Friendly staff. Very helpful. I got the Super Stock Up and was very happy with the amount of product I got for about $170. But the best result was when I cooked the bacon and later that day the ground chuck. The bacon was great and had lots fo flavor. The ground chuck made great hamburgers and lost almost no size when I cooked them. They were a big hit in the house. I'm looking forward to cooking more of the meat I have in the freezer. I also plan to go back later today and buy a whole New York Strip. Added this part a few months later. The meat was realy wrapped well enough to hold up in the freezer. If you buy a deal make sure to rewrap or vacuum seal it. read more

I want to share my honest experience so others can make an informed decision. A week ago, bad weather kept my usual meat delivery guy from coming, so I called Wilkes Meats. I told the owner I normally buy a month's worth of steaks at a time. He quoted me a price over the phone that was much higher than what I usually pay, so I told him I'd call back. About ten minutes later, he called me saying he was closing early because of the weather and offered me approximately 26 steaks for $445. I agreed. When I arrived, the first red flag was that there was no meat in the display cases at all. He brought out a whole cut to show me before slicing it. While cutting, he wore no gloves, which I noticed, but I figured I would wash the steaks at home anyway. That night, I cooked one steak. It had a strange smell--different from anything I've ever gotten from my usual supplier. I thought maybe it was my air fryer, even though I always cook steaks the same way. About ten minutes after eating, I had diarrhea and vomiting. The next day I still felt sick, so I only ate bread. The following day, I tried another steak. Same smell. Same reaction--immediate vomiting and diarrhea. That's when I realized the meat was the problem. I threw the rest away. I called the owner to explain what happened. As I'm telling him everything, he's quiet. Then he says, "Come up Monday and we can work something out." I told him I didn't want more meat from him--why would I risk getting sick again. His response was basically that replacing the meat was all he could offer. I told him I would dispute the charge with American Express and leave an honest review. He said "OK," so here I am. I spent $445 on steaks that made me sick twice and ended up in the trash. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this place. If you buy in bulk, be aware: in my opinion, it felt like I was given older meat they were trying to get rid of. A butcher doesn't want to throw out product, and unfortunately, I believe that's exactly what happened here. I'm not a butcher or a competitor--just a customer sharing what happened. I spoke on the phone with the Snellville location; the gentleman refused to tell me the price of turkey wings. he spoke as if I was attempting to rip him off. So I went into the location - that ended just as bad some of the food was a browish color. it was almost a very faint odor of spoil in the air. the gentleman (not sure if it was the same fella) was not friendly and still refused to say how much the wings where per pound. Wilkes is awesome! If I lived nearer I'd get all my meat there and skip the grocery store meat section. I've found interesting cuts of meat, and great prices on basics. I love knowing that everything I see has been cut or ground expertly by someone who truly knows the ins and outs - I've even ordered specific custom cuts of beef for holiday meals and they've delivered on that as well. read more

I came here after leaving another meat market, and saw that the prices for Ribeyes was more satisfying...$14.99lb. The Ribeyes we're well marbled and he let me see the front and bottom of the meat. I also got their in house made BBQ beef jerky, a pound of bacon, and some cubed meat for beef stew. The man behind the counter was wonderful. He told me what was on sale, and the cost. It was like a bartering sorta thing, but wasn't bothersome. I'm coming back, like Freddy Krueger. read more

Wilkes put out an ad in one of those coupon mailer magazines, with some decent deals. I don't live around the corner, but decided to give it a try. I walked in and immediately see lots of freezers; this isn't uncommon for some butchers, but I was expecting large fresh cases with much variety; they had a modest amount of items, pork, chicken, beef.. I was greeted curtly and when I asked for the 5# of chicken breast deal for $9.99 the butcher said sorry all out, when I asked about the Tbone special for 9.99/lb he barks at me I only have two left, but you can have them for the special or NY strip, not even asking how many I wanted (1) really, but I bought them both anyway $34 to support the small guy. But, going on record by saying if you are going to spend money on advertising, have the frickin' merchandise and don't treat me like sh*t for presenting the damn ad you paid for to get me in the door. Hope the steaks are worth the trouble. read more

