I used Wilks for a couple of years and thought I had found an honest HVAC company until they came to my house to do the annual service/checkup on my American Standard AC. The AC was running fine until they arrived. Shortly after the workman left the AC stopped working. They came back the next day and diagnosed it as a bad compressor. I had my suspicions that they did something that caused the compressor to fail, but there was no way to prove it. I told the workman that the AC was still under warranty, so the compressor would be free and I would be happy to pay them to repair it since they are a certified American Standard dealer. After the workman spoke to his supervisor, he told me that they couldn't fix it because there were no compressors available in the San Antonio area and left in a hurry. I called another certified AS dealer the same day and they came out to look at it. I explained what had happened and they said that everything that Wilks told was not true. They got the compressor from a local HVAC supply store in about a day and charged me for labor to install the new compressor. I think Wilks didn't want to repair it because it was a warranty claim so they wouldn't make as much money. After that episode, I will never let this company close to my HVAC system and I cannot in good faith recommend them to anyone because if they break it then they will not fix it. read more

That install was handled professionally by Patrick Wilks and the team -- and I was genuinely impressed. Unfortunately, my most recent experience in 2025 has been the complete opposite. I've added images of two proposals -- one that included a copper drain and one where it was removed -- but the total price remained exactly the same, even after the item was taken out. When I asked for a price adjustment, I was told it was just a mistake that would not be corrected. This job involved multiple site visits, follow-up discussions, and a lot of wasted time. Now, in the middle of 105-degree weather, I'm left without a working system and having to find a new contractor because Wilks wouldn't stand behind their proposal or correct the error. I'm disappointed to see how much the service has declined over the years -- especially for a long-time customer. Contracts and transparency matter, and unfortunately, that's where this experience fell apart. read more

I contacted Wilks AC because my living room was always hot. Ken Carruth came out to assess my issues. I had explained to him Will Fix It (WFI) did the install of the HVAC unit. I had WFI come back out replace the duct to my living room as it was not getting enough cool air along with other issues they were not able to fix. They installed a 7 inch duct and put in a "wall vent" (6 x9) the size for a bathroom. Ken looked at everything, took pictures and video of the problems. The 7" duct was too small for the living room (thank you WFI), it was not sealed correctly to the supply box and the box wasn't attached or sealed to the sheetrock causing air leaks. The plenum was not replaced with the new unit in 2021, and was cut into too many times causing deterioration. WFI also left the UV light unit when they installed the new unit. The UV light unit was installed in 2010 and no longer work. Talk about being lazy! Wilks AC came out (thank you Josh, Eddie, John & Randy) for coming out and replace and change everything that needed to be done. They were very thorough with their work, very professional. They cleaned up after themselves and did not leave trash in the attic like WFI did. I went up in the attic and they showed me everything they did and why they did it. I highly recommend them for their service. I've had a maintenance contract with them for the last 2 years and they are excellent at what they do. They are always on time. Our AC went out at 11pm. I called Wilks as soon as they opened at 7am and they had a technician at my house by 8:30am. He replaced the capacitor and checked all the drainage and temperature settings. I've heard some good reviews about the company from the people I know. Unfortunately, I did not have the same experience. After paying over $450 to get my furnaces and AC units serviced, the technician clogged the drain line where the AC line is plumbed to. This required a plumber to come out and clear the line, and an additional $200 from me, which the company refused to cover or consider. They stated they have no idea if the sink was clogged before. In addition, I received a quote for a $1,000 to replace two capacitors: a job that requires an hour of work for two and $100 bucks in parts at most. Just beware. Doesn't seem like they offer a fair deal. Maybe it's a one off experience, but I would not recommend. read more

