We have stayed here a few times and never had any issues. This last time (June 2021) was totally different. We had to vacuum right when we walked in as it clearly had not been done. There were other obvious signs that the care and cleanliness of this resort have gone down hill; there was an inch of dust on the ceiling fans, rings around the toilet and duct tape holding carpet together where it met the tile in a bathroom. I also called a few days before check-in to ask if they had pack n' plays to borrow and they told me they would put one in my room. When we got our bill I noticed I was charged $20 to "rent" it. When I called after our stay to let them know they should have told me it would cost money--in which case we would have just brought our own--they said they couldn't refund me because it had been used. I let the woman answering the phone (who was very nice) know all the cleanliness issues we ran into and she said she would let the manager know and further expand on the pack n' play issue. It's been about a week and a half and I still haven't heard anything. Our family will be booking another place in Nisswa for our annual trip. read more

Just spent a week at this resort and although it could have been better we did enjoy ourselves. As a courtesy to others, I want to make sure you know what to ask when you contact them. First of all, they are in the villa ownership business. From what I can tell, they utilize cabin rentals for cash flow and hopefully entice you to upgrade to renting the villas or buying one. As a result, I do not in my opinion believe they really care to put a lot of effort into the cabins, The cabins are in the midst of upgrades but several are missing key components - example, our cabin #7, was very much upgraded with a knotty pine interior but the deck had a bolt missing from a post which could cause an unpleasant accident. Also for some reason with all the upgrades to this cabin, they did not put in a oven. It did have a counter top stove. Also the bed above my daughter's bunk bed had a sliced open mattress which looked like it might have been infested at one point. Some other members of my family had also rented cabins and they experienced much, much worse than us. Cabin 5 is the same rental price as 7 but has no upgrades and is very, very rustic. Cabin 3 has a water heater in the only bedroom which was concerning. Also that particular cabin was missing window coverings so obviously a privacy concern. In fairness, they have a great beach, a nice dock system (although it needs padding) and an excellent fish cleaning building with running water, and a garbage disposal for fish guts. The staff on premise is very friendly and helpful when contacted. Suggestions - get all cabins up to date and some of the fixes needed. Put a bit more effort in the cabin business. Leave a log book in the cabins for your customers to relay concerns for fixes as well. read more

This was our first time staying here, and it had been recommended by a family friend 2 years ago. We had it booked for last summer (2020) but postponed due to COVID. First off I will say this place has the potential to be very nice. We stayed in Villa 34 and it was very spacious for our large group. We loved the deck, screened in porch, and large dining table. Unfortunately it was NOT clean. As soon as we arrived we had to sweep the entire place as it was crunchy underfoot. We called the office to ask for a mop, but the cleaning supplies were locked up. We ended up buying a swiffer and giving the whole place a clean, and trust me it needed it. On top of this the shower curtains were dirty/moldy and ripped; I avoided touching them at all costs. The running water was yellow. Giving my one year old a bath was extremely concerning. The entire unit smelled like animals, which they allow in so that makes sense. The carpet needed a serious clean as well, but there was no vacuum and we were not buying one. We rented their pontoon for 3 of the days, and when we went to pick it up it was, to be frank, a piece of crap. We asked for the one that was shown in the photos on the website, and they "weren't sure where it was". Needless to say we cancelled the other two days of our rental and went elsewhere. Overall I would not stay here again and would not recommend unless some serious changes were made. This was our first and last visit to this resort. We met up with my brother's family from OH, and we traveled from WA. We chose this resort b/c of the space provided in the villas, and the fact that we could rent a boat for fishing onsite. While we had a good time, and enjoyed our time with family, we will not return to this property. I am listing below the good, bad and the ugly. With some improvements, this resort could be a stellar property. GOOD: (+)villa is very spacious, perfect for large family gatherings, excellent view of lake from deck, and has its own firepit, kids loved the pool table downstairs (+) reasonable rental rate; we got a special "stay for 7 nts, pay for 5" rate (+) gym onsite is good size, husband used this almost every day, one of the reasons we chose this property (+) only a 10 min drive to Nisswa, an adorable small town (+) Dee dee in the office had great customer service skills - very personable and friendly (+) new playset by beach area was great for our 4 year old - great view of lake BAD: (-) beach area is unkempt, with equipment strewn about; sand never raked, so old bandaids and bird poop are found in mornings; used diaper left for 2 days near playset area; an employee needs to be assigned to manage/ tidy up this space daily (-) nice to have free use of kayaks, but equipment is all broken (no backs in kayak), and don't count on lifejackets - few that were there were in very sad shape (-) property is advertised to have a "lodge" but this is a building near beach area that has ice creams and apparel locked up - to get access you must call the already over stressed front desk staff to come and unlock for you (-) the pontoon we rented was in rough shape; the shifter handle looked as if it would break at any moment (-) several of the front desk employees seemed very stressed out, like there is not enough help for property (which is also visible) (-) pool was not in operation until our day of departure, due to a child pooping in pool (obviously not resort's fault), but it took from Mon- Fri to get pool up and running, so we didn't get to use it UGLY: (-) (-) Bruce, the grounds keeper/ maintenance man/ jack of all trades was VERY RUDE to us - came to our villa door and yelled at me b/c he couldn't find the key to the pontoon boat we used the day prior; I had returned it to the front office the evening before (Connie, the front desk worker, told me to do so), but it couldn't be located the next morning. He threw up his hands and yelled "the keys stay in the boat!!! why did you take it out????" . He then stormed off, shaking his head. We did not know this rule and were trying to prevent someone from taking off with the boat. This was all very upsetting. Especially since this man lives on property. We tried to steer clear of him the rest of the trip. Overall, you can see this place has some great qualities, and ones that need improvement. If you bring your own fishing boat and don't plan to use the beach area, you are probably fine. The cabins are in rough shape though (according to other guest I spoke with on the beach). read more