Although not fancy, this place provides great service. The meat prices are comparable to that at a grocery store but typically of better quality (sometimes it is less expensive.) In addition to the normal meats that you would find at a butcher they can also provide goat and lamb. They also have a variety of great family freezer packages. Their beef kabob meat was $4.99 a pound and is great if you like to make kabobs. read more

The only reason I am somewhat content giving one star, is the store, albeit begrudgingly, gave a store credit for the putrid meat they sold us and the unprofessional attitude they exuded. On a Thursday late afternoon we purchased an entire pork loin (butchered into 2 roasts and some chops). The butcher who was very pleasant and funny. He butchered the pork loin and wrapped the roasts and chops separately. We asked for a box to keep them colder for the ride home (about 8 or so miles in an air conditioned car). While putting the box into the trunk my mom noted a "meaty" odor. We put it off to being old chicken blood in the box the meat was in. Once we got home, the meat got put immediately into the fridge and freezer. Today, Sunday, less than 72 hrs later, I pulled one of the roasts out of the fridge, still that "meaty" smell and also some wonderfully green tints to the roast. This green tint is also known as spoiled, rancidness, putrid, gross...whatever. The shop tried to blame us for mishandling, then it was there was a pinhole in the first packaging, then it was only the roast was bad but the frozen stuff was fine. The original butcher and other staff member were very condescending and refused to give a refund, only a store credit. Sure that sounds awesome, someone could have gotten really sick because you guys don't handle your products properly and you want me to eat something else from here? Perfect. Ultimately instead of losing 45$ we just took the store credit and went for the bacon that is cured and less likely to spoil. My personal opinion is they will probably cut the rancid portion off the roast and resell the rest. Amazing right? Anyway here's to not getting food poisoning, 9 lbs of bacon, and knowing that this place doesn't care about their customer's safety or health. read more

Went to the Web-site and reviewed their "Freezer Deals" with my wife and picked the "MEAT LOVERS SPECIAL" at $69.99. Then drove to the market. Walked in and saw the placards displaying all their "Freezer Deals." Woah, the price was $109.99, and on top of that the items had changed. Now I understand prices change, and maybe you just did a 10% adjustment but not updating your web page prices over several years of what amounted to a 57% change is just bad business. So I asked if he had an updated price list for all their "Freezer Deals" and the lone guy their told me they were up by the cash register. I looked, didn't see anything and after him telling me to look to the right and still not seeing anything he came up from the back, looked and said, "guess we don't have any." Looking back in the meat cooler, there was a promo sign that read "Flank Steak Specials." "How much is the Flank," I asked? "We don't sell too much Flank, I don't have any." Signage is a disaster. Shopped there today I was very disappointed to see the guy handling meats after ringing another customer up and not washing his hands, and then handling the meats with NO GLOVES not once did he wash his hands. GROSS!!!! I will not go back. read more

My father purchased 6 lbs. of filet steak at 16.99/lb. about 3 weeks ago (approx. Jun 19, 2015). He immediately went home (in Loganville) and put the 6 packs of steak in his freezer. On Father's Day, he gave us the frozen meat. We kept it in the freezer and removed a package on July 10th to eat for dinner. Immediately upon opening the frozen steaks, I smelled an ammonia stench coming from the meat. At this point I wanted to thaw the meat and further investigate this smell. Once the meat was halfway thawed, the smell became stronger and unbearable. It was evident that the meat Wilkes sold my father was bacteria ridden and spoiled. We had to throw out about $105 of worthless meat. I would not ever buy from this place of business again, and I would caution others to do the same. If anyone in my family had consumed this meat, we would have been deathly sick!!! I am trying to contact them now to see what they can do. read more
