We are "owners" at Willamette Valley Winery, as is our daughter who lives in Salem. We live in the Seattle area, so we don't get down to WVV that often. We are dog-sitting this weekend, so we made reservations for 5:15 last evening. We arrived just a minute or two later. We were seated in the "owners" room at a table right in front of the door, with patrons walking so close to us we feared being brushed every time someone entered or left. After moving to another table, it took over twenty minutes to be served our first pour, without being asked what we wanted. Things got worse from there. We considered leaving, but hey, we are "owners" so we thought we would stick it out. We finally got to place our wine flight preference, but that got screwed up as well. We had two pours, without any explanation and a long wait between them. And worst of all, we tried to place our food order, but no one on staff seemed interested in taking it. Then, as if magic, there was a shift change A bit after 6. Our new server was attentive, taking our food order and detailing the difference wines we were tasting. He was in a word - delightful - catering to our every wish. The food, bought to us very quickly, was terrific and the wines tasted so much better with the accompanying explanations of how they were intended to taste. He then presented us with Devine cherry flavored truffles, our bill and packed our take home bottles with humor and curtesy. HE SAVED OUR EVENING. I have been to this winery a plethora of times over the years. ANd, I have always had a decent experience, and have had a fun time with the company I was with. Here are some obvious negatives: (1) the site is directly off i-5. YOu can see it as you drive north or south. Sure, that is convenient, but it is not technically in "wine country" with a rustic drive to get-away from city life or anything like that. (2) Their original Tasting room with the view of the winery is now MEMBERS/WIne-club-only tasting room. YEs, this is a benefit of exclusivity if you are a member, and you can enjoy the beautiful tasting room and fireplace. But, if you are a minion or peasant, you aren't allowed there, sorry. (3). THe really cool tower that is overlooking the property is often closed for some reason. I'm not sure why, if it is being developed, or due to liability of some sort of construction. Either, way I have been disappointed that it is often closed, and people are not allowed to go up there. But, on a positive, back in the day, like 2006, my friend proposed to his now, wife, up there. And, it was during the "Wine & Chocolate" event that WVV has on February. So, that was an enjoyable engagement story for that couple, when it was allowed to go up to that tower. --*!! Heh, on a side note, I've realized I've seen two engagements at WVV, the second one was a friend of a friend who proposed to his boyfriend down by the grass of the second building. It was a pretty spot, and very secluded, and our group of friends were hanging out in the ol' patio seating above that, so it was pretty cool. I'm not confident of the #'s of wine bottles production of wineries in Oregon, so don't cite me as a source on this, but I believe WVV is one of the biggest producers in the state. Or at least as a certain level, that is why they were able to build the new restaurant on the site, because the sold a certain amt of wine cases a year. So, that explains why WVV is not a true local winery, like a micro-place, this is slightly more macro and larger scale. So, their tasting experiences are not quite as good as other wineries would be, with a little more intimate taste. But, some on the positive side, some people like that bling and flash and stuff, so if that's the case go to this lil Big Winery. And, the last thing that it comes down to with this winery, is I don't like their wines. I always try them, and see if they have evolved, or my taste preferences have changed, but it doesn't matter, none of their wines are worth writing about. Around 2006, I remember I was a fan of the "whole cluster Pinot Noir" that they produced. It was priced well, a shade under $20/bottle, and it was aged in steel-barrels only, not oak, so it was unique but good. Lately, I've had numerous bottles, and re-visited this specific wine varietal and I have been non plussed. IT tasted too sweet, and a little sharp. Side tangent-We went to a dinner party a couple of weeks ago, and had a nice bottle of Pinot Noir from a winery in the Ribbon RIdge AVA, and everyone really loved it. Then, the hosts opened a bottle of the WVV-Whole Cluster afterward to share. The guest next to me, basically spit it out, and was like was wondering what was up with that! So, Yeah, he was completely neutral and with a different palate and taste preference then me, I just thought it was interesting he had the same opinion as me. In closing, it is not secluded of a tasting room environment in wine country. The tower is not consistently open for guests to go up there. Their tasting experience is more like a "herding cattle" and not an intimate and meaningful experience. In addition, I am not a fan of the actual tastes of their wines either. And, overall the design of the estate feels more like something out of California, and not like a rustic-Oregon-estate. read more