The staff was super friendly and helpful. let us check in early and check out late. the beach was perfect for the kids! they provide kayaks and canoes and boards. Perfect! the boat landing was a bit tight but my hubs can drive, so... We stayed in cabin 12. staff delivered us fire wood when we requested. the AC unit was not working well, needs upgraded and cleaned. my husband cleaned the filter and it actually worked much better. the Iron in the water is a bit rough. turned my blonde children a bit orange. All in all, we would stay again. it was a wonderful week! My thanks to the staff who met our every need and saved our vacation! read more

Just spent the week of July 19th to the 26th there. The beach & swimming area were excellent, and the fishing was good. The cabins looked great from the outside, but needed a lot of maintenance inside. Bad windows, broken blinds, big gaps in exterior door, broken freezer door on refrigerator, broken handle on window no towel bars in washroom, and very few electrical outlets in the cabins. We were in cabin 3 and it was over $950. for a one bedroom for the week. The A/C just blew air around, no cold air. The worst problem was the BROWN SMELLY WATER. It was disgusting and very low pressure in the shower. We had to buy water to make coffee and to drink. We had a gas stove, a gas hot water heater (in the bedroom) and a gas heater, but there was no CO2 detector in the cabin. A violation of MN. law and a very unsafe situation. Needless to say we will not be back. We were with a group of 20 people and occupied 5 different cabins. We will be looking for a place that cares about their guests for next year. The FREE WI-FI was so weak that you couldn't use it. read more

