A pretty good, low key, reasonably priced option for dinner on a Saturday night when you live in Morriston (as opposed to driving into Ocala). The food was super. The steak was tender and seasoned perfectly. The mashed potatoes, though they could have been warmer were delicious, with small bits of potato giving them good texture. Morriston, FL? I can't be the only one who had never heard of it. To add emphasis to my ignorance I should mention I had lived two towns away for 2 1/2 years before discovering it. It's the true definition of the middle of nowhere. That being said, my expectations weren't high for Willard's. I assumed minute steak and fish out of a Gorton's Fish Sticks box. I'm happy to report I couldn't be more wrong! Willard's is out in the middle of horse country and it truly is a beautiful drive from my home about 20 miles away. It doesn't look like much from the outside but the inside is a lot more cozy. We were there early evening on a Saturday night and there were only five people at the bar and one table with a dining family. Right away we were greeted by our very friendly server and shown to a booth with some kind of horse implements on the wall (we know nothing about horses but determined it wasn't reins or a bridle... ). We ordered fried pickles and Wisconsin cheese curds for appetizers. Both were great. We loved the breading on the pickles and loved that they were actual spears as opposed to pickle chips. My husband got homemade coleslaw. I'm not a big fan of coleslaw but I must say, it was pretty darn good. They came with crackers as well. I got a salad which was the typical iceberg lettuce salad which was okay. For dinner I ordered the sirloin and my husband ordered the Delmonico steak. Both were delicious and we ended up cutting the steaks in half and sharing. These were the best steaks I've found in Florida thus far. Willard's is worth venturing into God's country. read more

If you're looking for a great hole in the wall bar full of character you found it. You don't end up at Willard's by accident. It's located in the middle of nowhere Florida. A true gem if you're an aficionado of holes in the wall and Americana in general like myself. The beer is cold, the food is hot, and there's a channel or two playing on the TV's. Country music is a mandate here. This is a basic bar. Nothing fancy about it. The outside of Willards looks pretty scary. The inside is much better. Careful in the bathroom. It's a far cry from the Waldorf Astoria. I had to give it four stars because this is my kind of place. Good people, good times, great location. Don't be afraid to drop in for a cold one. read more

The restaurant has made a complete turn around over the past 6 months. Has new owners that are local and seen this place at its highs and lows. Wait staff was attentive and friendly. Food was served in a decent time. Took about 10 minutes for our appetizer then about 15 for our dinner. Had the steak it was an actual tender ribeye with good flavor. Lots of new faces and now has outdoor seating. We were told to come back on the weekend, that they have live music every week. Everything was clean and saw lots of improvements. True meaning of a "dive bar". First time visiting and meeting up there with friends. It was a busy Saturday nite with a good band playing outside in the back -- the band was the best part of the hour and half we stayed. Food was cold, mediocre at best, the butter wouldn't even melt on the baked potatoe. Fried shrimp were greasy and could have been cooked a little longer..ribs "okay" but not hot. The worst part of visiting Willard's was the ladies bathroom. Both of the ladies rooms to be exact. Don't know how the mens are but if the ladies are "grody gross" then you can be sure the men's is too. If I had tended to restroom duties before eating, I would not have ate there. They say you can tell how clean the kitchen is by the way the restrooms are kept. A little fresh paint and new lightwitch would have made the simplest difference. The lightswitch was SO dirty and basically taped on with duct tape. There was grunge and grime over the entire bathroom and hardly room in the bathroom for a small person, which I am. Okay, okay, okay! I noted from other reviews that this place could be hit or miss. Several people complained about the service. Typically the food got good ratings. My fiancee and I visited Willard's for the first time last night. We had been at a weekend long horse trail riding event in the area. At the end of the day, several local riders and some that were not local(but still a little bit wacko!) decided to hit Willard's for dinner. We were told it was the best place around and it was nearby. This joint is in the country, the back country badlands of Florida, as I saw it. I have to admit, being from a large Metropolitan area near Tampa, I had visions of Deliverance and swore I was gonna push past my girl on a hot run if I heard any banjo music! And, when we pulled up I thought I should be tying my horse off at the railing instead of parking my F250 steed. It didn't help seeing the dried blood and bullet holes on the wood planks of the front porch! JUUUUUUUST kidding! There was no blood! Alright! There were no bullet holes, either. Geeez! Enter into the cozy confines of the restaurant, noticing lots of patrons seemingly enjoying their chosen menu munchies. The place was clean, with plenty of seating and there were no bodies on the floor. Well, one, but he was cleaning with a toothbrush..again, juuuuust kidding. No bodies. We were greeted immediately and seated in a really comfortable booth. I'll skip the foreplay and get right to the main event now. The food! In winter, Florida temps go up and down more than customers at The Mustang Ranch in Vegas. Our day went from a chilling 31 degrees up to around 70, then sinking back into icydom after dark. Therefore, I wanted some chili, dang it! Unfortunately, they were out of chili, it was a hot item that night. Oh well, I ordered the jambalaya. I was not disappointed, it was delicious! For our entrees, my date and I decided on the Delmonico steaks, her's being the small one and mine weighing in at 16 ounces, for $19.99. Both came with a salad and a baked potato. Ordered mid-rare, of course. The salad was your fairly basic one, but I thoroughly devoured and enjoyed it. The baked potato was the size of a munchkin's football, and cooked to perfection. The steak? Drumroll please................IT was............ EXCELLENT! Perfectly cooked, with tons of flavor and that cushy but firm easy to cut texture that makes me realize why I have chosen a non-vegan lifestyle. My mate's smile showed me she was equally pleased. (I remember that look when we were first dating!) Our server was really friendly, on the spot with our needs and made us feel welcome. Sadly, I don't recall her name, so blond woman who waited on us, Thank you! Oh yeah, our fellow customers also made us feel welcome and part of their family. I had noticed that one of the two young guys at the booth next to us had received a great looking hamburger. I casually asked him how it tasted, to which he answered "Real good!". Later on, he turned around in his booth and offered me half of his burger, promising he hadn't touched it. I was honored, but truthfully told him I was waiting for my steak. He confirmed the steak would be a joy to behold. Fast forward to next day, high noon. On our way home, we decided to hit Willard's for lunch. We both ordered hamburgers with fries, and yessir, they were Real Good! We hung around for awhile, played a few horrible games of billiards. All the while we were in the capable hands of Janine. (Hope I got the spelling right, and give kudos to our server from last night, okay?) Overall, service was excellent, the regulars and guests were so polite and friendly(I knew they would be, just kidding about the Deliverance thing). We will definitely put Willard's as a favorite in our GPS, so look out, here we come! Now for the BEST PART!! This restaurant is in an area just west of Gainesville, Florida, home of the UF Gators. The address is Morriston, which is a hop, skip and a jump from the slightly bigger town of Bronson. My last name is Bronson, so I kinda feel special when I'm in the area, and it was fun telling folks all about it. (As you may have guessed, I can ramble on and on and...) Well, now for the AWESOME part. My father's first name was Willard! YES! How's that for totally cool? We had a blast telling anyone who didn't run away and we got quite a few laughs, handshakes and hugs over it! It don't get no better than that! I wish I could give a negative review. We arrived, waited for a table, were ignored despite our attempts, so we sat ourselves. Then we grabbed our own menus and waited for acknowledgement which never came. The waitresses and bar staff were obviously over worked but still managed to serve others with enthusiasm. It was quite amusing to watch the wait staff party with the locals but we were hungry. After waiting for over 30 minutes, without any service whatsoever, we left. We had to purchase chips and dip at the local gas station for dinner. It was less than pleasant. read more

