. Hard to review. We were touring distilleries on 11/28/16 and had just finished Maker's Mark in Loretto, KY. (Nice BTW) We looked at the map and figured we could make it to Wild Turkey before 5PM. We broke a few speed limits getting there, but rolled up to the gift shop at 4:55. I walked through the door and told the girls behind the counter how proud we were to have made it in time to shop. One girl gave us the major stink eye and said, "We're already closed. We've shut down the registers." I asked if we could just look around and she wouldn't answer. I did anyway, but left quickly with all the hostile staring the girl was doing. Oh well, plenty of distilleries out there. read more
