We came in yesterday at 4pm....We knew the tours were already done for the day, but wanted to have a tasting and do a little shopping. Asked the women at the counter if we could dona tasting. She seamed to be irritated by the question, but said we can taste when the last tour comes back. Ok, sounds good! We are looking around the gift shop, and try to engage in conversation with the staff.....nothing. very involved in what they were doing and talking to each other only. The vibe changed dramatically, and we decided to move on. Said thank you, and to have a nice night on our way out. Silence....no reply, or acknowledgement. Out of all the distilleries we visited, this was definitely the least inviting....what a shame...We high recommend visiting "ALL" other distilleries, and completely passing on Wild Turkey. The wild turkey distillery is a must see when traveling through Kentucky. The staff is awesome and extremely knowledgeable about their bourbon! We were able to take a tour, learn the background of wild turkey & the best part was the taste testing. The gift shop is immaculate and they've got all the great bourbons to get you started. Let me start by saying, I love bourbon. With that said, some of my fellow Yelpers went on a tour one fun Sunday. What better way to spend a Sunday, but day drinking? Right? Any who, our group was running a bit behind because of me. Luckily we arrived at the Distillery in the nick of time for the tour we intended to be on. For starters, the bus was like a "Hell Simulator". I mean it was burning up in there. The tour guide was an older man with perpetual cotton mouth. The corners of his lips kept crusting up. It was a bit distracting and gross to say the least. The tour itself was not bad at all aside from the mouth crust. The facility is HUGE and almost completely ran by 2 people in a room. WTF? Here lately we have been on a few Distillery tours for the Bourbon Trail Stamps, but this specific place is too automated for my taste. I did enjoy hearing about how they got their name. I think the Wild Turkey name coming from a hunting weekend drink was classic. I think hearing how bourbon distilleries get their name is my second favorite part of the tour. First part would have to be the tasting. With out a doubt. The tasting room at Wild Turkey over looks the river. It is almost as if you are just floating on the side of the cliff while sampling their wares. The most shocking tasting I had would have to have been the American Honey Sting. I really didn't think I would like it, but it is their signature American Honey with a bit of Heat in it. SO GOOD! It is a must try. Don't forget to get your passport stamped. read more

The overlook is beautiful and I wish we could have had more time to spend there to have a cocktail on that back porch. Jimmy Russell was there signing bottles and tin tacks and such. One of the bartenders in Louisville said he's such a cool dude and will sit and just hang out. Said he has a beautiful view of life. I can see why :) read more

The Wild Turkey distillery was our second stop on the trail. We did the full tour. While it is not traditionally beautiful, the black soot on the buildings from the bourbon production give it an authentic feel. I loved the musty, old wood & whiskey smell of the barrel rooms. In the summer they shut down production, so if you want to see it made, come Sept - May. The tasting room is beautiful with lots of open rafters and a gorgeous view of the KY River Valley. I don't like their product as much as the some of the other places, but the distillery, gift shop, grounds, and location are cool. read more

Wild turkey was our third stop on the Bourbon Trail and it did not disappoint! We opted for the tour and tasting and enjoyed the history info and amazing views while we waited. Our tour guide was Bubba, a retired drill sergeant who made our experience amazing! He was hilarious, insightful, and so easy going. Wild Turkey is extremely lucky to have him!! The tour was great and we learned about bourbon making in general, bourbon making at Wild Turkey, and tons of fun stories about the process and people involved over time. We also got to meet Jimmy Russell, Wild Turkey's master distiller and he signed a bottle of Russell's reserve for us! We were given four samples at the end including Wild Honey and the price was average and worth every penny. read more

Another stop on the Bourbon Trail marked off my list. Unfortunately my trip here was less than stellar. We came here on Labor day weekend, so it was super, super busy and the standard tour was sold out, like all day. We had tried calling before arriving to ask (because it was a holiday weekend), but no one was answering the phone. BUT they offered "Premium Warehouse Tour", so we opted for that, even though it was significantly more expensive than the standard tour($20 vs the standard $11). Whatever, we were excited. They load you in bus and take you out to one of their oldest warehouse. We then spent maybe 10 minutes AT the warehouse (this includes time to and from the bus), and then went back to the bus and down the road to a private tasting room. It was nice because we got to taste premium samples (Decades, 101, etc) but instead of getting information bourbon, it was more just our guide have conversations with the other people on the tour and talking about all the times she interacted with the master distiller. I expected to learn more about the bourbon or what was different or special about the distill process for the premium brands/kinds. I liked the samples, they were good, but maybe if we had a better more engaging guide, it would have been more worth the premium tour. I would like to give Wild Turkey a second chance on a more regular/non-holiday weekend, but as is unless you are looking for fancier samples, just opt for the standard tour. read more

