Willee's is a classic, cozy dive bar. I have never had a bad meal here. From wings, to a burger, to the broiled fish sandwich I had tonight, I have always enjoyed my meals. With that said, service is slow. Every time is a lengthy wait for food, but every server I have had is always kind. Just be prepared to stay for a little while. The broiled fish is hearty, yet light. Tried Willee's again. It was ehh. It was much better before they remodeled- more lively and fun - even for kids. The high-top tables are not for everyone. Why are the booths raised up? This might be my first review without a solid picture, but don't come for me, my kids had my phone. Haha The Philly cheesesteak wrap was legit fire! If we go back I'll definitely be ordering that again! I got a side of onion rings but my husband and kids devoured them as I'm limiting anything fried right now. They said they were delicious! Win-win there because they've been turning up their noses for anything that's not chicken nuggets. My husband got the large fish sandwich and that is totally the way to go for something to share. Stopped in for a drink on a Friday night. The bar was packed so we sat at a table and wanted to watch Pens game- it was after 9pm. The waitress told us we could not sit at bar table if we were not eating- although pens game was only on 1 TV in the back. Finally seats cleared so we could sit at bar. Found this cute little local bar/restaurant on yelp! We were out with some friends and wanted to grab a few extra drinks before heading home and finishing up our evening fun. I have to say I love a good local Pittsburgh bar and restaurant. This place fit the category! We looked over the menu for curiosity sake and I believe this is a must try for the food as well as a place to grab a drink. The old feel of this tavern was very cozy. It was kind of dark but I liked it. I would come back here on a winter day. The bartender was rocking it , she was running Togo and the bar. It was obviously was frustrated with the kitchen, I'm assuming because ticket times were long , but we Sunday mind because we always had a drink in front of us. I was there around 8:15pm on a recent Wednesday night with 4 other golfing buddies after league play. The grill was down, and about half the menu items were not available, even things we thought would be okay served cold like an Italian hoagie. Food took much longer than usual to come out. I split the fish sandwich with another as I didn't want to take anything home. I rate the food that night 5-star, however, our server was almost impossible to get her attention for more drinks or other service. I know it's a hassle when everyone is separate checks, but when I handed her a $20 for two beers, I asked for change. Had to write a follow up review on my local bar, and it will not go unnoticed my friends. Willee's Tavern will never loss any street credit w/ me so be warned, but they have finally finished there long awaited renovations (yup this is a late update for me). The parking lots seem more clean, and they have finally removed there smoking area from the inside which had a designated area. (still no patio) The once crowded bar located in the center when you first come in has been removed, but the new setup in my own words feels wider w/ more light which give it the open space feel. Instead where the bar use to be located in the middle is what I like to call the waiting room, and there really isn't anything else I can say on that other than the floors still look the same (very open now). The new bar has a wider feel w/ how it is laid out, and you can even enjoy the fireplace since it is that close to the bar. For me the new bar appears to have to much light coming in, and leaves me missing how the old bar was set up w/ how close and crowded it was. On the plus side my favorite bartender bruce is still bartending(ya the theme from cheers comes to mind), but there food menu has changed leaving out fried cheesecake which I hope one day will return. Putting the fried cheesecake funeral aside the fried cauliflower w/ or without spice added in (pending when available) is another great add on they now serve. The tv monitors have been upgraded, but to be honest a few more in the right spots would not hurt (hint...hint). Some blinds for the window could go a long way to limit the sun coming in, but to be honest if you drink enough you tend to no longer care w/ how great the company is when it gets lively inside. Still no subtitles on any of the tvs, but at least the jukebox is still fully functional but not played as much anymore sadly. Finding out they no longer had peanut night where you got free peanuts and could throw them on the floor (ya thats gone unless I miss something). And before I forget to mention this they started selling banana beer by the bottle, and yes before you ask it does taste like banana bread (and I am a fan). read more