This is such a beautiful winery. Gorgeous scenery outside and cozy, upscale interiors. On our most recent visit, mom, the hub and I did a tasting - keep in mind that they will waive the tasting fee if (a) you're a shareholder or a wine club member or (b) you purchase two bottles of wine per person. I'm glad to see that they now have a standing menu and food on a regular basis. Mom, the hub and I shared a charcuterie plate and the hub had the steelhead with white beans and kale. The charcuterie plate had a good selection of items and the steelhead looked fabulous (although I didn't try it). Wine was cold and refreshing; we were given the coolers to take outside with our bottles to keep the wine cold. We definitely always try to find time for a visit when we're in the area. read more

If you're looking for a place with delicious wine, a beautiful view and a full kitchen then I recommend checking out Willamette Valley Vineyards. I had driven by on the I-5 so many times but never made the trip until today. When you walk into the tasting room you'll see it's a huge place with multiples floors, rooms and a huge outdoor patio. The people at the wine counter were very friendly and helpful while we chose our glasses of wine. We ordered the burger and the chicken salad and grabbed a spot on the patio. The food came out pretty quickly even though they were slammed. The burger was tasty but I felt like they totally skipped out on the fries, especially for an $18 dish. The salad was fresh and the dressing was good but if you told me there was supposed to be chicken in it I would have been surprised. If you order a salad with chicken for $15 I expect to see a nice juice chicken breast not 5 tiny cubes of dry chicken somewhere among the greens. The Rosé was really nice - not too sweet and great for a warm day. We climbed the stair up to the tower but the views were about the same as the patio, maybe slightly better. People who are in the wine club have access to their own side room and there's a little gift shop full of quirky things like signs that say "I'd rather stay at home and drink wine with my dog" and a book of "Wine Dogs". Not for me but I know they are speaking to some people out there! read more

Came by here with a group of friends with our wine passport. We decided to go for the "reserve flight of wine" which was $15. Highly recommend this flight. The scenery was absolutely gorgeous and the vista house was enormous. They have an upstairs seating lounge which was very cozy. They also offer complementary chocolate bites to go along with your wine as well as a dinner menu. Will definitely be coming back here to enjoy another flight and try their dinner menu as well. read more

I love this place! Such a great view of the valley, and a nice place to catch up with loved ones. Their flights are a great way to try several types of wine and find a new favorite. I also love that the bottles are reasonably priced. All I've ordered food wise is the fries - which were tasty for sure! I did love the tualatin semi-sparkling muscat, I'm more of a white wine girl and it was sweet like peaches. The staff was prompt and courteous (though I would love the option to bus my own table). Juliet was our ambassador (Tour Guide) at the Turner location - she is fabulous! If I could put more stars for her, I would absolutely do it! Her love and passion for the vineyard spread to our entire group. The wines were wonderful! And, we were very impressed with the Vintners focus on carefully stewarding the land by intentionally working to leave a small a carbon footprint, preserving native wild animals, and using technology instead of chemicals to produce a very fine end product! The original wedding date was 6-20-20 and COVID forced a reschedule to 8-1-20. This was the perfect way to start my trip! I arrived right when they opened their doors- I didn't have a reservation but was graciously accommodated by Brian and Hannah. Jammi was my server and she was the perfect balance of attentiveness, easy going conversation, strong and pointed recommendations. I feasted on the artichoke ravioli with gulf shrimp- it was phenomenal and paired PERFECTLY with the recommended Chardonnay. I was lucky enough to enjoy both of the flights offered throughout the 4 hours that I was at the winery. Paul had a wonderful knowledge level of the wines offered, as well as some of the history of the area. When I inquired about the sparkling muscat he was kind enough to open a bottle so I could try. I enjoyed my experience so much that I opted to join the Vault Wine Club right then and there! Brian and Brad were very helpful in guiding me into which wine club was right for me, and Jammi was incredibly sweet in returning all of the wine bottles I had bought (a full case) and then re-running the order with my new wine club membership benefits. Overall, the staff is amazing and I will definitely be coming back soon! They also gave me great recommendations for other wineries in the area. So grateful for all of their help!