First of all, the indoor pool, hot tub, sauna and weight room were a great bonus! We loved the beach and my 2 year old enjoyed the play set. Our cabin was very basic (which was expected) but it smelled awful the entire week, was not very clean, our front door screen was broken so bugs poured in anytime we opened it to get fresh air in. we asked them to fix it but never saw any maintenance men ever! The air-conditioned didn't cool the cabin what so ever. The water was smelly and turned everything orange including my daughters blond hair! The road was right outside our cabin and people flew up and down it at all times of the day/night. The general store was NEVER open. And boats and pontoons were ridiculously expensive to rent! We had a great time but for the cost we will never go back. There was absolutely no hospitality, never saw a manager, just the young front desk workers who were not very helpful. Wilderness Point Review The value for money simply does not add up. We stayed in Cabin 8. Here were our needs: a quiet, peaceful Minnesota experience on a lake with opportunities to paddle about. We decided to splurge on something a little more luxurious and spend the money on a cabin for three adults. We called up Wilderness Point to inquire about the facilities, checked out their website and agreed that it might just measure up to the standards we were looking for. The price is ridiculous for what we got: Shabby cabins at best. Disgusting hard water stains, everything tastes and smells of iron and rust. The toilet, the shower, the kitchen water. The toilet is a perpetual yellow color. The shower a rickety plastic thing screwed into a niche that makes you wonder whether it will tip out. The whole place requires a complete makeover. Instead, you'll find band-aids have been placed over gaping wounds. You will absolutely have to bring your own drinking water. And don't expect to cook. The gas stove does not work. The faucet in the bathroom could easily fall off with the next guests. Besides the super cheap and shabby appliances in the bath and kitchen, screens have holes in them (so you must turn on the air conditioner or invite mosquitos in), the air conditioner is more noisy than effective and a huge waste of energy. The wood we bought was also mouldy and certainly not worth four dollars a bundle. And the equipment (which, given, is free) for kayaking and canoeing and paddle-boarding is worn and beaten up, paddles missing, lifejackets mouldy. Now, a lot of this may have to do with the visitors who come through and who just don't give a flying-squirrel's care in the world whether they ruin someone else's stuff but come on. Get someone on this to regulate it! On the plus sides - because there are plus sides: The beds are super comfortable, the area is beautiful, the lake is pretty clean, and the loons are plentiful. We did enjoy the peace and quiet and though our neighbors were right nearby, we did not feel encroached upon. Everyone was very respectful of noise and private space and very friendly. The staff was friendly, too. We must give them that though not able to handle our complaints without "notifying the supervisors" which, after two weeks, still hasn't happened. There are plenty of chairs for the deck and tables and opportunities to eat outdoors and, despite the condition of the equipment, we appreciated the opportunity to take out the kayaks whenever we wanted and to paddle around (even if with an adapted paddle). For the two nights we stayed, it was fine. Had it been for longer and we would have checked out and found somewhere else to go. For the 200 USD a night? No flipping way would we have stayed. read more

My husband and I stayed at this resort over the NHRA Nationals weekend. We were in Villa 10. The townhouse is beautiful and big. It has a pool table in the basement, cable, fireplace and fire pit outside, 2 car garage. We arrived around noon to drop our boat off and our Villa was available so we were able to check in early! We did bring our own boat and we took it out on the lake, which is actually quite small. They have many docks but only one boat launch which is right next to the beach so we had to be careful because there were kids on the beach and in the water right next to the dock. In our opinion they need another boat launch on the other side of the property. The only two things we didn't care for was the check out time is 9am! When we arrived in our villa we found the recliner in the main living room was broken, when we called the office to tell them about it, they knew exactly what we were talking about. Maybe if others had problems with it, maybe actually fix it or get a new one. read more

This resort, hmm where do I begin? Nice beach. The pool was nice which is quite a walk from cabins on the road. We couldn't lock our cabin because locks didn't work only on one door, there was an inch of dirt under beds, the AC filter was so dirty, that I REMOVED it and washed it in the hopes it would work better. The boat launch was in the beach area where kids played, bad idea there. The police showed up because of employees not able to get along. NO CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! We were told boat dock was 50' from cabin, more like a 1/8 of a mile. Store was never open. The road was so noisy and fast traffic, unsafe.The water turned our hair orange and smelled so bad and our cabin smelled as bad as the water so for $1400 a week plus $100 tax, save your money and go elsewhere!!! Renting a boat was so expensive, I would've rather saved the money and fished off of my air mattress. So you can bet I will never go back. The only good thing we enjoyed, was playing on the beach with my 2 year old granddaughter. read more

Horrendous customer service! We were left to fend for ourselves to locate our cabin and dock space. There was no electricity on the dock for our boat as we had been told. No grill or deck chairs at the cabin and were told we could find our own chairs in the dirty, messy shed by the dock. There was no air conditioner as we had been told, and the hot water heater did not work. Owners were not available and staff had no authority to rectify issues. read more

We stayed in Cabin 8 July 15-19. Pros: Great sandy beach with toys (noodles, sand box toys) for younger children on site. There were tons of loons also and every morning we would be kayaking( kayaks provided by resort) and swim. Very peaceful lake. Cons: Our cabin was never checked before our arrival. We had to clean the entire thing and all the dishes before use. We had no hot water or gas. Called to have them come take a look, 3 hours later it was fixed. We had a broken coffee pot, that was replaced 2 hours later by another broken pot. Our fridge did not work or cool so all of our food went bad. The water is horrible. I took a shower wearing my swimsuit to get the sand out, and my gray suit stained from the rust. The rest of the trip everyone was afraid to take a shower for fear of ruining their hair and clothing. As another reviewer stated, I believe they only care about the town homes, and the cabins are gross. We chose to stay at another location this year, and will never go back to this resort again, which is a shame as it was a very peaceful lake. read more