The first call, I really was not charged a service call charge. I was very impressed. Well folks, things have changed. Trust me, they get paid, one way or another. My advise to all is to insist UP FRONT on having the company ; "whatever is being repaired/replaced", to leave the part that is being replaced. Car parts, AC parts...any part. Period. Despite that, we have had to have them repeatedly return to our property over 5 times this summer and now the upstairs air conditioner that they said was in good working order (ya know we pay for the monthly service) IT is now out. Amazing service! The consultant came on a Saturday and had a tech come out to inspect our unit. We knew the compressor was done for but they checked anyway for free. Turns out that it was also leaking refrigerant, which another company hadn't informed us about, super toxic and dangerous! They were able to safety rectify that at no cost! We ended up financing with them the same day and ended up getting approved. They came on Monday and got our HVAC replaced, there was a very experienced tech and two newer ones. Wilks installed a Ruud system in my house by previous owners in 1987. Pretty sure they had it serviced every year until I moved in in 2001. I have had them service the unit every year since then. Just had my semiannual checkup today, and thought about Yelp. Although they only have two prior reviews, the 5- star reviews are spot on. I was scheduled for the 4-6 appointment window. The tech called at 4:30 and said he was 20 minutes out. Love that touch (can you hear me TWC/U-Verse?). The tech did a full inspection inside the house including blowing out the drain pipe, checked refrigeration level and cleaned the outside unit with a good wash. 89 bucks out the door. I'm a happy camper. I'll add one additional experience from 3 years ago. My outside unit quit working. The compressor would kick in, but the fan would quit working after a couple minutes. Techs came out and replaced the fan motor and the system worked for exactly 1 day. I called them back that next day and they dispatched an hour later. After running more in depth diagnostics using a meter, they found the root cause to be the capacitor. Since my old fan motor was still on hand, they put my old fan motor back in, replaced the capacitor, refunded the price difference AND didn't charge me an additional service fee. Who does that anymore? Three years on, fan motor, capacitor and zero freon leak unit, installed in 1987, is working like a champ. read more

I've been using this company for 4 years. They're always pleasant when I call and make an appointment for the routine service on my A /C unit. They always call before they arrive and they use hospital cover shoes to enter the home. I use them twice a year for fall/winter and spring/summer. In the fall they'll give you a calendar with the reminder months you need to get your A/C serviced. The A/C service men are always nice and polite. read more

OK, so I research a bit and like what I found about Wilks (strong ratings, family company, free estimate). Emailed on Sunday looking to confirm they did duct cleaning. Within 30 minutes heard back from Patrick Wilks online set up appt for Wednesday at 11:00. At 10:50 Patrick calls to say he'll be here in 10 minutes. He was here in 10 minutes. Long story short, Patrick told me not only did I not need a cleaning ($1,100) but they would recommend against it because of the age of my house they might make things worse. Then he explained how I could resolve the problem myself or have them do it. Then explained what I needed to do and what products to use to do it. Folks, most tradesman don't make a living advising you you don't need their services. Patrick on the other hand told a potential customer how to DIY. A great teacher and an honest person. Patrick didn't sell me a drill he taught me how to make a hole. If there was a 5 star rating system here I'd rate Wilks a 10. The appt was set for 2 to 4 o'clock and Keith Wilks called shortly before arriving at 2 o'clock. Keith was very PROFESSIONAL, FRIENDLY and KNOWLEDGEABLE. My family and I have used Wilks since the beginning of the company. With the new generation of Wilks running the company, they still maintain the high valves such as honesty and integrity. This past week, I replaced the 20 year old original a/c unit in my house. I had Patrick come out and review with me my options. After a few days, I had his team come out and replace the unit. Very satisfied. We had a clogged AC drain and we noticed water draining to our back yard. We had another company come out and tell us that they could fix this ("band aid fix") for $275 which we felt was rather overpriced so we decided to get a second opinion. Jim from Wilks Air Conditioning & Heating came out, quickly confirmed the problem, and told us he could fix the issue today for $89. He took less than an hour, provided us with written information about the issue, and checked our unit on the outside to ensure all was well. He was professional and we definitely felt it was a fair price for the job. Would definitely recommend. They also had a no charge diagnosis service call which we appreciate. Would recommend!