I've been to Willards many times. After tonight I will not be going back. We got our appetizer, salad and slaw after waiting awhile. After an hour of waiting for our entrees we decided to leave. The waitress was attentive and very apologetic. The bartender/manager wasn't apologetic or seemed to care at all. Charged us for our drink, salad, slaw and appetizer. Not even a comp or anything. Had been going to Willard's for a couple of years on a regular basis, but those days are over. The burgers are good, as are the wings and prime rib, but unless you want to wait 45 minutes to an hour, OR MORE, for your food after ordering, pass on Willard's. The wait time was always iffy (sometimes efficient, sometimes not) when Tom owned the place, but was NEVER as bad as it is now. After Tom died, the new owner really screwed up the place, (she appears to have no idea how to run the business), or doesn't care since it is the only restaurant in this area. There is never sufficient wait staff, and my guess is, insufficient cooking staff. The last three times we went there the wait times for food were from 45 minutes to an hour. Tonight we went there and after an hour of waiting for our food (a burger and wings) and being told it would be coming out soon, we got up and left. It's too bad because this place could be a barn burner since it's the only game at this end of town. Sure wish someone in Williston would open a decent burger and wing place, it would drive this place into the ground. Better yet, wish a qualified business person/restauranteur would buy this place. It could be a real money maker instead of a restaurant that just hobbles along. I am sure a lot of locals stopped going there because of the way it is run but would return if new management took over and improved the place. read more

Went to Willard's last night. They had a good band last night but I must say the service there is terrible. They weren't busy but trying to get a drink is nearly impossible. They have a nice bar outside but don't know how to make any drinks. Tried to get a lemon drop. Now how hard is that. The owner was behind the bar tried to get a drink from her but she decided to go inside and never came back so I went inside to reorder my drink. There were 2 girls behind the bar but both of them stayed at the other end of the bar. So I went to the end then they disappeared and it took another twenty minutes and then she comes back to inform me they have no grapefruit juice but brought half of the drink instead of asking if we would like to change the order Tried to order food but that was also impossible . Customers beware of Willard's Restaurant & lounge my wife and i and two friends were there today at about 2:30 pm ....it took 20 mins before one of us went to get the girl to come to the table to wait on us....2 hours later we did not receive our food and was told they were sorry and it would be right out .....20 mins later we told them we were not waiting any longer ......we had two of us drinking ice tea ...one drinking one beer and one drinking a mixed drink ......they charged us 29 dollars and some change for one beer 2 ice teas and one mixed drink ........what a rip off ........CUSTOMERS BEWARE read more