So after a very, very long conversation as to where we as a family should have Sunday lunch, we decided to try Willie's. I was here just once before and have heard talk of how good their fish is. My parents were up and have never been here before. They open at 12pm on Sunday's and we arrived at 1:20pm. We were surprised to find the dining room dark. They bartender came out to greet us and explained that servers don't come in until 3 on Sundays and that we would have to sit in the bar area. We found a couple high tops pulled together that would accommodate our party. The poor bartender was waiting tables and working the bar. Our group ordered, or I should say tried to orders several soft drinks, only to find most of the weren't working. Finally they found something that was available. Our app was decent. I ordered a cup of chili that never came. Service, not by any fault of the bartender was slooow. I think maybe it was the kitchen more than anything. My fish sandwich was decent but nothing to write home about. My dad enjoyed his burger, but my son hated his. It was way over cooked. My dad quickly threw a card at the bartender to settle the bill. He never glanced at the bill. It wasn't until hours later I realized that hey, I never got my chili. I asked my dad if we were charged for it anyway. He glanced at the bill and said, yep. Bartender was very kind and talkative. Overall the consensus was we probably wouldn't return. read more

To the 20 year professional who completely screwed up our $200+ take out order today - maybe you should have read the order back instead of berating us. Then you could have gotten the order correct. Missing 5 items (that we paid for) and 2 items were not the right food in the order, nothing marked on top of take out boxes. And the kicker for me was when called about the error (which happens everywhere you go) the unprofessional manner in which it was received was ridiculous. Telling us that no - that is what we ordered. And that she found it hard to believe that we were missing food. Great small town bar vibe. Bar area was pretty large. Beers were reasonably priced and they had about 12 on tap. They are known for their fish sandwich and it definitely lived up to expectations. My husband and I were easily able to split a large fish sandwich with fries. We also had a side Caesar salad, which was tasty. A couple folks at the bar had the wings and it looked to be a good portion and the wings were large. We'll probably try those next time. We've been going here for over 25 years - always for fish and always smiling when we get it. Everyone has a place they can tell you about when you ask them where's the best fish sandwich. It's like asking "where's the best pizza?", right? Opinions are as varied as the options. How can you argue? You can't. But once you taste Willee's fish, you'll have to agree that it's up there with whatever other place you might have thought was the best initially. This is clearly in the running. Is it perfect? No. Is it good? Absolutely. Get the large order. I prefer to eat in the bar area even though they have a "dining" area off to the side. You'll see families in there a lot - they all come for the fish. From the outside you'd probably consider not setting foot inside. Yeah, it looks like the dive bar it is. And once in the bar area, you'll be convinced that it's nothing more than a dive bar. Sure, it's a little rough around the edges. But ignore that. Get the fish. My only complaint is that they have 3 taps for draft beer - one for Bud, one for Miller Lite, and one for Yuengling. Not much of a choice. But I can toss back a Yuengling pretty easily! read more

I placed a large To-go order. The staff got things incorrect and were very rude. Stuffed shrimp with crabmeat is on the menu. I was going to order two entrees, but was told rudely by the woman on the phone, "we don't have that today." Friday during Lent, and they do not have fish and seafood?!?! However they did have shrimp to deep fry so I took that instead. I then wanted to add another dinner but was told by the woman (again very rudely) "we have 10 orders! We're busy! I'm not taking anymore orders!" The rudeness is inexcusable if part of your job is to take telephone orders. Telling a customer you will not take another order because you are busy is inexcusable when you are in the business of selling food to clients to make money. Picked up the food, and when I got home I saw that they left out one of the orders. They also got one of the orders incorrect. I ordered broiled fish, and they gave me fried fish. I called to place that order again and was met with the same rudeness. Drove back to pick up the food, and they offered to throw in a free order of fries for my trouble. I always make sure to include any positives if there are any. In addition to the rude and ineffective service, the food was lousy. Overall it was a waste of a lot of my time and some money. Everything is priced separately, so a bargain this place is not. Try lunch instead of dinner as it seems less busy and not as many loud folk around at happy hour time.