The buses are air conditioned..... our tour guide was very good and this is where I found out they do vet discounts. The tour itself was interesting as they showed where they store the whiskey and the stills. Apparently right now they are closing the production for the summer due to heat. I didn't love the samples because I am not a wild turkey fan. Interesting enough.... the only thing that changes with wild turkey is a bottling thing.... read more

Very good tour, great history and cool location. Tasting room is well done. You will enjoy this experience. The master distilling family seems to be around most days to interact. I asked them to sign my bottle, which they did gracefully. I've been on most of the Bourbon trail tours and this is a good one. Not a lot of new stuff to learn if you are familiar with the industry, but it has a good story. Take some time and walk around outside the tasting room and take in some of the views of he Kentucky river valley. read more

This review is not about the bourbon, but the distillery. After going on several hour long tours, they would not let us purchase a tasting only, even at the full tour price which I was happy to pay. I would have paid for the tasting and even bought some bottles, but instead I left because I didn't want to learn, for the 10th time, how bourbon is made. They could have shared the love of bourbon but instead was rudely turned away. read more

This was a fun distillery. First of all, they have "wild turkeys" made out of old barrels for you to sit on and get your picture taken. There are amazing views of the bridge, and a timeline of the history of the distillery for you to browse while you wait for your tour. The tour itself was informative, and the tour guide was funny and very much into his job. Jimmy Russell was in the gift shop signing bottles for guests. The overall feel was very friendly and welcoming. The tasting was a small sample of two bourbons of your choice. You got small souvenir rocks glasses with the tour as well. read more

This was an impromptu stop just for a tasting. We decided not to do a tour and had just a tasting instead. Our guide was knowledgeable and fun. The grounds have a great view. My only real complaint is that our sampling glasses were little plastic cups. This was odd and not my favorite way to drink bourbon. read more

Not a fan of Wild Turkey, however this distillery is still a great stop along the Bourbon Trail. It feels like most of the distilleries have figured out that many folks don't need/want to do a full tour at every distillery (especially if you've been through the bourbon manufacturing and general history a few times before), and so they alternate tours and tastings every half hour. The tasting starts off with a quick ten minute video about the history of Wild Turkey, and you get introduced to the master distiller and his son. They also highlight what makes Wild Turkey a bit different from other distillers. The tasting itself is somewhat limited. You get to choose 2 different bourbons to sample. Hopefully your sampling with a friend/partner, and so you can get a chance to try 4! Once you're done, you can go outside to enjoy breathtaking views of the bridges spanning the Ohio(?) river in the background. And also get on the barrels converted into turkeys that you can mount for a silly photo. read more

Touring the Wild Turkey Distillery was the highlight of our Bourbon Trail experience. The staff was wonderful, we hit traffic driving in from Louisville and missed our tour by less than 5 minutes, as soon as we rushed into the visitors center the staff arranged for the tour bus to come back and pick us up. The tour guide was knowledgeable and had a good sense of humor. The property is massive and I felt we were able to see a large portion of it while on the tour. The tasting was about the same as other stops on the trail and the museum display was great in providing a timeline for the history of Wild Turkey. The best part was meeting and speaking with Jimmy Russell. That's something we didn't get on any other tour. He was so kind and friendly. I'd recommend this as a must stop on the Bourbon Trail. read more

First I have to say that the crew of ladies working today 8-6-2015 in the afternoon were the Best of the Best! They were extremely pleasant , helpful, informative and very pleasant to spend an afternoon with. when we got out of the car, since it had been raining, the bourbon smell was in the air it smelled so good. I can only hope you have a better experience! I did the entire Bourbon trail and this was least favorite of them all. Worst that the poor quality of Bourbon was the poor service and confrontational staff. If you are doing the trail I highly recommend getting your passport stamped and moving on to better tasting Bourbon. read more

Giving this experience a 3 because we only wanted to do the tasting portion on the tour (and even pay the same price just did not have the stamina to walk around property or climb 30 stairs) but staff said it was not possible unless we waited an hour for the tour to come back even though their was no one else in the gift shop but us and 4 staffers standing around twiddling their thumbs. I understand the process of the schedules but customers that are handicap should be giving another option if not able to do the full climbing stair tour.
